Android Game Price Question - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks,
Quick question,
There are without a doubt alot of paid apps on the market with over 10,000 downloads.
If this is the case and the app is at a price of £1.00
Does this mean they've made over £10.000?
Thanks,
SWFlyerUK

Not quite no, a google takes 3.40% + £0.20 per sale (which would result in just over 70p per sale going to the dev)
And the market downloads just show amount of times download not the amount of unique sales i.e someone can buy it one and install it on all there devices that have there account linked to it which could result in 2-3 downloads for every unique sale.
So really when you take this into account they have likely made closer to £5,000 if not less

Smart office 2 rocks on our PRIME!!!! Best office ever

After I try the lite version of it, I bought the full version without thinking, it was just too great! If you are tired of Polaris and haven't bought another office, definitely go try it, you will love it!
Great product. And its free on Getjar market.

This is the 1st I have heard of Getjar. Do you know how they can offer Paid Apps for Free? Is this site safe to use?
Thanks
it is a Lithuania based market that is not always the most honest in terms of making sure apps listed there are properly paid for. i dont know anything about the actual safety of the apps.
It's completely safe, all paid apps are uploaded by the devs themselves.

The devs post their paid app there for free download? That sounds nonsense to me
This app is neat. Even lets me sync dropbox. Pretty handy! I just need my dock and a mouse to go w/ it soon!

Getjar is based on an advertisement model. App developers get paid by posting their paid apps on getjar, and other developers pay (i.e. sponsor) to gain advertisement space on every page.
Quote:
Q12) So what is the GetJar business model? Is it profitable?
The majority of revenues come from sponsored apps, where developers pay to have their applications prioritized in special section. The developer bids for downloads on GetJar. Depending on region, category and platform, bids vary from US $0.01 to $1 per download. GetJar also has fixed placement advertising, but this is a very small part of the business. And yes, GetJar is profitable.

It's a shame Google didn't go with this business model.
Looks pretty nice, but IMO they could've made it a lot easier to use. It's annoying that you can't make something Bold/Italic/Underlined or change the font until after you've written something..
This basically goes for all the Offices Suites on the Android market: Why can't you make it more MS Office like, with all the different options on a bar at the top of the page?

Office Suite Pro 5 has a toolbar like Word - with Bold, Italics, Underline, Left/Centre/Right alignment, numbering, bulleting, highlighting and font colour - and its accessible all the time. However, it doesn't have the Print Layout view like Smart Office and it doesn't display equations and numbers as well as Smart Office.
If I could take the features of all these office programs and combine them.... (I'd pay for someone to do that)
It works pretty well on Prime but sometimes it makes my tablet goes nuts and I have to reboot it. Do you have the same issue around that ?
With this one, if you are editing a .docx file will you be able to save it as a .docx?

Paid app or stick with Ads? Advice?

Not sure if this is the right forum.
I've created my first app, just a simple card game. I'm wondering if I should offer a paid ad-free version.
Right now its free with Admob. About 2500 active installs out of about 9000 total installs. It took about 1mo to get the first third, the 5mo for the second third, and 2.5mo for the last third. I've found that I get alot more new users whenever I have any sort of update to my app. With Ads, I've made about $1400 in about 9.5 months from 2.6M requests. Since its a game with ads, the longer a user plays, the more ads get shown and the more money I make.
If I have a paid version, I get a one time payment and then zero after that. I don't see charging more than a dollar or two. If I charged $1 and everyone that downloaded it bought it, I'd have $1750 and then thats it. If I waited a few months I'll have that much from ads.
It seems like I'm going to make much more just sticking with the ads. I'm new to all of this, am I missing something or does my logic seem sound.
Do an adfree version. Some of us don't like ads may I ask what app you made?

You're right ads are the way to go. Do you have any methods of sharing the app? That will bring more users and that means more income from ads.
Edit: I offer professional mobile marketing consulting if you're interested.
Questions should be asked in Q&A forums, not Development forums.

This is the app I made: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rcs.video_poker_trainer_dw
I actually made 3 apps but the code is 99% the same.
I've gotten some useful comments in the reviews but also some very confusing ones (like the last one)
Sharing? The app is on the market. I figure that's the best way to share it.
So far the biggest annoyance has been working with the layouts and getting them to look right on as many phones as possible.

Yes sharing. By just putting on the market you are doing passive marketing. By switching to active marketing you can get a higher number of active users and a higher income from ads.

No luck with Google, anyone tried Amazon?

Hello, I only published one app and was hoping it would at least get me my 25$ back.
I'm from Romania and I don't find 25$ to be a cheap price. The other problem with me being Romanian is that I can't open a merchant account, so I can only post free apps. My option was to use AdMob to get a little income. It wasn't much, having only gathered 4.40$ in 3 months. On top of that, my admob was suspended and I don't know why, I read the rules and as far as I know I didn't do anything wrong. I suspect someone purposely made fake clicks in my app just to mess with me.
I now decided to try Amazon App store, they let me publish paid apps even from my country. I know there were some people who asked for a paid version with no ads. I don't know how to deal with this situation now, I have the google play app which is free but it has a Donate popup. And then there's the same app (not yet approved) but without the donate links on the amazon app store.
Have you ever tried Amazon app store? Do people really buy apps there?
What do you suggest I do?

I had bad experience with Amazon store, they take long time to approve apps.
Imo there is no good enough alternative for Google Play at the moment
Same here, rather bad luck with Amazon to date...

i suggest you try slideMe appstore.

Both amazon and getjar weren't really useful for me. I did get more traffic from the Opera store. Since my game focuses on in app purchases to make $ it's hard to get traction on any other store since currently I use IAB.
What kind of app did you have? Games I think are most successful with ads, but in the end it depends from app to app, I guess.
You can try Samsung App here: http://seller.samsungapps.com/
I have bad experience with Amazon. Low downloads and last weeks Admob ecpm is extremely low (about 0.05). Has anybody tried to integrate Amazon's banner ads?
Amazon app store is an avenue that developers are still figuring out how to utilize optimally for their purpose.
I agree with most of what has been said here... I don't get even 1% of the amount of downloads from Amazon as I do from Play. In my opinion it is just not Amazon's focus as Play is "THE" store front for apps. I think like most business ventures, it has a lot to do with timing. What kind of niche are your getting into. If super saturated, you may need to create a category within a category in order to reach new users.
You can win Kindle Fire HD now for integrating their api.

Agreeing with previous posters that Google Play doesn't have a good enough alternative yet...
Have tried SlideMe and Amazon and neither have got close to the Play Store in my case.

True, but ARPU on Amazon is far better than on GPlay. Of course GPlay is x10 (at least) when it comes to its reach but if you have a good app, use Amazon's APIs (ads, inapps, etc.) and talk to them, you might get featured. My experience is they actually respond to emails
Amazon Appstore will not make you uber-rich but it's a valid option, much better than GetJar imho.

Any experience with appszoom reviews?

Hi all,
I was investigating different ways to promote my app and I was thinking on appszoom. I thought those reviews were only under payment but I just found out that you can also apply for a free review! However, unders those conditions: "You can also request your review for free and you'll get it published within 60 days"
Has anyone tried a free review with them?
appszoom.com is a very good apps review site
appszoom.com have reviewed two of my apps
* NewsDrift
* Africa Safaris
I really liked the way they did the reviews. You don't have to wait for 60 days. For instance, NewsDrift was reviewed within 48 hours of submitting the app. The reviews were also very well done - I also got to be featured on their home page under Latest Reviews.
I would recommend appszoom any day.
A good way to promote your app/game
I also ad my app/game listed and reviewed by Appzoom.com :
Konbo Monsters
I really think they did a fair review and my game was featured in its Latest Reviews section.
If you want a good way to promote your app, choose the AppZoom.com
Thanks for your answers! Indeed those reviews look pretty professional.
Did any of you use a paid review (specially since you mentioned within 48h) or you took the free option? If so, how much does it cost?
Yes, the reviews are very professional...I did not have to pay anything. Both of my apps were reviewed for free... I was really impressed.

I had used their free review service, and got a quick response.
Also, the review process took shorter than expected and was very well done.
I'd used their service for my Android Game.

Yes, I have tried to submit an app on Appszoom but didn't succed. At last they ask to pay a fixed amount to publish my app review on their website. You should try some other website to publish a free review about your app. You should also consider App store optimization to increase app downloads from app stores.

Hi Richard,
I'm sorry to hear you were unable to submit your app for review. Did you get in touch with the AppsZoom support? [email protected]
I work there and I'm sure they can work something out for you, there is no reason you shouldn't be able to get a free review, AppsZoom always offers free reviews unless the app is not available in their testing country, or it is not a free app, but in both cases you can send them an APK or promo code so that they can review it, and you don't have to pay. Sorry if there was any confusion!
Tell me if you notice a big increase of downloads after they've reviewed your apps? Many people told me that it is not worth to buy reviews.

Hi! I just want to clarify that the point of reviews is not to get installs, but to increase visibility. If your app is good, people will install it and in AppsZoom reviewed apps receive 4x more installs than those without reviews. While the reviews are not app promotions, but the benefit of the Premium review is that the app appears in a Premium position in the homepage and for a longer period of time than free reviews. The other benefit of Premium reviews (besides being published within 48 hours) is that the developer approves it before it is published, so if you're not happy with the review you can block it from being published. Hope that helps clarify!

Ok I see what you mean, but at the end I would like to have more active users. I have to pay for review so i can use ROI to do some calculation. I want to earn so if this investment won't make any profits I don't want to pay for it. Review at good App Review Site = Increase Visibility = More Active Users = Higher Revenue. Right? I just want to know what Review Site is worth to pay.
How long did you wait for an answer?
So guys, those of you that used Appszoom, did you notice any increase in sale at all, or just a nice review?
Update from Appszoom
Hi guys!
A quick update since some things have changed at Appszoom. We've redesigned our homepage, added a few new services, and due to really high demand for reviews, we've removed the free review request, but you can still email us (hello at appszoom dot com) about your app and let us know you'd like a free review. We may not always be able to guarantee a review, but we'll do our best to help you!
Keep in mind that there's a big difference between free and Premium Reviews:
Premium Reviews are ready within 2 work days (free reviews take much longer) and you pre-approve the review before it's published (free reviews are published when ready). The Premium Review also gets featured for up to four days in our homepage and in our "more reviews" section.
If I missed something, just ask away! Happy apping guys!

Since Appszoom's SDK also displays banners, it's advisable to remove AdMob SDK if you prefer to use Appszoom's SDK, however it is not mandatory. We recommend you only use one banner provider, since otherwise you could overwhelm your app with banners, which doesn't make for a nice user experience. You can make money from the SDK too - it works through cross promotion, which is a free exchange of banner impressions with other apps, or also through monetization, whereby your app displays paid ads for apps and you receive money when someone installs the app from the ad. They are all interstitial banners, meaning they don't appear permanently in any position. You can manage all the SDK stats from your Appszoom dashboard and it's a very flexible service. You can use both cross promotion and monetization or just one or the other.
Regarding your app in Appszoom - it is linked with Google Play (or the app store, depending on the app) meaning when a user clicks to download they are sent to the corresponding market. Appszoom is an app discovery site and app, driving more installs to the markets.
Hope that helps!

[Q] Is my game so crappy in WP8 standards?

Hello everybody,
Two days ago I have published a FREE game on windows phone store. Here is the link:
www(dothere)windowsphone.com/en-US/store/app/brave-furries/99d039e7-60f3-43ea-b666-7442e78ab24d
Anyway the game is a port from Android and iOS. I thought I will try WP8 this time as well (I have no experiance with this platform). After two days in the store I have NO reviews and the game is not even in new + rising section. MSFT says that download data will be available after 10 days (for new apps) but I already can tell that they will be horrible.
On iOS I had few hundred downloads on the first day and the app is PAID on iOS so I assumed it would be much better on WP8 where it is FREE. Maybe someone could check the app and let me know if I made any mistakes when publishing or the game is just crappy ?
Thanks for any feedback!
An interesting game, however, I think the main problem for not having reviews is that it is for polish market, although can be downloaded. Try advertising it a bit more

Thanks for your feedback. I am in Poland but do you say that it is not downloadable in other countries or is it "rather for polish customers"?
Also I have noticed that I included polish version link above. Sorry for this (changed to english).
It is downloadable, but I have found it just when searching specifically for it, when I saw everything on the link u left here. So if I do not know about the game or some app I cannot download it, because it won't be shown to me. That is the reason for which u have to advertise it more. Also, I am getting rather annoyed by the multiple "animations" between the levels... Would be also great to make it universal - for tablets and desktops... I don't like playing on my phone, but am enjoying it on my tablet.
Its quite an interesting game buddy
game looks nice
Thank you for the nice words and feedback. I will definately think of making the app universal if by any chance it will generate enough money for me to buy a tablet for testing
Did anyone try to buy the WIndows Phone advertising that can be purcheased on Dev Center page? What is the average user acquisition cost with this option ?
Btw. The game got featured in Germany today. If anyone would be intersted how many downloads it generated than please ask me in 4 days (SLA time).
My email: maciej.struzyna(you know what)crazygoatgames.pl
