Camera failure - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey I just bought my S3 and I recognized that my camera has got a failure.?
When I want to capture a video there is One Pixel which flickers white :/ Am I the only person who has this problem ?
This problem occurs when I want to record a video but when I capture a photo there's no white flickering Pixel.
Is this a warranty problem ?

There's nothing wrong in that screenshot, it seems to me that your screen has that problem.
Actually when you zoom WAY in there is something.
Try take it back.

I'll try. The resolution is very small ( the xda app Dosen't Support bigger pictures )

Don't worry about it, it's only one pixel.

I had the same problem. The only incident that I remember might cause this problem is that I rooted my mobile using the Samsung GS3 toolkit v1.0. I did that yesterday only. (See the firmware info attached). Since then, the camera app has same symptoms you mentioned and a dialog box: "Warning: Camera Failed" and a lovely "OK" button. (attached as well)
Any Hellllllllllllllllp???

Dears,
I was able to fix the camera problem. Thank God.
I installed the SGS3 International toolkit v 4.0, used the rooting options to re-root the phone (Flash insecure Boot Image and Root Phone), made sure that the Busybox is installed, then rebooted.
It went fine with me and the camera is working now. I am attaching the images of the Kernel version. May be the whole problem was with the ninphetamin3-1.1.0 that was used to set a higher clock speed? Not pretty sure.
Regards,

Samsung GS3 camera - the worst I ever had

Hello !
When I am recording a movie (with antishake off or on - is the same) camera is starting to refocus after every 3 seconds when I dont have moving persons/objects and even often when I have. So, my movies are useless (unlike my old iphone 4s which is recording perfectly). Is there any trick or settings to make it better or at least useful?
Thank you

I had to update my camera firmware manualy even after updating the phone to LG8
use *#7412365# to see if the Cam fw ver is the same as Phone fw ver. If the phone version is newer you can update using the Phone to Cam write (rear)
I dont have this problem, nor on stock rom or SuperNexus
based upon general opinion and a vast number of reviews of the camera including test pictures .I would return the phone under warranty with a faulty camera .

Definitely a problem with your unit.

Samsung GS3 camera - the worst I have ever had
I have the last firmware (LG8), camera fw version is the same as phone ver, you cannot choose autofocus to be on or off (in camera record mode) and this is not a problem with my unit (I was playing with a demo unit at samsung store - works the same as mine - and i have already read about this problem everywere, even in this forum).
So, do you think this is all I can get from this camera ?
Thank you

If you tap the screen while recording it will go to manual focus and it will stop the focus hunting every 3 seconds. A button wiill then appear to switch back to auto.

[Q] Blurry Camera

Hello All,
Of late, I have found my camera pics to be very blurry ... even when I am using camera app to view (as viewfinder) the image is very blurry and the whites are over-exposed.
I already tried resetting to default settings, replacing camera app in system/app. Issue is still persisting.
Do you guys think a camera firmware update/ change would sort it out. If yes, where can I get it for my Samsung GT-I9100
Any other solutions ?
I suspect the issue is happening after I flashed a custom, which I cant remember the name now ... ( yes, I have been living with the bad camera for some months now ... )
This is very annoying ...
any help please.

have you tried flashing a stock rom/firmware and do a factory reset, wipe dalvik caches, fix permissions, etc?

Doesn't matter if its on macro mode or not ... pictures are blurry and out of focus.
I can see that the plastic cover in front if the lens is scratched and dirty.
Seems a design error.
I need to remove that now. Any help please. Been try with a pin but I dont know the contact points

Oh, also it move by itself and if i type on contacts for exaple it execute my command and do one extra touch on some porson from my contacts. I'm convinced that it's a software problem but may i'm thinking wrong?

Must be the touch driver crashing....
*clean your screen, fluids tend to crash touch driver and like you mentioned locking, wiping the screen and unlocking will get it working.
If that doesn't work
*maybe it's because of some app you use crashing/colliding check and see you may might have to try un installing the apps which you installed or updated when the problem started to occur.
*if above two failed try performing a factory reset might help .
*finally flashing a new stock firmware will correct the problem if all above methods failed.

Well.....I think you have just found the answer to your question
Remove it and see if it's all good. If not, returning time it is, don't even bother go flashing firmwares. It's a brand new phone.
Good morning. Guys i was thinking that my screen protection isn't a problem because if i lock the screen and i open it again all works. And sometimes when i'm typeing a text message or i'm on browser it seems to type by itself and i'm looking scared .
p.s : i flashed a new stock rom(4.0.3) , i wiped it and i did all i could. the problem is still there.

[Q] Faulty camera app on cm 10.1 nightly

Hey guys,
Just replaced my corosed htc one x with a brand new i9300.
The first thing I did was installing cwm and cm 10.1 latest nightly.
I have noticed that there is a known camera app bug with touch to focus option and flash(it just crashes and takes a grey pic)
Is anybody working on this?
Can anyone reccomend a good alternative camera app?
Thanks!
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Take pictures without using touch to focus. When you accidentally do touch the screen, close the app and reopen it. Or use a stock rom. Also concider to let the S3 become your last Samsung phone like a lot of us do and get a Nexus phone next time.
Oh and I read that you can get the Huawei camera app on your phone and that one is supposed to work perfectly, but I didn't test it myself.
Hey,
Thanks for the advice, I'll try it.
So nobody is trying to fix the bug?

Instead of creating a new thread, search for the issue on the thread of the ROM that you're using - which is CM10.1. You'll find all answers and workarounds there, and it'll take you less than 15 minutes to go through all the relevant posts, as opposed to an unknown number of days and unreliable replies here.
