SK17i - lot of help - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

hello everyone!
I need your help and opinions
I followed this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695514
with success but now after too many attempts of mods my mini pro is slow!
only yesterday I learned to use the x-parts and the recovery, to make a new backup and restore the last bacukp ...
now I want to reset when i did the tutorial because yesterday try to install the supercharger without sucess...
1-only need this step:
IV. Flash 4.0.4 ROM: ??
2-someone can give me some tips on how to best roms and kernels to sk17i?
3-to use the recovery only need to make a new backup, install a new mod and if something is not right just restore the last backup?
4-to improve the sound tried different mods, beats and other audio, which is best for sk17i?
I have more questions now but these are the most important ....
thanks to those who help me

For flashing Android 4.0.4 you can just follow the tutorial you tried to root. You just have to this.
A good Androd 4.0.4 rom and kernel is cyanogenmod 9 or if you want Android 4.1.1 jelly bean you could try CM10 Alpha.
But remeber that your bootloader has to be unlocked!

answer for no. 2: you can try Real ics 5.2, used krsh kernel v3.smartassv2 governor. i got 2 days top with light usage. for the audio, nah i dont know.sorry.

For no.2 you can use exmiui and krsh kernel. And for no.4 I think the stock xloud is good enough or else you can try using dsp manager and a third party music player like PowerAmp. Yes for no.3.

To answer number 2, in my opinion, stock ICS plus some mods like Xperia S Walkman, Lasan mods (I use 1, 4 and 5 from that post), V6 supercharger (after flashing lasan mods, you can get 100% supercharged "automagically") give the best experience in terms of stability and smoothness.
I also tried Real Ics 5.1 and it was a great rom, but a little too heavy for me. I'm currently following the JB roms :fingers-crossed:
For number 3, yes, you make a backup, install whatever you want, try for a few hours/days and if you don't like, just go into CWM and restore (no need to wipe).
Hope that helps :good:

You need an unlocked bootloader for any kernel flash. First unlock bootloader for installing custom kernel. All Cyanogenmod versions are only working with unlocked bootloader...

I'll try the unlocked bootloader...

[Q] Stable Rom for mini pro

Hi there.i Got sick of those bugs 24/7...I've downloaded like 5-6 roms.Started last year from some froyo rom which was one of the best. Then decided to update and now i am back to stock cuz that 2.3 is rly annoying...Got loop bugs while listening to music and also crashing apps when they've been moved to my sd card.So can u suggest me a stable rom.
I am with stock kernel and i don't want to update to custom.

That could be a problem. You´ll need a custom kernal for a good performance.
A custom kernel is especially build for GB and yours is for eclaire and current roms which are verry smooth work just with custom kernal.
That's bad tommorow i will try to unlock it Though i still dunno how to.Those tutorials are so bad(no offence )
Edit:Can someone give me tutorial in which links are actually working ?

[Q] Quick question regarding updating.

Dear reader,
I've currently been using Cyanomod for 2.3.7 Gingerbread.
My phone is rooted and everything (which took a little while )
Everything is running perfectly fine, but i would like to update my phone to android 4.0+ (whatever the lastest compatible version might be)
How should i go about this?
Do i basically uninstall everything and start from scratch or is there an easy method to quickly update my phone to android 4.
Kind Regards and Thank you for your time!
I believe the answer us first to backup your apps with titanium backup if you need them. Then go to recovery and backup your current Rom. (always be sure to do this). from recovery wipe factory reset and dalvik cache. Then install your new Rom from zip.
You cannot install an android 4.0 + over another version. Always backup and wipe.

Do i need to re-root my phone when i install a new Rom? Or should i just install it through recovery?
Rom's are pre rooted (expect stock, stock BASED roms ARE pre-rooted), once you've installed the rom through cwm, it will be rooted and ready.

If your bootloader is unlocked, you can easily flash a custom kernel (Based on ics, so it'll be compatible with ics rom) And boot into recovery, and flash a custom rom based on ics.
One last question, since i'm having trouble finding compatible roms.
Which one would any of you, recommend for me to use ?
I have a ST18i and i'd like the lastest compatible rom.
Thanks so much for the fast reponses and ofcourse the help.
Kind Regards,
Since you're using CyanogenMod 7 I would recommend you to use CyanogenMod 9.1 i.e. FXP 138 is the best in my experience.

If your finding trouble with compatible roms are you saying your getting bootloops when trying them?, because a different Android Version requires a different kernel, So if you haven't or forget to flash the kernel recommended or provided then that would possibly be where your compatibility issues lye as you will get bootloops if you don't and you are changing version. As Mikii suggested earlier.

Ahhh that must be it then.. I've been using the same kernel for quite some time now because it was quite a hassle to flash it. Different roms come with different kernels (at times). I'll have to figure out how to flash kernels again. Gonna check around the forums to see if i can find a suitable thread.
Thanks so much

The fastest way to flash a kernel is to use the program called flashtool, click on the lightening bolt, select Fastboot mode, then select kernel to flash find the kernel you want to flash and it should be done within literally 2 seconds. once Flashtool gives you the all clear, disconnect your phone from usb, restart phone, and there you go, the old kernel will be overwritten, and so will that kernel's cwm version, with the one from the new kernel.
Try FXP138

Best Rom & xrecovery

I have sony ericsson xperia x10 mini pro.
Model: U20i
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Band: M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53404015
Kernel: 2.6.29 [email protected] #1
Build: 2.1.1.A.0.6
I have root right but don't have xrecovery, how to install it? ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950324 i have read here but when don't find install busybox in titanium backup)
I need a rom with 2.3, ottimized for NO gaming but for save battery who can advise me? Don't need any useless application for example google maps, facebook, voice service etc..
Since you already rooted your phone, use RecoverX to install CWM or xrecovery...

There is no point on asking this!
It could end with lots of different opinions, as IAmNice has already said.
But, since you have already installed CWM, practically you can try different roms very quickly. After a few installations you will probably have decided what's best for you.
Then, you could just make a backup and in the future try other roms that appear without the risk to install everything "from the scratch"...
First you should try some, that runs on the stock kernel (if you are not shure what that is, then just avoid ROMs that requires a custom kernel of any kind).
ROMs are the ones in XPERIA X10 Mini Pro Android Development section with title start with [ROM]...
You should focus on Gingerbread ROMs (CM7, 2.3.x). And don't try the ones that requires extra modules if they are not available. Mostly this means "older" ones. But they are often stable and fast and uses less battery
Just to set you off on a good start:
SonyStyle - V1.1 FINAL
MiniCM7Pro - V21 (For Stock kernel)
Cyanogen Gingerbread CM7 based on MiniCM for MiniPro (v15.0)
xCyanogenPro - Gingerbread - v12
Flame.GDX ICS (2.3.7 nightly) 8/12/2011
Andread 2.2.9 Pro v9f - Andread 2.3.5 Pro v3 only 63Mb
As you start to try different roms and gets used to the process you can then unlock bootloader and install custom kernel <- wait to do this untill you feel ready and have read about other users trouble.
Don't know if it's the best but I recommend MiniCM-2.2.1 (by nAa and D_d). Here.
However now I'm testing MiniCM10-4.0.2... and so far so good.
Go for

[Q] Ray: From FXP to ICS

Ok so now that I've played with JB, I wanted to try out xperia ultimate hd for instance.
Problem is, I already had a lot upgrading from stock ICS to JB FXP.
So now the question: What are the steps to be sure there 's no problem at all while I change from
Flykernel+FXP
to
Xperia ultimate hd.
I unzipped the source, but can't find any ICS kernel to flash with flashtool. And I think I can not just reboot in recovery and flash the new rom, am I wrong ?
Searched for a clue on xda, sorry if I missed a post with the answer in it.
You should flash an ics kernel like rage kernel and flash the xperia ultimate HD rom in recovery. Don't forget about the wipes, it should work
What are the issues you are afraid of?

flykernel for ics has recovery just use it. You will want to flash the kernel first and then use the CWM from flykernel ics to flash the rom. Since there was no kernel inside the ROM this probably means it uses the stock kernel.
Ok thanks ! reasons why I want to change is :
-> Google Search is leeching my battery, I tried everything from disabling location or history, still draining do not know why...
-> No OTA on FXP, you guys know if there is any chances there would be on CM10 unoff ? CM10 supposed to bring OTA, do not know if FXP will.
->Still my battery is fine with smartassV2 / Sio, but I miss the auto brightness and I wanted a more stable / Battery friendly rom. Is ultimate HD the right choice ?

[Q] Stock ICS ROM+Root for XU

Hi every1, I have an xu and it's been a while since i flashed it to 2.3.7 (Build .184) and now it's working kinda slow... also I wanna go back to ics for many reasons.. I was pretty sure that now i could just update my phone to ics using pcc but both, PCC and US tell me that I already have the latest android version for my device...
So my question is- how can I flash back to ics? which ics build is the best in ur opinion(most importantly smooth!!)? and how can I root my phone with that version? (cuz i know that last time i tried rooting .54 with Binary's root method it didn't work for me)
Can any1 please help me answer these questions? and add good guidelines, I'm a nub when it comes to this
Thanks in advance!!

The only Sony ICS I've used was .54, and to root it the hard way (that is, without BL unlock) you must replace the kernel with the one from .10
I'm also a very satisfied GB user, but trying AOSP 4.1.2 now

2- Yes, you still use the .10 kernel + flashtool root + reinstall stock kernel
1- You inspired me to try a home slimmed .100, but my opinion says it'll be worse than GB .188
should use pre rooted kernel, as the kernel Sliding ICS.
already root and cwm :good:
