try looking for a type of linux called "parted magic" its a smaller sized linux OS that can get the job done and you can boot it from a usb drive run it then delete it... best place to locate a version of parted magic is Hirens boot cd version 15... but without linux you can not downgrade.... step one ...get linux,... when you get that OS post back and we can help you from there
thankyou sincerely I will definately postback
OK turns out I got Ubuntu barely working on here what do I need to do now

I'm hoping that you didn't get a bad vibe in one of the downgrade threads. I am personally willing to help as much as possible. Give the CD in my signature a try. There are instructions in post #3 of my thread. If you follow them step-by-step, you should be fine. Please don't be turned off by what happened. I'm sorry.

I agree with closeone. His boot disk is the work around you need. If you cant burn the cd get you a usb thumb drive and boot from there. I unfortunately cant get the 2.17 to brick. Its saying it cant find the image but the PG86IMG.zip is in the root. Also before that its searching for another file. The sd card is in NTFS could this have something to do with it? I have tried multiple 2.17 RUUs so i dont think the image is corrupt...

Hi Ron. It's very possible that it being formatted NTFS is the issue. Generally, you'll format your smaller media as FAT32. Second reason may be because the zip file has been named PG86IMG.zip.zip. If you have 'show file extensions' turned off, then the file should just be named PG86IMG.
~co~
Thanks ill try reformatting it tomorrow when i get off work. I always keep my extensions shown so its only 1 zip so ill try fat32 and get back to ya tomorrow evening. Thanks a ton and great work!

Hi,
Ive been meaning to S-Off my HTC ReZound in order to RUU back to Stock and hopefully get a replacement phone due to some issues. I only have a Macbook Pro but I do have Parallel 7 installed running Windows 8 Release Preview. I also have the necessary Fastboot and ABD files to HTCdev unlock and run commands. I just want to know how I can go about S-Off-ing my device, if possible, on my Mac
The follow is what my phone is currently at/running. Some detailed instructions on how to would be much appreciated. Thanks

Yea I read all that, wondering which download/rom to use and if I'm on a correct firmware..
Looks like you're on ICS with 2.21 HBOOT. Get the ICS version...
This is an older thread but I'm reviving it as a mac user. I just recently got my (very old) original Intel imac back from my inlaws as they upgraded to a refurbished mac. The screen is going, and it can't be upgraded anymore to a higher OS as is not a Core Duo 2 chip. Anyway, as I don't have space to partition my Mac Air (yes I'm a Mac fanboy, but iphone hater) I used to have bootcamp on the old iMac and used to run windows XP on it. Back then I was first transitioning to Mac, so I wasn't going cold turkey. I'm windows free and have been for a while. Long story....getting to the point here, if I can find my old XP disc, I can reinstall Windows on it. Is it possible to S-off with Unlimited's Juopunutbear with XP? Again, I've been out of the Windows game for a while, so give me slap if I sound silly. I'm about ready to get this thing S-off and do the ROM thing again (Darn I miss the ease of my Dinc). My phone crapped out the other day and I was stuck on a white HTC screen, so I had to relock and run the global RUU again. But I'd like to try roms on the stock firmware, and with the most recent release, I'm sure some Roms might be built from that too.
Sugarhill, I may have missed it but was your rezound previously s-off? I only ask because you do not have to re s-off ever if your rez was s-off before. Unless you flashed a non engineering bootloader and ran the lock command from fastboot.

No Stang, I was never S-off on my Rezound. I'm a Mac only household, and my work computer (windows...and I barely use it) cannot download or install stuff without administrator privileges so I've never been able to S-off. I'd like to, and with the reaquisition of my old iMac, it has been previously licensed to run my copy of Windows XP on it through apple's bootcamp program.
I miss my dinc and getting your rooted versions of updates for it.

I know you're trying to help me, but I'm just not getting it. Still no idea what you're saying. Just read an article about somebody dual booting Ubuntu 12.04 on an original intel imac just fine. So I'm going to try that this weekend, and see if I can't finally get this thing S-off. I used to try Roms left and right on my Dinc. While I use my phone now more than ever during the day than I did back then, I won't be able to change quite so often, but some of the Roms I've looked into seem pretty awesome.
I cant seem to get by this step. Stuck on step 9 of DirtyRacun
My RUU.zip is in the Dirtyracun folder on Ubuntu LiveCD and have verified the checksum. Ihave seen by a google search that other people outher have had this problem (pastebin) but I havent been able to find a solution. Can anyone help me? Everry thing has worked in the s-off process til now...
Have you tried the support channel? Are you on 3.16? If not you can use FacePalm
I had firefox crash on me and this RUU takes forever to download. Right now I am stuck at the HTC logo and cant move forward. I have tried the IRC but i sat there for 30 min looking at no response. I have downloaded this thing 4 times now.
if I ty fastboot reboot, it tells me I ont have fastboot installed? I wouldnt mind trying something else if I could get my phone back!
Hmmmm I never used DirtyRacun so can't really help much IRC is your only choice sorry
Edit did you try flushing it again?
Yes, like 3 or 4 times!..Downloading again...
Any luck?

do you have htc sync installed? it seems that you need to have this installed to have the phone recognized for fastboot it happened to me and I have used dirty racun twice as I had my evo replaced twice this month, install it and then try to run the fast boot commands, good luck!
Mac problem?
Could the problem is that I'm running Ubuntu from my MAC? See this post:
Can't post the link, but found this on androidforums:
That's based on HTCdev unlock, so as mentioned, use MyBackup Pro and SMS Backup+ to save what you may, that unlock will do a factory data reset, all user data and apps will go away.
That will give you full root, with an s-on unlocked bootloader.
The option to get a s-off unlocked bootloader is only open to you if you have a Windows platform to run the Dirty Racun tool - either in Windows mode or from a Live CD using Ubuntu. (This has to do with how the Mac platform maps access to the usb ports, the Unlimited.IO team's stuff doesn't support it.)
If you do have a PC and want to try Dirty Racun, go here -

I'm ultimately trying to run Jellybean on my phone, with maybe the option of some overclocking...
I'm seeing ALOT of guides, and they tell me that I want Hboot 1.4, S-off, and Revolutionary. Just to be clear, I have no flipping clue to what these are, all I know is that the guides I'm reading tell me I want them.
My Sprint HTC Evo 3D which I only think is CDMA, is on Android 4.0.3, with Hboot 1.58, has twrp 1.1.1 recovery flashed, and is rooted, and I do have a recovery backup from when my phone wasn't rooted.
Out of all the guides I read, I want to avoid any "wire tricks" I wanna go the Live CD way, except that I dont know if I can burn a Live CD to a dvd or not, and I don't know which guide to follow because apparently they all have different versions, and apparently this process is so picky, that I can't do it on usb 3.0.
Just want your opinion (and link) of the best, safest or easiest guide to start on.
i didnt want to do the wire trick at all either but it is soo easy to do and is easier than you think. It will take about 5 minutes max to follow a few instructions and be S-off, then install hboot 1.4 or 1.5 as either will work with the roms you find here. Most will recommend eng hboot 1.04 as a lot of devs use that, it is up to you what you want to use. Hboot install is very easy as all you do is rename the file to PG86IMG and reboot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585846. Just follow the link and easy instructions, this phone is hard to brick so dont worry. if it was high risk then there would not be so many people with S-off this way

I don't want to, but more importantly, can't do the wire trick.
The link you gave me links to the guide that is SPECIFIC in a few key details I can't do. For one, The guide mentions to use Ubuntu 64 bit version, and specifically says USB3 ports wont work. Well my older computer with USB2 ports doesn't support 64-bit systems, and my laptop that does support 64-bit systems only has USB3 ports. I know you usually expect most computers or laptops to have 1-3 USB3 ports and the rest USB2, but mine is all USB3.
I also don't have the original HTC cable. I bought this thing off ebay.
Also the guide mentions that i need to have stock ruu, I don't even know what that is, and the guide doesn't have a download for it. I actually originally wrote that I didn't know what roms or kernals even were, or what this revolutionary or s-off even is. I edited that out of my 1st post because i thought i should just leave the basics.
I guess the unfortunate thing about rooting, unlocking, and flashing android devices is that all the guides have different things... I never had to do all this junk with these ruu's, s-offs, hboots, revolutionaries, linuxes, wire tricks, and so-on with a GT1, Lenovo Thinkpad, or Nexus 7.
Everytime I get a new android device, it's like I have to relearn a totally new process. completely different from what I knew.
Different devices use different security features and require different ways around the blocks and every time a new version of android more exploits are patched and new ones need to be found. It's a constant battle between the manufacturer and the enthusiasts. That said I'm s-off hboot 1.4 and I never did any wire tricks.. I did have to brick my device though... In a specific way
Sent from my Evo V 4G using Tapatalk 2
I used htcdev.com to unlock and j-bear to soff, which I did on my win7 pc. I used a wire cable from an ethernet cable to do the wire trick when the program told me to. I'll double check the link.

Your "Win7 pc" according to that guide, was an Ubuntu PC when you tried to downgrade your Hboot. Because you were booting from the CD and not your harddrive, Windows 7 played no factor in the process. What did matter was your processor. Even if you're using a processor that supports 64 bit systems, then your Windows 7 could be 64-bit or 32-bit. But if your processor supports 32-bit only, then you can only properly run windows 7 32 bit version.
The guide strictly called for Ubuntu 64-bit. Despite what version of Windows 7 you're running, I'm going to take a shot in the dark here and say that your computer you used didn't have an outdated AMD processor from 2005. Even if the computer was sold in 2005, it can run even Windows 8, as long as it's 32 bit.
My understanding of computers and the guide is my old computer's technology can't support a 64-bit system, and my new computer's technology doesn't have old usb technology.
I'll shut my mouth and do the guide if your processor supports 32 bit systems only, or if someone can tell me using a USB 2.0 HUB on a USB 3.0 port will retard my usb3 port to usb2 standards.

Gotta downgrade the hboot to 1.4 and main version to 1.13 to be able to run Revolutionary S-OFF
Not the easiest process but you can do it. Lucky for you I just finished rooting my sprint CDMA with hboot 1.58 with the help of a couple other members. So I put together a step by step summary of how to do it. It involves bricking the phone intentionally, then booting up to linux and running the downgrade tool through the linux terminal, then upgrading the main version to 1.13, running REVOLUTIONARY S-OFF, then finally reupgrading everything back to stock(hboot 1.58 and main version 2.95)
Here you go, good luck :

Yep you can do it through the ubuntu terminal. I did it this way too. You'll need to follow the instructions in unknown forces thread. Carry over the URT tool(ultimate.zip) to the home folder in ubuntu and run it through the ubintu terminal

Pull power 4-5 seconds during the time when it says updating bootloader
Important to note; don't try and boot up regularly after downgrading with URT. As in just pressing power, you will get security warning and be back on hboot 1.58 and have to start all over again. Always vol down + power boot to the bootloader throughout the process.

It will take a few tries...you may have to brick a second time too, if URT didn't lower your main version as well. That's in step 3, you will need to check your main version before running the 1.13 RUU

It is a different PG86IMG file than the one he uses in the video. Smaller and lighter / less load time.
Be sure you are pulling the power at the time it is updated "bootloader" and not any other option in the list.
