Share your allshare cast experience. - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
NOOBS - For those that don't know the difference between ALLSHARE and ALLSHARE CAST please read before replying, thanks.
ALLSHARE - this simply streams bits to your smart TV or compatible wifi media player and plays the actual file on that device, it doesn't do any hardware / software decoding on the phone. This can be a problem is your smart TV or player has limited codec support for instance.
ALLSHARE CAST - this is a different beast altogether and one of the reasons I bought this phone. ALLSHARE cast is basically a mirroring system from your Phone to your TV, essentialyl a wifi HDMI cable as it were. With this option you shoud be able to mirror your phone wirelessly for games and movies and the like on a compatible smart TV with a wifi connection.
The problem is... I cant get it to work. I have tried stock ICS and Jelly ROMS, both with the ALLSHARE CAST option and neither picks up my TV, i definately have a compatible TV (Samsung UE40D8000) so wassp?
update: 27.9.2012 - re conversation on facebook - looks like sammy are backtracking on ALLSHARE CAST as they couldnt get it to work.

UPDATE: 25.9.2012 - after exhaustive hammering at Samsung from various channels there is still no answer on this - here is an update on what is currently known / assumed:
1. Allshare cast is currently only working with the ALLSHARE CAST dongle it will not work with any TV's direct, regardless of model.
2. It is still not clear which TV's are going to work if it does eventually work at all, it was suggested by an OP at Samsung support that it will be only the high end models, although whether this means all those that have WIFI built in or just some of them.
3. The Allshare Cast info on the Samsung Website seems to have changed to me, it previously suggested it would work on all WIFI/DLNA enabled TV's regardless of model.
4. Samsung and other companies are still working on a universal mirroring system which will be an agreed variant of "mirrorcast", Samsungs version of Allshare cast appears to be an early version of this and may in fact not work very well - the lag on the dongle version seems to back this up.
So, if you want to use Allshare cast at the moment you will need a dongle and the dongle has quite a bit of lag which for me rules out gaming. Please also note this information is a best conjecture on my part and so I cannot corroborate any of it, choose to believe it or not, I am happy to make changes to this if people have any more up to date information.
Still waiting for mine, supplier said the dongle will arrive end of August...Will report back how it works out. For know only using wired HDMI adapter.

cheers but its not the dongle I am concerned with, its the direct phone to TV connection I am trying to get working, compatible smart tv's wont need a dongle.
just spoke to Samsung they tell me that the firmware updated hasnt yet been released on all sammy TV's which is why it doesnt work, it is only currently working on the new ES models. They do advise that its not a fault, they are just waiting for the update to come live.
Is the WiFi connection really needed to get this working? I have a U46D6200 without WiFi, but it's connected to my LAN over Ethernet. Of course I have also a WiFi router in the same network so the phone is able to contact the TV using WiFi.

I believe the tv acts as the dongle, therefore you need to have the right model of smart TV with the correct firmware onboard, as far as I know only the new ES models and the older more expensive models have this capability (D7000 and D8000 series), I dont think the 6 series is compatible so you would need the allshare cast dongle - to be safe give samsung a quick call, nice, helpful people I found and wasnt waiting too long and the phone either.
My next TV will be an ES series I should imagine so that's handy.

Hi,
I have the new UN46ES7000 model and allshare cast is not working for me, my tv is not found in allshare cast option. Allshare play, control, wifi-direct and DLNA works perfectly. My TV currently is using 001013 firmware.
Maybe the 2012 models also need a firmware update to work with allshare cast.
[edit] I have a 5 series smart tv [edit]
I have the 6 series smart tv. I cant wait to use allshare cast and I cant figure out how to use allshare at all!
I am not going to buy the dongle as I dont think that I should pay for a smart tv with this functionality and then get told to buy another dongle! I might as well have bought a cheap tv

I cant be sure the ES 5 and 6 series are going to work, you will need to check with samsung. You should also check for a USB firmware update on the sammy website as the support section on your TV only checks for OTA firmware updates, mine had two to collect.
check you TV compatibility first, then Update your TV, flash back to stock ROM and if still not working i'd log a fault with Sammy in their support section. I cant log one yet as i have the UE40D8000 which is awaiting the official firmware update.

What does flash back to stock ROM mean? Im sorry i have no idea about all this . New to android and samsung . Also , i have to check the usn update on the website from my tv or what?
xda is primarily for people who want to develop existing ROMS and provide a better experience for users, if you dont know what flashing a ROM means you really need to do some reading before you go any further. Its ok to use XDA for info and reference but you should try to contribute a little as well where you can.

He means by flashing a stock ROM is to restore your phone to the ROM it originaly came with, i.e including carrier branding! If you dont know about swapping ROM's you shouldnt need to flash your phone back to a stock ROM
there isnt any need to be rude!!! I learned how to root/mod my phones through XDA!!! I am just a fast learner though so it didnt take me as long as it will with others!!!
I hope this helps

Rude, who was being rude?, my reply was accurate and concise, nothing more. If this is what you think passes for rudeness these days I think you should probably try to get out more fella

damn dude come off that mountain and stop preaching the people you hardly know assuming there way less then you lol
that is called narcism btw
on-topic.. i have a es8000 1018 firmware latest model 2012 and a s3 latest 32gb model with latest 4.04 firmware on them and this allshare cast dont work , it finds no device. allshare control and play versions do work. smartview 3.20 gives subscribtion tv to my s3 phone (really briljant this option). the thing is i found this program called playto samsung tv on my s3 which can play a lot of social media stuff (youtube vimeo metacafe and much more) to the tv from the phone. weird thing is when it actually wants to play a video on the tv which the tv doesnt support u get this quick preview of the android desktop on the tv. this makes me think it works allready, only thing is to find out how
it would need a wifi-direct connection to the tv and the tv should show up as a device on the phonescreen. alas it does not. so the thing is not ready yet allthough this playto samsung tv prog shows me different.

I still think you need to check your definition of rude, the guy seemed to be a total noob, I was just providing some info about how this place works.
back on topic - I have had a similar experience with mine, pretty much given up on it now though as it seems clear this isn't going to work, I doubt it will ever work even though it was promised by Samsung and is still promised as "coming soon" on their website. It wouldn't surprise me if it comes out working on the SGS4 off the bat and they rename it "mirror cast" as this is actually what it is. I did a bit of research on this the other day, I think Samsung have bolted out of the door on this one too early, I don't think it is stable for them which is why they haven't released it. Obviously they aren't going to admit that though.
i wanna buy a 32 inch smart tv with wifi, i need some suggestions, i actually want to use both all share functions as written in op, tell me which model should i buy, my budget is not too high, thanks

Samsung 5600 es series ( the newest one ) is a good option . But you need the wifi dongle with that , although mine was free. ( with the 40 inch ) it has allshare features.

DSLR Controller now available in Market (very cool)
While a thread on this topic does exist in the xda General section, I thought it would be nice to get a GTab-specific discussion on this particular new app. For all the photographers out there (well in this case, those who use Canon DSLR's), an absolutely incredible new app has gone to beta, called DSLR Controller. I won't bother repeating whats in the other thread, so you can see for yourself here I have already purchased and installed it on my GTab, which is by the way running the Bonsai TW rom, and for the most part it works, with the exception of a few little bugs. Specifically, the touch-screen-to-focus only works the first time you try to do so after opening the program; after that it doesn't work and you need to use the manual toggles for focusing. I have yet to try it out on the stock 3.1 to see if perhaps the TW thing is the issue, though I anticipate doing some wipes and rom flashes in the coming days once an update.zip is available for the stock US version of the TW rom. Anyways just hoping that other 10.1 owners who are interested in this incredible app might be able to chime in with their experiences. Overall this app has HUGE potential for us photographers
thanks for this, I am planning on getting a 7D soon so hopefully this works out
I own a 7D, 60D and a 5D MKII. This works on all of them.

This app looks absolutely amazing! I've seen various apps that connect to the computer program to control the camera. I dreamed off an app that would not require the computer. I never though it was possible, but I guess it is. So all we need is the samsung usb adapter and our camera's usb camera? Can't wait to use this with my 7D!
OTG Cable & HDMI MHL Adapter
Ok i havent gotten my samsung galaxy player 5.0 yet but i am working on it i ran across these 2 amazing accessories. And i was wondering has anyone else tried this on there device. Let me know any info you may have HDMI HHL Adapter http://www.amazon.com/Menotek-Adapt...Sensation/dp/B005F9W6DU/ref=pd_bxgy_cps_img_b OTG Cable http://www.amazon.com/T-Flash-Adapter-Samsung-GT-i9100-GT-N7000/dp/B005FUNYSA/ref=pd_cp_e_1
As for the HDMI, The Samsung galaxy player, dose not support tv out
No OTG support (yet). They recently ported it to the galaxy s, we might be able to get it to work at least on the 4.0, witch is pretty much identical from what I have seen. So far I have confirmed their partitions are mounted identically, they have the same CPU, and I think they might even have the same motherboard (both of them have "ro.board.platform=s5pc110" in build.prop, not sure if that is the MB or not). The 5.0 is a totally different story though...
OP, you should go for the korean version if you want the HDMI output. This version also supports 1080p (the device is also in english), has 16 or 32gb, and I found something very amusing : the korean version is made in Korea, whereas all the other versions are made in China. I guess koreans only buy korean products, haha! But I couldn't tell if it's any better...
MHL is definitely not present in the 5.0 - I tried the adapter that came with my Infuse. There's a chance it might support analog TVout via the headphone jack, but this is unknown and no one has tried it yet. Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
Hey entropy512, would you be willing to edit the settings.apk for the 4.0 U.S. version if I sent it to you, then someone with the right cable could see if the tvout works?
I have a TV out cable from my ipod 5g, if someone needs testing, i'm game When I plug the cable into my headphone port, no picture shows up, however the audio dose not switch to headphones, it keeps playing through the speakers, so that must mean something...

Dang, I'm almost sure this has video out, at least the 4.0 since I think it even has the same MB as the gt-i9000! I sure wish I could smai edit the settings.apk so that the option would show up, but I've been looking for a good guide on doing so and have yet to find one. I havn't had time to just learn smali as I have school, so unless there is someone out there with a 4.0 (possibly 5.0 has TV out as well, but less likely) that knows how to smali edit, we're stuck.
If you want tvout settings to appear then all you should need to do is get a settings.apk from a gt-i9000 and load it. Make sure it is the same framework as the one that you are running eg. 2.3.5. The setting will show up but I have found that just having the setting there does nothing if the functionality is not there... Let me know how it goes... Sent from my YP-G70 using XDA App
Well, I asked for the apk two days ago on the gt-i9000 forum but no one ever responded. Guess I'll go bump the thread! I guess those galaxy s owners are to busy to help a poor galaxy player owner, lol!
FYI, You don't need to ask, all you need to do is download a full rom for gt-i9000 and pull the settings.apk out. You can use "kitchen" to do this if it's an odin flash, if it's a CWM zip then just open this zip and extract it out...
Ya, I thought of that, my internet is really slow though, guess I'll start it and it will be done by tonight.
Well, I tried the settings.apk, but it fc when I select display, or any other menu. Any suggestions? I guess the real way to do it would be to smali edit the original, but I have no idea how to do so.
Well, I have a 5.0 and not a 4.0 and I'm using 2.3.6. In the 5.0, settings for tvout are not there. It's just not in the code. If I were you, I would use adb logcat to get the exception info to find out why the settings.apk is fc and go from there....
Eh, I think I might call it quits for now. I've got a busy month, so if someone wants to pick up where I left off, here is the apk someone gave me. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22106185#post22106185
Why doesn't OTG work on the galaxy players? I thought it was standard in all android devices?
I think this player not support TV out?
There is a small chance it supports TV out via the 3.5mm jack. Someone needs to test it with a correct cable first, to confirm or deny. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406174&page=4
Allshare Cast dongle DOA? *working one recieved*
So i finally recieved a allshare cast dongle. However no matter what i do it displays nothing on my tv (or a monitor i tried it with). I'm guessing its DOA, but i just wanted to hear if anyone have any tricks before i send it back... *Update* Got a replacement. Works great, much better than the HTC media link HD. Fairly smooth without being perfect. Seems the picture is compressed quite a bit though. Running JB leak btw.
Allshare cast dongle don't work with custom roms I hope that, they fix it as soon as posible.

Hmm... At home it works like crap... I suspect due to 2.4ghz congestion... However it should run on 5ghz, but there seems to be nowhere to check that : Also the audio plays through the phone speaker... (Might be a JB problem though)
im getting the wireless allshare cast dongle here shortly....and i just wanted to know. will it work with all android phones? My note, Skyrocket, S3....and future use with my Note 2 ? i dont think i will buy one if i can not use it down the line or with my other phones.
[Q] alliexpress got me.. please help me if you can
:crying: hello everyone! I have been on the site for quite sometime and have had so much help and gained so much knowledge from a lot of you here, so I just had to become a part of this amazing forum.. anyway... I bought a bunch of these "2014 newest airplay DLNA miracast android 4.2 TV box With rj45 HDMI AV outPut A20 512MB/4G XBMC Media Player Smart Set Top Box" here's a few pictures of it.. its running an allwinner A20 chip.. the xbmc it came with was just horrid. It would play anything hd on xbmc with extreme lag and chopping.. so I tried some other versions of xbmc and none are stable at all.. I just dug them outta the "man cave" in my house and installed the new xbmc 13 and it seems to be running way faster and smoother..... howwwwever. im getting that issue with no internet.. when im not in xbmc it the internet works great.. I flashed one of the boxes and screwed it right up now because I cant use the remote anymore.. and it wont play anything either. just black screen then freezes up... im wondering if ANYONE has had this box or has any ideas on what I can do to get these things working at least decent.. I found this custom "xbmc hardware accelerated" version which can let me at least watch one channel but it crashes quite often and kicks me right out of xbmc.. any help would be great guys. thank you so much for taking the time to read my nasty post. I just spent over 1000$ on these over 2 months ago and just don't know what to do anymore... I cant even send them back as the company is a joke and wont do anything. so alliexpress was able to get me about 300USD back.. but that's it.. im still out a ton of cash.. I cant add any pictures as I cant seem to save them from the site.. heres a link to what I got exactly ok so I cant add a link either as im a new user. so I guess just type this into alliexpress 2014 newest airplay DLNA miracast android and its the white one on the top.. from enjoying company or whatever... :crying:
Cast screen to appradio3?
Hi guys if your reading this maybe you can help me. I have an appradio3 that I to be able to cast my screen onto. Now brief background, I used to be on Verizon limited data with a rooted note2 that I direct connected via HDMI. I now have mistakingly switched to att and now i have a new note7 that doesn't have anyway to connect directly to the deck since Samsung has taken it out. Now I've since read about using a Chromecast and casting that way. That's all well and good if and only if you have a Wi-Fi hotspot on your phone which I don't and i dont want to pay for the very limited hotspot plan for my phone to do that. Now I'm not opposed to rooting my note7 which I've looked into that but I've got an sm-n930a. And using the Sprint method doesn't work well for my model. Seen a video were a guy did get his tmoblie phone to root but the process was very lengthy. Or I'm not opposed to rooting if possible the Chromecast. I've got both the newer and the older version of that. I've looking briefly through the Chromecast threads and didn't see if once rooted that you could Wi-Fi direct to the CC. Like once your setting it up it Wi-Fi directs to your phone then switches to normal Wi-Fi. Is this possible??? Or if there's any other device that could get this to work with an appradio3 I'll totally try that.

Click to collapse I'm guessing after the note 7 recall this issue has "solved" its self... I am curious what you did wind up doing. I have the same App radio 3. I used to mirror my S5 to the thing with a samsung hdmi adapter and had full bluetooth touch controlls. Ever since android started setting selinuix to enforced it has become an issue to emulate touch control from the app radio to the phone. Screen mirriroing alone didnt really make me all that happy since I couldnt make it do much without touching the phone. Do you by chance have any advise on this? What phone did you go to after the Note 7?
Well unfortunately I've gone to an iPhone 7 plus. Which I'm a droid person at heart and it's been a hard switch. Mainly cause I like the ability to mod the droid over iPhone. That said though the iPhone can still hook up to the AppRadio once you've got the appropriate adapters. So right now I can mirror the phone and can watch YouTube videos on the deck. If watching a YouTube it'll allow the phone to go dark or browse for your next video. Still looking into loading videos on the iPhone than watching them on deck but haven't put to much effort into as of yet. The real bummer is that there isn't no support to mod the iPhone to use full touch screen like if you had a droid with the hdmi. I've actually posted on several iPhone forums with just the question and after 2 months have not gotten a response. I still have my note2 and could hook that stuff back up but I have no internet on it so I couldn't watch YouTube from it. And I know this is droid forum but if anybody can help with modding the AppRadio app for iPhone like they did for the droid I'd throw some funds your way, but I can't throw to much since winter time is slow work months for me.
