SO after all the people worrying me I got mine today from Game Stop. Opened it up, rooted it, installed root keeper, upgraded to ICS and upgraded the camera. Wifi works fantastic at my work so far, and GPS locked me on me as soon as I upgraded Google Maps. It wasn't 100% perfect but it was accurate upto 20 meters.
I know this isnt a blog site, I just wanted to give some positive feedback after reading all of these nightmares forever.
Also, I am using wifi and my bluetooth mouse with no problems either.
Now we just need some love from ASUS so we can get some custom ROMs/Kernels
Told ya..lol. Glad to hear its working well for ya.

I do NOT want to be the one to rain on anybody's parade and insist that someone shouldn't love the product they just bought. Hell, I love my Prime as well, although I'm still debating whether to return the one I have with broken haptic feedback in hopes of finally getting one where at least every major component just functions at all.
That said, we do need to keep the issues clear that actually do exist. So:
1. If you have GPS completely turned off, Google Maps will still locate you to 20 meters via wifi-based location services. In fact, you might find that your GPS actually is turned off by default (I can't remember whether mine was on or off out of the box and following the ICS update). However, locking to 20 meters accuracy when connected to wifi has pretty much nothing to do with working or non-working GPS.
2. If you have another Bluetooth device to try other than a mouse, it would be interesting to see if you can stream more data (say, a BT headphone and streaming audio) and retain full wifi performance at the same time.
Nice to hear, I hope it stays (almost perfect).
Just to worry you some more:
Make sure you are streaming audio to a bluetooth from a video or something online. YOu want to make sure your BlueTooth is actually streaming something, and not simply turned on.
Check the edges of your screen. Make sure your screen is not lifting away from the back. This may or may not be a problem for your, but for my prime and some others, the glass appears to be raised above the Back Panel and can basically be pushed flush against it.
I love my prime, I love it. Except, I cannot update it cause I have no Serial Number. Even with my screen a little raised, and some light bleed on the right hand side, I would keep it if I could update the firmware. But I cannot, and have to take it back.

Everything is nice on my Prime. The one thing I noticed on the native video player when playing mkv files. I would get these lines outside the playing video. But if played from a third party player like mx player I have no problems.

Mine is almost perfect save for a spec of dust under the LCD which causes a small greyish dark shadow on white/bright backgrounds...Problem is best buy where i bought it from is out of stock...and with the unknown serial number problem seemingly becoming more commonplace...i dont want to risk replacing this one that works perfect and has one small imperfection...and getting one thats unrootable and unupgradeable...im thinking i will just keep this one and RMA it later on if need be when the bugs and issues have been worked out down the line after all the tab is covered by a 1 year warranty with Asus.

What Bluetooth device were you streaming to; presumably it was audio? While you were streaming to Bluetooth, did you do any SpeedTest runs? Would be interesting to see if you were able to maintain full Internet connectivity over wifi while streaming to Bluetooth...
my replacement ATP should be in today or tomorrow..i hope so.
They have one from a preorder that never picked up and the manager and I both agreed that it would be better not to open up one from the same "batch" but try fresh with this new batch..regardless if the units being released now are the same as before...(i doubt this from a production/shipping standpoint..otherwise if no new units were created...why the massive shortage upon release?)
the last question was more rhetorical.
Glad to see you have yours....I love mine other than what others are facing...screen separation, no GPS(none), WiFi is intermittently crappy...BT issue is intermittent..and something i haven't seen anyone talk about..i have a dead-zone right where the WLAN module seems to be. I've used both the developer screen visualizer and Multitouch Visualizer and have posted the video's confirming it "Skips" at the exact same spot and ONLY that spot.
Being an original transformer owner....I am in love with this one! IMO It is working great right out of the box smooth as butter.... I really don't know whats up with all these post about ICS being buggy,laggy,crashing.....?? This tablet is going to sell because its nice, fast, the screen is amazing and it's beat every other company off the line with cutting edge software & hardware... I'm not saying its perfect but it sure works for me.
I heared Gamespot have some problems with returning policy so im afraid to order one from them... happy to hear you got a good one tho.
but why did you root it? is that a MUST ?

My first Prime I got from GS non tablet store. I was able to return it within the 30 day policy. I just explained about the GPS and random shutdowns and that was that got my money back and now have my replacement from OD. I'm happy and rooted! Can't wait for the unlock bootloader tool.

NOOBS - For those that don't know the difference between ALLSHARE and ALLSHARE CAST please read before replying, thanks.
ALLSHARE - this simply streams bits to your smart TV or compatible wifi media player and plays the actual file on that device, it doesn't do any hardware / software decoding on the phone. This can be a problem is your smart TV or player has limited codec support for instance.
ALLSHARE CAST - this is a different beast altogether and one of the reasons I bought this phone. ALLSHARE cast is basically a mirroring system from your Phone to your TV, essentialyl a wifi HDMI cable as it were. With this option you shoud be able to mirror your phone wirelessly for games and movies and the like on a compatible smart TV with a wifi connection.
The problem is... I cant get it to work. I have tried stock ICS and Jelly ROMS, both with the ALLSHARE CAST option and neither picks up my TV, i definately have a compatible TV (Samsung UE40D8000) so wassp?
update: 27.9.2012 - re conversation on facebook - looks like sammy are backtracking on ALLSHARE CAST as they couldnt get it to work.

UPDATE: 25.9.2012 - after exhaustive hammering at Samsung from various channels there is still no answer on this - here is an update on what is currently known / assumed:
1. Allshare cast is currently only working with the ALLSHARE CAST dongle it will not work with any TV's direct, regardless of model.
2. It is still not clear which TV's are going to work if it does eventually work at all, it was suggested by an OP at Samsung support that it will be only the high end models, although whether this means all those that have WIFI built in or just some of them.
3. The Allshare Cast info on the Samsung Website seems to have changed to me, it previously suggested it would work on all WIFI/DLNA enabled TV's regardless of model.
4. Samsung and other companies are still working on a universal mirroring system which will be an agreed variant of "mirrorcast", Samsungs version of Allshare cast appears to be an early version of this and may in fact not work very well - the lag on the dongle version seems to back this up.
So, if you want to use Allshare cast at the moment you will need a dongle and the dongle has quite a bit of lag which for me rules out gaming. Please also note this information is a best conjecture on my part and so I cannot corroborate any of it, choose to believe it or not, I am happy to make changes to this if people have any more up to date information.
Still waiting for mine, supplier said the dongle will arrive end of August...Will report back how it works out. For know only using wired HDMI adapter.

cheers but its not the dongle I am concerned with, its the direct phone to TV connection I am trying to get working, compatible smart tv's wont need a dongle.
just spoke to Samsung they tell me that the firmware updated hasnt yet been released on all sammy TV's which is why it doesnt work, it is only currently working on the new ES models. They do advise that its not a fault, they are just waiting for the update to come live.
Is the WiFi connection really needed to get this working? I have a U46D6200 without WiFi, but it's connected to my LAN over Ethernet. Of course I have also a WiFi router in the same network so the phone is able to contact the TV using WiFi.

I believe the tv acts as the dongle, therefore you need to have the right model of smart TV with the correct firmware onboard, as far as I know only the new ES models and the older more expensive models have this capability (D7000 and D8000 series), I dont think the 6 series is compatible so you would need the allshare cast dongle - to be safe give samsung a quick call, nice, helpful people I found and wasnt waiting too long and the phone either.
My next TV will be an ES series I should imagine so that's handy.

Hi,
I have the new UN46ES7000 model and allshare cast is not working for me, my tv is not found in allshare cast option. Allshare play, control, wifi-direct and DLNA works perfectly. My TV currently is using 001013 firmware.
Maybe the 2012 models also need a firmware update to work with allshare cast.
[edit] I have a 5 series smart tv [edit]
I have the 6 series smart tv. I cant wait to use allshare cast and I cant figure out how to use allshare at all!
I am not going to buy the dongle as I dont think that I should pay for a smart tv with this functionality and then get told to buy another dongle! I might as well have bought a cheap tv

I cant be sure the ES 5 and 6 series are going to work, you will need to check with samsung. You should also check for a USB firmware update on the sammy website as the support section on your TV only checks for OTA firmware updates, mine had two to collect.
check you TV compatibility first, then Update your TV, flash back to stock ROM and if still not working i'd log a fault with Sammy in their support section. I cant log one yet as i have the UE40D8000 which is awaiting the official firmware update.

What does flash back to stock ROM mean? Im sorry i have no idea about all this . New to android and samsung . Also , i have to check the usn update on the website from my tv or what?
xda is primarily for people who want to develop existing ROMS and provide a better experience for users, if you dont know what flashing a ROM means you really need to do some reading before you go any further. Its ok to use XDA for info and reference but you should try to contribute a little as well where you can.

He means by flashing a stock ROM is to restore your phone to the ROM it originaly came with, i.e including carrier branding! If you dont know about swapping ROM's you shouldnt need to flash your phone back to a stock ROM
there isnt any need to be rude!!! I learned how to root/mod my phones through XDA!!! I am just a fast learner though so it didnt take me as long as it will with others!!!
I hope this helps

damn dude come off that mountain and stop preaching the people you hardly know assuming there way less then you lol
that is called narcism btw
on-topic.. i have a es8000 1018 firmware latest model 2012 and a s3 latest 32gb model with latest 4.04 firmware on them and this allshare cast dont work , it finds no device. allshare control and play versions do work. smartview 3.20 gives subscribtion tv to my s3 phone (really briljant this option). the thing is i found this program called playto samsung tv on my s3 which can play a lot of social media stuff (youtube vimeo metacafe and much more) to the tv from the phone. weird thing is when it actually wants to play a video on the tv which the tv doesnt support u get this quick preview of the android desktop on the tv. this makes me think it works allready, only thing is to find out how
it would need a wifi-direct connection to the tv and the tv should show up as a device on the phonescreen. alas it does not. so the thing is not ready yet allthough this playto samsung tv prog shows me different.

I still think you need to check your definition of rude, the guy seemed to be a total noob, I was just providing some info about how this place works.
back on topic - I have had a similar experience with mine, pretty much given up on it now though as it seems clear this isn't going to work, I doubt it will ever work even though it was promised by Samsung and is still promised as "coming soon" on their website. It wouldn't surprise me if it comes out working on the SGS4 off the bat and they rename it "mirror cast" as this is actually what it is. I did a bit of research on this the other day, I think Samsung have bolted out of the door on this one too early, I don't think it is stable for them which is why they haven't released it. Obviously they aren't going to admit that though.

I have a Belkin Screencast widi device that I use with my laptop. I figured it wouldn't work with the screen mirroring feature on the S4, but I opened it up, and it can see the receiver. So I decided to try to connect. If you hold down on the device in the app on the phone, it lets you enter the pin to connect. It goes through the "Connecting" steps, and on the TV it says "Connected" but the phone keeps spinning, saying "Connecting" before eventually failing.
I know that people have gotten the Netgear Push2TV devices to work with it, but I had one of those, and it didn't work a damn with my laptop. The Belkin device works much better with my laptop (although it's still buggy, I would call Widi an alpha product at best - that is, an alpha level product that's expensive and has been on store shelves for a while, go Intel) but it seems strange that it can walk so far along in the connection and then fail out.
Anyone able to get the mirroring to work with a Widi 2.0 receiver?
I could never get it to work on my Galaxy Note II. However, the firmware recently updated on the belkin device when I connected my laptop to it.
After that I was able to use screen mirroring on my Galaxy S4. However, since then I have not been able to get it to work again.
I have tried everything....even a factory reset on the S4 but still no luck.
i got it to work
i have one of those belkin push2tv widi receivers too for my toshiba. i kept getting bugs like it would disconnect after 30sec after i upgraded to win 8. i was being able to connect my s4 to it though, it was working pretty good, kept kinda disconnecting but it was working. i then updated the firmware a month ago and it started working flawlessly with the laptop but it stopped working with the s4. i see there have been some new updates for firmware things in the s4. maybe now it will work. i will let u know. but it was basically saying it's not compatible ...the s4 with the belkin...when i was trying to connect them. will see if samsung fixed it. there was an update for screen mirroring from what i remember.
So I purchased a Z4 SGP771 to use as both a laptop and phone replacement. Works wonderfully for me; although the KB is a bit small for continuous use, it's fine for my purposes.
However, I got overeager and went through the steps to unlock the bootloader in anticipation of rooting the device (which I haven't yet done) and now I've got some issues I'm hoping the good people here can help with.
1. I'm still running the original stock rom it shipped with: 5.0.2
2. I can't get screen mirroring with miracast to work with my bravia tv - specifically I get an error saying that the TV doesn't support HDCP. On the sony support forums, they specifically mention unlocking the bootloader being an issue here. And yes, the TV in question is Wi-Di capable. The tablet can see it, and the TV even has a built in mirroring input setting - the tablet just fails to make the connection.
3. I was able to get remote play to work with my PS4 briefly - it displayed on my Z4's screen very nicely. Now however, I can't get it to do anything but display a grey screen with on-screen controls (like the tablet is being used as a large and clumsy dual-shock controller). To be honest, I cannot remember if the remote play feature was working after I unlocked or not. RL work became very busy and I was unable to take advantage of the remote play option for several days. When I got back to it, it just wasn't working.
Generally speaking, everything else is still running fine. I believe I can fix #1 on my own, but I'm baffled on #2 and #3 without sending it back to Sony for a true repair/relock.
So anybody got any suggestions?

So a bit of an update is in order. After checking in with Sony directly - just a query on their "if you return it for service you may be charged a significant fee, since you've modified the tablet" quote - and they informed me that "yeah, you can't return it at all, sorry no dice, thanks for playing." I went ahead and at least did a full system backup and reboot.
Surprise, surprise, Remote Play works again. I've got significant lag over my router, but I think that's a function of the router, not anything to do with the tablet. So #3 just up and fixed itself. Yay for that.
Screen mirroring is still fubar however. This ultimately isn't a major issue since it isn't something we were aiming to do very often anyway. We only attempted it during a recent soccer game broadcast that wasn't being carried on any of the stations I subscribe to through my cable provider, but was available streaming. So #2 isn't fixed yet, and that does seem to be a direct result of unlocking. I can live with it, but finding a solution would be preferable.

Yes miracast will fail if you unlock.
At least for test devices it is possible to enable it again afterwards but I don't know about retail ones. In any case I'm pretty sure you can't do it via EMMA so I don't think simple Sony service points can do that.
I'll try to find out.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/help/fix-hdcp-error-miracast-ezcast-screen-t3123560
... helped me with the miracast problem! Addedt the Values in /system/etc/wfdconfig.xml and build.prop, ran terminal command as in post #6 and voila .... screen mirroring is working on my samsung f6500
Hope it helps ....

If I remember correctly it changed something in the TA partition with an internal tool SONY Mobile has.
But that was quite some time ago - a couple of years.
Hi guys if your reading this maybe you can help me. I have an appradio3 that I to be able to cast my screen onto. Now brief background, I used to be on Verizon limited data with a rooted note2 that I direct connected via HDMI. I now have mistakingly switched to att and now i have a new note7 that doesn't have anyway to connect directly to the deck since Samsung has taken it out. Now I've since read about using a Chromecast and casting that way. That's all well and good if and only if you have a Wi-Fi hotspot on your phone which I don't and i dont want to pay for the very limited hotspot plan for my phone to do that. Now I'm not opposed to rooting my note7 which I've looked into that but I've got an sm-n930a. And using the Sprint method doesn't work well for my model. Seen a video were a guy did get his tmoblie phone to root but the process was very lengthy. Or I'm not opposed to rooting if possible the Chromecast. I've got both the newer and the older version of that. I've looking briefly through the Chromecast threads and didn't see if once rooted that you could Wi-Fi direct to the CC. Like once your setting it up it Wi-Fi directs to your phone then switches to normal Wi-Fi. Is this possible??? Or if there's any other device that could get this to work with an appradio3 I'll totally try that.

I'm guessing after the note 7 recall this issue has "solved" its self... I am curious what you did wind up doing. I have the same App radio 3. I used to mirror my S5 to the thing with a samsung hdmi adapter and had full bluetooth touch controlls. Ever since android started setting selinuix to enforced it has become an issue to emulate touch control from the app radio to the phone. Screen mirriroing alone didnt really make me all that happy since I couldnt make it do much without touching the phone. Do you by chance have any advise on this?
What phone did you go to after the Note 7?
Well unfortunately I've gone to an iPhone 7 plus. Which I'm a droid person at heart and it's been a hard switch. Mainly cause I like the ability to mod the droid over iPhone. That said though the iPhone can still hook up to the AppRadio once you've got the appropriate adapters. So right now I can mirror the phone and can watch YouTube videos on the deck. If watching a YouTube it'll allow the phone to go dark or browse for your next video. Still looking into loading videos on the iPhone than watching them on deck but haven't put to much effort into as of yet. The real bummer is that there isn't no support to mod the iPhone to use full touch screen like if you had a droid with the hdmi. I've actually posted on several iPhone forums with just the question and after 2 months have not gotten a response. I still have my note2 and could hook that stuff back up but I have no internet on it so I couldn't watch YouTube from it. And I know this is droid forum but if anybody can help with modding the AppRadio app for iPhone like they did for the droid I'd throw some funds your way, but I can't throw to much since winter time is slow work months for me.
