Battery Temp and Aftermarket Battery - HTC Amaze 4G

Sorry if this is a repost but I'm wodnering what are the average temps for our device and what is the upper most limit in which our devices will function at high temp with min damage. Also any aftermarket batteries that don't overheat because with the anker 1900 battery I would constantly run at upwards of 140 degrees which I know for a fact can't be any good...with stock battery I never run at 130 degrees for more than a few mins. Thanks

Whoa... The highest I've got is about 110-115F and I'd stop doing anything (as in stop playing game ) with my phone and let it cool down...I have used Anker battery previously and I never got that high either.... Might be a problem with your phone unit itself; but, I am not sure...

Battery Heat ???

anyone else noticed this thing heating up during long times of video playback, but especially while in a video call over qik?
i have a desktop widget app that has seen temps of 105f ???

It's probably reading residual heat from the dual core processor. I have heard of people reaching 115 degrees on their phones. The processor can handle it, but excessive heat over prolonged periods might deteriorate the battery quality quicker, that's all

Is it down at the bottom around where the capacitive buttons are in the back?
mine was reading 115F when I was using gps and other apps at the same time. It would not go over 115F and it was in direct light on the dash board. For some reason my phone since that day has been running cooler even when I try to push it and get it to that temp again it wont do it. The incipio feather case helps with holding the phone when it gets that hot lol
Its not the battery that is heating up. It stays cool its the bottom of the phone where I think the cpu and stuff is.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. The dual core is going to get hot sometimes and the battery temp sensor is going to catch some of that heat.

Yeah, that's the processor. It's not the battery getting that hot.
I think I found a use for all the heat lol. I got one of those screen protectors where you have to use fluid to get them to stick. I think the brand is gadget guard. I hope the heat transfers to the screen. I've got a nice 25 min youtube clip playing with screen brightness at 100% and the charger plugged in I think I will run the mp3 player also for good measure see how hot I can get this bad boy.
Don't know if it is relevant but battery heat issue went away from i switched to a custom power plan in battery manager..the night mode was keeping sync alive all the time during day resulting in battery drain and heat.
with youtube going for 40 min straight the screen on full brightness the battery charger plugged in and win amp running its holding steady at 41C.
I decided to try and see how far I can push the multi task. So far wim amp is playing the gps latatuide thing is going youtube is playing and I'm sending and receiving texts at the same time the phone isn't slowing down one bit. I can only get the temp up to 42 right now.
Really guys? 115F is the best you can do?
When my Atrix was plugged into my car dock, running Car Dock, Navigation, and Slacker Radio, SetCPU was reading 62C (144F). 115F is nothin . I've been playing games on my phone and its reached over 55C (131F).
This is my second Atrix so it's not a faulty device. I have a SetCPU profile to underclock over 60C; I had originally set it at 55C but it would underclock too often while playing games and during car dock mode.
IMO, I think Motorola is smart enough to implement some form of heat protection into their phone once the phone reaches a certain temperature. They know it's a dual core phone and I'm sure the engineers expected a lot of heat.
42 degrees for me, really crazy. Do they have warning stickers for this in the US so that they dont get sued?

yea i have around the same temps as you. I have the body glove case on, so do you think that its worsening the overheating or dissipating the heat?
i cant really even have Wifi and battery charging at the same time. the phone gets so hot lol
I notice that when i change my battery heat temps are all over the place , 6 batteries and only 2 off them show a heat range and keep a heat range of 25 to 27 degrees ..just swap out one battery at 25 degrees and put the new one in booted and notice that it is at 37 degrees and holding under no stress . Here the funny thing at 25 the back and screen got very warm to the touch but at 37 the back and screen are cool to the touch
even in standby mode,my atrix's CPU temp is about 42-44 C
and the battery heat is about 35 C
it's kind of crazy because i didn't use any apps though..
my phone is just sit still at my desk
how to get rid of this crazy battery/CPU heat?

battery issues

I charge my phone up to 100 percent and even on standby it goes to like 90 percent in about 3 hours and to about 80 in about 5 hours...is this normal....I don't believe this is a normal standby time for any phone...
also does the phone get extremely hot when using navigation without charging???? I get about 40 minutes of navigation and the battery is at 55 to 60 percent...is this normal for everyone???
I called HTC they said the phone should NEVER GET WARM OR HOT and getting that much battery life for navigation is just crazy!!!!...they said the only time the phone will get a little warm is when charging the phone, but never hot...just slightly warm.
also it is the phone itself that is getting hot not the battery.

Rumor has it that the update to software version 1.36.531.6 addressed overheating issues. Not sure of the effect as I updated my phone out of the box. I've had my phone for 5 days now and have not had any overheating issues at all. I have not used the nav for any extended time yet, but keep in mind that it used the modem, gps and display so your batter will drain a lot quicker.

The other day my phone got hot - very hot - during a 1/2 hour conversation using a VoIp app (Viber). It reached 114.4 Fareinheit degree. At that point I was on Stock 1.36.531.6 (NOT .5 though)
Testing it again using the same VoIP app with the same length conversation on QuikSense 1.5.1. Temperature stayed at +/- 100 F

'Course I known that phone doesn't have a built-in cooling fan
Or maybe I should email HTC and suggested them to built-in an AC unit then ..
Would you kindly post some kind of a proof that 114F is a "normal" temp
Please enlighten me a bit since my phone normally showed temperature between 70's up to under 100's max - and I can proof that with screenshot

I did tried to narrowed down an individual app that may caused the high temp without succeed but the problem did not existed when using Xboarder's QuikSense 1.5.1 in the exact same situation/setting and I'm happy with that.
Just wanna share some experiences with others who may have the same issues though

The phone is a battery whore.
I work in front of a pc all day so it's manageble. With a monster screen and processing power, I expected it to suck.
I did notice a decline in overheating since the last update.

Battery and charging issues
I have an Amaze from Telus. The phone charged up fine and worked well with decent battery life. I am in the U.S. and now when I have fully charged the phone while its off and then turn it on the bootscreen loads but then the phone dies. Could it be the Supplied Charger or the USB Cable is not giving it enough of a charge? When I swapped out the included HTC battery with an Anker battery it powers up and works fine. Does anybody have any ideas? I have read that some of the Micro USB cables were problematic and didn't allow power to flow to the phone. I have also heard that the HTC power adapter also has had some problems as well.

Its not, the MAX temperature of a phone Li-ion battery seams to be 60° C
mine is constantly 25~40 (MAX)
And high levels shorten battery life until next charge
The rate of degradation of Lithium-ion batteries is strongly temperature-dependent; they degrade much faster if stored or used at higher temperatures

Casings too will raise your temp, I had a cheap case I got with Koodo, and it kept all the heat in the phone, I removed it and my battery temps go down. although I keep it on when it's not charging. It's fine then.
My Galaxy Ace is always at 45 degrees......unless it was a miracle and the air-conditioner managed to cool it down
Herpderp iPad2.
No I don't care if you're anti-Apple.
I never saw my cell going to 45'C.!!! One interesting thing i noticied is that the temp is only high between 20-70% battery charging.. After that just 2-4 minutes temp goes to 30'C!! While gaming upto 35'C.. Only charging heats up my gizmo.. Never had this problem with NOKIA 5230..
My battery once had a temperature of 50 degrees
Sometimes, it also depends on how much you're stressing the CPU. If you're doing something heavy like a lot of multi tasking or 3D gaming, it'll heat up the battery and such. Just like using your phone while charging. Happened to me a lot before so I stopped that habit.
I use SetCPU to slow down Max CPU Frequency to 480 Hz when phone temp goes >40 C. That helped.
The SII gets VERY hot (About 65) when using the Onlive app.

I use 480Mhz because more continuous CPU cycles can definitely heat up the phone. This is why any phone heats up quickly when using it and charging it simultaneously. My phone temp has never gone beyond 40C. But I would start worrying and would not use it when its charging, if it'd gone beyond 40C.
And no offense, but those who say like 60C is normal. You guys are definitely hampering your battery life.

[Q] Should i return my phone or not

Hi every one
i have a problem and i would like to see your opinions about it
my phone tent to over heat when using 3G (in air conditioned room 40C - 45 C Outdoor)
ideal ( 35 C )
WiFi ( 37~40 C )
Gaming ( 39 C )
charging ( 40 C ) idel and (45 C) if i was Using it
by the way it's around 35 C here in Egypt now
i'v tried many modems but i still get the same temp
and by the way i can get about 4 ~ 4:30 Hours screen on time from the battery
i can return the phone but ....
the phone is more than perfect ,No screen problem , Very bright No tint of any kind , almost No ink marks , no connection problems , No hanging , no rebooting , no connection problem and very very fast
So what i want to know is
is this a battery problem , or its a hardware one
Cause if its a battery problem , ill be very happy to buy a new battery rather than exchange this prefect unit
and No , I don't have access to another S3 battery now to try
i'v only got 5 day to be able to Exchange it
so what do u think i should do

What? The phone knows the max temp for the CPU and it will shut off if it reaches it. It's a lot higher than 45C.
I think you not need to worry. As stated before the phone will shut off if it reaches the limit temp. I was in Thailand earlier this year with my SGS2 and several times I was not able to charge it due to high temp the phone said. When it was some time in airconditon room I could charge it again

Clearly it does heat up over 39C if yours is.. if everything else on the phone is fine don't exchange it. Would you rather have a phone that is 5C hotter sometimes but perfect everywhere else or 39C with a possibility of dead pixels and such?

Many people may be in cooler climates.. For example the last few weeks its been about 14c here and my phone has not gone over 30c
However today it was 25c hot sun.. And driving in my van using wifi and gps on the phone and it reached 50.9c. And was still working
So.. The hotter it is around the phone, the hotter the phone will get, the temps in your opening post dont look to bad, run time seems ok.. I think if you swap tje phone you will see the same thing.. My One X is the same if not hotter!
Its also a problem of having larger processors.. They generate heat, but dont have fans like pc's

safe to charge constantly at 33 wat?

Hello guys,
So the other day I was messing with thermals and I flashed a thermal that basically removes entire thermal throttling. Because of that, I was able to charge my phone at 33wat constantly for about 20 mins. The charging speed was super awesome, but I'm wondering is it safe to do so constantly? When I was back on stock settings, the charge speed would randomly fluctuate b/w 10-18 watt but with no throttling it just constantly remains on 33watt.
So again is it safe to keep charging my phone on these higher voltages constantly?

Not knowing enough about this, I'd assume it's not safe and that heating of the battery would be the issue and would lead to your battery being cooked over a series of charging cycles, but I see your point temperature was not excessive (34°) - I'd advise using an app to record moment by moment charging temperature
Assuming you didn't have your phone in a pool of cooled mineral oil during charging I'd assume that you've just become a test pilot. Let us know what happens... [consider also the possibility that your house might burn down]

OK thanks for your insights. Yes I did some research on my own. Particularly from battery university (yes that's a thing, a whole website..) and I learned that as long as your battery temp doesn't hit 50c you can do whatever you want because in the end your phone only ever draws enough power that its circuitry was designed for. So that information was enough for me to continue my journey into hotter waters.
So far, during charging from 49% to 80% my poco only took about 17 mins to reach there and right when it reached 80c that I saw it start to throttle a bit so by the time it was 82, the watts came down to 25-28 range. So I guess that's hardware throttling in effect since I have already got the software ones removed? And anyway during these 17 mins, while the ambient temp at my place was 32c, the battery temp soared as far as 43c. I believe I would frequently hit the same temp even when I had all thermal enabled running on stock setup. So we can safely rule out that it didn't happen because of not having thermals but just because the ambaint + charging had their own way.
Lastly, I would continue doing this for few more days checking under air-conditioned room next and see how it goes. For now I'm sticking with 20-80 battery rule because that's supposed to be the safest thing in the world of li-on batteries.
Normally quickcharge will keep stuff safe so it will adjust accordingly.
If temps would get over 40-45 deg. c. over a long time it would take a hit on the 'life' of the cell.
Charging slow and between a range of 10 and 90% will help cell life for sure.

Whats the deal about f2fs I keep seeing this pop every once in a while but never got enough details on it. Since you are using it, can you educate me what it's and does it even make any difference?

It's a file system for android, and yes it does make quite a decent (not like huge) difference when you load up apps (f2fs is usually used in the /data partition) basically apps open faster and it makes the phone feels snappier.

But, how long does it take to reach 49% from 0% or from 20% as you say you follow the 20-80 rule?
Removing thermals is not a good idea, I'm not an expert but I get more fluid experience playing CODM , capping the max speed of all proccesors to 1.7ghz , and keep the phone charging at low voltage. I can play for hours at 60fps and the battery never hits 44c. Removing thermals and processor's cap, I would have a great 15 minutes of game and then it would be very hot and hardware throttle, to the extreme of even get only 20 frames /sec or even less.
All that heat is bad for battery and the components. The battery will go bad faster, inflating in worst cases, and the IPS panel can get permanent ghosting. I know this from previous devices poco included. I do gaming for hours. Removing thermals + gaming at high brightness is bad.

Um, you don't just remove thermal limitations and charge like yesterday.
That is useless and in some cases counter-intuitive.
You highly decrease the temperature to 14 degree Celsius to 26/28 Degree Celsius and charge in that.
However as you say, if you're doing high intense activities that use a lot of hardware, which generally heats the phone, then having a heated phone for extended periods of time *might* be bad for the battery, well having any electronic device heated is bad for the internal circuitry. I have a personal experience with this.
That said, as long as you're using your phone for mild to medium intensity activities like watching multi-media applications and surfing, calling, etc removing thermals will have no significant issues and not reduce the battery life because your phone is mostly never going above 35/36 degree Celsius.
Or if you can, remove thermals whenever you're charging and put them back on whenever you're not.

Hello guys,
So the other day I was messing with thermals and I flashed a thermal that basically removes entire thermal throttling.
