How can I edit contacts in batch? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I must edit all my contacts to remove area code. My new mobile carrier doesn't support it. I've tryed export it from google to csv -dos, csv outlook. Then I edited with Excel and removed the numbers, but when I try to import it, everything went wrong, without any configuration/
Does someone know any app that to this job? Or someone know how must I proceed? Thank you !

hey
why don't you define in excel maximum digits as the length of your numbers?
for example if you have this number stored:
Eytan
10123456789 (1 is the area code)
execute in excel so it saves the last 10 digits so it'll apear like this:
Eytan
0123456789
you should limit the numbers of characters in a cell.
i actually don't remember the exact steps but i'm sure you could find it with search, it should shorten your "work".
good luck !

You should be able to export from Google as CSV edit in Excel then reload as CSV

actually I tried all those things, and when I try to export it again to google, I lost the previous settings.
I found a brasilian app "operadora DDD" and it does the job! It´s in portuguese, but u can acess the app, then UNCHECK "ativar", and press menu on your phone. U must chose "alterar agenda", click on the number and try every option. when u check some box, the number change showing your choice (with/out " ( ) ", "-", "+" etc)

I used to use Contacts Clean-up by Peter Baldwin, but that is not compatible with newer versions of Android. If you have access to an older phone, you could use that to edit them and then resync to the new phone. That's probably what I'm going to do tomorrow...

hmm, this is interesting and yet frustrating. I'm also in need to edit my contacts in batch, especially to change the area code and include a country code, but it seems that the .csv that I've edited cannot be read by google contacts.
anybody can get around with this?

App first name first in contacts Windows Mobile

By default WM shows your contacts last name first. You can set a contact to show first name first by editing the 'File as' field of that contact. (Click on 'more' in the edit contact page if you can't find this option).
In effect, the 'file as' field doesn't change the order of last/first name but allows you to file the contact under any (nick)name you like. But if you fill in the first and then the last name of your contacts, it has the same effect as changing the order of names would.
A program called Contact Changer automatically updates the 'file as' field of all of your existing contacts, as you can read in this thread.
You could probably schedule the program to run periodically, using scheduling software like G-alarm.
Google Sync interferes with name order
Google Sync changes the 'file as' field back to last name, first name. See this thread.
First name first in contacts Windows Mobile
Thanks for the GREAT program!!!
This is awesome. Getting ready to try it. I was getting tired of manually going in and making the changes each time I flashed a new rom. Will post results back in a bit.
Exactly what I needed, simple program, works perfectly!
Great little app
This is what I was looking for. I know Win 6.5 is old but I ordered new HTC HD2, got it 3 days ago and still it has Win 6.5. So this little app saved lots of my time
Thanks Buzink, that's a great little app!!

Link to outlook contact - possible?

I'd like to create a link to an Outlook contact for iPhonetoday or similar.
I have spent a good 30 mins searching and found nothing that will open a contact from a shortcut.
Any ideas on if such a thing exists or if not how I should start making a solution?
I do not want to dial a contact directly, or send an sms. I just want the contact record to open so I can choose what to do with it.
Thanks.
Hi littld
I did some search time ago for a contact to be dialed with a shortcut and created it with one of Vijay's tools, I understand that's not what you want. I think it's possible with some experimenting, I'll look for it
Found something:
Create a shortcut (to any thing), Then locate it with Total commander, long press>properties>shortcut tab and erase all from "Target". Write instead: "cprog.exe" -to "name of contact" and save. You just have to rename the shortcut to the person name and place it where you want it. The shortcut will open the dialer with the name ( providing you copied the "name of contact" as is in the contact list. Touching the name will open all possibilities.
I hope this will help

Feature request: integrate Sense Facebook sync method in AOSP Roms

Hi all,
first, I am not a developer so I can't do it for myself but I know that here it's the best place to ask this.
As a lot of us I linked all my contacts to FB profiles with the old 1.5 stock rom. Sense wrote a note on the contact with a tag that, even when changing phone or rom, relink the prifile to the contact.
For example like this:
<sn>id:1538330411/friendof:1296683600</sn>
Click to collapse
It's not possible to do a script or integrate in the roms something thant do this not only for sense?
Thanks!
+1 for this
Requested this on a danish forum, but no replies!
+1 pretty please
Well.. as this is a Sense-feature, i do not think that AOSP works the same way...
BUT: On cyanogen roms (don't know if it's the same for AOSP), you can do the linking as well.. but a bit more complicated..
First: you will have to do this with every contact.
Be sure to have a facebook-/twitter-version that makes you able to sync to contacts.
Then go to contacts, find a contact you want to link press it (hold it down) and press Edit contact.
When the new window opens press menu -> Join (it's like this image: http://powerforum.dk/files//e16_1_3_567.jpg - just without the long part at the bottom, In Danish it's called "Føj til")
Then search for your facebook/twitter-contact, if it isn't listed already, press it, and press Done to save
Im using froydvillian and so long as you have a version of facebook as said above you do have a join option in the edit contact screen. Most of the time this is synced automatically if the phonebook names match the facebook names. There's the odd few where you have to correct them.
Also if you want to use the latest synced profile picture from facebook, make sure you delete the contact icon (if there is a picture within the edit contact screen) as this is synced from google contacts and over rides the picture from facebook.
I know that i can link them in froyd too but, as I have done it before with sense, I don't want to do this. The index on the contact is already there so i think that an automatic way is easily makeable...

Yes it is "makeable" - and it has already been made! That's the point! Why create it again? The facebook app allows you to sync on ASOP rom's - why create another app which allows you to do the same thing?

How to control syncing with google accout?

Anyone know how to control when syncing contact in our phone with google account? I mean can choose which data in google or in our phone is priority.
Ex: If I edit contact in both my phone and google (use computer) but only one is edited correct so how can choose which data will be replace by the other?
Add a letter to the name of an individual edit and give it a little time if you see a same name with an extra letter in your emai or on the phone then try it the other way around. (Ex. make a copy of one contact with a phone number in your email and add a number or a few letters off from the original name then wait and see what updates! Then do the same thing from your phone make a copy contact with a slightly different name and see if it is in your gmail! I don't believe you can modify WHAT gets synced persay but you can completely turn sync off until you are ready to back your items up which in turn also saves on battery life as well.

[Q] Import *.csv - telephone number format

Hi there,
is there a way/app to import contacts into my S3 (CM9) out of an *.csv file, without loosing the telephone number format?
While importing, android currently changes the format of my telephone numbers like:
+49-xxxx-yyyyy --to--> +49 xxxx/yyyyy
or for several numbers:
+49-xxxx-yyyyy --to--> +49xxxxyyyyy
I don't want that!
Thanks for your answers.
P.S.:
1. I know google and I've searched there already.
2. Please DO NOT talk about "Google Contacts"-sh**. I'm trying to avoid google contacts by importing a .csv file directly. I think google does not need to know my relationships and connections. I love my data to be private.
seems odd it does it in two different formats. I thought they have a default format and all numbers are stored the same way even if you put spaces and all sorts
I think this happens when it doesn't know the area code.
+49-37208-yyyyyyy --to--> +4937208yyyyyyy
And it shows up another behavior for the "area code" of cellphones in Germany like 171, 170, 160 a.s.o. In this case it also make something like this:
+49-171-yyyyyyy --to--> +49 171 yyyyyyy
The question is how to switch this completely of. I don't want my telephone numbers to be reformatted.
