Most frightening case ( android vs apple ) - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

I don't know whether this post is valid in this thread or not but i just want to share with you guys. After read some of the news about this patent war between Apple and Samsung this is totally a huge defeat for Android user. This makes me think is Google and other manufacturer that using android as their platform will make a big change??
I love android smartphone so much. People love to show their creativity and that is why we chose ANDROID. :crying:
** if this thread is not suitable for this section or everywhere i am totally sorry.:angel:

DEVICE >> XPERIA S

KERNEL >> PURE ICS KERNEL

The litigation involves mostly hardware patent infringements. It is not a IOS/Android battle.

Patents everywhere
Sinca I woke up 3 hours ago, I already violated 13 patents of apple, haha, the new slogan instead of "We have an app for that" should be, "we have a patent for that" haha
No, seriously, this wont affect android users (most of us) because samsung was (according to apple) using therir desings, not the patents of software and hadrware, in this case, apple has more to loose, because samsung develop the retina display, and the judge said that apple should be more open to release their patents to the other companies, and give them the privilege to use them at low cost, so the end consumer wont be affected.:highfive:

I think there will be change to those parts/technologies which samsung provides for iphone like camera n chip...
Samsung makes 26% of the iPhone 4's components, says infographic

Samsung was treated very unfair by those corrupted judges, justice and power does have a price in Apple Mac country.
Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Why you are afraid? It is free advertising for Samsung and nothing will change. Apple will be declining.

"I realized that's a big deal if Samsung can't sell those phones," Ilagan said. "But I'm sure Samsung can recover and do their own designs. There are other ways to design a phone. What was happening was that the appearance [of Samsung's phone] was their downfall. You copied the appearance.... Nokia is still selling phones. BlackBerry is selling phones. Those phones aren't infringing. There are alternatives out there."

Yeah samsing is a copy cat...but!!! Standard android doesnt have apple patents.
So stay calm because android will not change
..only samsung touch wiz

To be honest I do not find the iphone and samsung to be that much similar at all. I don't know what the judges might have been seeing

Samsung tab was like ipad...samsung galaxy ace was identicly.with iphone 4
..
Samsung has/had alot of phones that softare and how they look
Was like products.from apple

Geeks like us knows how to differentiate between Samsung's and iPhone but many people out there can't. Samsung should know better to see this coming, since Apple being Apple. Sony can design creatively but why can't Samsung?

Sorry but the galaxy s and galaxy s2 were iPhone rip offs. Even touchwiz is an imitation of ios.
I for one I'm glad of the verdict. Any company who would so shamelessly copy the designs and presentations of another should be punished. For me the $1 billion isn't even enough.
I'm no fanboy and I would love nothing more than to see the downfall of Apple but Samsung's shamelessness deserved to be punished. The irony of it is that what they have been punished for doing is the very thing their users hated most about the galaxy line.
Who knows without all the iPhone imitation nonsense, I might even be a galaxy s user now and I know they're many others who feel the same way.
Hopefully Samsung will come from their own heart with the gs4 and produce something I could actually want to own and finally.... Yes finally leave Sony to it once and for all.

I read somewhere that apple even ask samsung to pay ip licenses for their wp7 device.
So even if android does infringe apple patern, there's no where else for OEM to run too.

If you look at design of all smartphones than you can see that they are very similar....and about iphone iv heard that almost all chips for it are made by samsung......
BTW iv found on youtube couple of videos from some geek who is saying why android is better than iphone and in almost all aspect is way better, and after watching this videos iv realized that iphone is really crap ....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMiY1kSTHZw This is a part 1/5 look all parts its really interesting

The real scare here is that people still go to pretend internet war against whole corporations in the name of "Loyalty FTW" or some similar, equally embarrassing variant.

I was a Iphone USER and belive me Apple MAC software is 10 levels over android, it never gives u an error it work smooth 100% of all the time and PLUS the waranty is superb, for example I had a little problem with my Iphone (at the button) and they gived me another one, and at my SONY sadly i have the yellow spot problem and they told me that they can't repair it and I have to pay 250 euro. :\
So those videos are just made by fans that want to show that Android is above Apple. but it isn't like this. Same with the flash all of users said that android has flash and that' s why is better ...GUESS What in Jelly Bean there is no FLASH ! After all Apple was right with flash. There are many reasons.. but samsung made identical products...even GOOGLE told Samsung to make other designs, and even the Samsung Design Chief said that is sad that samsung products looks like Apple products, but that what to lead board wants. They even copy the showroom

what is the point anyway of comparing a new generation phone with an old generation one? the comparer himself suspects the new gen is not that advanced and is trying to assure himself this new gen is worth the hype?

Exactly! People who compares these two phones - Android fans or Samy fans and show to all Apple fans how the GS2 blows away Iphone 4 even don't realize that comparison like this is a really big compliment for Iphone 4. Every an year old phone would be proud to be compared to the most powerful phone released a few days ago.
To be fair, I've just moved from an IP4 to a GS2, and the iPhone was an excellent device.
Just too many limitations on it.
Granted, android "just works", but iOS, for most people is pretty good. iTunes is a bag of ****, and I fully hate it, but the iPhone is more than just a fanboy toy.
Not getting rid of my GS2 anytime soon though, love it!!

What is it with this ridiculous "fanboism"?
What is the point in comparing this year phone with last year phone?
What is the point to complain on iPhone, that it doesn't have this or that...
I will never understand it...
Ugh, I really hate these fanboy apple vs android wars. Like style34 said, this comparison is a big compliment for the iPhone 4 (and I think it deserves it).
I'm looking forward to the iPhone 5 and I'm really wondering how the SGS2 would hold up against that one.
I've never had an iPhone myself as I've always preferred an Android device. However, I've never denied that Apple makes good products.
Same here though. I hate flame wars, no reason to convince fanboys. That's why I rarely go to Engadget anymore.
Granted, some pics I find pretty funny either way.

Yes, comparing the SG2 to the iPhone 4 in every thread is the worst possible comparison.
The phones a year old, it should be compared to the iPhone 5.
Although I am still certain the SG2 will be a much better phone anyway, its meant to be SGS2 v iPhone 5.

When SGS2 gets ICS, will it beat Galaxy Nexus?

When SGS2 gets ICS, will it beat Galaxy Nexus?

apart from that, no idea what you are getting at
Yes. Lower res screen, better video and better cpu. Simple as that. I would like a HD screen tho'..
S2 has a better screen, faster processor and SD card expansion slot. It will be better with ICS IMO.
Ofcoz it will!!!
Its GPU is already better, and it has to render less pixels, so it will surely beat it.
depends what you mean by "beat it"
does it really matter though? will you stop enjoying your phone if it is no longer seen as top dog?

Yup, if you're the type of person that gets their enjoyment out of being a show off.
Normal people supposedly bought the SGS2 because it fit their needs, how would the Galaxy Nexus make the Galaxy S2 less worthwhile of you? Unless of course, your goal is to have the latest and greatest, in which you should just wait and see which will be better and if the Nexus is better, pay some money and switch.
And I have to laugh at all the SGS2 owners in here defiantly saying the Galaxy Nexus has a poorer screen... sure the Nexus has a PenTile arrangement which on the face of it is a disappointment, but I'd personally wait until I see a Galaxy Nexus in person before passing judgement.
I did and it does not have gradient issue of sgs2 (actually all super amoled plus models, including infuse, i tried not just ours). Nuf said!
That does not mean I'm switching, in fact, no hell!
But screen on sgn is much better, you gotta give them that. Well you don't have to but it's the truth.

Can't agree more, sometimes we tend to rush to judge things too quickly.
And on topic, I do think the SGS2 will be awesome with ICS. Awesome enough to make 90% of SGS2 owners not feel like they need to switch. Think they'll generally still be on the same tier.

No matter which way you put it, the cpu slaps the nexus cpu around and it shows. Played with one today. Also, the screen is better on sgs2. Not hating, just disappointed
It already beats the nexus in terms of hardware and just about everything else... the nexus just has 4G of which isn't even useful to 99% of the world (no ssrsly). Oh and ICS... which isn't that big of a deal at all.

P.S. http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3621&idPhone2=4219
The SGS2 beats the Nexus in almost everything... :/
Nexus:
No MicroSD
Only 5MP Camera
Only 1.3MP Secondary Camera
No Radio (this is a big letdown to some)
Half as much 'quoted' talk time when compared to the SGS2.
No Gorilla Glass????
Overpriced (given the above)
SGS2:
No 4G
No ICS (Yet)
Hardly an 'Upgrade' from the SGS2.. ICS isn't that much better than Gingerbread. On top of that who really needs 4G?
But hey, don't take it from me, I don't know crap all about the Nexus. Though I do know my own SGS2 inside out.
I agree with 'soraxd' the SGS3 is going to tear the newest iPhone (lol what a joke) to shreds and absolutely squash any hopes of any manufacturer getting even close.
Believe it lol!

iPhone has far better build quality then any android phone. If you want your phone to actually get timely updates then you have to get a Nexus S or Galaxy Nexus, which really restricts your "choice" to 2 phones. Meanwhile a 3yr old iPhone 3GS gets iOS 5 day 1 and still runs smoother than most android phones with 5x better hardware.

My SGS2 get updates continously, no problem there.
Of course new major releases like ICS takes 3-4 months from google/nexus release to release for other phones but that is simply part of the business model. And it is in fact mainly positive, because it gives plenty of time for developers to adapt apps for the new major version before average Joe gets the update.
Why would it be better if Google delayed Nexus ICS just to give Samsung/HTC etc time to adapt it to their phones?
Nexus and sgs2 have a good history of successful updates of Android series...

Hmmm, honestly I don't know what to expect.
What are they anyway, I should have said "what will they be anyway"
For my own expectation? Oh, sure, very high
Quad-core 2.0GHz processor? 4GB RAM? 32G space? 5G ready? 1080 native resolution? unsigned bootloader? ability of flashing any custom ROM?
Is it too much to expect?

[Q] Will Note's success mean a new Streak?

Will Dell respond with a newer, better, Streak, now that they see there is a market for these hybrid phone/tablets? Should I just jump on the Note when it finally becomes available or wait to see what Dell will do? I'm due for an upgrade in March so I guess I'll wait until then...
Yeah you can wait till March but there is very less possibility that Dell may come out with something comparable to Note in near future.

It would be sad to see Dell following Samsung...
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
I'd very much like to see dell release another phoneblet with top of the line specs, sadly I'm highly skeptical about it.
Given how Android didn't sell itself according to the lack of marketing Dell provided, I wouldn't expect to see another Streak unless it ran Windows Phone 7. The irony here is that Windows Phone 7 has the smallest market share of any mobile OS.
Who knows what dell is going to do, the only 'new' device is the Streak pro and it's still not really available in china yet and not out in japan.
The S5 launched outside europe half a year later, it's not impossible they'll launch the SPro elsewhere eventually, besides that they canceled more WP7 phones then they did android phones. But it's a mid-upper end 4.3" and not a 5.x" device.
Currently there's no known devices on their roadmap, besides the weak promise of new tabs or something during CES. A new roadmap for 2012 hasnt leaked/been made available yet, everything on the 2011 one is either out or canceled.
2011 road map to date:
2 canceled WP7 devices
1 canceled android phone,
2 canceled android tabs (the 'opus one' is in the tab category)
1 Pending update to the s10 (ICS and 'handwriting support'(?) )
It wont really matter how good a device dell puts out, if they dont change their advertising strat. The software on their devices have improved dramatically post-S5, but it means jack if they half-ass their launches.
If they have any plans at all, they're doing a pretty good job keeping us in the dark.
If DELL is serious making an impact in the market, they should ask Samsung or HTC to make a phone for them. At least, we would have a quality device and not a crap one like the Streak.

I'll be totally honest with you, I prefer the quality and finish on my streak far more than most of the samsung line they feel too plasticy and flimsy IMHO, plus back when s5 was announced it was pretty much top of the line sans for 1.6. I think dell should just get it together with making the drivers open source thus sparking more interest and a bigger development community for the device, and of course spend way more on marketing than with the s5.
It's not at all about who makes it, it's about the fact noone knows they exist.
I cant speak of every other market, but in the US only the s5 had any advertising. Of which it was 1 month or so of commercials. The S7 and V didnt get any at all, not surprisingly the S5 outsold the S7, V, VPro combined (no data to back this up, just by pure post count on xda)
The fact the Note doesnt even need this has a lot to do with it's specs, it's about the most powerful device it's size currently, the S5 was nearly the last major S1 snapdragon released. Samsung's been doing pretty well with the galaxy family, it's momentum is the equivilent of a year or so of good advertising if it were the S5.
The S5 wasnt supported by any carrier in the US, only sold quietly by best buy. The GN is going to be available with at&t and verizon(?), though internally those varients are pretty much entirely different devices.
If it wasnt for the software, I really could see myself using the S5 till early 2013 (which is like 800 years in phone years) That's the biggest difference between samsung and dell, samsung is a lot more dev friendly.
EVEN if dell launched the 'opus one' yesterday it wouldnt compete with the note, they're in seperate price brackets. It would be like comparing the kindle fire with the S7, even though the S7 is older it's still faster. If you went by MSRP you could buy 2 S7's or 3 KFs for the same amount of money. Just like not all 4.0"/etc phones are equal.
The Streak is a fine device, and has kept me happy probably longer than any other phone. Will probably look into the Note when released on AT&T, but just for the hardware and later software upgrade. The streak still does everything I actually need.
It's the first phone that I could actually keep through a 2 year contact, if I wasn't such a nerd...

INSURE THAT!
I concur with the positive views of the S5 voiced here. My S5 got water damaged over the weekend and is irretrievably bricked. Of the 20 or so mobile devices I have owned over the last decade this was the one I have had the longest and would have quite happily continued with it ad infinitum.
My dissapointment is compounded as the search for another 5 inch device only reveals The Note.
Dell seem to be steering away from the 'phablet' arena, not surprisingly given it's specialist nature and lack of worldwide sales. As this thread began, one can only hope that significant sales of the Note don't go unnoticed by Dell.
With the Note as yet largely unavalable with UK carriers, I am as deviceless, miserable and lost as I have been at any time in the last decade.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
My new Streak 5 just arrived. I had to part with £170 for it (cheaper in the long run than an insurance claim on my water damaged one) but it's pristine. I never want to be without one again.
Well, I will miss my Streak when the ebay auction ends, but I must say I'm enjoying my Note's 4g speed for internet browsing. It also seems a bit faster when switching between apps and such. I did like the fact that the Streak had a metal chassis, and that gave it a more solid feel than the Note has, but the Note's lightness is also nice. I won't miss the Streak's connection port, and find the micro-usb port on the Note far more convenient to use.

I don't think the streak ever had a metal chasis, only the battery cover is metal.
The chassis might be aniondized plastic or something, the inner surface is plastic I believe but the outer side is much more durable then simple plastic. Regardless, that fact is why I like the S5 as it is and feels rather scratch resistant.

You could be right, but it always felt so solid I assumed it was metal

my view on phones's today

i think the advantaged of buying android on apple is getting smaller
there no point of buying phone with no battery door
or no sdcard
or low mah battery
my next phone will be iphone
its should be perfect phone specs with android
or nothing
had enuf with lags of android
What is the point of this? Terrible grammar, and completely pointless....good riddance.

Personal experience speaking here, you have to jailbreak an iPhone to even have a shot at making it as customizable as a stock Android phone, and it's getting harder and harder to jailbreak every generation. And having used both, I'd rather run a stock Android device over a jailbroken iOS device.

the reason why you are lagging, if your sig is correct, you're still running a Ginger Bread rom with an outdated recovery.
If you are still on GB then i would assume you dont have the latest firmware and that i would recommend you updating to the latest ruu before jumping ship.
no the sig not correct
im not talking about my phone
my phone is gr8 just the battery life
im talking about android generally
Cause we all know that iOS has no lag!:good:

I know you were being sarcastic, but that is a common belief. In reality, iOS does a great job on the Springboard, but for the most part, it uses a lot of visual trickery to hide the lag in other places. In particular, apps don't launch nearly as quickly as people think they do, but you don't get that impression because the OS saves a screenshot of the last state of the app when it closes, and uses that as a load screen so you think it's already loaded. 9 times out of 10, by the time you try to interact with it, it has finished loading. That one time when you beat the app and it does nothing, you write it off as a glitch and move on. I will give them props for being very clever with manipulating psychology to make things feel so smooth, because that's where most of the perception of smoothness comes from.

My view on technology as a whole is I hate it! I can't stand that I don't know how to operate it and because if that I want something that doesn't want me thinking outside the box. I like my box. I just wanted to come to xda and start a thread about that.
On a side note, I have owned an I phone 4s and while it wasn't for me I did notice lag and didn't condemn the Os or manufacturer. Learn to operate your equipment or please just go get what suits you. Don't rant about how bad something is if you have 0 clue how to go about changing it in a developer website.
Lmao i should go home and yell at my light because it didn't auto dim to my eyes perception of brightness.
u clearly didnt got my point
android is based on java which is slow camper to iOS
android have its advantages on iOS
that we all know
but the today phones with specs i said at OP
doesn't make clearly big advantages on iOS
so for that i think i should change to iOS
cos the better touch and more...
im happy with my rezound really snappy with shrike1978's cm9
but android falling here IMO cos there no much diff.. as i said
i just saying my 2cent opinion

Go buy an iPhone and you can do your happy dance afterwards.
I dunno I have played with some pretty nice tip of the line android phones and the Iphone5. Can say if you are quoting any Os before jellybean and any processor before the s4 then maybe you should check out some new Technology, but if your gripe is java based I don't think anyone here can help u there.
Here's a shot, I think a smartphone should have a t9 dialer. I hated that about my old I phone 4. Then I had to buy an app if I wanted to use it for more than 5calls to keep the t9. I loved the camera and the battery was good on my 4s. Ios6 looked identical to ios5. Not very refreshing. Their software is well optimized to their hardware.
I can agree with you in some respects such as I have owned all the nexus lines except the 4. IMHO the nexus should be the fastest and best of all phones. It shouldn't have half ass battery life or a half ass camera and an open Os. Its touted as flagship yet trails in every category other than being but naked aosp.

I think Google is going more for affordable and compatible with Nexus than they are top of the line. So far, they've been letting the OEM's handle the top of the line market. For them, it's a win-win. They make reference phones and tablets that show Android at its best, and they keep in good graces with the OEM's by not outshining their latest handsets. It's a valid strategy, but with the new Nexus program in place, it's one that I think they need to branch out from. They're giving the OEM's credit in the name now (Samsung Galaxy Nexus, LG Nexus 4, Samsung Nexus 10, etc), so they can afford to make some high end hardware now without marginalizing the OEM's they depend on. I have disposable income, and I might be willing to pay $650 for a phone if it was true AOSP and had the specs to back up the price, but I don't have much interest in the current Nexus phone lineup, even for the price.

No please understand I am not arguing with anyone's point. Its just always been my opinion that the nexus should truly be flagship... With a t9 dialer. Excellent battery life. Camera at least on par with the sensor in the Iphone5 or one series or galaxy s line. Even if you had to rely on 3rd party editing apps. Back when HTC made the first nexus it was a solid well made very good phone and really led the pack. Now all nexus since have some for of tradeoff. Technology is booming but one thing apple has done is keep it to themselves. Apple doesn't want verizon, verizon wants apple. Not the same for android. Too many variables. I'm still holding on to the hopes of a moto nexus with a really great camera but that doesn't seem like it's gonna happen. At least moto will put a big ass battery in something, even if they won't use the greatest camera lol.
I like aosp, but just wish there was one aosp device that came in and really put it down in all the right areas. Battery life shouldn't be an issue or excuse anymore, nexus4 doesn't hardly last longer than the old one yet another manufacturer with same processor can get double the battery life. I think I'm just ranting and probably should stop lol
Google does android, they should be setting the bar that others follow but instead the bar gets set by others and they try to catch up every year since the nexus one... Again it's my opinion
