Can't get root to work - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I have tried all root methods. I just bought a new i777 and the previous owner had the folks at the AT&T store wipe it and when they did that they updated it . So it is up to date as of Today. But I cannot get it to show up in ODIN. I have tried normal Odin and Odin one click. I have tried 3 computer and 2 different connection cords. Any help ?

You must have the USB drivers installed. In Add/Remove programs or Uninstall or change a program, depending on Windows version, you should see Samsung USB Drivers for Mobile Phones. If that is not present, install the correct driver first.
Next, not knowing your level of experience.... make sure you are using Odin correctly.
How to use stand-alone Odin3 to flash firmware:
Follow and recheck each of the following steps. Do them in order listed, as some steps are dependent on previous steps. Instructions are for Odin3 v1.85. It should work with any version of Odin, but some details, like color of items, may be different.
1.) Open Odin on the Windows Desktop.
2.) Have the USB cable plugged into USB port on the computer, but *Not* plugged in to the phone.
3.) Shut the phone off.
4.) While holding down the vol+ & vol- keys, plug micro-usb plug into phone.
5.) In Odin, you should get the yellow box under where it says ID:COM with the text 0:[COMx], and in the Message area, <ID:0/00x> Added!! where x is some number, usually 1-8.
6.) In Odin, make sure Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked and all other items are not checked.
7.) Click on the PDA button. Browse to the tar file you want to install and select it so its path appears in the text edit box next to the button.
8.) Make sure the check box next to the PDA button is checked.
9.) Click the Start button.
10.) You should see the green progress bar advancing.

You don't say, but I am going to assume you double checked the list I posted to make sure you are following the correct proceedure. The steps must be followed in order as some steps are dependent on the preceeding one. If you havn't done that, please do.
Possible things that could be at fault: USB driver, cable, USB port on computer, microusb port on phone, the computer itself, and user error. You've tried some of these things already: Uninstall and reinstall driver, use a different computer, try all the USB ports on the computer, if computer is a desktop use USB port directly connected to mother board, use a different cable preferably the original one that came with the phone - try as many as you can get your hands on, verify that your phone's microusb port is working correctly. By a process of elimination, you have to find the weak link and correct it.

I followed your list in the exact order you posted it . I'm going to buy a new cable in case that's the problem . I'll post if I get it fixed

First, enter recovery and do a wipe data/factory reset. I'm not sure which recovery you will have from the GalaxyS2Root that you flashed, but it may be 3e recovery. Whatever recovery it is, the wipe should get your phone to boot. Then follow the Guide linked in my signature to install custom binaries without incrementing the flash counter. It contains all the information you need. If you have questions, ask.

Do what creepy said in the above post. CWM is included in our custom kernels so no need to flash it seperately.

Usually cwm will install with the kernel when you root it, what kernel are you going to use?

The leak from Bobby (designgears) is in an .exe package. It is called a 'one-click ODIN' meaning ODIN and all the other files required are packaged inside.
Simply put your Note into download mode (power off, then hold 'volume down' and 'power' until a warning screen appears, then press 'volume up' to continue), connect via USB and let your computer install the relevant drivers, then run the .exe file and click 'start' once a yellow 'COMx (mine was COM5)' appears.
That's it. ODIN will take care of everything else for you
Enjoy! The ICS ROM works very well, but you will notice a lot of force-closes and stutter if you try and import a backup of your old apps. Better to start over 'fresh' with a major revision jump

DAGr8's version does. The version I pointed you to (official) does not
There are additional steps required to root this one. I haven't tried DAGr8's version, perhaps getting that would be easier for you.

I'm hearing of several ics files, some with root, some without...and different places that people are getting it thru. The last posts i read mentioned of people using phones browser and clicking the ics picture and downloading to the phone, ive tried that but the file just keeps downloading...seems to get to 60% or so, ill check progress and than its back at 5% going up, here's a picture

galaxy Note, made to Showboat(;
Download mode is underneath the os and its ONLY purpose is to flash things with Odin, or heimdall (dunno if that's available for note yet), root is only needed to get su permission once booted into Android
I was finally able to flash cwm and made a back up in cwm (the back up took like 15 minute...i hope i did it right) i than downloaded ics on my phone via the ics picture on the dev section (should i use this or Odin) so now i guess I'm ready to flash. An i missing anything and will i lose root?

if your downloading ics via the picture in the dev section you will not lose root because that is a pre rooted ics rom by DAGr8

[Q] How to remove PERMANENT Yellow Triangle

Greetings,
I was trying to root my phone but something went wrong.
Odin said the root was sucessful, but when I switch my phone on, it just shows the yellow triangle and it just freezes.
I can wait, 5, 10...15 minutes it just keep showing that screen and it won't let me do anything. Can't see kernel version, can't install anything..
If I do home button + vol up + switch, it will show me the same screen again.
If I do home button + vol down + switch, it will ask to reboot or install. If I do install and connect it to my computer, my computer won't recognize it. Odin won't too.
And if I switch it on now it get's heated fast.
What do you suggest I do?
Thanks,
Edit: sorry forgot to say. Use USB jig to get into download mode.
Download one of chainfires cfroot kernels or siyah kernel and flash via Odin.

the usb jig still works fine on ICS.
there was a break in the gingerbread roms, when they came out with a new bootloader that would not allow resetting of the binary counter and removing the yellow triangle through the usb jig, but if you flash the old bootloader from intratech's thread, there is no problem. works for ICS as well.
also, i don't understand how people are so eager to use triangleaway. chainfire wrote in his own thread, that it is an emergency tool, if you have to send your phone in and don't have a jig handy, but in general, the jig is preferable, because it is safe, in contrast to an app.

Yes, but you have the option of downloading a CWM flashable zip package as well; the dev for Siyah offers both packages. A .tar for Odin, and a .zip for CWM recovery.

Well, can you still get to recovery mode? If so, you can download the CWM .zip file for Siyah, put it on your SD card, and flash it that way...
But before you do that; to get your computer to recognize the phone being plugged in, have you tried:
- making sure Kies is not running at the same time Odin is?
- different USB cable?
- different USB port? (should be directly to PC port, not a hub, or keyboard, or other pass-through)
- different computer?
It is extremely irregular for a kernel flash to break the USB port functionality.

FYI: I rooted my note AT&T when it had GB(stock) and when Samsung squeezed out the official ICS I updated through Kies which in turn unrooted the Note.
I read this thread -->here<-- hoping for a similar method to root the official ICS 4.0.4 WITHOUT tripping the counter. So far (if I didn't miss any info) only found modded ROMs and flashing methods. I don't want to flash I simply would like to repeat the same rooting process as that of GB.
Any suggestions?

I'm interested in the same thing, given there are directions and an Odin Tar for System flash (which doesn't trip counter) for Stock Gingerbread which has root installed. Is this something the devs could look into? I know that there are a few that are working with stock and modding after stock is rooted, it would be great to have that system.tar for flashing and using ADB to install CWM and then still keep the flash counter from being tripped.
I know there is a CWM for resetting the flash counter, but that's not something I want to mess with. Have heard rumor that they can still see that you flashed something that isn't stock and that's even if you have reset the counter. Not sure on confirmation but that's what I heard. Just want to stay clean like I have already.
Thank you all for any help with this issue!!

USB Debugging is on, it is in usb mass storage mode. it is completely stock-ish, I restored her to 2.1 earlier upon her request and it boots to say I9100 first then reverts to the way it is supposed to. Computer won't connect to it, odin wont recognize it even when it is in download mode. It isnt the cable because I have tried two samsung oem cables now which both work for everything with my gs3 and the same cables seconds later dont work for her...Although it does charge through the connection. ADB won't recognize it either. Any help would be appreciated.
I also have multiple USB cables and all work on my friends vibrant but the only one that works for me is the T-Mobile USB from their store. I have no clue why this is but it's true. I would download drivers for vibrant , if that doesn't work it's probably the cable. Try a cable from official T-Mobile store, they have a 30 day return policy. There is no need to use Odin if you're trying to upgrade though, all you need is clock work recovery and a custom ROM to flash via recovery mode.

Hey everybody-
So my sister's phone has been acting strange on her lately and she also wanted the new play store (she is still stuck with market on stock 2.1) so I figured I would figure out a new operating system for her. But I soon ran into this annoying error. *install kies mini from samsungs website or you can find here (http://www.ziddu.com/downloadlink/18781764/Kies_Mini_For_Vibrant_11011_4.exe)
restart the pc after install...it will install the necessary drivers....
*select USB debugging from setting>applications>development
*start kies mini and follow on screen (I assumed that you will update it officially)
*after you connect the phone to pc it will automatically discoverd but without debugging kies does not recognize (in my case)
*try changing the USB ports on you pc or laptop when plugging the data cable....
Hopefully it work... let know if it helps....

Just a warning, kies will most likely brick your phone and turn it into a paper weight. I would advise against upgrading with kies. The official upgrade is terrible anyway, your better off flashing a custom 2.2 ROM or even jelly bean (4.2) if you want something new.

I really dont like having kies installed at all because even when closed it still has screwed with my odin in the past. So ill just use the toobox exe from the stickies to work with drivers. Yeah but I still need to figure out how to connect to the computer. The drivers are all set properly. I guess I'll try rereuninstalling it and rereinstalling them again. Then reboot both and make sure USB debugging and USB mass storage. Then if all else fails, I'll try messing with it with my puppy Linux. But if I am never able to get it connected to the computer again, is there any way root the vibrant without the computer? Something like ExynosAbuse or Framaroot?

You can look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028 to root your phone with update.zip method (very simple). Use astro file manager or something similar to move the update.zip to the root of the internal SD card and reboot to recovery mode and reinstall packages twice. Note - update.zip method A will just root your phone and method B will give you clockwork mod recovery mode which allows you to install custom ROMs that come pre-rooted.

Thank You iTz Keefy, now all I need is the newest stock version rooted in a flashable zip format that will work with ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.2 coming from rooted 2.1 with iTz Keefy's sited method, anybody have a link? I have done extensive searching to find this file already, but to no avail, I cant seem to find exactly what I am looking for.
Edit: I would actually be looking for maybe even a jelly bean ROM doesn't rally matter if it stock like I said, all that matters is that it is suuuuuper stable (as I will likely mod it to that point and then just have her use it regularly from there). Also with the whole clockwork mod being only 2.5.1.2 restriction - I don't know of any way to update this because ROM manager isn't compatible with 2.1 and I'm not so sure you can update cwm through cwm...
When you flash a ROM cwm recovery will upgrade itself if need be. If you want something really stable I would recommend a 2.2 ROM. There is a stock 2.2 zip here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674519. I personally prefer Fishman's 2.2 ROMs but that's your choice. You can look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t= and check to see which ROM you prefer.

Second link doesn't work... Maybe you can just quote me the title and I'll search it and it'll be easy to find. Or just a working link that's strange. Thanks! Oh and I also want touchwiz rom.

Yea second link won't work for some reason. Just go to the development section and find the kernel Bible thread by noob in need (3rd or 4th thread down). Click on ROMs in that thread to see just about every ROM available for our phone.

You need Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread; search for it & try the stuff in the thread. Should enable you to get a successful flash away.

You need to uninstall Kies before running Odin. Check out the guide at the top of this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43640820&postcount=1
Not so much uninstall it, because installing Kies is an easy way (for some n00bs) to get the drivers you need installed to make Odin work, but make sure it/it's child processes aren't running in Windoze Task Manager before you try to use Odin & end them if they are. It's those that don't play nice with it.
But that's in Hopper's thread, and the whole point of the thread/having info like that in one 'reference' is so we don't have to constantly repeat ourselves everytime someone runs into problems with Odin.

same prob
If you uninstall Kies you have to install the Samsung USB drivers (attached at the very bottom of the post in that that topic I referenced above).
Either that or reinstall Kies and do as MistahBungle stated above.

yes installed samsung usb drivers from there but nothing happened
All I can suggest is that you read @Hopper8 Odin troubleshooting guide carefully. You will find it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2345831
Hopefully it will be able to solve your problem.
cheers
OP - take it to someone who knows what they're doing. I suggested that thread (which covers every possible thing that could stop Odin from working) this time yesterday, you've clearly shown you're unable/unwilling to even try everything (anything?) in the thread. So until such time as you do (or do as I suggested in the first sentence of this post), your phone stays busted. We can't fix it for you, only you can.

i have tried everything and many roms.
now problem solved. i have installed by my friend's pc. No error, it got installed. thanx for helping
Hi guys, i realy need your help, my phone is dead.
In the beggining i had a problem with power controller: Phone thought that it is constantly charging (For that time i thought that the problem is in micro usb port or in firmware)
I decided to flash it and go to stock via backup made by CWM a year ago.
But during this process the phone made a reboot by itself and after that there was no loading. I could see only name of the device and thats it.
No recovery. Only download mode.
I gave my phone to service center, they told that I have two problems: 1st is connected to power controller, 2 - dead flash memory. They say that port usb is ok (tried different board with micro usb port). They try flash it via Riff box Jtag but process stopped at data.img.
I took the phone and tried to flash it via Heimdall with brick fix pit.
After using this pit file, the phone was flashed normally and even turned on normally.
But in the phone info menu I saw no any data about internal memory. (It was damaged and required format). I tried format through phone menu and it did nothing.
I decided to flash the phone via Odin with normal 16 GB pit file and had a bad luck. I experienced freez during re-partition. After this, phone is a complete brick.
When I connect it to PC without battery pressing vol down and rower buttons it connects as unknown device but there is nothing on the phone display. No recovery, no download mode. Nothing - just reflection of my frustrated face).
Currently i'm tring to make a Jig, maybe it'll put it in the download mode, but hope is dying...
I've herad somewhere that it is possible to put it in the download mode in linux. Any other suggestions?
Replace motherboard.

Is it the only way?
If the EMMC is corrupted & a JTAG failed, that's the fix.
