would i be able to flash a custom ROM? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I am trying to root my friend's phone from france. I believe it is an international version because it says GT-i9300 at boot up. anyways i successfully rooted my phone and my cousin's phone using this method:
http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s3-on-mac-osx/
On my friend's phone i was able to flash the recovery.img file but when i try to install the CMW-Superuser.zip file and it says verification failed.
anyways would i be able to flash a custom rom that is already rooted, even tho i was not able to flash the superuser zip file? would that be safe? i would like to try it but not sure if it's a BIG risk.

You flash most custom roms from CWM recovery .
F**** knows what you have flashed from another site .
Flash CF Root from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238
read instructions for custom rom and flash it .
jje

.. or simply use the Galaxy S3 Toolkit.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488

Yes you can. Only a few custom roms tho because only a few have an odin version of the rom. Cfroot is the easiest way

Can i just flash the CF-Rootxxx.zip file thru recovery?

Flashing clockworkmod

Has anyone tried flashing clockworkmod using rom manager app? how was it composted to manual flash? Thanks.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
You cannot compost CWM .
Root and CWM post .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
ClockworkMod
CF-Root includes a custom version of CWM4. I always make custom versions, as the originals often do not take some Samsung specific things into account.
CF-Root/CWM4 is NOT compatible with ROM Manager! Manage/perform your backup/restores from CWM directly or using the CWM Manager application included with CF-Root
I'm sorry I don't know what you're saying. My phone is rooted already I only need to instal clockworkmod to install rom right? Please make it simple.

Make it simple if you root with CMW & Root you get Clockwork Mod thats the method most custom roms use .
Other methods not a clue .

Think jje might be saying keep it simple and use a kernel that has cwm. Chainfires cfroot kernels for instance.
Rom manager...why when you have cwm app already in cfroot.
Edit: like above post said. Cfroot is not compatible with Rom manager.
It's pretty simple.
Flash one of chainfires kernels with Odin. Now you have root and cwm accessible via up+home+power or cwm app.
Download the desired cwm installable package (eg Rom) to your internal sdcard.
Access cwm recovery mode like said above and follow the process EXACTLY as the instructions say in the thread where you downloaded the cwm installable package. Eg Rom
Hope this helps.

Ahh you're making a sense. I thought my tech language was bad do iv can't understand JJ. Anyway thanks guys I'll try the manual way.

THe thing I learned:
Never use ROM manager when using a ROM based on samsung firmware.
Use ROM manager when using AOSP ROM like CM7.
Here I am again guys, sorry to bother you with my quest to change rom.
OK, so I can't install cwm with Rom manager.
I've tried installing cwm using the cyanogenmod guide, with no success. It gave me this ''ERROR: Failed to access device. Libush error: -12"
At this point, I'm desperate to install any rom. So I tried to unroot then install a sercure kernel back in to update official firmware. Even that doesn't work. I can't install the secure kernel. I eneded up installing the insecure kernel just to get the phone to work. So please lead me to something that easy?
Install a CF-Root kernel via Odin. You get root and CWM all included so you can install ROMs and do whatever.Thats what people have been tryin to tell you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
As that's great I'll try it asap. This is what I want to see simple and direct, you even provide a link.thanks a bunch dude.

That was just too easy and here I was trying every other method. That thread should be pinned to the first page. Thanks everyone.

Best rooting method for stock 2.3.5.?

Hello,
Apparently, upd_1.zip method doesn't work, and SuperOneClick 2.3.3 can't root stock 2.3.5.
How can I root my Ace?
What's the error you are getting?
Is it something like status 7?
I also encountered similar issue.
1st time stock ROM root is OK. After roll back from custom ROM to same stock ROM, I got this error!
Try to wipe cache, format etc .. It works for me!
yeh I had that problem for like 5 weeks trying to root my ace but it had no root access !
OK so download cf-root b3
and flash with cwm 4
then just flash a different rom !
that simple
now I have root and a custom from!!!

I'm not getting any error, I read about experiences with both these tools and I'm pretty sure they can't root the device with stock 2.3.5. firmware. I want to know if anyone had success in rooting 2.3.5. and what tools had been used.

I don't want to flash a new firmware or a new recovery. I just want to root my phone so that I can remove some pre-installed applications.

Stock 2.3.5 ? I rooted it using the upd_1.zip file. Worked for me. Try the file posted in 'ZIP file to root ace" in this section. It might help.

Updated my brand new galaxy two days ago. Had no problems and was locked to the three network.
Used stock recovery to flash cwm v4 and then used this to apply the root update zip.
I am now running nimms amazing cm 7.2 rom and have had no problems.

Hi all,
May i know if i am able to flash a kernel like "siyah" on an unroot S3 by using the default recovery mode on Samsung S3?
If yes, are there any implication as the user does not wish to root but hope to have a better kernel.
Thanks.
Siyah is rooted kernel if you flash custom kernel all kernel is rooted. And you wil flash whit Odin nhot stock recovery.

no you cant,
if you have not rooted and CWM not installed, only throgh odin
major kernels are coming with auto rooting..
Even if i were to use the press vol up button with menu and power key to install the kernel from there, it still wont work?
Its Kernel and not ROM... so must i still use Odin?

Wrong kernel can be flashed via Odin without root if in the correct TAR format see stock rom thread .
Custom kernel likewise if its in TAR format .

[Q] Can't update Recovery by Odin.

I had installed the old version of ClockworkMod Touch. Now, I'm trying to update by Odin and is not working. This has happened with some of you? Thanks!

i don't need recovery and all. i need to use tasker dpad, etc
As slaphead said, flash cf-root or auto root depending on if you need CWM. With mobile Odin pro btw you would keep root every time when you flash a new rom.
