I don't think that gives you recovery but you can flash that seperately anyway

i don't need recovery and all. i need to use tasker dpad, etc
As slaphead said, flash cf-root or auto root depending on if you need CWM. With mobile Odin pro btw you would keep root every time when you flash a new rom.

Hi. I am trying to root my friend's phone from france. I believe it is an international version because it says GT-i9300 at boot up. anyways i successfully rooted my phone and my cousin's phone using this method:
http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s3-on-mac-osx/
On my friend's phone i was able to flash the recovery.img file but when i try to install the CMW-Superuser.zip file and it says verification failed.
anyways would i be able to flash a custom rom that is already rooted, even tho i was not able to flash the superuser zip file? would that be safe? i would like to try it but not sure if it's a BIG risk.
You flash most custom roms from CWM recovery .
F**** knows what you have flashed from another site .
Flash CF Root from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238
read instructions for custom rom and flash it .
jje
.. or simply use the Galaxy S3 Toolkit.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488
Yes you can. Only a few custom roms tho because only a few have an odin version of the rom. Cfroot is the easiest way

my phone is currently rooted, i meant should i unroot before flashing?
whenever I flash a stock firmware via odin my phone gets unrooted automaticaly
I had the same question but after searching a bit, I was informed I could just flash using Odin. Most likely lose root but can be rerooted afterwards, at least that's what I was told.

Yup, just flash with Odin then flash cf root again afterwards

Hi! I've got a problem with my new Black S3, I just got it today and I immediately upgraded to Jelly Bean 4.1.1. After a successful update, I tried rooting, Odin displays a PASS but after rebooting, my S3 is not root. No superSU icon or CWM icon. Is there a problem rooting the Black S3? or is the Jelly Bean 4.1.1 cannot be rooted yet? I'm using the CF-Root by Chainfire. \
My sister's S3 is the Pebble Blue one, I rooted it when it was still on ICS 4.0.4 then when I updated it to JB 4.1.1, I just re-rooted it using the same method above, using ODIN and CF-Root by Chainfire and I succeeded in rooting it.
Is it required to root the S3 on ICS first then upgrade to JB? Please help me on this.
Thanks!
Somebody mentioned not auto-starting after flash and manually going into recovery to trigger installation.
Uncheck the auto restart box and flash, then turn phone off and go into recovery

What will I do after going into recovery? What files should I install in-order to root? Up until now I've been using CF-Root by Chainfire because it already has the SuperSU and CWM installed automatically.
Please advise. Thanks!
Use CF root it works on JB .

I've been using this "CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4" by Chainfire. Now it doesn't work on my new Black S3.

Do nothing, just manually boot into recovery, it should then kick in

did you try re-downloading the file or wiping the phone (make sure you do a backup)?
did you try Odin or Mobile Odin?

You said you are on rooted stock rom? Why not just download the stock rom from sammobile or checkfus and install it over you current? (First time you can try without wipe)

If you get your phone back to stock conditions, meaning unroot and status: not modified, you will get ota updates once the rom you installed gets its.

I would suggest you to factory reset first. It will not remove cwm and root.
If that didn't solved the problem then you should update your firmware.

There is no need to remove them first.
Cwm recovery will be replaced by stock recovery and you will lose root if you flash fw with odin.

If you are flashing STOCK ROM with odin then you don't need to wipe data/cache/dalvik.
If you are flashing a CUSTOM ROM through cwm recovery then wipes are recommended.
