A Question about Flashing - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

It is easy enough to download and flash stock roms using flashtool.
I recently flashed the new 2.45 FW using the same method. the phone is working fine.
I downloaded the NL FW (Netherlands generic FW) from one of the links posted in the mega firmware compilation thread.
Here's my Q: when sony updates the firmware in the future and since Europe is always first to get such updates, Will I now get updates whenever the fw is released in Netherlands when using PCC from now onwards?
This is for a non rooted phone and using the internet/location in India.

I believe so. As long as your bootloader is still locked

Hello!
I want to flash this rom too,can you tell me that when I flash it with Flashtool, which items on the right hand should I choose?? (the wipe/exclude/misc items)
Thanks!:good:

That depends if you want a fresh install. Or to keep your data and apps etc. If you already have a custom kernel you want to keep etc

I wanted to preserve all the data, settings and apps so i had unchecked all options on the right side.

I believe once you flash a region's firmware onto your device, it will follow that region from here on out. I flashed NL's Gingerbread .73 version last night and repaired through Sony's PCC, ended up with NL's version of ICS instead of my region. So I think you'll get NL updates from now on instead of Europe's.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Its alwayz good to wipe data/logs if your are flashing a stock/custom ROM. SDcard data doesnt get touched, its just the internal data. Though if your phone already came with an ICS build then i guess u can just update it without wiping the data but be sure that u always UNCHECK the "Verification" (Its at the bottom right of flashtool) box when u flash ICS. You can leave it checked if you are into GB

AGAIN, its alwayz good to have a clean installation if you are taking a big leap. As such upgrading from GB to ICS. As some applications might behave abnormally and force close more often.

so if everyone moved to European fw everyone will get the fw before rest of the world. Not bad i suppose.
Now as far as flashing is concerned i updated from 452 to 2.45 so it was not a big leap.

Question before upgrading to ICS (updates comming March 10th)

well, i have an GS2 rooted (android 2.3.4) and sim unlocked with Galaxy S Unlocker.
if i upgrade to ICS when its released, do i loose root?
if I loose root, SuperOneClick will still work if my GS2 is ICS or do i need to wait to an update of SUperOneClick (to supor GS2 with ICS) to root my device again?
well, those are my questions.
thanks in advance.

1) Of course you'll lose root if you go back to stock.
2) Ask whomever developed SuperOneClick if it will work with ICS.

Hi,
I've rooted my S2 with CF-Root 4.1 and I'm using a 2.3.5 SamFirmware ROM.
Can I just update over KIES when ICS comes out? Will the Kernel be replaced and what Files will be erased?

If you have a rooted rom, if I remember well, Kies won't update your firmware... You have to use ODIN...
ok so just to make this 100% clear (i am a complete noob and i always make stupid questions, so flaming is accepted )
I have a Galaxy S2 with just rooted firmware (XWKJ1). I used an insecure version of this firmware to root the phone following the Odin/CF Root guide. Also I am not using any custom made rom like CM for example... If I upgrade my phone through Kies when the ICS update rolls out will I be able to complete the process succesfully?
Also from what I understand if the update procedure is completed succesfully I will lose root and will have to do the whole process all over again... Is there an insecure firmware matching the ICS firmware that will replace my old one?
Thanks in advance for your help...

Unless the ICS firmware you upgrade to is already rooted, then yes. You will lose root.
Just try Resurrectio Remix v9.6 by westcrip. Its the best ics rom right now.

It was never guaranteed to be released worldwide on a single day anyways. Can you imagine the millions of I9100 users all trying to download the official ICS update via Kies at the same time? Their servers would have an aneurysm.
It would surely have been reposted for download though. Also, it was posted in various languages including English speaking Samsung sites.
I know that it is what it is and there's little point now, but I haven't had my ***** about it yet, except to my wife who is fairly confused about why this is such a disappointment for me.
Now I've had my little ***** attack about it not happening and will maintain it to this.
I dont understand why its such a big deal to get the update. Why not just flash a custom rom?

I've been squeamish after many GB ones had serious issues, for example we'd forgotten our camera when my second kid was born by cesarian and I had a sleep of death on the phone - was doing a Nandroid restore of stock 10 minutes prior to entering the operating room. It saved the day.
That said, I flashed a custom ROM right after that last post and it's been really impressive. I haven't yet found an issue with it. Everything seems to be working really well and the battery life might even be a little better than the GB ROM I was using though it's still to early to say.
I get annoyed with all the banners and the immediate back patting when there's a new RoM that hasn't even been tested, but just to answer the question some people might be asking about which one I was impressed with, it was Resurection Remix. It also happens, thogh, to be the first one I flashed that was a Samsung based ROM opposed to AOSP.
It is still annoying though. I suspect Samsung is merely manufacturing their own hype about this, intentionally, and that is irritating.

Revert from ICS to GB

Hey there, I installed ICS 4.0.3 on to my S2 yesterday, after using it for a day, the battery drains way too fast, the music player keeps crashing, and other various apps keep crashing. I would like to revert to GB 2.3.6.
I used to have KK2, and im on LP8. I dont play around with ROMs so these are all stock ROMs.
Someone please guide me on what to do. I did a search but that didnt help me much

Hey fellas, i'm looking to send my phone to Samsung for servicing, but obviously i cant let them see that i'm running ICS because it isnt out in Singapore yet.
so i've download DXLP7 in hope that i could flash my country's firmware before returning my phone.
Download both the kernel and the 7zip file that is 310mb in size.
opened the massive file to only find one tar file, so if i flash that via odin, my phone will completely return to stock?
as in a condition that the service centre wont suspect?
what about the kernel that i downloaded, do i have to flash that as well?
Much appreciate some help.
Regards,
Shawn.

Look at the battery status wich app is draining your battery.
Yesterday i didnt use my phone for 2 hours, before my battery was around 50% but after the 2 hour my battery was only 18%. I looked at my battery report/status and it said:
Xda 29
Screen 27
And some things like
Bla bla 7
Bla bla 4
...
Mostly my screen haves around 60% so, now xda is the same value but the screen didnt use more or less energy so.........
Thanks to the xda app my battery drained 2x so hard.
I gues (how do you spell that?) you also use the xda app and it alsobis your problem.

Hello All,
I am a noob.
So I am looking into going back to GB 2.3.5
I have flashed stock ICS Netherlands XWLP7 and I have downloaded the firmware of my country.
Which is: GT-I9100_EGY_I9100JPKJ2_I9100OJPKJ1_I9100XXKI4.tar.md5
And kernal: Kernel_I9100JPKJ2.tar.md5
I have a question, it has been explained to me that I need to flash these files using odin+flashing a PIT file and using re-partition.
I could not find a PIT file? where do I get it from to go along with my firmware?
And, do I need to flash a Modem?
Is it possible for the kind soul thats going to answer my questions to put it in 1,2, 3 steps so I can understand what do to first?
I.E
1- Flash kernal
2- Flash firmware
or what?
Thanks a lot!
@ Sn3aks:
What is the reason you are downgrading to GB?
What is the condtion of your phone now?
Who advised you to use pit file?
---------- Post added at 10:02 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:59 AM ----------
the firmware package you have mentioned already contains a kernel, no need of flashing kernel seperately..that is uploaded in the thread for future use when you needed to flash after rooting.
Thanks for your reply.
I am downgrading cause GB is more stable than ICS. Music player lags with some songs
Random crashes
I can not modify the in-call headset/handset volume from the servicemode. If you click Audio it doesnt come up with anything. And the in-call voice through earphones is really low
And other stuff that annoyed me and I couldnt remember.
The noticeable improvement in ICS is battery life and performance is fast
What is the condtion of your phone now?
My phone is ok, working fine, making calls, going over the internet normaly, IMEI is valid. Not rooted. Binary count = NO
Faryaab advised me to use a PIT file. I checked the guide in your signature and I read that anyone who asks about PIT file is a moron. Is this my case?
I dont think PIT file is required in your case,
You can try without using PIT first.
GT-I9100_EGY_I9100JPKJ2_I9100OJPKJ1_I9100XXKI4.tar.md 5
select above file from PDA of ODIN.
Do a factory reset before flashing...

[Q] Updating from an (rooted) branded to an unbranded ICS?

I will be using Odin to update, because my current version (2.3.3) is rooted. I would like to upgrade to 4.0.3, but I don't know whether to use a branded firmware or not because I don't live in France anymore, and I don't need a branded phone.
Also, is updating to 4.0.3 worth it, or does it drain the battery life like when you update your iOS to a newer version.
yes, updating is worth it beccause you get better batery life depending on what apps are running in the back ground.
you do not need to use a branded app for 4.0.3 their are unbranded stock or customized roms. Yolu will need to experiment till you find one that you like.

Hi there! So, I have found a custom ROM like (Mystic's Glory), but I was wondering whether I can update/flash it directly using Odin, or if I need to update it to the official ICS, then flash the custom rom? Excuse my newbiness.
You can flash your chosen rom directly via odin if it's in a tar. file format. Or flash it via CWM if it's in a zip file format. Be sure to carry out full wipes and format system to ensure a clean installation. Ideally follow installation guide for your chosen rom. Oh and make a back up before you start.

No, you need to wait for your region. You can of course flash one of the releases but you may get problems and end up having to wipe the phone to solve them.
You can get everything back except for your settings. You'll have to do the dance but everything else is recoverable.

[Sola] Unable to turn Wifi On

Ok, I was using the official ICS rom and out of nowhere I got the Wifi bug, my wifi was unable to turn on.
So I already tried to fix:
1) Unlocking the bootloader
2) Installing the CMW recovery
3) Installing the xICS Hybrid ROM rom (wiping everything)
And the bug is there even on a wiped new rom.
Still not working.
Why??? Isn't there any fix for it? Even changing roms!
Please help!
