Could be broken in that kernel, try reflashing it and made sure the developer who makes it the change log doesn't say something like BLN is broken in this release. If these don't help you can try using an app called NoLED (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.led.notify) that allows similar function to BLN for devices without the notification led.

please write some more deails here:
- what Gingerbread version have you installed ?
- is it a stock (LG) rom or customized rom like CyanogenMod7 or something else ?
- do you have installed / modified / tweaked something in scripts ?
- was the crt animation working before made any changes or was it the first clean install and the CRT animation isnt working ?

You are using an Optimus S not an Nexus S. Only Nexus S default have that feature.

So does sprint turn off those features when they tweak the sdk or does Google turn it off?
Is there a way to turn it on through the scripts it apks or anything. I know I have to root it but that's fine.

Crt is actually supported by Mik_os's cyanogenmod porting and by Gingerlol 1.5.2 rom.
You could try one of these.

No, he can't. From what I believe that optimus s uses a different partition order than optimus one

it doesnt matter all about this crt ... the nice looking CRT feature brings us the black screen bug, so its disabled in most of devices that have original firmware from manufacturer...
its because OpenGL 1.x (Optimus One have only OpenGL ES 1.x) doesnt support Offscreen drawing or better "On a device who the display is powered off already", so it must be give errors in kernel (You can see that in dmesg command in the shell).
Do any of these ports have any serious bugs like, no GPS or messaging or 3g etc.? Or even stability problems?

Oh that makes complete sense. Thanks!
But I remember having it on my hero with cyanogen mod 7! And I don't think that phone had open gl. Open gl didn't come available to phones till the year after. But I could be wrong.

without OpenGL you cant get the CRT screen.
Crt effect for stock 2.3.3 rom!
For those who are still on stock 2.3.3 rom (but rooted!) and would like to have CRT effect, flash this zip file via clockworkmod. Can't remember where I got this, but it works!
Tested on V20G, not working with V20H
I was wondering if someone could list off a few BLN supported roms/kernels for me... I'm currently using powerwashed and was wondering if there was a BLN kernel I could use. You dont realize how nice that feature is until you dont have it on a ROM.

Works well on CM7 and MIUI with the Glitch kernel. I would also recommend using the "blinky" app to fine tune:
market.android.com/details?id=com.kin.blinky
TKSGB supports BLN. Flash that kernel and get Blinky and you are GTG....
Yes you can also use BLN Control Pro. Just make sure you set it up to blink with blinky or pro, because if you don't it times out after a few seconds.
Hello all!! I'm using the latest CheckROM with cf-root kernel... I'd like to know some opinions with this rom and siyah kernel 2.4.1... How is the battery life? Is it stable? What is the bln mod in the kitchen pro app?
Thanks in advance!!!

Err...read the thread?
I am using that combination. The Battery life is good and my phone has been stable so far and also incredibly smooth. The only issue is that the kitchen app doesn't install modifications automatically with clockwork recovery 5 so you would have to flash them manually after downloading them.
BLN is a service that can make your white capacitive buttons light up in various ways to notify you about incoming messages, missed calls etc.

I have CheckROM 4.0 + SiyahKernel 2.4.2: works very good!
Thanks for your answers!
I also use that combo. Yes it is very good. Battery life is the best I have had personally.
Oh, and the kitchen installs the updates properly for me...

Guys, why dont discuss CheckROM in CheckROM Thread?
Do you really need new thread for this conversation?
Lol @ me

Dont mean to bump thread, but I'm also on CheckROM V4 and Siyah kernel.
When i download BLN using kitchen pro, it doesn't seem to work for me. Any help? I've tried downloading BLN from the market as well.
Siyah kernel works great with check ROM. Pretty stable and the battery life is great. But frankly speaking the differences if any are negligible. They are more of placebo. I currently use Siyah for MIUI only for the undervolting and bln support.
Hi,
I have an issue with siyah kernel 3.2.1.
The night, i turn my phone in plane mode. When the phone isn't in charge, the ring of alarm doesn't work in the morning. It seems the phone is asleep.
I'am on VK 4.7.2 rom.
Thanks in advance for your help
It's a feature of the kernel to make sure that you are well rested. Alarms interfere with this.
same issue for me with siyah kernel 3.2.1 and Resurrection Remix
Isn,t there a solution?
Thanks

Try iurnait's cm11 ROM with Android 4.4.4 it's really good and stable. It also has a feature when you receive notifications your backlights will flash with the screen off. And the heads up feature compatible to the hover.

FYI Backlight notifications are enabled at the kernel level in Meticulus's Nutella kernel, so all roms with his kernel (cm/pac/carbon) should have the feature.
OK my misrake
