Remember when this came out on fire sale and everyone was so pumped up to root the touchpad and get Cm 9 running? What's happened, it seems like it's slow down so much! I guess Cm 9 was mostly completed no thanks to HP, and they did a great job. what about jelly bean? We got a preview about a month ago and that's pretty much it. I know Oats have done a few things here and there, but compared to what it used to be, it just seems like this tablet is dying in terms of new development. Is that just the way the cookie crumbles? Should I sell my touchpad and get something newer? Like I said, cm 9 works great I'm just a little disappointed that people moved on so quickly, it's still has great specs for what it is, and for what most of us paid for it. In all honesty, I get scared to pay a donation to devs now, because I feel like they use the money to buy the next great thing and move on, when that is not the intention of the donation. The intent is to thank them for developing and improving roms, not to buy another tablet or phone and move on. Does anyone else feel this way, are my thoughts misguided?

Yes, things do seem a little slow around here. I kind of just figured because the weather is nice outside that people are just not on XDA as much right now.
I imagine it would be hard to think about Developing when the sun is shining outside.
I think the intention of donations is to thank them for this ROM, today, not to guilt them into developing a future ROM. But by the way, I think CM10 is still being actively developed. There are links to the development updates at BBQLog in the CM10 thread.
I think the nexus 7 happened.

They don't make the Touchpad anymore and a new bargain priced Nexus tablet is out. Also there is still work going on with the Touchpad, CM10 is being worked on which is why the CM9 nightlies have slowed up. Most of what could be done on CM9 has been done, the chances of getting working camera is looking pretty low at this point.

CM-10 for the touchpad is not ready for a nightly yet because many things still do not work (sound, video, mic etc). Under the TouchPad Development forum there is some info on a CM-10 build by Light n Tasty. I am a "junior", so no link posting for me, but the title is:
[ROM] OaT's Light n Tasty: CM9 (07/29), CM10 (08/19)
Once I downloaded the ROM I couldn't flash it in TWRP until I renamed the .zip to match the CM naming convention. If I remember correctly I named it to:
cm-10-20120819-unoffical.zip
I'm just as anxious to get JB going on my TP and Droid3, both of which are progressing very slowly. I have to keep reminding myself that it was indeed months before things were up and stable on either of those devices when ICS came. I am hoping for the best and good things will come to those who wait. Not to put pressure on anyone, but I suspect great things will happen in a couple weeks or so.
Along the lines of the Nexus 7, I think that the general price point for Android tablets (7" and 10") has dropped to the point where the TouchPad isn't the crazy deal that it was, even at $200-250 resale prices. Add to that the fact that TouchPad ICS is basically rock solid aside from the camera driver and there's just not a need for the level of activity we saw in the past when GB and then ICS were first being brought to the device. JB is obviously still a work-in-progress, but it's not the significant leap that ICS was relative to GB where it was an actual tablet-oriented OS instead of a handset-oriented OS running on tablet hardware.
Anyway, I'm not knocking it at all because the TP is a fantastic device with ICS installed, but it makes sense to me that it would slow down as the work has become increasingly more complete and newer, higher-end hardware has reached a competitive price point.
ima disagree yet again. i think dropping interest in a device because something new and shiny comes along makes for a bad development community. and these forums are about keeping devices alive as manufacturers and carriers are so quickly dismissive with their out-with-the-old-in-with-the-new money making attitudes. i dont think we should pose a defeatist withdrawl, defending lack of development by saying "welp, this ones good enough, and the next versions not that big a leap anyways". its a real shame dalingrin isnt as interested in this device any more, and that development seems dead. hopefully there will be a regroup and a few brave men with the skills and talent can kick start it up again. ill be looking forward to the day that this device, which still has a very large market share, gets the interest it deserves.
To be fair the craze wasn't that much on development when the fire sale happened. We only had dalingrin working on it. I'm still surprised jelly bean hasn't moved forward on the touchpad. I thought it was a small jump
Sent from my Desire S using Tapatalk 2
Im sure jcsullis is still working on the touchpad but thats it. From the start we just had a few developers working on the touchpad and those few had more problems "fighting" each other, instead of working together. For example the classicnerds, instead of group up with dalingrin and co. and try to improve what already was there (cyanogenmod), they just created something new with the same bugs -> over-all-progress = 0%.
Very interesting discussions. I enjoy reading everyone's opinion. Jack, I hope someone steps up as well. This still has respectable specs for the $$.

HP Touchpad was my first tablet device. With CyanogenMod, it was my first Andriod device. If developement stopped today, I still have the life that CM Team Touchpad and other Touchpad Developers breathed into the zombie tablet I purchased from the firesale.
I have a viable ICS tablet that performs 98% of what I need/want. Compare that to webOS and it's dwindling offerings of apps. I find I boot to webOS only for Video Skype.
For the whole Andriod Experiment on my tablet, I can only thank those tireless efforts the Devs shared with the community.
I for one am thankful for what I've reveiced for free. I look forward to a tasty Jelly Bean snack, sometime in the future.

In the meantime, CM7.1 would be nice - but will they just skip over 7.1 for new devices and focus on 9?
Just as a heads up, Max Krivonos posted that he stopped working on CM7 for the amaze and is going straight to CM9,
Double edged sword. Great for CM9 but no CM at all for a few months.

I've thought alot about selling this phone due to the lack of having a huge community support (face it, it's no Sensation, Desire Z/HD, Evo, etc)... The hardware is good, the replacement? Obviously a Galaxy Nexus, if there is a solid CM9 port for this device, I would probably just save myself the trouble and keep using this, This has everything that the international GNex would have, except for the huge high res amoled screen. Please Koush/Max!!!! (I would think quite a bit could be borrowed from the Pyramid builds, with the obvious exception of the NFC/camera)
Uh... How long has the phone been out?? Let's face that first before complaining about the lack of development... It'd be nice if there was but its not going to happen over night...

Be patient my friend! I think the reason behind (kinda) lacking developtment for this phone is because there will be an ICS came out soon for it in early 2012 and most Devs are waiting for the official Amaze ICS release rather than wasting their time to built rom that would only last for less than two months
On that perspective I am really thankful for Xboarder for his effort to brought us something to satisfied our addictiveness of flashing meanwhile
I am more thankful to Max Krivonos, and Keyan Mobli (Scepterr/kmobs), Max is probably gonna be the maintainer for the Amaze for CM9 and is currently the maintainer for the MT4GS, kmobs is the maintainer of the Sensation for CM9 and has it to a point where he's said "So I'm now using ICS as my daily driver"... There is hope, but if you're looking for CM7/9 or any REAL AOSP build, don't expect xboarder to deliver that, I don't think he compiles anything, he's a themer/kanger/(insert less offensive term here). There is hope, but I'm dying to see some actual AOSP builds, GB or ICS.

Just trying to keep options out there during our "slow" (see:new) period. Development takes time--Hell, I'm stuck on a macbook until I can save up for a notebook. Once I get that, I'll be able to do real theming/modding. UOT framework feels like a cop-out right now, but it is all that is being offered and we need the activity to draw more people. I have a to-do list of mods I want to do, but until I get my hardware back, it isn't happening.
Ultimately, it is patience. This phone is very new--ICS is around the corner.

I really run the risk of coming off as a whiny little leach right now but really I am just curious...
I obviously have no dev skills at all, so I rely on the capable members of XDA and other such sites. Of my first two Android devices (Droid Incredible and Galaxy Nexus) dev support has been insane. New ROMs daily and mods that are out of this world.
I guess what I really want to know is why are we finding very few ROMs for the TP?
A) VERY few devs bought this device
B) The TP has a totally new framework (Quad-core, ICS on a Tablet) that is causing a lot of issues and ROMs will begin to flow soon.
C) Both
D) Neither
P.S. PLEASE don't flame me, I am really just curious, not trying to cause any arguments.
P.P.S Lovin me some Virtuous
Prime has only been able to run custom ROMs for around 2 to 3 weeks now(too lazy to actually calculate). I would say what we have considering this is actually good. Modding is in its extreme infancy for the prime right now and some very awesome things will be done in time.
Thanks,
That is pretty much what I was hoping to hear. As long as I am not stuck with a device with little to no dev support I am happy. I will be patient
I think 5 different rom in the Dev section doesn't count as very little...
As soon as other Tegra 3 tabs are released, we'll probably see a jump in the number of ROMs.

This is kinda what I gathered. I've only had my TP for a couple of weeks. I was surprised to see such little development (I'm spoiled as I have a GNex) when I came to the forums; however, as I began reading threads, I came to see that this tablet had just recently came unlocked. Having only had its bootloader unlocked for a short period of time, the prime is still in early stages of development. The only ROMs that are released right out of the gate are pretty basic (Debloated, deodexed, etc.). The prime is a newcomer to tablets with its Tegra 3 quad-core processor and for devs to fully utilize its capabilities, they need time to get familiar with it. I have been following the development thread since its release, and i'd say its made a lot of progress since then
I'm looking forward to more ROMs too, really would like to see more start springing up, it's a little bare right now. Here's to hoping that more and more start springing up otherwise that was a waste of a warranty

Gday guys,
I have a question regarding the short term future of the Nook Tablet. Now, Celtic Solutions have finished making CM7 ROM, I am unsure about what happens next.
I have got the latest CM7 Rom installed on my Tablet when it was released in Early April, if i wanted a more recent update version of CM7, what must i do.
I'm just a bit unclear about what is meant to happen next? Apart from CM9.
Is it possible that someone can shead some light on this topic for me.
Cheers Steve
CM7 is complete enough that it can be used quite well as a daily driver. It was never really meant to be an end all be all for the Nook tablet; more of an interim rom until CM9 was complete/stable. A new developer is being brought in for CM9 so stay tuned for development.
I don't really know if there is being much work done on CM7 but like I said, its fairly complete as is. CM9 is as well, with the exception of the proper kernel and subsequently hardware acceleration (netflix, higher end games).
Ah I see, well I can't wait for the full release of cm9 then. I've seen them talking about the cm7.2, does that relate to the 8GB tablet.
I know I'm not meant to ask this but... Have they put a rough ETA on when cm9 will be released? Loads of guys donated to buy some developers a nook tablet, do we can't be far off. What do ya think?

There was a misunderstanding about some gpl issues beetween the NT build config and proper source git sync.
All got clear after original_ganjaman spoke with CelticWebSolutions.
So CelticWebSolutions when find some time may update CM7.
Theres never an ETA.
I'm so happy with CM7 I'm not even looking anymore

Is there something wrong with the 7.2 build you have now? CyanogenMod's 7.2 branch is the latest release, their fixes are mostly bugfixes related to specific devices now, since they've moved most of their development to the CM9 devices.
As said previously, there is no ETA for cm9. When they get the kernel working, when they finish their respective tweaks, it'll be done. If you have any programming knowledge, they're actively looking for new members to help with the work though!
Hi there
out of curiosity I am following the ICS development since I bought my Optimus T and to me as it looks it seems to be quite difficult to get an ICS build for this phone which is on a similar feature level as GB. Most builds I found run well but often lack here and there some important tools like camera or wifi sharing etc.
Now my question is how do you judge the future of ICS for this phone? It is not the most advanced model as I know it was cheap to buy. So I am not sure how much incentive developers have to get ICS running on this hardware.
And no I am complaining or crying out loud. I largely am glad that because of this forum I can run GB on this phone because T Mobile did not bother to update this on their own.
I am just curious if at one point ICS might work or if I should better in a half a year or so simply invest into a new phone

Most features are working, it's green signal for everything which doesn't uses the OMX libraries.
I'm positive that those will be released soon, and we'll have perfectly fully functional ICS ROMs in a few months. The current ICS ROMs are suitable for daily use, though.
Still, there are many awesome GB based ROMs for our phone, and yeah I do think some features of ICS is awesome, I can manage without them too.
If you can, by all means, go ahead and buy a new phone, cause P500 has old and comparatively weak hardware now. But if you can't, there are a lot of ROMs which can get the best out of our P500, depending on our needs.

the GB rom I am using is working great - it crashes few times on the phone but otherwise only the Radio is very noisy static.
So I am quite happy with it. The phone is pretty weak. At that time I did not want to pay more for a phone maybe I should have a well.
All I am using it for is calls tasks email and thats basically it. I wish the camera would be better because I take many mental notes with the cam.
I think one cannot expect more from it. But I noticed the limitations of Android with such rather weak phones as well and from my experience iOS runs a tick faster so the cheaper solution is sometimes with android with this phone quite annoying when using Swipe and having sometimes quite long type delays.
Ah well.

Last update for CM10 is 29.12 ?
And it went straight from a nightly to "stable" build.
It is quite silly to abandon one project if yet to be completed abruptly for another.
So like 10.1 will only get three quarters completion and dumped when 4.2.2 aosp code is released?
This is quite frankly utter madness.
A very good enough reason perhaps why ios versions are better polished.
Sadly disappointing.

nothing was abandoned. no stable release exists for this tab suite (until all bugs are squashed) as of yet. i purposefully switched to cm-10.1 for nightly on this tab suite (after various feedback/observations from people).
either move, or wait till the remaining bugs are squashed (first in cm-10.1, which i will then also try my best to apply to cm10) for a possible stable release.
if you want faster progress, start working on it. any help which re-mediates bugs which are device specific are welcomed. this is not closed source. all of this is out in the open. if you want it, make it happen.
your tab was abandoned at official ICS. anything greater is a plus and a gift as far as i'm concerned and is willed by my passion to keep working on it (when everyone else has bailed).

A very good enough reason perhaps why ios versions are better polished.
Sadly disappointing.

Please go to ios if you expect things to be done for you. This is not constructive at all considering that you are bringing nothing to the table. As pershoot said, it is his passion is why we see anything past the gimped TW ICS that was official release by Samsung. Not only is Samsung done with our Tab, so is Google. pershoot worked his butt off to bring compatibility to the code that dropped support for us.

I respect your skills and passions..but
The methodology used here is illogical at best and quite confusing at worst.
BY introducing 10.1 in the same chain of nightly sequences this too is causing a havoc as well.
Users are assuming by being led to assume..this is the continued CM10 build chain of updates.

think of it this way,
i enabled this tab to allow for the latest updates, one in which it would never see otherwise. this allows me to work on the latest and the not so latest, as it pertains to the device, in the public eye to allow for collaboration and feedback.
you don't want it, you do not have to flash. nothing is forced upon you.

You are absolutely right, I'm very pleased to have Your versions available to flash. We who are not so talented, should be grateful (and maybe also a little bit more humble ) Thank You! :good:
Just want to sat Thankyou to pershoot, with CM10.1 my tab is better than it has been in ages. Loads of respect for the talented people who keep our devices alive.

The comment is not implied to be antagonistic but rather to question the logic and intentions set forth by the developer.
We all most certainly appreciate the passions of Pershoot and his work.
I personally thank him for answering.
When his fan base and other developers like him respect the work enough to adopt and invest in its contribution it then
Initiates itself into the hands of the global user community.
The community becomes dependant upon its completion. This is an ethical responsibility.
All reputation and notoriety is won or lost in this human principle.

Pershoot,
Thanks a million for all the amazing work you and all the other developers are doing,
If you want to change version every week I'll just say "thank you". :good:

Did you seriously just say this?
Read the post linked in my signature please.
One should never feel they become 'dependent' on whether or not a developer who is not being paid for his time and does this work for fun 'finishes' development on a ROM based on your personal standard. If you feel that way you should probably not be modding your devices in the first place. XDA does not exist so you can imply its users have an ethical responsibility to give you what you need to make your device cooler than someone else's... It exists to inspire you to learn how to do this stuff and give back. It is a hobby, not a responsibility, and you acknowledge that fact when you flash the work.
Honestly, if you want to see something done and don't feel like waiting for the developer to address your particular concern, you have two options:
1) be prepared to donate funds in the hundreds of dollars per hour to pay the dev's bills and maybe the dev will focus on your needs
2) do it yourself...no one's stopping you

+1
Really!? Really!?... And you wonder why we (developers) leave...
Pershoot has done more for this device the ANYONE ! instead of complaining, how about you say thank you and maybe send him a donation.
How to get souce code?

I want to get the 10.1 source code to compile by myself. Can you tell me how to get total source code to compile and produce zip file to flash my tab?
Thanks.

This wasn't a complaint or rant. It is a simple question and answer of completing what the developer started.
I can ask without the need for stroking theatrics..

you went from asking to a diatribe about philosophies and how I need to live up to one's expectations. put yourself in my shoes, then re-read what you wrote and the tact that was followed.
while i'm a very patient and passionate person, i only have one brain, two hands and only so much free time.
as stated prior, roll up your sleeves and start working on it. that is how you can make a difference and understand what a person like me goes through supporting X amount of users across X amount of devices.
