Froyo vs. JB - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Serious question: Froyo versus JellyBean

Ugh... jellybean of course. What else would you think froyo is good at? Except maybe how rock solid it is and how stable the froyo roms are.

I mean what are the advantages of JB.

The speed and smoothness is finally here

Jelly Bean all the way
I haven't had very much experience with Froyo, other than stock and Bionix-V FishmanMod Rom, and same goes with Jelly Bean, Helly Bean, Slim Bean and CM 10 Previews. On that note, I have had the BEST experience with Helly Bean Rom by DerTeufel1980. It's very fast because it still utilizes the /datadata partion, very smooth and my battery (1800 mAh) lasts about 36 hours with moderate use before I have to recharge it.
In comparison to Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean gives a much more enjoyable experience to our phones. Who would've thought that a 2 year old phone could become even better after all this time.
This is only my opinion so don't take my word for it. If you'd like to try Jelly Bean, you have a few choices:
1. [OFFICIAL] CyanogenMod 10 (Nightlies)
2. Helly Bean
3. Slim Bean
4. AOKP
5. RemICS-JB
6. JELLYBRO CM10 KANG build
I flashed Slim Bean earlier today and although I have to say that it did appear to be nice, it didn't seem as fast/stable as Helly Bean. I also tried the previews to the CyanogenMod10 Nightlies and still feel the same way. By the looks of it, both Slim Beam and CM10 are still having issues while HB is almost a stable release. I've been using Helly Bean since the thread started in the Development Forum and I haven't turned back since.
Try it out and see for yourself and if you don't like it you could always Odin back to Stock/Froyo.

to say in simple terms froyo is like mercedes and jelly bean is like bmw .......merc is for sheer comfort but bmw is pure power and looks.......
i prefer BMW anyway:laugh:

How did we go from ROMs to Cars lol... funny, but I like froyo it is pretty fast and stable its got a working GPS, but I just don't like the way it looks, and I gotta admit since ICS came out I love the theme, but I just can't find an stable ROM with a working GPS that is gonna work every time you want... so I'm still trying all them ROMs, but the problem is that Google is gonna keep releasing more ROMs and we will never get a ROM well done by them developers...

I used the new hardware fix for my GPS and it has helped drastically in any ROM I use. Just be very careful; I accidentally snapped the antenna and had to glue it along with a piece of copper to fix it but it's still better than what I had before.

Which GPS hardware fix? My only gripe with my current CM9 install is the borked GPS.

Go for ICS Zenwich 1.8.4 straight away if you are looking for good battery life.
+3 for Zen. I've been running is since Beat stages and no matter what I try or test, I keep going back. It is my home ICS ROM, so to speak.
Need to go here to get it. Plenty of support by the development team and more experienced users.
I also had good luck with Zen and Slim.
I installed remICS a few days ago and love it. I'm getting the best battery life since Bionix. Still have 67% after almost 24 hours. WiFi and GPS on, medium to light use. GPS works great too.
I wanna give zen a try , i just don't like all the ying and yang notification bar or the laughing Buddha. Is there an option to turn these off?
There are plenty of themes over there for it too.
+4 its the best thing going, no muss no fuss, icz 1.8.4
Laughing Budda, I never got that, dang gotta find that, just when you think your with the in crowd...this..slight
To me the best ICS Rom out there right now is " ICS ROM 4.0.4 RemICS v1.2 BETA from (Team Remics)"

Most stable vibrant rom?

I've tried numerous roms from froyo to jelly bean, but can't seem to find anything completely stable. Can anyone help me with this?

I had great results with Bionix V (froyo). I don't use GPS, so I cannot comment on that personally. Other people reportedly had no problems.
It uses the Bali kernel, and it had ridiculous battery life.
I tested a different phone for like 19 days, and left it on in a drawer on airplane mode and it wasn't dead yet when I went back and got it out.
However, I use Helly Bean 8/12 build right now and have had no issues whatsoever. Like I said though, I don't use GPS. I know there are issues with that.
The Cyanogenmod 7.2 would probably be the most stable I imagine. I'm always amazed at the speed and battery life when I tell myself I'm not doing any beta roms for a while.
iczen all the way it was only rom to have excellent gps as well as battery backup........ics passion is also nice but it is old ........for 2.2 bionix is awsome ........none of the gingerbread roms are good for daily use ...

I'm using Bionix now and it's extremely laggy. The battery life is good, but that's about it. I even redownloaded and reflashed it a couple of times to make sure. I'm not really a fan of Jelly Bean for this device, I may try out Helly Bean though. Thanks!:good:

In recovery is voodoo lagfix turned on? This ROM absolutely flew for me... it was starting to bog down right before I switched to HB, but I ran it for several lag-free months prior to switching.
For me, Bionix (fishmanmod) is the most stable of all. Battery life is excellent. WiFi calling works and GPS locks in <20 seconds. I've never experienced lag. (Make sure voodoo lagfix is on).
I'm running a nightly from CM9 and it works like a dream. I think mine is the 20120423 nightly. It doesn't have GPS, but I have a GPS in my car already, and that's the only place I would need a GPS anyways.

JB vs ICS performace

Hi.
I'm currently running Chimera rom and Subzero kernel on my vibrant. It's pretty good, but it does bog down once in a while.
I was wondering what the performance difference would be switching to a JB rom? How much worse would it be (or would it somehow be better?). Which JB rom is the best for daily use?
Thanks
I think jb is better than ics
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
One thing that lags is the gps and from my experience slim bean is better fast light smooth

hi,
I dunno exact differences between ICS and JB ..but probably JB will have some performance tweaks with related to ICS..[thought : b/c it came later ]
Nyway I suggest ICZen ROM with sub-zero kernal (it already come with it ) as a great ICS ROM out there. Some peeps find the theme bit "UNLIKE" but there are plenty of them u can switch to
tc
Your experience with Jelly Bean can vary a lot depending on the ROM and kernel you choose to flash. Chimera was very laggy and slow for me in even basic tasks (like switching between messaging and a media player), so I jumped right into JB ROMs when I discovered them. While ROMs like Skang (Jellybro Kang build) and Paranoid felt about as slow and laggy as Chimera, Helly Bean and Slim Bean feel much lighter and faster.
I think the kernels mattered a bit more than the ROM itself. After flashing the Devil kernel to any ROM I've tried, I've noticed a definite improvement in speed and smoothness. For the sake of stability, though, I've opted for the Semaphore kernel on my Slim Bean 2.4 setup. This has been my perfect go-to combo lately, and I highly recommend it.

[Q] The most stable ICS ROM?

Just flat out, what is it?
Ice Cream Zenwich.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app
Stability is in the eyes of the user.
However, I would suggest ICzen, or RemICS-UX
I have tried all and overall speed wise, stability and the good looks will be Chimera v2.2 from Nelson and team passion
I would suggest ICzen too
This may sound crazy, but Doc's Master ICS ROM v.11 won it for me back when I was on 4.0. You could try the two 12.x releases, but the kernel switch didn't handle too well with my phone, so I went back to Version 11 up until last week when I went to JB. It's quick, snappy, and the black theme looks sweet. Even out of all the ROMs I've used, as far as looks and cool-factor goes, this was my FAVORITE. Besides that, the black theme makes conserves your battery life like crazy. :good:
1. Chimera 2.2
2. Iczen
both are very good ICS roms

choice
I too liked doc masters ics but the EU bug scared me off so I went back to GB until jb came out so now I am on black bean and loving it! I have also tried helly and cm10 but black bean def fav.

Your Favorite ICS/JB ROM?

What is your favorite Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean ROM? Is it stable too?
I've downloaded a few ROMS and none of them have been up to my expectations.
I've used:
CM10 A2
Paranoid Android
CM10 is the most stable JB ROM we have right now. Not sure what your expectations are, but it's not likely for there to ever be any *truly* stable and 100% functioning ICS/JB ROMS for this phone. If you want stability and functionality, you'll have to stick with GB.

I'm not a fan of the stock GB. I need my DX2 until April, so i'm looking for something I can use with almost all functionality. I've given CM10 a go but theres a few features I need that arent stable enough. I got bored of using eclipse, and i'm not liking MIUI right now.
Sorry for being picky, lol.
I am currently running CM10 Alpha 2 and, as mentioned above, it is very stable. It is also my daily driver. Every once and awhile there are a few quirks, but that's to be expected.

I'll give it another run I guess. I just need to watch my battery because i find myself charging 3 times a day with it.
I think the problem is that you have "expectations" lol. These ROMs are never going to be perfect like they are on other devices. The core of these ROMs and this phone is still Gingerbread so its pretty much like running Windows 8 on a computer that is only meant for windows XP. It will not be perfect. (best analogy I could think of. lol). Basically, we should be lucky to even have ICS or Jelly Bean because Motorola has decided to just keep our DX2 on Gingerbread.
That said, I am running Jelly Bean AOKP. There are issues that some may find to be a deal breaker. But its easy to live with it when you learn how to work around them.
