I've gotten a hold of the radio for the new 8/29 OTA, but I'm holding off on flashing them because I don't want to brick my device. I've looked around different websites and no one seems to give a straightforward answer. Can someone tell me if this is safe and the risks I'm running if I flash the new radio.
I've flashed the new radios on AOKP and everything is running just fine, you should be OK by flashing the radios on CM10 because flashing radios aren't ROM dependent. As long as your S-Off you'll be alright

I think you need to be S-OFF to flash radios but I could be wrong you should ask in the Captain Throwbacks radio thread
EDIT: Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704612

I tried it and got nothing. I think the reason is because the dumlock only gives you access to the boot partition. I'm pretty sure the radios are in a different partition. Looks like I'll have to wait for an exploit. I was a little late to root so I'm on hboot 1.15

Well hopefully it works out for you I'm sure these Devs will find a way around it
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
If you are on boot 1.15 and son you can't flash radios. Only way to do it would be to ruu.
And you don't want that

Great you can flash roms. You do realize you are using 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 which ever you flashed last. Please tell me you don't think you are using both roms at the same time.
Hahaha yeah I know I'm not using them at the same time, I was on a 2.3.4 rom then I flashed a 2.3.3 rom, I didn't think u could go back and forth ,just one or the other.

Yeah i never knew you could do that cause I took the newest ota and I have hboot 1.50 and unlocked my phone through HTC
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Yeah some great Dev's here, cant wait to try out the 2.3.4 kernel when someone completes one!
No kidding seems like every week something new comes out
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Were you s-off before you took the ota?? You may be able to flash a 2.3.3 rom, but you won't be able to flash the kernel so the rom may not fully work. Most people that try find out wifi won't work along with other problems. The hboot 1.5 won't let you write to certain system partitions and the kernel is one of those.
Yeah I was s-off b4 I took the OTA, then I did the HTC unlock method when it finished it didn't reboot so I took the battery out and went into recovery and it said unlocked in the pink banner and s-off lol seems like I ghetto rooted my phone. Never had any problems flashing anything yet
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
That's why your able to flash older roms, you were already s-off. All others that started out with hboot 1.5 and used HTC's unlocker can't flash 2.3.3 roms and have everything work right because they can't install a 2.3.3 kernel. Since you were already s-off you must still have write capability to those locked partitions.
Well that makes sense thanks cruise for your info
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Have you been able to flash a 2.3.5 ROM. I see that some newer ROMs are being built on that?
Yeah I can flash 2.3.5 roms it will be sweet when they get sound working

my girlfriend's phone just told her that there is an update available she has the latest software and hboot 1.5. The update is 9.3 mb. Does anyone know what this is? I downloaded it on her 3D, she is not unlocked or rooted. I rooted my 3D via 1.5 S-on HTC method. Is there a way to take it apart and analyze it. Heard rumors of random ota that revert hboot.

She still on 2.08 ? Why not update to 2.17 ? Then take root? The latest ota is 2.17 which updates a bit of stuff and removes the CIQ thingy....
Is there anything possibly in this that will help get s off? It is update. Maybe some clues. Can I upload the file via the XDA app?

I doubt it the guy that said he had a update of the such wasn't true...
His phone was a previously owned device that had S-off already the store sold him one that was returned in that 14day period...
So it was already rooted prior to him buying it.. With S-off lets you do some more playin around... The person that owned it before him had rooted it with the REV method on root... So that was how he been boucing back and forth on the hboot thing...

From what I read newer radios offer better reception all the other stuff. I prefer to stay on the latest updates that come out. Really can't break a radio down in difference. Newer generally better .

There is other ways to update.. I prefer to wipe not the SD. Then RELOCK and use the lateset RUU 2.17 CDMA exe then redo the unlock code and flash a recovery then
fastboot boot recovery.img and wipe and flash rom

From what i heard , you dont need to relock or unroot then re-unlock, then re-root. You can just flash stock recovery and take the update, if bootloader gets locked then unlock it again.
I might be wrong but thats what i have heard.....i mean read.

So I'm s-off wire trick, jbear hboot 1.5 I believe?, I'm wondering should I update to the lates radios firmware hboot etc....or am I already not sure, what are the benefits? I'm seeing a lot of roms requiring updated stuff
Thanks you guys are great
I just read something about jbear 1.58? Mine says jbear1.5 I thought after the wire trick it flashed 1.58 or is there in updated one

I personally am running the latest firmware and radios since as you said, many roms are calling for them. I used the one from Freeza without the hboot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26563118
I would also downgrade to hboot1.4 since all ROMs boot on it except for those running the newest stock kernel (which most aren't by default).

As far as the hboot do u have a link as well? And I just rename it put on ad card and get to bootloader?
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
Ramjet posted them all here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30014044
The rest of the thread has good info about the different hboot versions that mpgrimm wrote, so you may want to red it.
Oh, and yes, rename to PG86IMG.zip, and boot into bootloader. This holds for both the hboot and freeza's firmware zip.

You will keep s-off. The bootloader may say Locked, but that's irrelevant since still being s-off is what's important. You don't need to unlock.

How do I make an RUU rooted? Meaning I keep the custom hboot and recovery. I'm s-off. I flashed the latest global RUU a while back after being on clean Rom for a while, and hated having to push the hboot and amon ra recovery again. I'm running Newts one XxX 3.2.1 now and I love it, but I just want to remember what stock was like I guess lol. Maybe so I can appreciate the devs more. Can I just delete the hboot***file, boot_signed.IMG and recovery_signed.img files from the ph98img.zip and all be good? Or will it bootloop or possibly brick my phone.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Yes you can do that, just removing the recovery will do the trick. If you remove the boot from it, it will bootloop. That should keep you rooted and keep your current recovery. Be sure to unzip the zip file, then remove it, then re zip it up and run it
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Thank you. So I leave the hboot in the .zip as well? Won't that flash over the custom hboot and remove the fastboot option?

Is there a back to stock method for the 1.58 hboot for the Htc evo v 4g? Or could I just get away with flashing a stock unrooted rom and the stock recovery? I might have to get a replacement evo v 4g because I'm pretty sure I'm having a hardware malfunction so in which case I'll have to send the current one I have back. So any help would be appreciated.
