Hello there,
At first, sorry for my bad English.
I have a Xperia Neo V. Now it is running ICS 4.0.4.
But back when it was running GB 2.3.4., and when I conected it with PC via USB cable, by default it only connected for battery charging - no data connection. I always had to click on the upper menu to activate the data connection - what, for me, is the ideal scenario, because with that scenario, I didn't had to worry about viruses or data damage when plugging my device on any computer to battery-charging purposes.
But now, with ICS, everytime I plug my phone on a PC USB port (mostly for charge purposes) it automatically turns on the data connection (either MTP mode or MSC mode, desn't matter), what I do not want to do. How can I configure my phone under ICS 4.0.4 to make its SDcard / memory data unaccessable by PC until I want to?
Hope you can understand my crap English, and help me on this issue.

Well my phone connects to my pc as soon as I plug in the USB. Happens in both GB and ICS.
You might want to go into USB settings and figure it out. Not sure about ICS settings at the moment, sorry.

?
Yes as i know ics connects sd with both ways.
But at MSC when connected touch the notification it will disconect sd card.
Also what are you worrying for viruses.
Android has no virus...( at least it doesn't share them with windows.)
It's built in to android (ICS). You can't change it.

First of all - sorry for bad english.
Few days ago I've found a problem - I can't connect my phone to PC via USB cable. When I connect - phone is just charging but no debug, no usb-sign in statusbar, no reaction from PC companion, nothing except charging.
When I trying connect with SEUS - I need to go in bootloader-mode, but I can't do this because PC doesn't see my phone anyway...
I've tried two usb-cables and three different laptops with Win 7, 8 and XP - result was same - nothing.
MicroUSB looks like new one. I can't repair software because can't connect to PC, I've already make hard-reset with android settings - no results.
Someone know what to do? In my town no Sony service, may have a solution that does not require service? Some hidden setting or whatever else..
Firmware ICS stock CE (.544)
Try clearing data and cache of mtpapp in settings-applications-management application -all
Then reboot, wait for 5minutes(literally) with locked screen and then retry connecting with pc...
Make sure u first connect usb into pc and then in your phone..

I don't see any mtpapp here... maybe some another names? Here is only "MTP extension service" with 0Kb cache and data. Trying change language to eng, maybe it's translated.
I`ve had a usb connectivity problem while my xperia p was on ThJap kernel.
I`ve used SUS reinstall the stock firmware, problem gone

Try to connect your device in Mass storage mode instead of MTP.
Goto Settings - Storage, Press menu button, select USB computer connection - enable Mass storage.
Now connect your phone to pc and feel the difference.

Fantastic mate thanks a lot for that!
Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum, i have gone through a number of post to understand how to root and flash my tab 7500 with pershoot's EXPERIMENTAL ROM. After I install everything in the tablet is working fine but when I connect to pc it is not detecting as a storage device. But the tablet is charging when I am connecting to PC (This was new, it never charged with previous official ICS). I tried recovering to my previous official ICS by recover option in CWM. Then tab is getting detected by PC and it is not in charging mode.
Is this some issue with the firmware? Or am i missing something simple? Please help me out..
I have tried searching for this issue on internet but couldn't get any useful info regarding that.
I am experincing same issue, but with ics stock ROM, which I have flashed from 3.2 stock rom. When I connect the cable to pc, tablet does the sound, but won't start the mtp server, and computer cant see it.
Problem solved
Seems like this is a small setting that needs to be selected.
Go to Settings>Storage>USB Computer Connection and check MTP checkbox.
After I did that my system is detecting it as a storage device and also charging it
@kosciCZ : You might also want to check that setting.

I am afraid that this is not that case. I checked it multiple times, tried the other option, but it still does nothing.
GTP7510MAYXAR wont connect to pc, usb not recognized. In odin mode it does the same. Pc doesnt have bluetooth either.
When inserting a usb female connector it does say usb connection, but the usb flash drives did not show. Tablet
also charges healthy.
I want to root this, install clockwork recovery, flash rom to jb 4.2.2, but without the help of that pc i am stuck on 4.04 stock.
Bought this from someone so no previous exp with this device.
Any way to root and install recovery with tablet alone itself?
Thank you for your time:laugh:
Maybe I'm underestimating your experience, but you can try this to see whether USB storage works:
Go to Settings -> Storage -> the 3-lined menu button at the top right corner -> USB PC connection -> Media device (MTP)
I wish this can help. if you have further questions we are here to help at any time.
Good luck!

Ofcourse i tried it hihi:highfive:
But i am starting to think its faulty hardware as no one has any idea about the issue
I actually bought mine in the exact same condition. It would not work on usb no matter what i did also a few other 'bugs' I thought it was a faulty cable but it turned out to be corrupted files on the rom.
Long story short, reatoring the tab to factory via ODIN fixed everything.

Well, you could use mobile ODIN or Rom Manager. However, you need to be able to pull the backup you're going to make before you install that custom rom off of the device. Using USB is a simple way of doing that. It's possible to get it off over WiFi, but you really should fix the USB.
Hello Everyone,
I was worndring if it is in some how possible to upgrade my GT-I9070 from gingerbread 2.3.6 to Kitkat or other custumized rom without having to use odin.

Not unless you are already rooted. Does the PC not recognize that you have plugged it in at all or does it just not load the drivers correctly? Best way to tell is to open your Device Manager and plug in the phone. the DM should reload and show something, whether an error or not. If it does not blink out and reload when you plug / unplug the phone, then it's either a hardware issue with the phone's USB port, a bad cable, or bad USB port on PC. And it is possible for a phone to charge correctly, but have issues connecting to a computer if the data pins are messed up. If it IS the phone's port, the repair isn't that bad and could be handle with some patience and simple tools as this one does not involve soldering. You'd need this:

You won't find a better guide than that, that guy is amazing at teardowns.

Dude really thankful,
As you say, the PC dosn't recognize that the phone is plugged at all, I try all the usb port on my laptop, different cable, and even different laptop and the same problem keep comming up.
I tried also to reboot in odin mode to see if my laptop detecet anything, but nada, nothing in the DM.
Also, like you expect, it can charge but no data connection, and whene it turned off and I plug it it automaticly turned on by itself.
I pretty convinced that it usb port is screwed.
So, to install a rom my phone have to be rooted!! no way to root it from the recovery mode?!
Thanks again

You can try to clean your USB port of the phone with some compressed air, in case some pocket lint got in there too. Doesn't take much to mess these things up, unfortunately. But yea, I doubt there is a way to root it in the stock recovery as most Samsung phones don't have this option. It'd take less time to just fix it probably then figuring out how to jump through all the other hoops to find a way around it.
