Why does my phone keep opening swype? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Since I got the new OTA my phone has been picking Swype as my default keyboard. Is there a solution to this besides disabling it?
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app

Yeah, should just be able to go into settings and change your default keyboard

Well if u dont care for using swype, just uninstall it. Use a file browser and delete the apk

Isn't it installed as a system app on the stock ROM? That would require root to remove
I thought it came with it.
Maybe not though. I never used it.

New Android Market

The new market is much much better looking than the old one.
Here is the link to the .apk file of the market. Just download and install it as any other app.
http://www.multiupload.com/PNTKMUYQUM
If you're having problems after installing it (I did not have any problem) or you don't like it. Goto Settings>>Applications>>from the upper tab choose All App>>go to market app and click on Uninstall updates. This should get you back to the old Market.
Thanks for the link. It takes a sec to get used to, but looks pretty slick.

question : 1. this release of android market stops the update process if installed on stock 2.3.3GB?
2. Android market will auto-update to this new version or it is available only for some countries? I live in Romania for example.
thank you

This update will be rolled out to all countries and has been released in very few countries (I think only some carriers in US and Canada).
Regarding your first question, I don't think so, but you can never be sure until the next update is released.

I think it cannot break the updates bcoz the market updater is a separate app, not within the vending apk.

so do you think it is possible to have a problem with market updater ?

Im using Mik_os's CM7, I know I need to flash the gapps to set up an account so I assume Im answering my own question, but with just installing this new market apk, it asked me to set up an account but didnt take me to set up an account just went to the homescreen, do I need to install gapps for cm7 than use this new apk as an updater ?
Works fine, but I see (?) Japanese text in app info tab for some apps (eg. Facebook app). But, my system language settings is english. Will be difficult to know about the app.

Except that it isn't, because you have to disable the currently installed Swype in order to install the new one. You can't do that without deleting it, which in turn requires that you be rooted.

Which if you would have read his post you would see that he said his phone is rooted. all he would need to do is delete or rename the swype apk.

I guess my question is where do I delete the swype file(s) from?
Swype.apk is in system/app

That worked. Thanks!

I did read his post. I also read your post. I actually comprehended both of them. My reply was intended to point out that you do, in fact, have to delete the old before you bring in the new, which was entirely missing from your concise list of rock 'n roll.
Questions been answered. Can we please move on

Oh, just for anyone else doing this you also need to delete libSwypeCore.so from /system.lib
I used root explorer to do this. Swype forceclosed on me when I did a reboot but had not deleted the libswypecore so I'm hoping this was the problem.

Uninstall Swype

Is there a way to uninstall Swype from your vibrant without rooting it?
Thanks

Not that I know of. I uninstalled mine by using root explorer and searching for every file with swype in its name. Then, deleting those files and rebooting.

curious, why uninstall? Such a small file I cant imagine it is a space thing.
trying to get the beta?
the only way i know of to remove swype off our stock device is via root since it's considered a system application. rooting is really easy, though by your OP your really not interested in doing so. but should you decide to root, theres an update.zip on the top post of this forum located in the stickied thread, or just check the signature of the guy above me since he wrote the guide,
should you decide to root, just grab Titanium Backup off the android market (free) and remove swype with it. Good luck!
yes, the space isn't the issue, im just trying to get the beta. thanks!
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I tried the beta, and it is almost the same as the stock (just a few theme changes). Also, the suggestion bar is now horizontal (and there indefinitely - which I find annoying, as I prefer the previous behavior where it would only show when it did not know the word).
It's not possible because there are lib files which you need to delete to fully uninstall it. The easiest way would be:
1. Root
2. Download the Nitrality app
3. Uninstall stock Swype thru the app (very easy to do)
4. I'm sure you can figure out how to get the Swype beta as I figure you already have an apk for it

Replacing Messaging App

I know how to change the defaults that is not my issue.
I came from the first Galaxy S running crayogen ICS and the messaging app on that is way better than the Samsung one, it just sucks.
I tired installing the apk from the crayogen rom but I keep getting an error.
When I try I get the this is a system app are you sure you want to continue and replace it. I then select install and just get a error Application not installed.
So I used root explorer, found the default samsung app, renamed it, copied over the other app with the same name and installed it from within the system folder and it worked, so it is now working but it doesn't look the same as it did on my old phone.
Any help?
This is the XT9 message app with dark background thy this install just like you did b4
couldn't get that one to work for some reason, did the same thing and kept getting unable to install error
Try Go SMS Pro?
I use GO SMS Pro also and its awesome! You are correct...The stock messaging app is god awful!
I use Handcent and it's way better than stock.
Instead of renaming the secmms.apk, make a copy and pt it on your sdcard. Delete it from your system/app folder, push the new apk to system/apk.
Reboot. It should bout to the Android is updating screen if it worked.

Thanks for that, but it still didn't work it defaults to the app but it still isn't working correctly and doesn't look like the old app I use to have and when I open settings it always crashes.
What I have done is disabled the default messaging app in settings, installed GoSms and using that as the default. Its not bad and better to adapt to but still miss the CyanogenMod messaging app I had on the I9000
Thanks for the replys
Have you modded the app at all? You might have to sign it before it will install/work
Name it Mms.apk

[Q] HTC issue or ???

Background:
Stock not rooted
Latest firmware

Ok so everyone knows that you should be able to install .apk if you set to allow. I'm able to with other .apk and don't have issues normally.
My question is, do I need root to get the 4.4 keyword, launcher etc to work?
Ideas on steps I can take while still stock. I have no problem rooting. Just haven't got around to it.
Sent from my EVO using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
So launcher won't work as Google search keeps crashing when I attempt to enable the new 4.4 launcher.
So I'm going to just root it and go that route to enable it that way. Keyboard isn't working either while stock and not or rooted either.
