2 amp charger. Good quality, short USB cable.
Or do like me and carry extra batteries. 20 sec full charge

Airplane mode or turn it off completely and charge from there. It its a huge battery that takes time. Could also try to use a higher mAh charger. I use a 2.1 mA charger and while using Bluetooth stereo and streaming music I charge 1% a minute

Yep, the second battery makes me not worry about this power eater.

Stand is a bit useless with this massive Commuter case, but still handy to carry.
A CHARGE ONLY cable is necessary to get the full 960mA the phone will accept.

+1 for the Nexus 7 charger. It charges my note amazingly fast...it really does seem to do it 1.5-2x quicker.
The stock one does this too. Well let me test it now. @6% and leavingphone on not using. 5 % atvplug in
Edit
Sorry meant itcchages in 2 hours. Just got it plugged in at 6:18.

Edit: took 3 hours to charge from 5%. So was wrong on that. Usually don't let it get to 5% and use the wall charger as i just put another battery in. Must have been remembering charging from a higher percent (15-20%).

You will be sruprised if you use a current monitor. I only have used "Current Widget". You will be surprised how many chargers and cables charge below 1/2 amp while others charge at almost an amp. You can test all of your chargers and cables this way. For example I have a wall charger with a long cable, with what looks like very small wires, suggesting a low charge, but it actually charges at 1000 ma, much better than some really short cables i have. Also apparently if the data signal is shorted in the cable or in the charger it will tell the phone to charge near an amp.
I also have a charger in my car that has a usb connection that says 1a and 2.1a. The 1 amp charges at almost 1 amp while the 2.1a charges at a 1/2 amp. If you dont use the amp app to see this you would never know and be charging your phone at the slower rate
Just for clarification 1a(amp) = 1000 ma(milliamp), 1/2a = 500 ma

I didnt use a formula. I downloaded the widget from the play store "current widget". I dont think there is anything we do. The only little bug that i know of with it, is it displays for example 9993 ma, when it reall is 999ma. There is no way it could be 10 amps. The numbers might not be right but they appear to relative to different chargers, cables length etc

You can get a 2amp charger but the kernel must support fast charging.
Even then i dont think full charge within an hour is possible.
Thanks for the respond.... But not to use with the phone only for the battery. I have a seperate charger for the extra battery but it feels like it takes forever. I do rate it over the phone charger though because if I fully charge the battery with my phone and I take it out and place it on the external charger it shows that It still have around 10 to 15min left to complete charging... I beleive it's correct because it seems to last longet than charging with the phone!!!!

Not trying to revive this post, but noticed people are looking for a fast charger. I have a Touchpad and use the charger to charge my Note. It charges much faster than the OEM.
It is a 2+amp charger. It says 2amp on the label. I tried to charge my Touchpad on a Ipad charger (also 2amps) and the Touchpad said gave a warning saying it will take longer to charge. So I assume the Touchpad charger is 2.5amp. (max allowed for FCC)
Long story short, its on sale for only $4.99. Go get it!

Both the AC wall wart that comes with the Note (I assume that's what you mean by "the OEM") and the HP TouchPad AC charger will charge the Note at 1 A. One is not faster than the other.

No, this is because the iPad charger is wired up to supply 2 A only via the proprietary iPad connector. If you connect it to a micro USB device (like the Touchpad or the Note), you will not get 2 A. You will probably only get 0.5 A, which is the USB standard. That causes the TP to display the warning you saw.
Thanks guys but I still didn't get the answer I was looking for. I'm looking for a universal wall charger that could charge batteries by itself but at a faster pace!!

No. The Note (and most current Samsung hardware) is limited at just over 1A. I'm using a 3A charger with a change-only cable and my Note can only charge at ~1.1A according to CurrentWidget. Without charge-only cable it's half an amp at best.

Well Charging seemed very quick but the CurrentWidget showed charging from 1A to 8A. Listed on their Google play page they say that Samsung probably isn't supported.
The electric current reading doesn't work on all devices. The reason is that the manufactures (mostly Motorola and Samsung) don't support this in the battery driver or in the hardware.

Also Sorry for the large pics.
OP, I did some amazoning (new phrase, you like?) and here are a couple options I've found:
OEM Sammy charger: Dunno the charging speeds, but probably 1.1A like the chargers that come with our phones.
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Battery-Charger-2500mAh-Included/dp/B0076Z3FSQ/
Also there's this charger/dock:
It uses a 1A wall wart and here's the catch it's mentioned it charges both the phone and battery at the same time so it would split the power, I don't know if it'll shuffle the power around when only one battery needs a charge.
http://www.amazon.com/Hyperion-Samsung-Compatible-international-Packaging/dp/B006QBKTCG/
Long story short, the best you're probably going to get is a 1A charger, most aftermarket units I've seen are charging between 300mha to 400mha.

I've never got off-the-wall amperage #'s like that on my OG Note. I know it's accurate because the Samsung OEM wall charger is 1amp and my phone shows 1100~mA when plugged in. It shows the same #'s when plugged in to my 3amp car charger with charge-only cable.

I leave my phone charged to 100% almost all the time:
- when I am at work I leave it plugged to the USB port
- when I am working at home, the phone is connected to the USB port
- when I am driving the phone is connected to the vehicular charger
- when I go to bed, if the phone is below 70%, I leave it plugged on the wall charger overnight.
Yet, when I am on long bike rides and the 3G+ data + GPS + synch are enabled, I still get excellent battery times.
Over charging any battery isn't very good for it, it's the same with laptops and well pretty much anything, so long as power is coming in the battery will take it, even if it is at a slower rate.
Ideally you would want it to charge to 100% and then a little bit more, maybe 20 mins, to make sure.
However i know we don't live in an ideal world and charging it overnight is the only thing that can be done by most users.
In my work we have a lot of phones plugged in all the time (all brands) and they have some strange effects happening, eg: Unresponsive touchscreen (removing the charger solves this), Poor battery life, glitchy screen etc.
Saying that, all of our phones are plugged in all of the time so it is an extreme situation.
If your worried about it then get a timed plug so it only charges for a few hours and then cuts off.
But you should be fine otherwise.
Just feel the charger when the phone's at 100% and it's giving off a f**k load of heat because the phone isn't actually taking anymore charge and the charger turns the reduced MAH it draws into heat in the charger, so just don't worry about it because the phone does all the work for you and can't go over a full charge.
My phone stops charging at 100%.

I remember reading the circuity that allows a proper charge is specific to Samsung chargers.

Yeah you can use any Micro USB cable or charger as long as it outputs no more than 1000mah.
I thought a higher output was "good" in that it reduces the charging time.
Could you please explain why one must take into account a limit?
Conversely, is a low output harmful: how about charging from a laptop USB port?
Also, I have a HTC One X. Can I use the Samsung charger with it: how do I find out the output limit for the One X?

A higher current can damage the battery and possibly the phone and some people say the phone at any current above 1500mah but still haven't seen any proof yet, and you can probably get away with 1300mah but the more you the the hotter the battery gets then slowly expands and might pop, and yes you can use the HTC charger no problem but check any charger you use for output current wrote on charger, and also yes you can charge from a laptop or any really slow charger you like.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the Samsung phones block excessive current and can accept up to 1amp. Also when using any charger that doesn't have the middle cables short-circuited would produce 500milliamps regardless of charger's output(this can be turned off with custom kernel). That's why there is a list of car chargers on gsII or Note forums that have the pins shorted. That said, people had reported that using HP touchpad cuts down in charging time while increasing heat.
I am looking into this a little more and some useful info I found.
My GT-I9300 charger outputs 1000mA @ 5V. The phone charges up quickly. No problem there.
When using a USB port on my Macbook Air (2012 model), under About This Mac > More Info... > System Report... > Hardware > USB > bottom USB High-Speed Bus Hub listed: I see that 500mA are avail from the USB 2.0 port (conforming with USB 2.0 standard specs), but the GT-I9300 is only requesting/ drawing 96mA, whether I am using the original Samsung USB cable which came with the phone or my favorite short Jawbone ERA USB to microUSB shorter cable.

It just takes much longer to charge.
My One X (S720E) draws the full 500mA avail from the port:
It should be noted that some Apple peripherals/ devices (iPhone, iPad etc.) can request and get an additional 500mA from the port on computers/ monitors that supports this.
Here is the Apple Support Article that covers this.
Pretty much everything uses Lithium-Ion these days, and it's perfectly safe to leave overnight, heck I even upped the AC charge voltage to a straight-up 1200 on AC power.
Charging at lower powers is equally harmless, but if you use the phone you may drain faster than it can charge.
All in all, thse rumors about decreasing battery life are getting sillier and sillier these days. Earlier batteries were a bit finicky, but they have improved A LOT, and honestly, a new samsung battery costs 25 dollars? If I'm still using this device in 3-4 years when the battery finally gives out I'll be very surprised.

It looks pretty good!!!!!! but I charge my Note3 with the original charger (2A/5v). Thanks for your post.
The original stock charger 5.3V 2.0A is the fastest, it was made for the note 3, even a 5V 2.0A will be slightly slower.
Do also note that the cable plays an important part in the charging time especially in my case where I'm using a third party cable and charger.
Using the following app, it can show how much current it's currently charging. Here mine, post yours if higher then mine. Can someone post the screenshot using the original samsung usb cable and charger as a reference too?

Just got my Note 3. It charges at 1800mAh on the stock charger (see pic).
It's weird though, because my Galaxy S4 charges at 1900mAh on its stock charger. I assumed that with USB 3.0, the Note 3 would somehow charge at a faster rate.

Thanks for the info. I tried charging with a third party USB3.0 cable and a third party charger and it did reaches to 1800mAh.
Using USB3.0 and USB2.0 cable does make a-bit of difference.
The upcoming Oppo Find 7 have this 4.5A charger that provide a technology call VOOC charging.

You are right. USB 3.0, the latest version of USB (Universal Serial Bus), provides better speed and more efficient power management than USB 2.0. USB 3.0 is backward compatible with USB 2.0 devices; however, data transfer speeds are limited to USB 2.0 levels when these devices inter-operate.
From my experience with Sony's charging dock on the Tablet Z, I found that it charged quite slowly as compared to a usb connected charge. I would see an overnight charge which is roughly 8 hours to only charge 30% to 85% whereas a direct usb charge would give a full charge within an hour and a half. Just wondering cause I've ordered the Z2 and hoped that the dock wouldn't be such a bad experience cause I don't want to bother with the flaps unless I have to.
I picked up a generic dock from Amazon. Seems to be 'straight through' connections, so chargers as fast as the charger will allow...

The magnetic charging port is definitely slower but mine still charges in a few hours on the dock next to my bed(not sure how many amps the wall adapter is). In my car it seems about the same off the 2 amp charger(so I assume the other is only 1-1.5 amp) with much heavier drain(bright screen, BT streaming, navigation, etc.).

A lot will depend on the quality of the cable as well. I have the no name dock from amazon and it is slow to charge with the supplied short cable but very quick with the Sony one

It depends on the charger and the cable, to charge a 3200 MAH battery for the z2
a minimum 2 amp charger and 38 pin cable is definitely a must !
My magnetic charging port charges at a rate of 1% every 1 1/2 mins, 2 1/2 hours for full charge according to my battery stats which seem about right.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I just can't wait to get the phone. I've been on the fence with it for some time now between the Z2 and the S5 (now the S5 Active that just came out). I just wanted a change and the two devices kinda broke even with specs and reviews for me. :highfive:
anyone yet been that crazy to use a 3A charger? Snapdragon S801 should be capable of that.

I picked up a generic dock from Amazon. Seems to be 'straight through' connections, so chargers as fast as the charger will allow...

I did the same, but it takes all night to get 80% whereas the direct USB takes a couple of hours to 100%
Now after i got the dock (cheap one from Ebay) i do have the same Problem!
Takes 7hours to charge from 0% to 75%
using Stock rom + Doomkernel v9
Ookay... I just connected the Mulitmeter between smartphone and dock (it's a hassle.... Hacked USB cable would be nice....)
The official Sony wallcharger (1.5A) is charging the dock and Smartphone with 800-850mA.
I tried Doomkernels Fastcharge and forced constant AC =roughly 1300mA.
Strangly when I set it to 1500 or 2000 in Faux app it falls back to 800mA.
The battery was 85% charged when I made those tests.

I thought fastcharge applied only to micro usb port
Yesterday I got a non original docking station from Amazon.de (€9,40 + delivery costs) - from 42% to 95% chargin time was 1h55min.
please visit this thread:

Yeah,,,, so.... i made a reallife test!
Set FauxApp to "Constant AC" in FastCharge options.
in 5 hours it charged 16% xD 3.2% Per hour.
Then after that i set to "Custom" 1200mA
Charged from 76% to 100% in 3.5hours
tonight i'm trying to empty the phone (Unreal Epic Citadel might be a good idea, or maybe GFXbenchmark Battery Test....) and set to Custom 1500mAh and see what happens.

So.... anyone has one of those QuickCharge 2.0 Adapters Mentioned here ?
https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/quick-charge
i wonder if it would charge faster than the Sony 1.5A charger.
edit:
Phew... dem chargers! 18W and 30W editions!
5V 4A
9V 2.2A
12V 2.5A
20V 1A
Quick charge 2.0 does only use 9V sporadically doesn't it ?
Edit2: and 9V 4A .... wow
I wish. I could do charging in 90 minutes. It takes twice as that now.
Thinking on getting one of these...

I got one for my Idol 3. It works just fine...HOWEVER:
1) It is a slow charge vs. the USB cable (2-3 times slower).
2) Heats up the battery pretty quickly and gets pretty hot
3) Really inconvenient if you only have one wireless charging station and have to charge in the car or something
4) Tore mine because it was flimsy and I needed to charge using a cable (see #3).
Over all recommendation, yes, get it, it's fun to have wireless charging. BUT if you're going to be removing the plug everyday and switch between wireless charging and USB cable, be forewarned of what could happen.

Personally I feel the USB cable, with the included wall adapter, is STILL an extremely slow charge. That's one thing I dislike about this phone. The battery seems to take forever to charge just 5%. My phone was at about 60% one day and I decided to plug it in and went under battery and it said 4 more hours until full charge. 4 hours to charge just 40%? I wish Alcatel added the Quick Charge feature since the Snapdragon 615 it uses is capable of doing so.
Mine charges from about 25% to 100% in about 2 hours using included wall adapter with Dollar Tree USB cable (longer).
4 hours? That's a really long time. I charge mine using a sorts of chargers laying around and from nearly depleted to full, maybe 2.5hours max. :-/
The quality of your USB cable will affect the charge time. Cheaper cables contain less copper. I just replaced my ebay cables with branded, and the charge time for all my devices is much improved. The new cables were still under 2 GBP.
Thanks for the replies. I'm using a 6' charging cable from a brand called Xtreme bought at FiveBelow. Guess I'll start searching for a Samsung one or something.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I am using a USB cable from Dollar Tree. Can't get much cheaper than that. It charges just fine, from 25% to 100% is about 2 hours. The original cable that came with the Idol was not faster and it was too short for my use.
Charging cable deal five for $5.49

Your connector must be damaged, mine charges 1% per minute until it starts it's trickle charge cycle around 80%.

Actually it was just my charging cable that was the problem. I bought a new Anker charger and it charges the phone 10 times faster now. Really relieved that it wasn't something with the phone itself.

daft question maybe - will it still fit in a case?

Fairly certain you'll need a case to be able to use it since there's no removable back on the Idol 3 so you'll need a case to hold it in place between the phone.
