I got one for my Idol 3. It works just fine...HOWEVER:
1) It is a slow charge vs. the USB cable (2-3 times slower).
2) Heats up the battery pretty quickly and gets pretty hot
3) Really inconvenient if you only have one wireless charging station and have to charge in the car or something
4) Tore mine because it was flimsy and I needed to charge using a cable (see #3).
Over all recommendation, yes, get it, it's fun to have wireless charging. BUT if you're going to be removing the plug everyday and switch between wireless charging and USB cable, be forewarned of what could happen.

Personally I feel the USB cable, with the included wall adapter, is STILL an extremely slow charge. That's one thing I dislike about this phone. The battery seems to take forever to charge just 5%. My phone was at about 60% one day and I decided to plug it in and went under battery and it said 4 more hours until full charge. 4 hours to charge just 40%? I wish Alcatel added the Quick Charge feature since the Snapdragon 615 it uses is capable of doing so.
Mine charges from about 25% to 100% in about 2 hours using included wall adapter with Dollar Tree USB cable (longer).
4 hours? That's a really long time. I charge mine using a sorts of chargers laying around and from nearly depleted to full, maybe 2.5hours max. :-/
The quality of your USB cable will affect the charge time. Cheaper cables contain less copper. I just replaced my ebay cables with branded, and the charge time for all my devices is much improved. The new cables were still under 2 GBP.
Thanks for the replies. I'm using a 6' charging cable from a brand called Xtreme bought at FiveBelow. Guess I'll start searching for a Samsung one or something.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I am using a USB cable from Dollar Tree. Can't get much cheaper than that. It charges just fine, from 25% to 100% is about 2 hours. The original cable that came with the Idol was not faster and it was too short for my use.

Actually it was just my charging cable that was the problem. I bought a new Anker charger and it charges the phone 10 times faster now. Really relieved that it wasn't something with the phone itself.

Fairly certain you'll need a case to be able to use it since there's no removable back on the Idol 3 so you'll need a case to hold it in place between the phone.

Is there anything special about the USB cable and wall charger that came with the Atrix 4g?
The cable isn't long enough and I need to find one that is at least 6'.
not at all. it's just a standard micro usb cable.
Beware of other phone chargers with mini usb though. The atrix is much more greedy than my wife's lg clamshell and it won't charge from that charger. It turns on but never actually charges.

The cable yes, the charger itself, no.
I got a generic one from [a national store] and it charges but locks up the phone while charging.
So apparently there are differences.
I've used the USB cable from an HTC, a Samsung, and a Blackberry. All worked fine. Take apart a cable and see what's inside of it - I think you'll find they're all the same.
Universal Serial Bus is a standard. In Europe that means that all USB wall chargers have to be more or less the same. I use an Amazon Kindle charger with my Atrix just fine. Have also previously used chargers from other Android devices, WP7 devices and Blackberries.
In short, you'll be fine.

well, yeah. you'll find it won't fit and won't charge if you're trying to use a mini usb cable.
Fair point, I did name the wrong connector. In my defense the USB guys do mess with their connector names and types all the time.
A charger with exactly the same plug (from an lg clamshell) failed to charge my atrix but did turn it on.

All proper chargers work fine on mine!
DON'T use cheap 1$ china chargers! They often have badly stabilized voltage and can even destroy your devices!
While on devices with proper stabilisation the voltage should look like the topmost graphic on this image (even under full load), on cheap devices it often looks like the one on the bottom, or something inbetween!
Also, some very cheap chargers allow the device to draw too much current, while grilling some internal components of the device. This could even start a fire!

For cables, you can use the cheapest! I never had a cable break in a way it could destroy anything besides itself, and I always buy cheap cables from www.dealextreme.com!
I can recommend this cable. Very solid build quality, better than most cables for 10€ around here!
Any of the usb wall chargers advertised for iPhones will work. I found an awesome one for my car by looking the in apple section at walmart.
I order nearly all cables from monoprice.com super duper cheap and they always work just fine. You can get a micro usb for less than a dollar.
I just use a chargers off monoprice. Super cheap adapter and cable.
My friend's galaxy charger fits, but does not charge properly. About 10% per hour.

Funny, my front-mounted USB ports (which put out just about 500mA) do a fine job for most devices including my Atrix. However, do not try to charge from dead via USB. For that you really need the full-power AC adapter. I use one from a previous phone at work (Samsung I think) and it charges in no time.
cable any micro USB cable will do. I have been using the cable that came with my kindle since I got the phone. The cable that came with my phone I think is in my car and the some random 3' cable in my bag for my computer. They all work fine. As for charging the computer and car USB is very slow as the only put out about 2.5 watts. The one that came with our phone puts out a little under 5 watts.
I always buy Monoprice cables. Although I have to admit the 1" micro usb cable I had been using from them seems to be broken as the cable will or will not charge depending on how its folded. But for the $1 or whatever I paid for it, it lasted a long time.

Almost forgot...I've been using the ipad wall charger. It's a 2amp charger and charges the phone extra fast. I've been meaning to look for car cigarette lighter to usb chargers that are intended for ipad so I can have that 2 amps available for any device.
Just for information.
I recently bought HTC Evo 3D for my wife and installed a self-made 5V/3A charger in her car. The charger converts 12V in-car to 5V/3A stable.
I immediately was stuck with a problem. Whenever I put her Evo 3D it charges nicely. But my Atrix don't.
I remembered there is something special in Atrix USB toward charging. I checked and found that adding 10K resistor between white (receive or transmit?) and red (+5V) wires let my Atrix charges as it should be.
10K resistor has no effect in HTC.
From what I know it is just a standard Micro USB, the usb to outlet adapter, I am not sure, but it looks like a fairly standard device.

You will be sruprised if you use a current monitor. I only have used "Current Widget". You will be surprised how many chargers and cables charge below 1/2 amp while others charge at almost an amp. You can test all of your chargers and cables this way. For example I have a wall charger with a long cable, with what looks like very small wires, suggesting a low charge, but it actually charges at 1000 ma, much better than some really short cables i have. Also apparently if the data signal is shorted in the cable or in the charger it will tell the phone to charge near an amp.
I also have a charger in my car that has a usb connection that says 1a and 2.1a. The 1 amp charges at almost 1 amp while the 2.1a charges at a 1/2 amp. If you dont use the amp app to see this you would never know and be charging your phone at the slower rate
Just for clarification 1a(amp) = 1000 ma(milliamp), 1/2a = 500 ma

I didnt use a formula. I downloaded the widget from the play store "current widget". I dont think there is anything we do. The only little bug that i know of with it, is it displays for example 9993 ma, when it reall is 999ma. There is no way it could be 10 amps. The numbers might not be right but they appear to relative to different chargers, cables length etc
I've been hearing a lot about these 2 amp chargers charging devices really really fast. I heard them talking about it on the podcast also but I was wondering if they were safe to use with this device? If so I'm gonna purchase a few. I charge my N3 with the original charger (2A/5v) and bought a 2 meter usb cable, its 100% fullly charged in about 1-1,5 hrs i guess.

It looks pretty good!!!!!! but I charge my Note3 with the original charger (2A/5v). Thanks for your post.
The original stock charger 5.3V 2.0A is the fastest, it was made for the note 3, even a 5V 2.0A will be slightly slower.
Do also note that the cable plays an important part in the charging time especially in my case where I'm using a third party cable and charger.
Using the following app, it can show how much current it's currently charging. Here mine, post yours if higher then mine. Can someone post the screenshot using the original samsung usb cable and charger as a reference too?

It's weird though, because my Galaxy S4 charges at 1900mAh on its stock charger. I assumed that with USB 3.0, the Note 3 would somehow charge at a faster rate.

You are right. USB 3.0, the latest version of USB (Universal Serial Bus), provides better speed and more efficient power management than USB 2.0. USB 3.0 is backward compatible with USB 2.0 devices; however, data transfer speeds are limited to USB 2.0 levels when these devices inter-operate.
From my experience with Sony's charging dock on the Tablet Z, I found that it charged quite slowly as compared to a usb connected charge. I would see an overnight charge which is roughly 8 hours to only charge 30% to 85% whereas a direct usb charge would give a full charge within an hour and a half. Just wondering cause I've ordered the Z2 and hoped that the dock wouldn't be such a bad experience cause I don't want to bother with the flaps unless I have to.
I picked up a generic dock from Amazon. Seems to be 'straight through' connections, so chargers as fast as the charger will allow...

The magnetic charging port is definitely slower but mine still charges in a few hours on the dock next to my bed(not sure how many amps the wall adapter is). In my car it seems about the same off the 2 amp charger(so I assume the other is only 1-1.5 amp) with much heavier drain(bright screen, BT streaming, navigation, etc.).

A lot will depend on the quality of the cable as well. I have the no name dock from amazon and it is slow to charge with the supplied short cable but very quick with the Sony one
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
It depends on the charger and the cable, to charge a 3200 MAH battery for the z2
a minimum 2 amp charger and 38 pin cable is definitely a must !
My magnetic charging port charges at a rate of 1% every 1 1/2 mins, 2 1/2 hours for full charge according to my battery stats which seem about right.

Ookay... I just connected the Mulitmeter between smartphone and dock (it's a hassle.... Hacked USB cable would be nice....)
The official Sony wallcharger (1.5A) is charging the dock and Smartphone with 800-850mA.
I tried Doomkernels Fastcharge and forced constant AC =roughly 1300mA.
Strangly when I set it to 1500 or 2000 in Faux app it falls back to 800mA.
The battery was 85% charged when I made those tests.

Yeah,,,, so.... i made a reallife test!
Set FauxApp to "Constant AC" in FastCharge options.

Then after that i set to "Custom" 1200mA
Charged from 76% to 100% in 3.5hours
tonight i'm trying to empty the phone (Unreal Epic Citadel might be a good idea, or maybe GFXbenchmark Battery Test....) and set to Custom 1500mAh and see what happens.

i wonder if it would charge faster than the Sony 1.5A charger.

Phew... dem chargers! 18W and 30W editions!
5V 4A
9V 2.2A
12V 2.5A
20V 1A
Quick charge 2.0 does only use 9V sporadically doesn't it ?
Edit2: and 9V 4A .... wow
I wish. I could do charging in 90 minutes. It takes twice as that now.
Charger that comes with this phone is just labeled fast charge... Phone seems to charge pretty slow also from what I see.
i just installed some dual 2.4A usb outlets in my house they charge very fast from 8% to 100% in about an hour, considering the Amperage on the stock charger is 1.8A it doesn't seem like it would be enough to use the phone while charging.
I havent used the stock charger yet but mine reads it puts out [email protected] 1.8amps or [email protected] 1.8amps. I am waiting for my battery to get really low so i can see how fast it will charge.

When the OEM charger is plugged in, swipe down and you can see it says it's being fast charged.
When plugged in, my screen does say Quick Charge, and my phone charged rather fast, but still getting used to it. Even when I had my phone plugged into a normal new USB C plugged directly into my usb outlet, it seemed to charge much faster than I was expecting.
Yes I understand it says fast charging, so does the quick charge 2.0 with this phone, but is it actually charging at QC 3.0 speeds??
It seems silly they would make a Quick Charge 3.0 phone and not supply the relevant charger.
I ordered an aftermarket QC 3.0 charger, I guess I can do some comparisons when it shows up.
Anker makes a very nice Quick Charge 3.0 charger.

I performed a test with the aftermarket QC 3.0 charger linked above and the one supplied with the phone. I drained to 90% and as soon as it hit 90 I plugged it in and started the timer. The results are nearly identical in how fast 100% charge was achieved.
The first screenshot of total time was the aftermarket charger and the 2nd is the factory charger. I would venture to guess based on these results, the factory charger is QC 3.0, but you can draw your own conclusions.

Well if the stock charger says 9V @ 1.8A and 5V @ 1.8A, then it's not true QC 3.0 as that uses voltages from 5V - 20V.

There only will be a minimal effect because the original charger has a 9V and 1.8A = 16W rating.
All Aftermarket charger with QC 3.0 had a maximum reading of 18W, 9V at 2A or 12v at 1.5A.
And you can't do a comparison at the last 10%percent of the charging process, because of of the method that's just to charge lithium battery's.
Lithium-ion battery see charge and discharge
Around the last 10% will be constant voltage where the charger has minimal influence. Because the internal resistance of the battery cause the amount of power that goes in the battery.
Ca you do another test with larger charge?
Before any of you rush out and buy a cheap charger to save a few bucks I'd think twice about it. I have been screwed by cheap chargers on more than one occasion which is why I refuse to buy them anymore.
I've had them stop working after a couple weeks and many of them made a very annoying noise. Some made a high pitch squealing noise while just sitting there doing nothing and others made the noise while charging.
Slow and Fast
I noticed it charged VERY slow at first while i was using the phone at the same time. I notoced the charger wasnt even slighty warm to the touch after 30+ minutes. That made me think and noticed if I left the phone at rest without turning it on it charges much quicker and the charger got warm quick. And the charger actually cools down if you start using it half way through a charge.
*I took a screen shot of the battery usage graph, but I'm new so I can't post photos yet so you'll have to trust me lol
My rough estimates are that if you are using the phone while charging it will take just over 2 hours, but if you don't touch it then it charges in under 50 minutes.
Mind you phones battery temperature also effects the charge rate, is if you have it on top of a pillow it might not charge as quick.
You don't wanna use the phone while it quick charges. Turn screen off for an hour and it will be done

Dude how are you basing charging speeds from 90% to 100%.../
The charger that came with the G5 is the same charger that came with my v10, it is only Quick Charge 2.0, I have compared the model #'s and they are exactly the same. I have gone on amazon and ordered a Anker Quick Charge 3.0 plug and a couple of their USB-C cables.

I just contacted LG through their website via E-Mail regarding the Quick Charge 3.0 charger, I will follow-up once I receive an email back from them. The website advised that I should receive an email within 24 hours.

I have drained to 50% and am performing the same test with the factory charger now. Will update results later this evening so I can repeat with the aftermarket charger.

It's a wonder why anyone tries to share information on this site with comments like this. Since you probably only skimmed over what I posted, I said feel free to draw your own conclusions and that it was a 'quick test'.
When the phone gets to 80 % the other 20% go pretty slow, might even be similar to the QC 2.0... But 50% to 100% would be a good test, and we can see if there's a difference
