So I rooted my HTC Rezound a months ago, since ICS didn't launch when I wanted it to lol..Any way I decided I want to unroot my phone so I can trade it in on a new one. I followed the guidelines a user posted on XDA to the T and I keep getting either a message failed my version is newer or older than the one im installing? I did however download a ICS fake update before I rooted and wasn't sure if that has anything to do with it. As of right now I am stuck in the Bootloader screen I can not do anything. Please help, I need this phone for work since I am supposed to be On Call everyday. If you need any numbers from the bootloader screen I am sure I have them memorized lol.
Unrooting Guide I followed
Was here in XDA
The easiest way I've found to re-lock your rezound is to download the attached "tools.zip" and extract to your desktop.
Boot your rezound into fastboot by removing your battery, putting the battery back in, holding down on the volume rocker and power. Then plug your rezound into your computer. Assuming you used your computer to unlock the rezound then you should already have the required drivers.
Open command prompt and enter the following:
cd C:\Users\[Your Name Here]\desktop\tools
Then run the command
fastboot oem lock
Your bootloader is now locked and ready to begin restoring stock recovery and rom from Stock RUU.
2. Downloading the stock RUU
*Will Update As New RUU's Are Released*
2.02.605.11 STOCK RUU EXE
download
1.02.605.6 STOCK RUU EXE
download
(will add PH98IMG.zip download for 2nd method soon)
You can do this one of two ways. You can use the exe ruu which i like to use, its simple straight forward and guides you through the process
-or-
Extract the RUU zip from the exe or download from XDA its all over.
Rename the zip PH98IMG.ZIP put on root of SD card and boot into HBOOT hit
yes with appropriate volume key and let it do its thing.
I personaly perfer running the exe. Makes life easy. But whatever floats your boat.
SIDE NOTE: IF YOU WISH TO ROOT AGAIN
the one click root tool might not work properly and will not have proper permision to install SU, If this happens flash amon through fastboot. And under development section install su / superuser, you are now rooted again

Looks like you have ICS installed.
That tutorial was for Gingerbread.
Just flash the 3.14.605.12 RUU.

You should have tried searching before you posted. There are at least 5 threads with people asking how to do this. Also, when you unlocked via htcdev, they told you how to relock your device. So, for the sixth time:
Fastboot oem lock
run the RUU
reboot.
Device will say ***RELOCKED*** at the top of the bootloader
Thank you so much for your help!! I have been searching and trying to do this for so long now. The mistake I was making was that I was trying to run the RUU before doing fastboot oem lock.
So, for others like me who end up on this thread to relock their Evo 3D and bring it back to stock (if you've unlocked using HTCdev method and have S-ON):
*) make sure that you have the adb and fastboot files in the folder you are in.
1) from your command line, run "adb reboot bootloader"
2) On your phone you'll see "Fastboot USB"
2) run "fastboot oem lock"
3) You should now see "RELOCKED" on top.
4) Execute the RUU from your computer (I did - RUU_Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.08.651.3_Radio_0.97.10.0808_NV_SPCS_1.31_003_release_219445_signed.exe)
5) Reboot your phone.
Thank you so much Twolazyg!!
What about the rom?
Does this restore the rom to stock if you loaded a custom rom?
Yes.
Locked & Loaded
""shooter on Deck""
The HTC Unlock method didn't do anything for me and I am preparing to flash the 651.3 RUU so that I can try again.
Does the RUU need to be renamed exactly " PG86IMG.zip " inorder to work (like the radio zips)?

The bootloader will only scan/load files from the /sdcard if they are placed in the root and labeled PG86IMG.zip.
The RUU .exe can't be placed in the sdcard, the rom.zip file from inside of the RUU has to be extracted, renamed to PG86IMG.zip and placed in the root of the /sdcard.
Good luck!
Thanks for the info JoeyKrim, beginning to wonder if there are too many posts on here for people to notice and respond to. Created another post at Sdx to keep track of what I find out:
Stock Hboot1.50 RUU 651.3 flash question: http://forum.sdx-developers.com/?topic=18852.0
Here's some of the details from there:

(XDA) jdeoxys's [How to] Restore evo 3d to latest stock RUU on hboot 1.5
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1337379
Update: The long filename did nothing. Changed it to PG86IMG.zip, put it on a blank sdcard and booted to Hboot 1.50. It read the file, checked the file, did some stuff, and then I selected "Reboot" and my phone was still the same as I had set it up.
Q: Do I need to format / factory reset first?
I didn't "Relock" since I never got it "unlocked" and I didn't use adb since it read the zip as soon as Hboot started.
Also: Can't figure out how to load/use adb correctly (win7). Did the HTCdev unlock downloads (see below), located and manually copied the 3 files (adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll, fastboot.exe) over to c:/android folder. No problems with fastboot stuff. Thought I installed android sdk, java, etc correctly, maybe not.

(ScottsRoms) HTC Evo 3D Stock Roms (RUU's & zips): http://www.scottsroms.com/downloads.php?do=cat&id=4
Apparently the .exe version works from within MsWindows (saw screenshot somewhere) as long as you can boot phone to the android OS with "Debugging" enabled. Otherwise you have to extract the the zip and rename it like JoeyKrim posted above.
Update: Pulled the HTC RUU.exe How to Instructions from the exe file:
HTC Evo3D RUU 651.3 exe Directions.doc : http://www.mediafire.com/?lkryvm4k29hm7g3
The Stock RUU.zip from (ScottsRoms.com) worked once renamed (PG86IMG.zip). It's 400mb vs 399mb for the one from Mr.Esp's post at xda. I put onto sdcard and rebooted to hboot as indicated in Scrosler's post at AndroidCentral from above (see pictures below). May try the exe file another time. Now to try the unlock again. Here's the filenames and MD5's:

put it in fastboot mode and run the RUU again.
from fastboot
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Run stock ruu (only if you have the exe)
do you have the ruu.exe or just the zip?
if its just the zip make sure you run cmd with administrator rights and make sure the ruu zip is in the directory where your fastboot resides. on a windows 7 box (Program Files (x84)/Android/android-sdk/platform-tools)
then:
fastboot flash zip ruu_zip_name.zip
Good luck

This should work for you, I had similar issues, and had to run fastboot commands to get it loaded right. This is the best explanation I've seen, should be added somewhere in the pinned docs.
Also you may have another option.
hboot 1.10.0000 is a stock hboot for the BB wifi flyer.
From fastboot you should be able to run revolutionary to gain s-off irregardless of your rom state. after you have s-off its just a matter of do you want HC or GB.
You can always relock the bootloader once you have a working rom again.
I have the HC s-off ruu. its buried in a thread somewhere but i'd be happy to host it somewhere so you could download it.

You have two options:
1. Restore the stock recovery and proceed with the update, it won't do anything but update the system files, it may or may not remove the JB hboot, though I recommend you restore the stock GB hboot since updates tend to cancel when the hboot is higher than the one being installed, which the JB hboot version is set higher so as to prevent any new updates from over writing it.
or
2. Download the stock ICS ruu from the ruu/ota thread and install it via hboot by renaming the file PH85IMG and placing it on your sd card.
No reason to get suspicious, it's okay.

If you're s-off you don't need to lock the bootloader, anyways, don't use that file, look for the ruu/ota collection thread in tue dev forum for the latest file, rename it, make sure it's on the root of your sd card.

Sure, this is the confirmation.
You need this RUU for your AT&T
Reboot in bootloader mode
Plug in your USB cable
Open a adb command window
At the prompt type>fastboot oem lock
Your phone will reboot.
Again in bootloader mode with FASTBOOT USB highlighted simply run the RUU downloaded
Your phone will be completely wiped including SD card.
What exactly is the RUU? What does it do?
Also, once I do that, how do I get the stock ROM back on it?
Also, once I get back to stock recovery how do I get back to bootloader?
RUU = ROM Update Utility
This will update and restore your phone to it's original state including boot, recovery, rom, etc. Your phone will be exactly like it was the first time you press the Power button.
To access Bootloader simply hold your Volume down rocker and press Power button.
I ran the RUU a few times and it has been stuck on the "Verifying information on your Android phone. Please wait ..." screen for a long time. How long does the RUU run?
I am running win7 from a virtual machine. Not sure if that makes a difference. But the RUU didn't seem to work. Do you have a MD5 for the RUU file you posted?
Would that work if you registered your phone on htcdev.com? Warranty will be void if you unlocked your device, it doesn't matter if its locked again.

Yes maybe the VM can be a problem, I will do search about this. One thing I know. some people says the needed many try before it worked.
MD5 : 3B951A3195E60712A62A4DB6AC181CC7
You can try this one if you want an alternative : RUU_EVITARE_UL_JB_45_Cingular_US
Thanks. What's the difference between the two exe files?
They are the same, only the source is different. Since I am having an TELUS phone I can't test if any of those files are working so I gave you two different source to download the file just "in case..."
In bootloader it will state re-locked after locking bootloader again so its not possible to get back all stock again.

So the problem here is that my Evo 3D GSM bootloops no matter what i flash. I can get in to HBOOT and Fastboot but can't get in to recovery, or boot a rom. I tried flashing various versions of cwm and 4EXT and none seem to work. I boot to HBOOT select recovery but it just goes back to bootlooping. Tried flashing various roms (had Viper3D for like a month and then one night it started bootlooping), even tried flashing a RUU multiple times but the bootloop goes on. And since that didn't help i unlocked again and downgraded HBOOT. For a period of time the phone didn't boot but that was because the battery is drained and can't charge when off, so I'm using a Desire X battery.
Before flashing RUU

Any ideas would be helpfull.
I don't know what ruu you need, but you need to make sure its right.
Then without hooking your phone up, run ruu on windows.
Let it load up, the go to run and type %temp%
In the window that pops up, look for the newest folder, that will contain a file named rom.zip drag it to your desktop.
Rename it pg86img.zip
Now, you need to get that file to the root of your sd card, use a card reader, another phone, something.
Make sure it is the only pg86img.zip on your card.
Once you have the pg86img.zip on your sd, put it back in your EVO, and boot to bootloader. Accept the update and it should do the rest.
Do no relock before you do this. It is not necessary.
When you finally get booted remove that file or rename it.
Hope that gets you going

Sorry for taking so long to reply, didn't have the time until now. I tried your method and it still didn't work
Though this I might try but I'm not too cozy with having to brick my device and i have no Linux experience. Not much else I can try...
Also is there a way to get back S-ON, because a while ago I sent the phone to repairs but they rejected my warranty because of s-off and revolutionary. Is my warranty still valid even if I revert back?
are you sure recovery is flashed ok? drivers may be the issue. try reinstalling drivers and running RUU or flashing recovery
