Folks,
Using the Siyah kernal for a while now and its been amazing.. Well, I have seen an option under Stweaks to increase de amperes for USB charging..
Default is 475mAH which causes slow charging.. Is there any harm if this is increased and upto what level can we increase it?
I put it to 900 no harm to mention.

it may very well damage your usb port on a long run.
Recommended max power output of usb 2.0 is 500ma, (in gaming computer it may be more) on usb 3.0 its 1000ma .
So, determine which you have got. In laptop it will be even less...
If you are not using computer usb and other usb charger you can increase it but keep in mind charging in high amp. will shorten life of your battery too...

Why using an ac charger dont damage the usb port?
USB & AC charge at same speed here... I've set USB @550mah & AC @750mah so i think there's a problem with STweaks (or what?!) :s
When you say usb port am I right in thinking you mean the computer and not the phone?

Read that ... But basically anything under 1470 should be fine
No damage.

Is it OK to charge my S3 using the USB port of my car? I'm not sure of the current rating of the USB port but if ever can it be lower than 500mA (standard current rating of USB 2.0) and have no problems with it? If it's less than 500mA, it will take longer to charge, I know, but is it safe?

Yes it is safe. By default that port will charge at 500mA

Right, thanks. Same rating with USB 2.0 ports in computers.
It might take you 8 hours or more before you have a fully charged phone but go ahead.. unless you boost your USB Charge rate by installing a custom kernel like Syiah

Is that 8 hours approximate the same when charging through computer usb 2.0 ports?
What are the pros and cons of boosting usb charge rate by installing a custom kernel?

The obvious con is that you may and probably will fry your Usb port on the computer.
To keep their stuff as cheap as possible, manufacturers have usually stopped using current-limiters in the usb ports. So if you drain more power than it was spec'ed for the weakest link will burn out eventually. (over-engineering is long gone in computer hardware)
However you won't often really charge that faster since you simply can't get any more...
Many built-in car chargers provide 1Amp power instead of 0.5

Oh btw, I'm not using a car charger. Literally, my car has a USB port. Are you saying that USB port is rated at 1A?

I'm using siyah kernel 1.7RC3+ with resurrection remix AOKP ROM. Why am I experiencing slow charge with my desktop or laptop? And sometimes even with the wall plug charging its slow... I didn't tweak anything from Stweaks.
I had also search but could not find any..

I have always had way, way slower charge with computer than plugged into wall -- regardless of stock/root/whatever.
Hmmm really? How about others??
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Yep, charging with computer is really slow. Sometime it takes 5-8 minutes just for 1 percent to go up.
Just an FYI don't forget that it is always a good idea to use the official wall charger as it may draw some non standard voltage. If this is the case then other wall chargers will only deliver the standard 0.5 v to the device. I found i get much faster charges with the Sammy charger, even if the cable is miserably short.
The same goes for your PC though, you will probably only be pulling down the minimum safe voltage. These may be exacerbated by the use of a custom kernel which may have jindrakked values for charging esp on PC.

True.
On every HTC exists hacks which enable fast charging via USB. Is there any on SGS?
btw. HTC chargers are same as Sammy charger.(or maybe even faster).
Argh I wish there is a hack. Or someone can help us

Guys, my gf will be getting a 2.1A + 1.0A dual usb charger because her old one died, what is the safe limit for the charging control so i don't fry her S3?
Will it be ok around 1400mah?
Thanks.
I suggest you stick with stock value which is 1000 mA over wall charger and 475 mA over USB.
In theory, yes, the i9300 can take with maximum up to 2100 mA but I'm sure nobody will recommend it.

So you think going above 1000mah could be dangerous to the device?
The charger supports 2.1A, or atleast that's what it says.
(When i had an S3 too, i set usb input charge to 850mah because i had usb 3.0 on my pc and it was charging just fine!Don't know if it matters or not though.)

I know, the chargers for tablets such as iPad has output capacity of 2100 mA.
And I think, stock value set to 1000 mA is for good reason like archive minimum charge time and less dangerous to the device and battery.
One thing I sure is that, if you charge with 2.1 A, your battery will probably heat up like hell, and that high temperature is NOT GOOD for Li-ion battery as we have for i9300.
For myself, I always set it down to 800 mA for over night charging (I guess you won't set up a alarm in the middle of night to wake you up to unplug the charger, will ya? ). And I do use 2.1 A charging, in case of EMERGENCY like I have to go out for long time and my battery is low so I have to make the battery charged as much as I possibly could. But still, it is NOT recommended.

this is my big problem now
my phone takes from 7 to 10 hours to charge (with the official charger when the mobile is turned off) and about 12 or 13 hours to get empty
what can I do ??
Change the cable.
Use this app to monitor "MAX" : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.abmantis.galaxychargingcurrent.free if it's less than 999 on AC, let us know.

Maximum is 100. This is the "safety" level that the kernel controls when it detects an "unstable connection" to USB. means either your wall plug, USB cable or USB port on phone is faulty. 99% of the time, it's the samsung cable. Try swapping it for any other USB cable.

it was the USB cable
And please, what if numbers are 300-999-300? Is good or could be better? My phone has longer charging time too.
What is the best cable or charging set? Thanks.

Only "MAX" is relevant. Even the app developer doesn't really know what the other values mean.

Hi,
So I have a Galaxy S3 which has been running perfectly fine on 4.3 however recently the phone has stopped charging properly. It takes me a whole day JUST to get to 75% !!!! I thought it was the battery at first because it had small black marks on it so I replaced that but still the same!
Then I thought okay maybe its a software glitch, I have upgraded to 4.4 which hasnt helped. Then I downgraded to 4.1.2 which also does not help.. I am stuck at the edge where I feel like throwing this phone in the bin!
I have already tried several charges e.g. the galaxy s4 charger (which is meant to charge the phone REALLY fast but still really slow!).. I have tried a SONY Xperia Z1 charger which is slow as well.. Then there comes the ****ty charger which came with the galaxy s3 which is extremely slow itself. I now know the problem is not the charger, battery or the software so wth can it be? -_-
Thanks.

Micro Usb port on the phone. When you plug the charger, what does it say in battery settings? Usb or Ac charging? Solution is repair shop or like me,custom kernel and increase charging current for usb charging from 460(standard rate) to 1100.

Hi,
First of all, thank you very much for your reply.
Ignore the second reply if you received that. I have now installed a custom kernel, the custom kernel I installed is the Boeffla Kernel. I have changed the charging rate for AC charge current to 1600 from 1100 and I have changed the USB Charge current from 475 to 1100. Are these settings fine? (AC Charge current is on max settings now).. When checking in the application "Battery Monitor Widget" I see difference from minus numbers to positive numbers so maybe time will tell the difference.. I am now getting a similar problem where, while I have the cable connected to the S3 and the other side to the computer or to the wall plug, There are times when it says "DISCHARGING" instead of whatever it is meant to say.. How can I sort this out?
Thanks.

But 1100 was the default setting on mine for AC and if I changed it to 1300 would it not barely make a difference at all? Its working great at 1600 at the moment to be honest.. No problems so far and the speed has made a massive difference now!
Thank you for this

Yes but you are killing your battery slowly. Default for Ac should be 1000.
It would make a difference,it's 30% more and that is high procentage for everything. Your phone, your battery and if you are happy,I am happy:thumbup:

I will put it down to 1300 to be on the safe side. Theres another issue I dont understand.. At times the charger is plugged in to the phone but if I move it a little it would stop charging?
1 difference I have found is that if the charger is connected to the computer and then to the phone, so USB charging, it charges fine, like I dont have to move the cable around.. but if the charger is connected to the wall plug, I would have to move it around to get it to charge?
Confused :LL I know the wall plug is fine because my other phone charges properly with it without moving it?

I dont think it's the wall socket that is at fault
More likely it's usb cable. Try another one, maybe you loose contact on the usb,not micro usb side.
