[Q] Archos 101 G9 Turbo Wifi Streaming Problem - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Device: Archos 101 G9 Turbo (1,5 ghz)
Android: official 4.0.7 (4.0.3)
problem: wifi and streaming videos
question: will rooting/downgrade/custom rom solve my problem?
hello xda,
2 weeks ago i bought the Archos G9 101 Turbo, the main reason to use it is to watch my movies and series i have on my computer. the problem is that my archos almost can't connect to my pc.. SMB doesnt work at all, it keeps asking for login and password, and with upnp the videos are displayed, but when i want to play them i get an error saying mediaserver stopped or mediaserver error, i tried every video player, all stop or they give a terrible weird image for a while and after that crash. even with ES file explorer or the unofficial xbmc it wont work i've read on forums that there are more wifi and streaming problems with the G9 101 and i am thinking to returm my tablet, but first i want to know if my problems can be solved by rooting it and downgrade it/custom rom.. Please help! if i root it and it wont work i cant return it because rooting it will void the warranty... so.. my question is:
will rooting/downgrade/custom rom solve my problem:?
greeting,

No, installing custom rom wont speed up the tablets wifi. It might help with bad/weird image, but its not worth risk IMO.

Try to setup a user with a username & password on your PC, then use that to login from your Archos, restarts of your PC & tablet will be required... When I was running official ROMs I occasionally had some issues connecting to shared folders on my PC, but this was more a Windows 7 issue than an Archos one. Once I moved to Ubuntu and the initial issues with users/user groups I have no problems, though because the Archos file manager can't work on CM9 I use ES File Explorer.

[Q] Archos 101 urukdroid 0.7 smb issues

Hello,
I recently installed UrukDroid, which is mostly awesome, except for one problem. SMB does not work. I have activated it using Urukconfig. On the stock, I had issues with it working with the files manager. I was able to fix this problem by installing Samba Network Fileshare. I tried doing this again, however, Samba is unable to execute shell commands. Anyone have a similar experience, and have any success fixing the problem?
Thanks in advance,

[Q] Archos 101 G9 rooted does not seen adhoc wifi

Does anyone knows how to tell to the honeycomb to see also the adhoc wifi on the network instead of filtering them out ?
I'd like to share my wired adhoc connection of my notebook with my Archos and surfing in "stereo" mode
Thank you in advance.

[Archos 101 g9 8G + 'surdu_petru' custom Rom for FW 3.2.79.]
update
I've found a file twlan.ini and I've changed the WiFiAdhoc = 0 to WiFiAdhoc = 1.
But still the same problem. Archos did not connect to adhoc wlan.
I've tried to googling this but without success.
Do sameone has successfully connected with a "adhoc" network with Archos 101 g9 ? I mean, Archos is the client to connect to a pc in thether mode.
bye
Not currently possible to tether HC or ICS G9 to adhoc wifi ap.
After many days of researching there is no current solution to tethering a G9 to a adhoc wifi connection be it HC or ICS. My quest has failed.
The only hope seems to be if someone can modify the archos g9 ICS version of /system/bin/wpa_supplicant (seems to be hardware dependent) file similar to what other developers have done for other devices such as the Xoom, Adam and Prime (I've already tried the wpa_supplicant files that are used with these devices, no joy). I don't think that's going to be likely due to the relatively small takeup of the G9. I've also tried solutions based on minipulating the \data\misc\wifi\wpa_supplicant.conf file as well. I'm giving up finding a solution on the G9 side of the equation and will probably un-root it back to factory default. I'm also thinking of selling off my archos g9 101 hdd turbo and buying a windows 7/8 tablet but thats another story.
I've been trying to tether my G9 to my Windows Mobile 6.5 smart phone via HTC Wifi Router. I've scoured the web, read numerous articles, tried all sorts of procedures to no avail. Its time to upgrade the phone OS with something that will operate in Infrastructure wifi AP mode. I'm going to try out the WinMo android dual boot solution posted at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=938669. I'll report back my findings if anyone is interested.
I've attached the wpa_supplicant file thats in my ICS G9. Its a version 0.8 apparently.
Good luck if you are still searching.

I've your firmware 4.0.4 rooted, no support for ad-hoc in the wpa_supplicant
and the old 3.2.80 didn't had too
there is no way to have ad-hoc support for archos until now
AdHoc doesn't work for me on my phone either but with the CyanogenMod7 ROM I use on my phone, tethering works wirelessely!
It just works! I don't need any apps I just toto
Settings, Wireless and Ntwks, WiFi Tethering.
It works.

I confirm that AdHoc does not work on the tablet (like connectify or through ubuntu). I have a lg optimus one with cyanogen and AdHoc works perfectly. with this tablet I have tried tons of market applications to run AdHoc's wifi, but at best, they will break down the wifi... ciao
Finally got it tethered to my HTC Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium) !

After almost giving up trying to find a solution to tethering my G9 101 HDD ICS to my WinMo 6.5 phone (only supports Adhoc mode) I decided to try out running Android on my HTC Rhodium (Touch Pro 2) using the XDAndroid (many thanks for your efforts, some beer money coming your way ) stuff over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1. Its a dual boot solution allowing me to switch back to my trusty faithful WinMo 6.5 EnergyROM. Its a doddle to setup.
I'm now able to tether my G9 to the Android version running on my phone using the built in WiFi Hot Spot function (Infrastructure Access Point in Open Mode) in Froyo. Happy happy days.

Need help, SDE menu on Archos 101 G9 turbo
I have a Archos 101 G9 turbo (with ice cream installed)
I want to root it and therefore I need to install the SDE menu.
I have downloaded the firmware from the Archos website
(SDE firmware for ARCHOS Generation 8 devices: (ARCHOS 101, 70, 43, 32, 28 internet tablet)
But this is not working on my tablet. I am getting an error (1)
Is there another firmware for G9 turbo tablets? And where can I download it?
Or is it something else I do wrong?
I push the power button and vol. down at the same time.
Then I see the recovery menu.
Go to firmware update.
Connect my tablet to my (windows) computer and see an window popup.
Select drive (I think an empty RAM-Drive) and copy the firmware to this drive.
then (on tablet) select “OK” to disconnect (so the firmware can install itself)
But then I get the Error (failed 1)
name of the file that I install is: firmware_archos_android_gen8.aos
Please help me.

[Help] HDD not found under Win7 with MTP

Hello,
I have a Archos 101G9 Turbo (1,5 Mhz) with a 250 GB HDD. Since yesterday, I have no access to this hard drive under Windows7. Instead of the Tablet icon a phone icon in the Explorer is displayed now me and the drive is empty. Both the record and the content is available under android. About ADB I can access the HDD.
I've tried the following:
Newly installed Windows Media Player and Windows media center
Storage carried out wipe of the SDE
Newly installed update Android 4.0.6 ([email protected]_04.06.2012)
All measures have brought no positive result. I have installed the custom ROM by surdu_petru. Unfortunately I can not associate the problem. I don't know whether the problem lies with the archos tablet or Windows7 Ultimate with SP1. Do you have a solution for this problem? Thank you for your help in advance.

Hello,
so, since no one had a solution up to now, have I installed the ungerootet on my ARCHOS firmware 4.0.7 (4.0.3) and newly established the tablet to the root. Now I have the internal memory available under Windows7 Ultimate again.

Android 5 Write Access

Hi,
i have this simple configuration.
Philips Andoird TV PUS6501 (Android 5) + External HDD
PC (Windows 10)
What i want is to copy files from my PC to the HDD wich is connected to the TV.
I heard this was possible with Android KitKat but since Android Lollipop the function is gone.
I heard what i want is possible if i get root and set up a Samba Server (wtf never done something like that before)
I heard root is possible but only temporary (with the dirty cow script) but i didnt find any tutorial for my TV nor did i recive any help in the Philips Android TV Thead.
So what can I do to get write access when the HDD is still connected to the TV?

Share the files on your PC and use X-plore or ES file manager to copy the files from one to the other. Another possibility is using something like Cetus Play on the TV side. It can set up a simple web server that will accept uploaded files.
