I tried to search for the same problem through XDA but found nothing.
The phone is GT-I9300, Android 4.0.4, firmware I9300XXLH1. After some time after reboot the phone stops make and receive calls. The signal in statusbar is full and in notification menu I can see the name of my mobile operator. First I thought that something is wrong with my SIM-card. But after every reboot, as I already mentioned, for some time there're no problems.
Besides even after calls become unavailable, 3G and Edge are working fine.
May be someone can suggest any solution?

Weird. Doesn't sound like it's actually losing signal, just loss of functionality heh. As you even noticed you have signal and the radio is still functioning, at least for data, just not for voice.
I know it's a pain but I would start by either factory defaulting the stock ROM and see if it persists or if you want try a custom ROM and make sure to do a full wipe first.
The ****ty part is loss of data. If you have CWM installed then maybe make a nandroid first so you can revert back if it's no different

Flashed the same rom again and made full wipe, nothing changed. Downloading now 4.1.1 rom, may be something will going better
Have you cut your sim card or is it an original micro sim? Of you have cut it that's your culprit.

Hmm, that is messed up.
Maybe try a different modem?
It sounds like a software bug but to carry across a fresh install.... That's not right....
What ROM are you trying? Did it happen on any other one? Or just happens with this new ROM?

So i have 2 sims of one mobile op. The factory one and cut one. I began to think that the problem is with the sim card. So I tried both and nothing changed.
So may be there is any problem with micro-sim slot in the phone? May be the hardware problem. But if there is any hardware problem, why does the phone after airplane mode or reboot register in the network successfuly.
Besides when I call someone (while the network is still available) no matter how long the conversation is - the phone is available all the time.

Hey, just wondering did you manage to fix this problem?
My S3 is doing the same thing, only 2 weeks of having the phone and it started doing it today. I got full signal but it says I can only make emergency phone calls. Done the whole battery in & out, reset factory settings, and still nothing. I thought it may be the software update as I am yet to update but I'm unable to since I can't have data connectivity, I was going to use a friends' Wi-Fi to download the new firmware but it sounds like that doesn't help either?
Related
I have checked the forum and no thread had the fix I am looking for. I have K13 flashed on my phone and it was working great for over a week, but now all of a sudden today it stopped connecting to rogers. I have the correct internet and mms apns but my phone does not connect to rogers. I get no data and can send messages only some of the time, but I can receive them. I also can make phone calls, but cannot receive them.
Regardless, I have tried entering the apns again, resetting he network connection multiple times and resetting my phone multiple times. I have no idea why it is doing this. Could it be due to the firmware or is there a setting I need to change. Please help!
I had an issue with rogers today also, had no connection at work through out the day but once i left work it started working.
I really don't think this is a rogers issue. I am going to try flashing a different firmware on my phone... maybe that will fix it... I really don't know what to do. :-(
Another discovery is it works on occasion only and sometimes it shows 3g but does not connect to H+ when it sends out data.
Sounds pretty weird. Did you insert another 50cents when the operator asked??
Was working for a week then with no change at your end the weird crap started...
I'd flash back to stock Rom for your provider and see if all goes back to normal. I'd make a backup 1st to switch back if it's your provider and not the device.
Good luck.

Up to you really. If KG5 was working good try that 1st. That's what I would do if you are sure it's not your provider at fault.
Just a methodical process of elimination.

Fashing back did not solve the issue...
Doesn't point to your devices software to me from the little I know of your situation.
Could try a different sim...maybe from another network to see if there is something going on there.
Could try your sim in another device also. See if it works the.
Otherwise could flash back to stock. Reset flash counter if need be with jig and take back to shop and see if they can get it going.
Sorry I can't be more helpful without hands on.

I will try the sim card thing. It seems weird to me that it would just stop working like this, but after reading around some think that it is the modem? How could that have even changed in my phone? Does flashing cause it to change? It was working fine for two months solid and for one week on K13.
It is definitely not the sim card. Modem?
I did read somewhere that someones ime number changed when they flashed.
Might be worth a search as I dont have a link.
There is a way to check if ur ime is correct by using the dialer.

Well Rogers actually fixed the issue. I called them and they apparently had tower issues in my area. It is back up and running after me trying to figure all this out. Such a headache, but at least I will know for next time... a problem like this should not randomly arise and the modem should not change if stock firmware is used (given it is the right version). My IME is still there.
Glad to hear all is good. Had my doubts about it being your device
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Thanks for all the help. I went through so many different processes, but I actually managed to get KIES to work with my phone now and all the settings I had are back on it too. So at least something good came out of it. Even if Rogers gave me a huge headache.
I am not sure when this started as I use the phone a lot more for text then calling. I have tried multiple roms and all seem to have the same problem but only on in coming calls. I am unable to hear the person calling for the 1st 20 to 30 seconds and then everything is OK. Out going calls are fine and like I said, it doesn't seem to matter which rom. Has anyone else had this problem or have a possible solution.
Thanks in advance
Pup
UN usual problems,
full wipe the phone using dial code
Remove the Sim, clean and re insert
Check with other Sim
Change modem and try
Flash a stock ROM again.
Pick your option!

The only thing on that list that I have not tried is another sim so I will pull the one from the wife's phone and give it a try. I never really had any problems with the CSC on the Rogers network no matter which one I used I really didn't notice a big difference. Any suggestions which would be better to use with them?
Where did I say anything about csc?
Said try different modem
If you can try flashing stock one more time, format system partition using cwm first than flash gb stock and see if you still have the issue.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
I made a little assumption I guess on the CSC as I thought maybe is was just an issue with my carrier not the modem as it seems to work fine on all aspects except the delay on me being able to hear the caller.
I am working through the suggested steps now I will post how I made out.
Thanks
atifsh
Followed your suggestions and using CWM took everything back to blank formated. Re-installed Samsung's latest version and removed cleaned and re-inserted sim card. First test on land line didn't work as same problems. Read somewhere to try and enable and then remove flight mode 1st and then attempted it again and all work as normal again. I am not sure what part really fixed it as there was so many different routes attempted but a good cleaning seems to have gotten me back to where I need to be. Thanks for your support and guidance.

Well I had this phone for a month now, and it was fine all along until a couple days back, what happens is during a call randomly (once a day or so) the phone loses the network and the call gets disconnected, then it comes back after a few seconds. The 1st time this happened, it didn't come back and even switching to airplane mode didn't work, I had to reboot. Now I bought this phone used and I don't recall making any changes. I was on LPX modem initially then changed to kh3 so reverted back to lpx but the problem still persists. Even tried cleaning the sim card and contacts. Is this a hardware issue or a software issue or most likely a network issue? Considering it worked fine for almost a month.
Does this happen to some of y'all?

Hmmm, what you trying to say here? The network is at fault? This didn't happen on my earlier i9003. And this does happen once almost on a daily basis.
Had similar problem few times... disappeared after random rom changes. Also could be something with usb port (this broken bastard even changed my phone state to driving mode while conversating, in result my phone turned speaker on and was screaming to my ear in public places...) If it connects to network properly everytime after reboot I would say its hardware or software problem - that means, something that you could handle directly or indirectly.

Well now it just drops the network altogether only when there is an active call. It doesn't/hasn't happened to me while using data or anything like that, just that it drops the call along with mobile network and reconnects after like 5 seconds. Quite annoying this. What you have mentioned is some contact in your usb port (dirt etc) causing the phone to jump to driving mode. Were you having similar network issues?

Funny how it came up all of a sudden, I pray it's not a hardware fault though, let me know how the reflash works for you. Meanwhile I'll try CM9 but I read in the thread that many people are having this issue on it, so it just might make it worse!

Don't think it's hardware related... sunt started after flashing 4.0.4 .... did a full wipe and reinstalled lpw => speed mod => slim ics => siyah 3.3.3d hope everything is good. flashed this morning. will wait a few days
I've had the exact same problem, and can't ever recall it happenning on gingerbread, Only noticed it on CM9. Looks like an ICS sandwich bug, it talks to the hardware differently so this would explain why gingerbread doesn't seem to have this problem, If you still have these issues maybe try a gingerbread modem, and see how that goes. They are backwards compatiable with ICS.
Well I went a day without this happening to me on CM9, I'll try it out for another day or so to check.

Been having a problem with Task's latest ROM (4-14) and the previous version (4-1). Both take several minutes to obtain carrier signal (AT&T) after booting. I've tried flashing with full wipe several times, different modems, and adjusting APN settings, but nothing fixed it. My phone usually picks up service after about 5 minutes, but sometimes I've waited 10+ minutes and had to reboot again, because it still hadn't connected. Also, maybe this is just how it's supposed to work, but I've noticed that while my phone has no service, if I go to System Settings->More->Mobile networks->Access Point Names there's nothing there at all. Just a blank window until it finally connects. Is anyone else having this problem or know of any possible solutions? Thanks!

Have you tries rebooting with airplane mode enabled and then disabling it when fully booted? This has worked for me in the past, although I've never had to wait as long as you've stated you have for a signal.

Mine does exactly the same. Baseband is unknown and there's no IMEI info until it finally connects. I also noticed that under service state it said "radio off" until it connects and then changes to "in service".
That's very odd. It's not just this rom it does this on is it?

Yeah dude, I've been using Task's ROM for a while now and this has only started happening since the 4-1 version. I even flashed back to the 3-13 build just to make sure and this problem doesn't happen with that build. I was hoping the 4-14 build would fix it, but it didn't. I did see on Task's developer thread someone made a post about having this issue, but it looks like they never posted a logcat or anything to help Task resolve it. I would gladly post one if I could, but I'm new to XDA and they won't let me post on a developer thread.

I no longer have any issues with the time zone changing in the newest build (4-14). I don't know if you're on that build, but the workaround for that problem was to set your own time zone manually.

Apparently, what's happening is the radio doesn't turn on during boot (Radio baseband not recognized error or something). I fixed this problem by turning on the wifi temporarily then turning it off. Apparently this will turn on the radio and should stay that way. I hope this works for you.

That worked dude, thanks! It took me a couple tries, I probably didn't give my phone enough time to boot, but I got it. Definitely a lot faster than waiting for it to connect on it's own.
I wonder why this only seems to affect some of our phones, but not the majority? If I didn't know any better, I'd say it almost seems like they have slightly different hardware. I bought mine directly from AT&T the first week it was released. Don't know if they possibly made any hardware revisions since?

I have been having this problem as well.
Yesterday I did another wipe and reinstall. I did a full wipe (and in mounts formatted everything except my external SD which was temporarily removed.) after flashing the rom, I rebooted recovery and did another wipe data/factory reset and wiped dalvik, then I installed gapps. I then formatted the cache and data again and rebooted the phone. It seems to have fixed the issue for me.

updated to version 4-14 and was enjoying it until today. Lost my phone service, for some reason the IMEI got corrupted...I don't even have the access point names choice in mobile networks...no amount of rebooting fixed it...had to flash the phone with a backup file and so far its doing fine..
Just randomly my phone decided that i no longer wants to work over Wifi. Nothing at all will connect through it but slow mobile data will. The phone hasn't been tampered with other than a new keyboard installed. No root no custom recovery no flashed roms. I would prefer to not factory reset or anything because of apps and personal data on it.
Any ideas will be tested ASAP as well as any questions, answered ASAP
Thanks Weave
Unfortunately the very first step in deciding if your problem is software or hardware is to factory reset and reflash the latest firmware. On an unrooted phone you will lose all your apps and settings, without the ability to back them up or restore them.

I am coming around to that fact sadly. I have noticed 1 other strange thing. It happened after the router went spastic for a day but its sorted now (roughly a week ago) but the other 2 GS3 I9300's and various computers and other internet capable devices still work fine but when i try connect mine to the Wifi connection it almost seems to kill it, at least for my laptop but i'm not sure of anything else's connection. I don't think it affect them but I cannot confirm that right now. It's cutting connection off to a speed a bit like dial up. Once i turn it off on my phone everything it fine again. Phone software issue I'm going to guess?

I checked and everything matched yours, although i lacked the same number of options. On this phone there is a "Check for internet service" check box but that does not affect it on the other 2 working GS3's.
