Anyone using Photon on AT&T prepaid Unlimited everything? - Motorola Photon 4G

Hello All,
Just wondering if anyone is using this on at&t prepaid unlimited everything plan. How much data are you using? Also if using it as hotspot, does at&t detect it? Any notices or terminiations occurr?
Thanks

I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan and use about 35 gb a month. AT&T have sent me no notices or complaints about the data usage or hotspot.

how to setup AT&T $10 data on Vibrant

Hello there Vibrant users,
I was just wondering if any1 know how to setup an unlocked vibrant with at&t $10 data plan. I bought my phone already unlocked and root. When i insert my sim card, it's says i have 3g network and data was up and running when i don't have a data plan yet. I just recently added the $10 data plan on my phone but don't know if i am using it. It already have at&t settings already before i got the phone and does MMS share the same thing or seperate. Can any1 help?
Thanks.
Once you add a data plan to your account that's pretty much it. Are you saying it isn't connecting?
Oh I see. It is connecting but I was just wondering the part when i got the phone without the data plan yet, the 3g was up running already before i got the $10 data plan that's all. Oh yeah what about the MMS? Do I have to do something about that too or it'll just use the data plan to get it.
I have had a Vibrant unlocked and rooted for several months now and currently using the At&t $10 (non-smartphone) unlimited data plan. This does work and I haven't had to pay those ridiculous prices for data since my Torch.

The 3G will always be up and running because ATT wants to make money from you even if you dont have a data plan. I'm actually thinking of switching to the HTC Incredible S just because it has the other data frequency. Not sure how much of a difference it would make though.

AT&T, International SGS2 and medianet

I have a question for anyone who's using the i9100 with AT&T in the USA. Whoever has the $15 unlimited medianet plan, are you able to connect to the AT&T APN "phone"? From my understanding it's only available if you have the "Smartphone data plans" and it's faster in my area H+ speeds. Would it be possible to upgrade to one of these smartphone data plans then downgrade back to the medianet plan and still have access to "phone"?
bump? anyone?
bump? anyone? I tried searching and haven't found a conclusive answer to this.
I bought a white one and on media net no problem with H+ speed for one night then I got txt in the morning saying they changed me to the 2GB blackberry data plan. AT&T has seen my white one as blackberry...I am hoping it is just for that specific IMEI for the white one only....bcoz I wanna buy another one to try....the 1st one I sold to a friend that has unlimited data smartphone plan.

[Q] GS2 (i9100) on AT&T: Preserving unlimited smartphone data?

I'm grandfathered into smartphone unlimited data on AT&T and thinking about getting an i9100. Will I just be able to move my sim card from my current Android phone into the i9100, and everything will continue as normal?
Or, because the i9100 is not recognized by AT&T, do I need to call AT&T before I move my sim card to the new phone? In other words, will AT&T's system recognize the i9100 as a "dumbphone" and automatically switch me to the dumbphone data plan? Or by default will AT&T assuming I am still using a smartphone and leave my unlimited smartphone data plan in place?
I realize that I could use the dumbphone unlimited data plan and save some money, but I do not want to do that because in the future I might switch back to an AT&T branded device, and I do not want to lose my unlimited smartphone data plan if/when I do that.
Thanks.
Yes, you can just swap in your old SIM Card and your done. At&t's system cannot detect your SGS2 so all they see is your previous phone.

Good news. Thanks.
I can attest to that, I swapped the SIM from my iPhone 3GS into my i9100 and I'm still on the unlimited data plan.

Yup, verified here too. Inspire 4G to i9100.

I was told by an AT&T rep that the iPhone communicates with Apple servers and you should call them up and have them switch you to a standard unlimited data package. I did that with my i9100, so far so good.
AT&T seems to be pretty good at allowing us to keep the unlimited data plans no matter what phone you use.
HSPA+ devices don't perform well unless using the "phone" APN, which requres a "4G" plan - AT&T has begun throttling the old wap.cingular APN.
HOWEVER: If you're on a smartphone unlimited plan, you can get grandfathered into an unlimited "4G" HSPA+ plan.
I STRONGLY suggest trying to do so in an AT&T corporate-owned store - avoid "mall kiosk" style places like the plague, and same for their telephone call centers.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm actually coming over from another "4G" HSPA+ Android phone, so I am already on the "4G" plan. So I guess I should be good on AT&T's end... I'll just need to make sure the APN is correctly set up.
If you're already on the 4G unlimited plan (soc code HSDPPB) that should be sufficient to work with the Phone APN. If you're on the 3G plan (soc code DPPB), you may have problems connecting to the Phone APN, but should be OK with the wap.cingular APN.
If you need to upgrade to the 4G plan, you should be able to do it at a corporate-owned AT&T store, as Entropy512 suggests. That's what I did about 6 weeks ago, and had no problems.

AT&T users ..Why Not GoPhone?

I asked this in the Note section as they have a different issue as ATT CAN see their devices as "smartphones" Many have spoken of GoPhone as an option for UL data and messaging.
We are off contract with two i9100s on $15 MediaNet sharing 700 minutes with NO messaging plan. We are paying $100 a month.
Seems to me we can transfer to a GoPhone plan for $50 with unlimited everything using any device (except maybe the iPhone) Why not use that advantage especially since LTE is not widely available and some may not really need the extra speeds.
What am I missing? We already get 3G+ (H) data speeds using the wap.cingular apn provisioned for MediaNet using our actual i9100 IMEIs
Does gophone sim work on your sgs2? A month ago i tried putting gosim to my sgs2 unkocked but didn't work. Dunno why.

The gophone plan suffers from a download speed cap, compared to just being on the medianet plan.

Really? Didn't know that because they are selling the Captivate on the GoPhone plan.

No I am not on that plan I am doing some research into possibly switching to it though. I am reading conflicting information on download speeds. Guess I should just call ATT.
EDIT called ATT. Claimed Speeds were the same as what we were getting now on MediaNet But Data would cost the same for a smart phone as a regular plan. So technically one could do the same as we are doing ow on the regular plan. give them the IMEI of the phone we are using and it will show up as a Dumbphone and get $50 Unlimited everything using the MediaNet APN
ATT has our SGS i9100 IMEIs If they did a sweep they would see them anyway. So I gave them the real ones. I have been on mine since last July. I may switch over to Gophone. Probably only need to call them and say switch us. The Additional benefit would be messaging which we do not currently have and unlimited calling.
We are paying $100 now without messaging and 700 minutes.

If you're on an unlimited data with caps, then hotspot is possible without any extra charges or plan changes.
If you're on the truly unlimited 4g data plan without caps, then you will have to pay for hotspot services, which is 14.99 a month extra. You will have separate mbs for this.

I'm on the unlimited 4G, no cap, no tethering included plan, and tethering to my tablet for streaming on a daily basis.
HTC One
i was also confused with their plan, of course getting HTC one i opted the unlimited plan $50 talk/text $20 data plan unlimited. but they are saying you can only use the hotspot feature up to 500mb only and after that you'll get throttled.
so i tried yesterday tethered my ipad mini and watch netflix. i wasted like 2gb and no sign of throttling.
anyway, if i got throttled with the mobile hotspot. i can always use wifi tether and use it from there. so far so good with the mobile hotspot built-in
Hey guys,
Im on the unlimited no caps 4g plan too but for some reason I can't tether with my mac or any device.... I even tried changing my user agent strings in my browsers to no avail...always getting directed to the tmobile hotspot page...
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Actually, I just re-read this and found I missed something...
We can keep our Truly no caps 4g and add unlimited hotspot for 14.99?! I didn't get this option when I called in...
Aparently it seems like the truly 4g is a "grandfathered" plan already...

I just changed my simple choice 20 4.5 gig data to a 20 dollar unlimited two days ago. I will try mobile hotspot soon, to see if it goes over the 500mb without a instant message from them lol.

When T-mobile first did their unlimited plan, tethering was not included. It was only included on the 2BG and 5GB option.
However, recently they added the tethering option to the unlimited plan. If you had the new unlimited plan when it first went live (like me) you will need to have T-mobile change it to the new unlimited to include tethering. (500MB of data cap applies to the tethering.)
The only reason I know this is I kept a 2GB plan for the tethering, but when buying my HTC ONE I saw they changed the plans again.
