The lock button randomly gets stuck on my phone and sometimes just doesn't work. The button feels fine physically, but it just doesn't work. Any suggestions other than sending it back to Samsung?
Thanks for any help.

Just to clarify, the button is not physically stuck in place right?

If I had this problem, I would probably take apart the back half off the phone. I'd then check to see if I can re-seat the button properly. It's not too difficult to take it apart.

The button is seated properly. It still works physically as it should and it doesn't get physically stuck.

Ah ok just realized my mistake before you replied.
There is an app called Button Savior you could use.
if your power button is messed up. and you didnt do it. Of course warranty that thing.
I guess my best bet is to suck it up and send it in for warranty repair. I just don't want to be phoneless.

There are programs you can use that allow you to turn your phone off and on by a quick shake, proximity sensor, etc..

So I've been playing with my phone for the last couple of days and recently I've been getting random reboots. I thought it was the ROM so I rolled back to a ROM I wasn't getting the issue and experienced the same. I did switch from CWM to TWRP and started getting the problem right around the same time. What happens is the phone goes dark like it's going to reboot, it does it's vibrate to say it's awake and repeats the vibrate roughly once a second until I push the power button a few times or until I pull the battery. I've been able to replicate this by holding the power button down.
Has anyone experienced this issue?

it still functions but it feels touchy. it's very easy to activate it. I'm wondering if the hardware switch is loose and out of place. I'm still debating on tearing it down or calling Samsung and getting it replaced, but I'm not sure if I really want a referb or some tech playing with my phone.
A referb word be preferable to a broken power button.

haha I doubt it, I'll call them tomorrow to find out and if it's going to be too long I'll just tear it down and take a look at it. I have been meaning to look at the possibilities of adding an inductive charger to the phone, maybe this is the opportunity.
I'm having exact same problem. power buttong gets stuck if I press it. phone reboots and just vibrates after reboot without going to recovery or samsung logo. I have stopped using power button and enabled wakeup screen on volume button (SlimROM). Also added "Power" to power widgets in notification drawer settings. I try to avoid pressing power as much as possible.
i'm thinking of calling Samsung support or open phone myself to check it out. let me know if you got it fixed by Samsung. how long did it take to get the phone back? did you restore phone to stock rom before sending it? was it covered under warrenty?

I have an issue similar to this, im thinking my issue is loose connections. what mine does is turn on for a bit and then restart. I've been able to resolve mine by flashing this rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261598
via odin.
I would try taking your phone apart and cleaning the power button with a q-tip and a LITTLE alcohol. if that fails i'd try to flash the rom. Good Luck
attends nimeno
did flashing the rom every fix it op? or did you just go ahead and replace the power button? if the rom did fix it, can someone repost the link? the link is broken.
Again i would try cleaning the power button off first.
to do so:
there should be 9 small phillips screws around the battery -remove those
then the metallic looking rim around the phone has clips that clip the back portion to the rest of the phone. use a finger nail and seperate the grey from the white around the phone, unlatching the clips. remove the back cover and locate the power button(on the left when looking at it from the back. dap the q-tip in a tiny bit of alcohol barely moistening the cotton. apply the q-tip to the button getting a small amount on it and press the button until it clicks smoothly. on the cover you took off you can remove the button it has a little rubber angle on each end holding it in. clean around that also. reassemble and test.

Personally I wouldn't ever Odin with this issue, a reboot while flashing a new bootloader potentially boom. My issue was persistent through all roms and even in recovery which lead me to believe it was hardware. What I did to solve the issue was I pulled the case off, battery out and just played with the button for an hour or so. Felt how it clicked and if it was clicking funny. After that it worked fine. By playing with it I don't mean mashing on it, I mean gently and normal clicking, feeling where it caught and didn't. What it felt like to me was some lint under the button which eventually worked it's way out. Hope this helps

I had this issue of my power button sticking today. I took the phone apart and used some rubbing alcohol on a q-tip to get some on the button and pressed it repeatedly. I did that a few times and used some canned air to dry it out a few times. Put it all back together and button is working like new again.

If its not staying on at all then i agree with you. But if the problem is off and on and you've already tried cleaning the button thats really one of your last resorts. if the phone reboots during a flash you will get a firmware download error and you will have to reflash. may take a few tries but if the phone eventually stays on it'll be fine.

As I agree with you. Glad we're on the same page with a power issue like that, I'd check via the recovery image to see if it happened there and continue troubleshooting.

dweezy you must have super tough fingernails. I recommend two guitar picks, working them as a pair -- one pixk to separate the bezel from the body, the other to hold the place as you move around the bezel.

Phone is stuck in a boot loop and this is what I know so far. Phone is on stock ROM, power button is working fine, I can get to recovery and OS and download mode, and while phone was charging I took the battery out and the phone keeps vibrating. I now know it's a hardware problem for me (I think), but I can not pin point where. Any advise would be helpful cause I really love my note and this is just breaking my heart. :crying:

When you get into recovery does the phone stay on? If so how long 10 mins? Hours? If it stays on I would assume its software.
Phone stays on forever in those modes, I'm gonna flash a different ROM to see what happens .... so I'm back to say it's a hardware problem. Same exact thing happens with liquid JB, paranadroid, and CM 10...did a clean wipe before installing each one too. Friend pointed me to some sites talking about a battery failure causing phones to do that so I'm gonna order a new one and see what happens...if this fails I have to get a new phone...and continue to work on my baby.
The power button just gets stuck when pressed on from the top.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Or is this normal seeing that it's made out of plastic?
Anyone?

Not normal. My white European S3 doesn't have this. My friends blue one neither.
You could try to RMA or get use to pressing it in the middle.

Hello Dear XDA members,
So I have an Amaze that you guys helped me root and install custom ROM on back in Jan, thanks! Now the power button is going out, it's very hard to turn the screen on and off. I have been using the camera button to turn the screen on but I can't turn it off with that button. If the phone runs out of battery I have a really hard time turning it back on.
I called HTC and they said I they will send me an RMA code but they didn't, after a few days I called back and they said while its still under warranty they can't help me because the phone was a demo unit originally. Well I got it from Craigslist not Tmobile so maybe that's why.
Anyway, is there a way to fix the button? I mean 11 months is a very short period for a $599 phone! Anyone knows how to fix this? I really appreciate it. Thanks !!
Ouch. I bought mine from craigslist too but checked my imei before buying. You can use a widget that will act as as power button. See if you can still push the button with ease if you take the phone out of its frame.

Well I guess his biggest sticking point is how to turn the phone on without a working power button. Same thing happens with Nexus One and there are easy workarounds (by plugging in and remove/insert battery repetitively). Is there such a work around for the Amaze?

I came from the nexus one to the amaze when it came out. Having broken power button phobia from the start, I've found "screen off and lock" from market for turning off the screen, and "quick boot" also from the market for reboot, etc. Don't know of any methods off hand to turn it on, once off...
I did however notice that with the back plate off it's easier to get a firm click pushing the power button with just my finger.

Check to see if its the actual button thats not working properly, or if its the back cover. My phone sometimes doesn't have the power button register when i press it down the first time, but its just the button on the back cover that's wearing down and not making contact with the phone. Take a look and hopefully thats all it is, and all you have to do is replace the back cover which runs you anywhere from 10-15 bucks on ebay :good:
google 'button remapper apk' and use it to set your camcorder button as your new power button.

What andy55 said works but only if the phone isn't completely off. This only works in sleep mode.
Also, try taking off the back cover and press and hold the rubber area with your fingernail where the power button should be. I found the button on the cover wasn't making adequate contact with the phone.
Hi guys, I had no idea where else to post this.
My phone fell off, and althougth the screen was intact, the lcd broke and I had to replace it.
So, after the replacement, now the vibration is softer, and kind of sounds lower as well.
Any ideas on how to fix it myself without taking it back to the people who fixed it (because it was a pain to have my phone back) or any other place.
Thanks a lot.

I tested the vibration and is softer than it used to be.
I guess they messed it up when they replaced the screen.

Hold down power button for awhile. Capacitive buttons will flash then reboot.

I honestly thought you were trolling as well, good trick to know.
its to prevent accidental button combos while its in you pocket or bag. it uses the light and proximity sensors to determine if its in a pocket or bag
I about laughed, then I knew you know what you are talking about, so I went and did your suggestion, and lmao, it worked. I was going crazy in my dark dungeon of an office, then I saw the light. Thanks for that.
Aroma is not very stable. I personally use up and down keys instead of touch screen and it works much better. Also I try to not rush. Once you get to next screen, wait 2 to 5 seconds then use up and down and then power to select or push buttons. Works for me every time.
