Sony EP851 CANCELLED!!! SPA-ACC11 TO BE OFFICIAL BOOST CHARGER - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

A heads up from my contact with Sony, the reason or the EP851s very limited availability and people being shipped an EP850 instead of an EP851 is because they are CANCELLING the EP851. Instead this will be the Official Sony Boost charger, the SPA-ACC11. Part of the reason for the cancellation is to integrate accessories under the Sony model numbering scheme. The SPA prefix stands for SmartPhone Accessory and will be Sony's new model numbering scheme for all Xperia related accessories. All Xperia related accessories in the future will start with SPA. ACC stands for AC Charger obviously. The SPA-ACC11 just debuted in Japan and should be in the USA by October and the rest of the world by the end of the year. Here is the link to the Japanese site:
http://www.sony.jp/av-acc/products/SPA-ACC11/feature_1.html
UPDATE: Now available for worldwide purchase HERE:

Isn't the EP850 the boost charger? At least mine charges the XPERIA in less than an hour. It's got an output of 1500mA... The charger of my Galaxy Tab 10.1 is 2000 mA so uhm... what am I missing here?

Too big.

Awwww I think Sony is messing with us..

What you are missing is it's just part of the transition from Sony Ericsson to Sony. The EP850 will cease to exist. The SPA-ACC11 is the Sony replacement to the Sony Ericsson EP850 going into the future that's all.

EP850 is the included fast charger (1500mA) in the phone package.
EP851 is just the retail version of the same charger.
I guess that's what had him confused.

Well regardless the EP chargers were a Sony Ericsson product. This thread is just a heads up highlighting one of the changes that's coming as Mobile is now a part of Sony. Sony Ericsson EP850/851 being discontinued ----> Sony SPA-ACC11 taking its place as the official 'boost' charger.
SPA stands for SmartPhone Accessory. ACC stands for AC Charger. Much better than the Sony Ericsson numbering scheme.

Looks a bit bulky to me. They could have just renumbered the ep850/851 instead, no? Personally I'm just using my nexus 7 charger (2000 mAh) if I need to fast charge and it means I only need 1 charger if going anywhere. Surely this was the whole point of standardising USB connectors on most devices.

How fast does the Nexus 7 charger charges the Xperia S?
On my local Store they have Nexus 7 chargers for about 25€. Whereas they have the EP851 for 35€.

Xperia TX will ship with "EP-880" in Taiwan

I have never timed it tbh but it's output on the label is 2000mah so I would imagine its at least s a quick as the Sony one. Only use it for convenience TBH. Also in using an xperia u which also supports fast charge

The EP880 will be the 'pack in' charger included with phones cause it is of cheaper quality (designed and made for Sony by Salcomp http://www.salcomp.com/en/) and won't be sold in retail. As far as I know there won't be an EP881 for retail. The SPA-ACC11 will be Sony's own higher quality charger actually designed and produced by Sony charger intended to be sold stand alone as an accessory. You can now buy the SPA-ACC11 here straight from Japan:
http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/pure-m/item/4905524899825/
The SPA-ACC11 is also perfect as the matching official adaptor to go along with the Xperia P, T, TX , V or ION docks as the docks do not include an AC adaptor.

I use the charger from my Touchpad, which is 2000mah (I think).
Takes about 90minutes to charge the Xperia S from <5% to full.

Well that's what my random Nokia charger that I found abandoned on one shelf takes to charge my Xperia S. 90-100 min. So it makes me wonder if non-Sony high power chargers trigger the so called fast charge. 90 min is slow on my record book.
It looks quite old and it has 1200ma. Can't tell to which Nokia model it belonged to.
I also tried with a newer Iphone 4S 1amp charger and it takes AGES to charge my Xperia S. Like 3 hour. I don't know why. Do the math, it's illogical.

My Xperia S refuses to charge at over 500mAh unless i am using the official supplied USB cable.
If i connect a generic USB cable to the supplied EP800 charger it will only charge at a maximum of 500mAh rather than the maximum of 850mAh.

retail EP881:
what is the difference with EP881 and EP851? and why still EP, not SPA-ACC?

Not sure of the current, but my HP Touchpad charger has got my U from 0% (couldn't turn on) to 76% in an hour so far.
That's a 2A output.

I was asking of EP881 vs EP851

Ep800 vs ep850

I just found that the charger came with my phone is ep800, 850 mA output, but i read somewhere about ep850 also came with xs in other market, ep850 got 1500 mA output and it will charge much faster than ep800. So i wonder which charger is better for battery life?

Different markets, different chargers. What the hell? It was one of the selling points, wasn't it?

The real question now is... if you have the EP800.. how can you get the EP850
I bought my phone from Phones4U UK, so I have the EP800
Just a thought, the EP800 is charging faster than the previous chargers so no complaints about it

I bought mine from phones4u and i too have the EP800 charger. Cant say i have noticed it charging that much quicker than my previous phone the Arc. Still charges reasonably quick though.
o2 and ep800 charges so slowly.
I just used my Transformer Prime's charger since it outputs at least 1.2A, much higher than the EP800. Charges almost 20% in about 10-15 minutes.
My charger seems to say ep600 on it.
o2 UK (also with annoying locked bootloader, but that's another issue)

As far as i know, it's the heat that's relevant.
And i gotta say, when charging with my EP850, the phone doesn't get hot at all.
Not even warm.
I got the answer from talk.sonymobile.com:
Both are compatible with your phone but you will not get EP850 in the box. The phone comes with EP800 (as you already have noticed) and if you want the other one you have to contact a store that sell Sony products.
The battery should not be affected in negative terms by any of these.

Just wondering if there is a portable USB charger for the Xperia S that has an output that is greater than 1A? Maybe 2 if possible?

YES! From Sony themselves at a 1.5A output to match their fast charger EP851 for the new NXT series phones. It has a 4000mah capacity so you can charge up your phone twice with it and the unit itself recharges fairly fast straight from AC. It was JUST released in Japan a couple days ago se we should see it around the world in the next few months unless you want to import. The model is CP-A2LAS. Be very careful with the model number as they have older models that DO NOT have the 1.5A output.
http://www.sony.jp/battery/products/CP-A2LAS/
Sony also released a matching white SUPER SHORT micro-USB cable to go along with the charger with a really convenient length of only 20cm. You can get it from this ebay seller here in Japan who will also be carrying the charger in the coming days so I will order both items from him together:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/OFFICIAL-SON...847620?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item19d2626ac4
The same ebay seller also has the Sony official Screen protectors from Japan for the Xperia S including an anti-fingerprint and anti-reflective model. I ordered the anti-fingerprint model and it is THE BEST, much better quality than the one included in the Xperia S box underneath the instruction manuals:

Xperia S EP850 Fast Charger

This is a question for those of you who got the EP850 fast charger rather than the normal EP800 charger in your Sony Xperia S box. How long does it take to charge from 0-100%?
Using the EP800 it takes me 2 and a half hours from flat to full.
Thanks.
It depends; if you don't use the phone while charging, it sometimes can be done in about 1.5 hours
Maybe even faster, but I'm not sure about that
I go one with my SxS here in Holland

If anyone is thinking of forking out about £30 on the 850 charger don't bother....try this instead:
Charger:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UK-3-Pin-AC-Mains-to-2A-USB-Power-Wall-Adapter-Adaptor-Plug-Charger-240v-13A-CE-/330753376119?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Other&hash=item4d026fff77
Along with this cable:
http://dx.com/p/usb-data-charging-extension-cable-for-samsung-p1000-black-91141
So for about £5.50 you have a faster charger compared to the 850 for a quarter of the price! full charge in about 70 mins!

The cable from DX is a male / female usb charge cable which means the male usb goes into the phone charger and leaves the female side of the usb cable to take your original sony charge/data cable. Now the DX cable has bridged connectors to alow charge only which carries through on the sony cable and into your phone therefore fast charge
Last nite i orded one of these little adapters to use instead of sony cable to see if i can get more juice into the phone
Micro usb adaptor
I know people say that 0.5m length of Sony cable will not affect charging as in resistance wise but i have a feeling it does and i wont be happy until i try out the adaptor, I'll let ye know how it goes when it arrives from China in 3 weeks time
Cool, what was the result?

Sony wall charger not performing as rated??

I felt that the stock Sony wall charger was not performing as rate 1500mah.
Z ultra has a 3050mah which means that the 1500mah charger will need like max 2.5hours to full charge the battery.
But mine need more tha
n that.
So i use an amperage meter to measure it and found that is just 900mah/1500mah.
I tried my S4 charger and is rated at 1300mah.
In this measurement i used the same Sony cable which is connected to my Z Ultra.
Did anyone here have this issue too??
I'm using the magnetic dock, and i'm getting everything between 800-1300mAh. It takes around 2 hours to fully charge it.

I am using an app called battery monitor widget and I am experiencing the same thing. Normally seems to charge between 800-900 at best I have seen 1100 but never close to 1500 or so.
I am planning on getting the "quick" charger to see if something is wrong with mine.
This is using the stock cable, if I use a different usb cable (thicker even, will not even get to 500).

Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 - Someone tried already ?

Hello,
Did anyone tried this new chargers ?
Where can i buy worldwide shipping ? can't find anywhere :/
thanks
cables
I'm planning to buy a quick charger for my Z3. Maybe i'll buy this one. I just want to know, what cable should i use? or will the default cable of the Z3 would enable quick charge? Here is the charger i'm planning to buy. Is quick charge cable dependent as well? can't find any post about the cables.
http://www.pure-gear.com/extreme-usb-wall-charger-849.html
I thought it was a Quickcharger (EP880), the one that came with the phone.
It is EP881.
If you buy a EP881, they give you a EP880 power adapter(this already comes with the phone) and a different looking usb cable. so i would say if you buy a z3 you already have a quick charger. someone in the z3 compact forums confirms this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/accessories/magnetic-dock-quick-charger-t2926784
also if you google EP881 you can see multiple images of the EP880 power adapter.
i hope this clears up any confusion
EP880 is not a Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 charger
FYI, just received a Qualcomm Quick charge 2.0 compatible charger and the Z3 definitely takes advantage of it. I have the Tenergy Turbo charger and the light is blue for normal charging and green for Quick charge 2.0. The only downside is it doesn't seem to work using the magnetic charging port, only directly into USB.
Roughly how fast do you get a full charge?
I read that with 2.0 it rapid charges to ~65% and then normal rate.

Not sure since I only had it on for a little while testing today. No I don't feel like running down my battery and testing it, it takes to long to run down the battery
It absolutely, definitely charges at QC 2.0 speeds though, but only via the USB directly into the phone, not through the magnetic charger.

If my memory stands correct, box version of the charger rating was mentioned as 3000mAh or 2000mAH. I might have misread it in the frenzy of getting Z3 and I am the 1st buyer in Chennai, atleast that's wat the retailer told me.

"quick charge" or charging at 5v 2A (2000mA) works through the magnetic charging port. This is still very fast.
Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0, which charges at 9v 2A does not work through the magnetic port, which is not a surprise to me.
