I finally perm rooted my phone for the first time ever today, however, I have noticed a significant drop of 4g speeds and overall reception. I was running stock everything before and now I'm just stock with perm root using hasoons toolkit. Any idea what is causing this? Is it the perm root?
Root doesn't mess with your root, maybe you're just being paranoid about rooting having effects on your device?

I installed the official ICS leak. Now I'm trying to go back to my original ROM but in order to do that I need to gain temp root and follow the instructions here to remove the "mainver is newer" error: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1467099
I tried a few temp-root methods including the modified ZergRush one and "Vivid Root 3". Everything throws up an error that I don't have Android 2.3. So, any idea how to gain temp root with the ICS leak?
If it is posted somewhere and I missed I apologize.

You can't temp root.
edit: you can't downgrade without S-OFF either, so it doesn't matter that there is no temp root.
There is a s-off thread floating around. Try to off it then go back to gb

Ok well not what I was hoping but thanks for the replies.
Let me ask your advice. My phone has been borked and so I thought perhaps upgrading to ICS would fix it. Well now that it is obvious it won't I want to take it in to Verizon and get a replacement or have them figure out what is wrong. But I doubt they will take it back if I have a leaked official version of ICS on it. Do you think they will? Will they know if a I perm root, install GB again, unroot it?
I am new to rooting, and decided to root to try out WiFiTether... Decided I don't really need it.
I rooted through Zedomax's method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671577
I have no real need nor desire to remain rooted as I don't really do much modifying of the phone or custom ROMs anyway.
So what's *my* method for getting rid of root and applying the OTA?
Can I just UN-Root through SuperSU then run the OTA?
Thanks all... And I hope you don't consider this a duplicate post, as I have read all the other OTA/Root posts so far and could not find anything that was really related to my scenario of not wanting to remain rooted...

I unroot through SuperSU and the run the OTA but failed. I follow qbking "How to Unroot / Unbrick the HTC EVO 4G LTE - Latest" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NChdbyaHy3k and after this run the OTA without issues.
I believe I read that you have to have the stock recovery to flash the update.
If you don't care then just go for it...you can always use htcdev if you need to in the future
It sounds like you still have the stock recovery so you should be able to run the ota.

I'm in the same position as the OP and the OTA didn't work for me. Just does the red triangle and stops. Rebooting pots me back to the same status, no update

Well, I did the OTA and it all seemed to work fine... However, I cannot seem to uninstall SuperSU.... Other than that I *think* I'm good.
Is this the correct procedure for a clean root, with s-off, and twrp recovery? My phone has never been rooted, or taken an OTA updates.
1) Root with zedomax -- This is now done, and the phone is rooted. Root apps run fine.
2) Use Lazy Panda to achieve s-off.
3) Install TWRP (I guess via GooManager)
I'm assuming after these steps, my phone apps are all still there, although it would be safer to install Titanium after step (1), and back them up.
Let me know if I have this right. Thanks in advance...
Yep, that's pretty much it. Like you said, you may want to use TB before getting s-off (just in case). Otherwise, do just like you say and you should be fully rooted with s-off and custom recovery. Good luck

Hi, guys -
Up til recently I was running Viper ICS after downgrading to hboot 1.4, and liked it. However, I had to revert everything to stock and take the OTA update in order to get Sprint's help to troubleshoot a text messaging issue.
Now my phone seems to be having digitizer issues (doesn't detect some touches, detects phantom touches, etc), so I'm going to exchange it at Best Buy next week.
Unfortunately, in the meantime, I'm heading off on a short-notice business trip this Sunday and I'd like to have the thing be rooted so that I can tether etc. while I'm out of town.
Every guide I find involves flashing various roms and almost all involve the HTC dev unlock which according to the HTC site, clears your data. I don't want to mess with all of that before a trip that I don't have much time to prepare for.
So, long story short, is there a way to JUST get root on my existing rom? I don't care about custom recoveries or any of that since I won't be flashing any custom ROM's before I swap the thing out.
If all else fails I can get by with a non-root tether app, but I've had awful luck getting those to work, so I'm hopeful someone will have a suggestion.
Thanks...
You unlocked with HTCDev and you see tutorial rooting on xda thread.

The only way to root without losing data is to temp root. Unfortunately, the temp root methods are notoriously unstable on the 3d. In fact, when I tried to temp root, my phone bootlooped.
Edit: no temp root methods work anymore. See ramjet's post below.
There are no temp root methods that work on the Sprint ICS 2.89.651.2 build as HTC has patched the exploit that was being used in previous builds.
ClockworkMod Tether is a USB tether app that works pretty well without root.

Weird, I made a short post thanking you for the answer but apparently it never showed up.
Anyway, I kind of suspected that that might be the case, thanks for confirming it. I ended up just using CWM tether for non-root users and it was fine.
Thanks again.

Perhaps a silly question, but do I have to root after getting S-Off, or does the ROM I install (MeanBean) already have the application built in (and is it good enough?) I'm not sure it the root functions are below the OS level or at it.
Flash twrp thru bootloader, all the custom roms have su in it, your good to go
