Hi guys,
I thought I rooted my phone succesfully, but after installing "Fasterfix" from market it said "can't get root".. but I think I know where the problem lies.
Let me explain the situation.
phone:
Sony Xperia U
ST25i
Kernel-version: 2.6.35.7+
Build-number: 6.0.B.3.184 (It was initially 6.0.B.1.... I used SEUS before rooting..)
I'm planning to root my phone so I can use couple of apps to the fullest, that need root acces.
I followed this guide to unlock bootloader: http://www.xperiaplanet.nl/unlockbl.html
I downloaded & installed the fastboot drivers AND the fastboot binaries from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526866
I followed this guide to root: http://www.techclap.com/9935/root-sony-xperia-u-lt25i-phone-tutorial/
I used the Stock Kernel for Xperia U from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1717270 (this is probably the reason why it is not rooted? I flashed my phone with a non rooted stock kernel?..)
The questions:
1. All the nessecary downloads, the drivers, binairies, kernels, etc etc..., are these made/Edited by users and non official devs, or are these from Sony officially? How can one be sure these things we install on our phone are safe without malicious code? In the end it's made by non-official Sony devs. Correct me if I'm wrong here, I don't want to kick someone in the shin..
2. Why aren't those downloads (drivers, binairies, kernels, etc etc.) not linked to the offical sony website?
3. To just have a rooted phone, without the extra bells & whistels most kernels and roms come with. Is it enough to flash with a stock kernel, like I did?
4. How can I undo everything I have done, and have my stock phone back?
5. When rooted, can I still have an official auto update to ICS?
Yes I have red most of the sticky threads, but still.. I need some help.
Thanks in advance,
Is there an app called superuser in the app drawer?

No, there is not
Then its not rooted. The kernel mustn't have flashed, did you def unlock the bootloader ok?
Look for the Xperia S guides as it's the same method, just use a U kernel instead

Okey thanks m8.
yes the bootloader is unlocked. It says so in the service info menu.
I'll try the flash later. First I want to know for sure if all my date is going to be safe.. I mean, is it safe to use email and other confidential things on a phone that is flashed with custom (non-official) apps and drivers that are made by non-offical people.. I find so very little about security on these topics.. It's like everybody is just flashing and installing third-party software like its nothing.. But you can never now.. What if a dev puts malicious code in a dowload (like the fastboot drivers, fastboot binaries, kernel, ...) that will send thrusty info to him/her..
Can somebody please clarifie this for me?
Just download su from the market and then any root checking app. Maybe you already have root and are just missing the superuser app.
I had to install a superuser app myself too but I rooted with another method.

That's how I did it and all good. And really quick amd easy.
If the post makes little sense, read the various threads about Recovery, Bootloader unlocking and Root. It's all here.

I followed that and got "cannot download boot.img, device needs to be rooted first". Well,if I was rooted i wouldn't be doing that in the first place!?
You're doing something wrong then
You have unlocked BL?
Unlocking the boot loader is the way forward.

Thanks for the replays, that was the problem. I thought it was unlocked, but actually wasn't. However I rooted, then installed CM 7 beta-nice,but still not ready for primetime. Now the question is what to do to return to stock rom-just flash it via flashtool? And will the root remain?
Clear/Reset Everything and then go through the procedure again (without re-unlocking BL obviously).
Follow the steps this time...
I suggest you use this ftf (Global 2.3.4) as it works perfectly.

Thanks again it worked flawlessly Now,do you know if there is a list or something about which system apps are safe to remove from the stock rom?

Are there still bugs with the doomlord kernel? I need WiFi absolutely, don't have a data plan...
The DoomKernel is to be avoided for now,as the Wifi and vibration are not working, tried it yesterday. I can live without the vibra, but Wifi is a must.

Ok so I've made a video for the guys having problems when trying to obtain root access on Gingerbread.
A mention before starting to watch: At 9:41, when the busybox is configured, the video of the phone "gone" too fast, and when the busybox is written to the phone the phone was already rebooting in the video, so don't understand that you must write busybox when the phone is rebooting. No, the busybox is written as the other steps were made, when the phone is powered on and connected with USB Debugging ON.
I hope this will help you to succeed in gaining root access in Gingerbread.

Things you need to root your Sony Xperia S without unlocking the bootloader:
-Flashtool( http://androxyde.github.com/ );
-Gingerbread firmware( http://www.xdafileserver.nl/Files/S...LT26i)/STOCK ROMS/GB/LT26I_6.0.A.3.75_CE1.zip );
-Ice Cream Sandwich( http://www.xdafileserver.nl/Files/S... ROMS/ICS/LT26i_6.1.A.0.452_Generic_DE.ftf.7z )
-the Rooting Toolkit I used because there are many versions( http://www.mediafire.com/?nnavv55iy51i34w );
-Flashmode drivers(mine were auto installed by the phone so I'm sorry but I can't provide a download link);
-Patience.
Good luck!
thanks!
i'm sure it will help a lot of people

ICS can be rooted on LOCKED bootloaders as well.
Link didn't work for me but is this just for root on stock firmware? Is there a way in which it will bypass bootloader to install custom ROM?

You can flash custom ROMs which doesn't require custom kernel. You can flash Recovery(after you are rooted) using the files I've attached and then flash the ROM from Recovery.
Hi all,
This forum does not look so active as the one i came from (Xperia X10) so i'm forced to open this thread in hopes that more people will see it and be able to help me...
So the situation is very simple:
1. I am on newest ICS 6.1.1.B.1.54 - which apparently can not be rooted yet
2. My bootloader is locked and can not be unlocked (it says bootloader unlockable: NO (and i can not continue the process))
If there are no solutions currently for my situation then i would just like to ask:
3. Is there some way that i can get some options when i open the notification bar? like wifi/screen rotation etc. It is what i miss the most on this stock ICS rom.
MY IDEA for a solution to:
1. is it safe/possible to use flashtool and flash for example LT22i - 6.1.B.0.544 -Central Europe - ICS? Then root and install CWM and then custom rom for locked BL
2. i have no idea but apparently the official repair shop can change the NO to YES - if so, can i do it somehow myself?
3. no idea...
Any comment would be appreciated, even if nothing can be done, please someone who has knowledge about this...help
use notification toggles or powerful control to get toggles in notification bar....
flashtool is a very stable software for nxt series and previous xperias.. used it several times on my xu...
I think u can root ur .54 firmware through binary's rooting method....have u tried it yet???

flashtool i have used on X10 and found it very good, but i was not sure if it is OK to use it now on the XP while my BL is locked and i have no root, i don't want to create more problems for myself than i already have
i have tried binary's method and it says that it is successful but it does not work, there is a discussion about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020539&page=1
o o .... I think u should wait a bit... there are several developers for xperia p who will find a way out...flashtool is safe for locked bootloaders as I and several others used it..

I flashed this and is working quite well. No problems so far.
Flashing is also safe with locked bootloader. I've been flashing like crazy since I rooted my phone 4 days ago.
Just do backups and follow instructions carefully.
Hey guys. Im having trouble rooting my wt19i Live Walkman Android.
Noob question, but i cant find any other place to ask - could someone point me to a useful thread, or a new method
I have attempted the DOOMLORD method, but the zip files always fail (from all 3 locations ive downloaded them from). The Eroot method doesn't pick up my device. And the Flashtool method cant work out the drivers.
Any ideas would be great!

Both of these were hopeful. it seems i have a problem with my zip tools. but im using 3 different tools (winzip, zip and IZArc)..... All have either 'CRC header" problems or 'CRC failed - File is Broken'.
Any ideas?
Im soo sorry for being the biggest n00b. but none of the other websites point out what this issue is! The FAQ's on these zip tools are not proving anything. FYI, the file it always has a problem with is the runme.bat
Use my pack, just disable antivirus
For what do you need zipping tools? To unpack?
Try downloading the files again and extract them using 7zip (maybe reinstall it) and try it again

No it's not. You should be able to root without unlocking the bootloader
Try installing PC Companion or SUS and Flashtool (drivers) again for the drivers and try all methods like mentioned in my guide, eroot or cydia impactor

Try installing pdanet
Try installing pdanet software on your pc and your phone as well,it will provide you with necessary ADB drivers for your phone :good: and then try to use flashtool. pdanet is basically a thethrng software for android install it to use flashtool.
1. Install .exe file on your windows pc and .apk on your phone.
2. Then Go in the drive where you have installed the flashtool, go to drivers and install x10 mini drivers.
Now flash the kernel Your phone is rooted  ,
You need to unlock your bootloader first do this.

Yes you can unroot just by flashing a Stock Sony ftf over the current one via flashtool. Preferably the same firmware( without wiping)
Also, there is no flash counter in Xperia. If you have a locked bootloader and it is unrooted, there is no way to tell if you have unlocked or rooted

No problems with NFC here.
There are different ftfs for different regions. But that's not a problem. You can flash any region's ftf for your specific model number. If your model is 6833, then download any .757 c6833 ftf and flash it. Have a nice day
