i have a 3 months old HTC Amaze. I was using it with stock rom. no mods no changes. i need internet and wanted use mobile hotspot. after 45mins of usage the phone shut down. i thought the battery has been gone. yes it was but the phone was extremely hot. i waited for a couple hours and pluged it in. i could turned it on but it always crashed while the system loading. i was able to recover it and returned factory default.. ,
yesterday i used hotspot again and it shut down again in 30 mins. i was able to turned it on and see htc logo but thats all it shut down again and never turned on again ever. even i pluged it into pc or chager nothing is happening. no sign. i tried to charge it but nothing. the battery should get hot but no..
i guess the phone is dead now? but isnt it strange? i just wanted to use hotspot feature.. how can i test it? i dont have another amaze or battery.
i guess it has warranty on it but i am not in US right now. i will be back in a month but i just bought the phone on Craigslist. Do you think they would replace the phone?
thanks.
I think your s T-Mobile rep trying to scare us into not using tether.

Been tethering quite fine, you maybe have bad hardware in the wifi antennae department for your device.
if the phone was new unused in the box the warranty may be good to call into tmo support to have them exchange in under your account.
But if the phone was used that is a different story.
The T-Mobile warranty is not transferable after the first person that used the phone.
If that is the case I would recommend to call HTC to see if they can repair it then instead as long as less then a year old.
Send in to HTC
Our phone gets hot. Get a new battery

phone randomly shuts off whenever i run the gps navigation app, is this happening to other people as well?
which navigation app do you use...
if you use google maps did u upgraded to latest from market...
Are you charging at the same time? Might be an overheating issue?
When I charge my phone in the car I lose GPS all together. Does this happen to anyone else? GPS works flawless when my phone is not plugged in.

Do you have Juice Defender installed?
Just got the T-Mobile Amaze 4G on 11/23/11; downloaded SportyPal (tracks your run/jog using GPS). While using Sportypal, during a 3-mile jog, the phone shut down once (completely off); then during a 2-mile walk, the phone re-booted. I called T-Mobile (on 11/25/11), they said it's a known issue (it shutting down) and there will be a software update issued in the future to fix it. I just switched from the T-Mobile HD2 (kept overheating at high use times while charging and re-booting); I'm in the 20-day grace period with the Amaze and wondering if I should trade it for another device; any thoughts anyone?

I just received mine on the 19th and had a connection issue. After the OTA nothing changed so I took ine back within my 15-day Grace period and got a new one...I would say if it continues take it back, you lose nothing and get another brand new phone...My thoughts.

You have a 14 day return or exchange period (30 days in California) not 20 days anywhere. If you are having issues with your device and you take it back to the store there will be a $50 restocking fee unless you get a nice manager who will allow you to do an even exchange and waive it. If you go the warranty route then you will get either a new or refurbished device but you will pay for the shipping $5 or $20 depending on if you have Premium handset Protection or not. Your best bet would be to go into the store and speak with the manager or lead sales associate and tell them you are having issues with the device and need to do an exchange for another one. Make sure they notate your account and put what the reasons were for your visit to the store that day just in case you have any further problems. Hope this helps.

I'm running juice defender on mine. I regularly charge mine in the car while using gps. I've never had an incident of f/c or shutdown. Not sure what's happening with yours. Maybe try installing newest google maps?

Thanks. I did on OTA update HTC pushed and it didn't do it again...until today. But T-Mobile said they were aware of the issue, so I didn't think it was my handset. I got it via mail (from the T-Mobile rep) so not sure if store will take it back, it's been 12 days so far.
I have lost voice service 2x in the last 2 days. Only in the afternoon. I called sprint about it yesterday and they had me update profile. That fixed it. Then today it was fine. I took a call around 2:45pm. I was waiting for a call around 4:30pm I dialed 611 (new troubleshooting screen if you have not done it yet) and it said no voice service. I updated PRL and profile, then I got service again.
Anyone else having this happen?
(Stock - not rooted)
It was funny the lady I talked to kept asking me to remove the battery. I started having some fun with her telling her I need to find my screwdriver, and is this going to affect my warranty because this phone does not have a removable battery... "Oh you have the evo light ... That does not have a removable battery" She asked me three more times to remove the battery.

Lol, funny... I had some data issues, formatted everything back to factory, updated profile, and prl. Nothing. Had sprint redo their end and nothing. 30 or so minutes later and at about 1.5Mbs. Weird... The rep said to try and turn on 1.9Ghz 3g and that was all he would say, any more and it would be like rooting the phone and that got me curious as hell, what really are our phone's capability???

Having the exact problem...has happened to me 3x in 4 weeks....it's costing me tons of $ from missed business calls. No help whatsoever from sprint....Grrrrrr!
Well the problem continues. I took it into a sprint store today. They updated to software to the newest. Less than an hour after I got home it started again. Called sprint again and they did another factory reset. They said they would call my tomorrow and if it happens again they ship me a new phone. I hope the new one does not have the newest hboot.

I have a stock Sprint Evo 4G LTE (hardware 003) that I got from Amazon Wireless on Sept 1st. Never dropped or got it wet.
A couple weeks ago the phone wouldn't turn on after going to sleep. I was able to reset it holding the Power button down and the problem went away.
Then it happened again.
Yesterday, it went bad. I can reset it if I hold power button long enough, but then after a while it just dies again. I pulled SD card and did factory reset and turned off Fast Boot and Battery Saver, all to no avail. If I set it to never go to sleep (Display options) and never turn off display when charging, I can use it - sometimes for an hour or two, sometimes for ten minutes, but inevitably the screen turns black. Often it happens when I plug it in charger, although sometimes it just charges. Basically, the phone is unusable.
I think it started happening after one of the updates from HTC.
So, can someone help me. I do not have TEP and I need to know what my options are.
It really looks to me like some OS glitch. Is there a known fix for that ? I found a lot of people with this issue but no mention of cause or fix.
If I have to get it repaired, should I send it to HTC or try Sprint repair center ? Any ideas of the HTC warranty repair center trustworthiness ? I would hate to send the phone to them, wait for a couple of weeks and get a runaround in the end.
If I go to Sprint, what should I expect ? As I understand the minimum repair charge is around $35.
Thanks !
Take it to Sprint. They likely will replace it. Maybe charge 35$. Be leery of HTC repair. I have read they have really been jerking the int'l one X customers around, since those customers aren't tied to a carrier and can't return to a carrier.

Thanks. I will try that, I would rather pay $35 if the alternative is to be without a phone for two weeks. Is there any idea on what is causing the issue ?
Are you s-off?? Are you rooted?? What recovery are you running?? What all have you tried?? Have you tried running an ruu??

Same here...
I'm having the same issue with my EVO LTE. I'd be curious to know if anyone has any idea what is happening. I've looked around online and it seems to have happened to a number of people.
I actually had to send my EVO back to HTC a couple months ago because I was getting pixel bleed on the screen. It took about a week and a half for them to fix and send it back. Unfortunately, it took another 3 weeks for them to register the ESN with Sprint, so I had to wait for that to actually be able to activate my phone. This was all accompanied by unbelievably bad customer service from Sprint in the interim. The only good that came out of it was that I eventually became so irate that they let me out of my contract.
So I'm leary of sending it back to HTC again. But I also don't feel I should have to pay Sprint to look at the phone and then replace it. Between the phone issues, the wimax and LTE that never came and the $10/month I paid to not have it, the awful 3G speeds, and the ditching of premier customers, I've pretty much reached the end of my rope with HTC and Sprint. And this is after being a loyal customer for 13 years.
Sorry for the rant, I can just empathize with your situation.
I just received an insurance replacement Evo LTE. It seems alright physically, but the screen seems so cheap. There are blantant gradient lines when the screen is supposed to be solid black, and terrible viewing angles. I'm not very happy with this

I have a replacement that came with a green hue in the bottom right that takes up 1/7th of my phone. Took it to Sprint and the techs couldn't see it so they claim, probably due to all the lighting they have to make things look better than they actually are. Still working on getting them to fix this issue or I might just have to leave after all these years. I have paid insurance and repair fees for years without ever using it and have paid for this phone multiple times. There is no way they should be unwilling to give me a NEW or at least acceptable condition phone. Being that this is a lingering issue they seem to not want to resolve, they might be losing a lifelong customer. I refuse to be treated in such manner.

I also got a insurance replacement with a subpar screen, notice the horizontal lines a lot more than I did on my old phone. Oh well..

Ha, I had my phone replaced last year for electrical issues with the motherboard. Well, when I dropped it, and broke the screen (the replacement), I took it in to pay my deductible and get another replacement...
They told me the phone was flagged as stolen! Wtf?! So, you replaced my first phone with a stolen phone? Lol
I just loved getting the cops called on me for something Sprint did... I did get a free replacement for my troubles, and a free month after I had already been slapped in metal bracelets and sat in the back of the cop car...
And you thought you had issues with replacements, lol...

I have gone through 3 replacements so far. I broke my original with water damage. First replacement only got 1x data. I had to force the tech to admit that i was right by doing a speed test with him back to back. and then going in to the hidden diagnostic and showing him it said 1x even though sprint showed 3g on the toolbar. I told him it was sprints way of trying to trick the customer in to thinking they had a better connection than what was available. This pissed him off, but I won. got a replacement sent.
The second replacement had the screen being lifted. You can visibly see the screen coming up, and at times the screen would stop working if i "moved" it in the right direction.
Third replacement could get no data type of data to another. Like 4g to 3g. the data would turn off. the radio was on, but said disconnected. rebooting sometimes fixed it. but it got worst and worst. To the point where I was rebooting 5x just to connect. I complained to no end non stop untill they replaced the phone. I had to show the tech and they said "well.. its rooted" and I said. well.. i flashed it back to stock and look, its happening still.
Fourth replacement, The compass does not work. No matter what I am doing, google maps and compass apps point to the north. Smart Tools also doesnt show me rotating the phone, but G-Sensor does detect the rotation and so does the camera app. But you know what. I ****ign give up.
I am going to take it in to the store just to ***** about it again and hope I get placed on the HTC One or something. But I think they just dont care. The phone is old and they will run it in to the ground until they are out of stock.
Had HTC One M8 for 15 days exactly. About 3 days ago started losing cell service. SIM card not reading in phone half the time im guessing, X through the service bars. Yesterday started not reading SIM at all, took to ATT, they gave me a new SIM card and said it came loose somehow. Still losing connection to SIM card. Every hour or so now, have had to take SIM card out 10+ times since 3pm yesterday when she told me" just pop the SIM out and back in" if it happens again. NOW the SIM card tray is frackin stuck in the phone. SIM tray remover nor paperclip works. Guess it wasnt desgined to be opened 30 times in 3 days(ATT told me to do this whenever I lose service).
TLDR SIM doesnt read, and SIM card tray stuck in phone. 15 days old. a day past ATT return policy.
Worst yet, im at 15days now, 1 day past the return policy at ATT. Thats why I took it there yesterday on the last day, but got the run around and shoved out the door.
What can I do? Pretty disappointed, first new phone I have had in years. Been using a damn Nokia Lumina 520 windows phone... Amazing phone ,but this whole not reading SIM card 2 weeks after opening box is sad.

go back to the same location you went to..
in theory you have a "30 day worry free guarantee" as in, they should replace it for you in store if its defected
the 14 day is a return policy if you want to cancel the contract or swap out for a different device
Call Att and demand to speak to someone in resolutions department.

I am heading to the store tonight, trying to get them on the phone to make sure a manager is there but no answer.
Should they replace the phone in store or what? HTC will send me a replacement if I pay 30$ overnight shipping ,but I hope ATT will just fix this problem for me themselves. Don't want to have to pay any money considering this is 2 weeks old...

There website says nothing about 30 day worry free. It says 14 days to return/replace. Warranty starts day 15-365. But calling there "warranty center" number transfers me to Asurion insurance. idk.

Well they gave me a new phone. but only because the manager extended my 14 day return/exchange and extra week since its been 15 days.
Hopefully no problems with this one.
I've been with AT&T for over 12 years (Cingular) and I've never had an issue with exchanging. 3 phone's ago I had the Samsung infuse...it was new at the time. After a few months I started having frequent call drops and vm issues. After a few mins of over the phone trouble shooting they sent me a new phone along with a prepaid box to sent my old phone back. No joke, within a yrs time...I had that phone replaced 3 times...yes, 3 times without a single issue. My frustration with this device couldn't be measured. I told them "do not send me another junk infuse...I want another phone". After some pursuading...I got them to allow my line to upgrade early. The carrier will always work with you.

Not true, after 14 days its up to the manager if he wants to extend it or not is what i was told last night. But hey guys this new HTC one M8 is doing the same thing. WILL NOT keep service in my house.. X through the service bars. I mean problems with another brand new phone 12 hours after getting it lmfao. There must be some serious design flaws with this phone. So incredibly disappointed. Going back again and hopefully the manager will yet again extend my 14 day return and I will get the cheap plastic S5 I guess. So ****ing sad.
Actually before I return again for a cheap S5 that I dont want( this htc is nicest phone I have ever purchased) I found an option in battery settings that cuts data connection after long periods of no use. I disabled that just now aswell as resetting phone. Hopefully that fixes my problems? That is when I notice I have lost cell service/data. After not using the phone for a few hours or sleeping, waking up with no data. HOPE it is because of that option in battery life. pray for me lol.
