T-mobile Unlimited 4G with working Tether - HTC Amaze 4G

As many of us know T-mobile USA just released a new data pla with unlimited 4G speed. with our rooted phones we can bypass the Tethering chargers from tmobile. my quiestion will be if anyone have switched to the new plan; is tether working?

Same Q was asked the other day. In the appropriate section.

I'm running the same ROM as you and also tried to use wireless tether. I used it with the og EVO and it worked perfect. However I couldn't get WT to work with evo3d. Try barnacle WiFi tether. Worked fine for my 3d.
For the Sprint question I'm not sure, but I think $30 extra is ridiculous.

Wireless Tether NEW VERSION - 3.1 BETA6
thanks for the reply i am currently using clean rom 2.3 sp1.
on the road about to hit a pit stop hopefully i can try this out (let see if hp touchpad can go on line)
would sprint know that i am using tether and charge me?
some guy posted that he was using it until he was charged by sprint but the same person who posted this only had 1 post and wouldn't reply to me questions.
Wireless tether is ad hoc so Sprint shouldn't be able to tell the difference between the data usage

HTC One and Grandfathered TZones?

Has anyone with a TZones plan tried it with a T-Mobile HTC One? I wonder if the T-Mobile still imposes the restriction now that they go UNcarrier.
Many thanks,

But it costs nothing extra for the new plans - it is included in the monthly fees. As for T-Zones, it is not designed for high speed phones, an T-Mobile is getting pretty good at detecting what IMEI is being used on the network. T-Zones was a GPRS/EDGE connection.

It wasn't an edge connection the last time I used it. I had full 4G on an unlocked phone.
And plus, just because it "costs nothing extra for the new plans" doesn't mean that the base plan is any cheaper than a grandfathered plan + tzones.
Now just to be clear, when I say grandfathered I'm referring to fairly old plans of the T-zones era, not 2011-2012-ish grandfathered plans.
Hah, and forgot to mention, you had unlimited tethering with those old tzones plans too.

No, sorry. I've been on high speed data for several years. I'm surprised that T-Mobile hasn't caught out the T-Zones folks though. Those plans were designed for the phones that only went to the "T-Zones" web interface. But maybe it is just not worth it for the few who still use it.

AFAIK, newly Google Nexus 4 can fully operated on T-Zones w/o a problem (fully unlimited) and some area can get 4G speed. That's why people keep T-Zones data plan.

I just unlocked an AT&T HTC One. Enabled LTE using the the #*#*4636*#*#. I got an "LTE" Icon under the 4G icon. But, when I go online, it takes me to the T-Mobile upgrade page.
I am currently using Galaxy Nexus with Tzone and I am getting HSPA+, but not LTE since this phone is not LTE capable.
I am going to try my friend's SIM tomorrow where he has actual data plan to make sure AT&T HTC One does indeed work with T-Mobile LTE.

its pretty much the only reason im using a GS4 (unlocked AT&T version works with tzones) instead of the one... 30mb downloads and 20mb uploads for $3/mo with no cap is pretty awesome
Doesn't work. Tried it. No data connection.

It's illegal to change IMEI. Also it could easily get you banned around here.

hi,
Any update ?
I had the same situation. My new unlocked AT&T htc one got upsell windows in T-mobile T-zones.

I cannot get USB tether to work :/ it shows red, so I am assuming that that s4 does support usb tether? I did get the wifi tether to work. For the record I did try all 3 different USB settings and made sure USB debugging was on and off. Nothing seemed to work.
I use Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot, but it looks like it does the same thing: https://play.google.com/store/search?q=portable+wifi+hotspot&c=apps
Glad some of those are still out there. I thought the carriers had all those banned from the Play store years ago.

Unlimited is provisioned differently than limited data plans... hence the "subscription check".
Limited data plans can tether all they want, just hope you never hit that limit and get on the dime for overages
There's an unanswered question up there, and it's an important question for the "unlimited" peeps on VZW here!
edit: it has nothing to do with "rooting" or "not rooting" like the op says. I'm hoping he has unlimited, but have had the last few Samsung devices on VZW, and it's not promising for us unlimited data folk. Most unlimited tethering changes involve more than installing a widget, but I'm not familiar with this one.
Someone please report if it works with unlimited data, and then please report 35 days later when your new bill comes in. Do it again 70 days out.

Which is exactly why I asked. Done and Done.
No widget is going to circumvent Unlimited Data Tethering as stated in the OP's post today. :good::good:
Can confirm. The widget trick works for people on unlimited data plans.
Also. I used to do it this way all the time with my s3 never got charged for it if that answers your question. I switched to WiFi tether because the verizon one kept dropping the signal while tethering.

Thanks very much! After shelling out $700 full retail for the S4 (did the same for the S3)to maintain unlimited data, I'm glad to see a working option for wifi tethering so quickly available. This activated the hotspot without subscription verification, which by all appearances is what the methods I used on the S3 did too, so frankly, I'm not overly concerned about big red being able to discern that I'm tethering, while not actually subscribing to that service. Thanks again!
Unlimited here and the shortcut for WiFi tethering works great. No luck with USB tethering widget or other usb shortcuts I've found in the play store... it always goes to confirm subscription and then tells me to call customer service.
I have unlimited data, but I have the hotspot option under the more networks catagory. I am not rooted. Are you sure you need this? Try uninstalling it and see if you have the hotspot there.

Everyone has that option regardless of their plan, as it's built into the phone. Since you have unlimited data without a tethering plan, if you try to start it you'll get a subscription message. If you use one of the widget to start tethering it bypasses this.
If you remove it it won't work AFAIK.
Works perfectly on my S4 with unlimited data.

Hundreds of us have been using it on the S3 and Note 2, as well as other phones with no issues.
I have unlimited data and am using FixFi...works great. I bought PDANet years ago and that key unlocks the full version. I imagine it works the same way...though I don't really care as long as it works. I am not rooted for the first time in years.

Tethering working out of the box

I saw an article on PhoneArena about wifi sharing on the S7. Cool feature. But when I tested it, I noticed that I was also able to share my mobile connection. There appears to be no tethering block.

That doesn't make sense. All of the AT&T phones I've owned over the last several years have had a block on tethering, including my GS6 and Note 5.
Well maybe they came to their senses
AT&T Data share plans have allowed tethering and connection sharing (hotspot) for a couple of years now. The only people that I know of that generally did not have it as an option were those with "unlimited" data.

I'm not sure if you're retarded or just trolling.
I have been on the same plan with them for years. It has not changed. All previous AT&T phones had tethering blocked and threw up the message to contact AT&T to enable tethering. I know exactly what my plan includes and how it works. This is the first AT&T phone in years that hasn't had tethering blocked out of the box.
Not sure I can make it any clearer than that.

No need for rudeness or name calling. It's not my fault that you or your company didn't bother to see that AT&T has allowed tethering on non-unlimited data plans for years now. It's up to you to find that out, they are not just going to do the work for you. If you would have called and had it enabled, as the message directed you to, you might have found out for yourself.
Either way, have a nice night.

Did you ever stop to consider the fact that corporate plans work differently? That companies might choose to retain unlimited plans to avoid overage charges?
I wasn't looking for someone to pollute my thread by arguing with me over what plan my company has and how it works. I was hoping that someone else who is on a plan without tethering could confirm my findings. I'm well aware of how AT&T's plans for consumers are structured now.
I have the AT&T version, and I am on a 3 gig plan, and I am able to toggle either Mobile Hotspot or Tethering. Both work fine. I do not have a tethering plan.
I came from HTC - I had the HTC One and then the One M8. Both of those were rooted with custom ROMs just so I could tether.
No need to root this phone. It is fine the way it is.

Thanks for confirming, Mike. I wonder what changed that they are no longer blocking it. Or maybe it's a mistake.
I only tether if I am somewhere with the laptop and there's no wireless or wired network. It will burn through data, so they will get you with additional charges if you exceed your plan. An earlier post in this thread said that they were forced to allow tethering.

Not working with my newer unlimited plan. Well at least not the stock Hotspot.
I'm pretty sure tethering is allowed for all customers except for people on the grandfathered unlimited plan. If you have any of the tiered data plans they allow tethering on it.
AT&T offers an Unlimited plan to DirecTV subscribers. I almost went for it until I learned it did not allow tethering/hotspot. Their other plans do but they will throttle you at 22gbs. For DirecTV they also offer $500 in credit per line. A free S7 if you buy one. And, $650 in credits to switch. I walked into their store and chatted with them but they are either too busy or too clueless. Not sure if all these deals are all in effect but I've been bombarded with offers since they bought DirecTV. I really want to bail on VZW.

No hotspot love for me...
My new S7 Edge can only act as a Hotspot when I'm on wifi (big deal, right?). I have a grandfathered in Unlimited Data plan and then it became part of a Corp Account. Once I turn wifi off on my phone and the Mobile Hotspot feature to "on" then I get the same message I've gotten on all of my AT&T phones for years: Please call 611 or go to att.com/mywireless to enable mobile hotspot... blah, blah, blah....
I'm sure they want me to pay for my phone to act as a mobile hotspot...Oh well, I'll survive!

Looking for new unlimited hotspot - CDMA network being shut down by T-Mobile

Hello,
I've been using XDA for information for a very long time. I rooted my Photon Q and have been enjoying unlimited hotspot for many years. Now T-Mobile has bought Sprint and I just got notification that they are shutting down the CDMA network as of January 1st.
What I would really like to know is how do I move on from here? I looked at plans with unlimited hotspot and they all have speeds throttled down to 3G at some point. Obviously that is way too slow as I have been getting 4MB/s for as long as I've been on 4G LTE.
Could someone please clue me in as to what my rooting options are for unlimited hotspot on newer handsets? I'd really like to stay on micro USB and not whatever the newer ones are because I have charging set up all over the house for those already. Staying on T-Mobile is not mandatory and I'm willing to look at all other options. 5G would be nice but I was perfectly happy with 4G. I think everyone can understand my frustration with all of my equipment that works perfectly fine being made obsolete with the discontinuation of the CDMA network.
Thank you.

I've been taking a much closer look at this and it seems to go much deeper. When I called Sprint (my original carrier) they tried to sell me a new plan with a free garbage phone and a 24 month contract. The end of CDMA is nothing short of a cashgrab by T-Mobile and it's going to end up screwing over hundreds of thousands of people.
