.SPB backup files - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Last week I backed up my contacts from my Galaxy S2 onto my Macbook. It created a .spb file in the backup location. Since then my S2 has taken a tumble and has been sent away for repair but the prognosis doesn't look good! I have a Sony Ericsson as a spare handset, but cannot get the .spb file to open anywhere to convert to a .Csv file to replace my contacts. If anyone could help I would extremely grateful as the last sync with GMail didn't work so the only place I have my contacts is in the SPB backup file. I have tried opening Kies(latest download) on the mac to open the spb file but there is no option to let me do it.
arghhhhhhh
Thanks
Dirk

Maybe a UC question, maybe just stupid

I am wondering if it is possible to keep a copy of my contacts on my storage card, and maybe how to use UC to load it should I have to hard reset on the fly I will have a contacts list.
I have beat my head against the wall searching this site, PPCGEEKS and others looking for an answer or a tutorial.
Honestly with all of the reading I have done if I missed it I will slap myself in the face.
Any Ideas? Any comments welcome.
um, i think everything is stored in pim.vol, so if u could copy that to the appropriate folder along with any related files; i don't see why it wouldn't work... it would probably require a reset afterwards though.
Try contact backup
Try ppc contact backup application..
It creats backup of contacts and save all the contacts in a file with .csv extension.
just keep this file and contactbackup exe (does not require installation) on ur storage card
And u can restore ur contacts anytime....
Get it now
U can download from www.freewarepocketpc.net
having hacked many phones prior to my titan, I know how to export the phonebook via activesync, in .csv format. Thanks for the tip, I guess I need to figure how to load that automatically, without any software.
Thanks for the replies.
I copied the pim file over to my storage card and hard reset and was able to move it back over to the phone and it loaded my contacts. I had to rename the new pim file before I transfered the old file over. Then after a soft reset I was able to delete the renamed pim file.

[REQUEST] Defy Moto Phone Portal

Hey, I've been searching for the Moto Phone Portal, but have only found V1 which apparently does not have the file explorer. Any way to get V2 or just a version with a wifi file explorer?
If you're only interested in a wifi file explorer/manager i would suggest to try webkey from the market, free, easy to use and doesn't require to install anything on the pc, any browser will work fine.
Me too
ok so on CM7 we don't have phone portal. I installed v.029 and V1 and i can't backup my contacts or import the.csv file to phone... very annoying. Tried to restore with Titanium... no luck. I guess the old ones have compatibility issues with the 2007CSV format. It asks for a 2003... but i have Office 2007... and it cannot save in the older format.
Overall how do i put my .Csv and .Bak files back on the phone?
Can anyone please extract the phone portal.

[Q] How TO Transfer Contacts

hi i want to transfer my SGA contacts to Samsung C5212 (Fizz), but when i export my contact to sd it creates single VCF file and c5212 doesnt support single vcf rather its only imports my first contacts so how can i split my contacts to multiple vcf file or ho can i export my contacts to multiple vcf file from sga
Samsung Kies?
i found a better way Moderator kindly close this tread ...
I want to share with you a painless solution for transferring full contacts
1) First, on my SGA I exported my contacts to sd as VCard which save to a single file (x.vcf), then I transfer this file to my computer in a folder (for ex. c:\TEMP\x.vcf).
2) Then I use the attached application (VCF Splitter ) to split x.vcf in single VCF files. Extract vcfsplitter061220.zip to c:\TEMP\ and you'll have 2 files: vcfsplitter.exe and readme.txt.(IMPORTANT: You must drag x.vcf over vcfsplitter.exe in WINDOWS EXPLORER!!! otherwise will not work <in TotalCommander not worked for me>)
VcfSplitter download page: www.dm9.se/?dl_id=1
3) Then install NOKIA PC SUITE and in section "Contacts" select "Import" and you can select all single vcf files created with vcfsplitter.
And that's it. I hope some of you will use this tutorial.
See you soon
How about exporting you contacts and syncing them with your google account, (additionally) you can manage groups and chose which contacts you will get on your new phone

[Q] Kies: How I do to restore memo?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2. When I did a firmware update, I did a backup of everything.
Then I did a firmware update, of course it failed, dont know why, I think it was because I was using a USB 1.1 socket on the computer, since the emergency restore worked when switching to a USB 2.0 socket on the back of the computer.
Now I have lost everything. When I try to restore, everything is greyed out. Had some important passwords saved into "Memo" in the phone and need to get them back.
How I do to restore the memo data?
The first attachment show the backup screen, and the second screen show that the memo (in swedish: "Anteckningar") is greyed out. Everything in Personal details (swedish: "Personuppgifter") is greyed out.
How I do to restore the memo data? Only option is to restore some photos.
Solved it. Did this, first I started recovery, since I had some heavy files, I could start a very long recovery.
Then I went into my document folder, where the SBU files are placed. Kies does a temporary extraction, so I could go into the file, and found a memo.bk file.
Copied it to desktop, renamed to .txt and found this:
BEGIN:VCALENDAR
VERSION:1.0
BEGIN:VEVENT
DESCRIPTION;CHARSET=UTF-8;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:PASSWORD1=0APASSWORD2
DTSTART:20111010T110217Z
X-ALLDAY:UNSET
END:VEVENT
END:VCALENDAR<#JIG#><#COUNT#>1
(of course I don't show the passwords here, thats why they are replaced Password1 and Password2)
Thanks!

Thanks a million buddy
Almost a year and a half later since you posted this, but you just saved me!
Had the same problem after updating from ICS to Jellybean, all my important data and password info in my memo files
When i tried to tick the box to restore, it was all greyed out to my disappointment.
So i started the restore process, when the error came up, navigated to the temp folder within Kies directory and BAM! memo file right there.
Thanks again!

Where does android store contact photos ?

Hi guys ... Well I want to export all the contact photos Android is currently storing for all my 'Phone' contacts ..
Does anyone know where Android stores all contact photos/images ?
I'm currently running a Sense 3.6 ROM (Virtuous Affinity) on my Desire Z ..
Well I could not find them anywhere on the SD card, but I did find another solution to this, which can work until something better comes along:
1) Download and install Titanium Backup
2) Open Titanium Backup, and create a backup of the Contacts app
3) Open the SD card on your PC, and then open the 'TitaniumBackup' folder
4) Find your backup here .. if its date sorted, find the backup that was created most recently maybe ..
5) Open the TAR file in WinRAR, and then open the 'files' folder inside the TAR file
6) All associated contact images should be here now ..
Please 'Thank' this post if this helped you out
