Sounds like you let the Sprint customizations run.
Go into Device Information under Settings and read me what it says for PRI Version and PRL Version.

That's your problem. You let the Sprint customizations run and have the Sprint PRI on your phone.
The ONLY fix for this (and still hasn't been proven to fix 100% of the time) is to relock the phone and flash back to stock rom/radio. This will revert your PRI back to Verizon. Once you've finished with that, you also will most likely have to call Verizon and have them issue you a DMU reset, as the Sprint PRI has probably screwed your DMU public key.
Flash back to stock rom/radio, then post back with your PRL version and PRI version.

That you did a hard reset after the phone crashed and it gives the message that it can't authenticate the phone. Do not call #8899 or whatever (I question what that department really does), just call 611 and go to tech support and play dumb and they will get you provisioned.
You may just be better to relock and reload stock rom then 228, or did you do that already? If you are at stock rom and authenticate, you may need to do it again after flashing radio FYI.

When you allowed the sprint customizations to run, you probably caused some problems that can only be fixed by verizon at this point. You will likely need them to reset your akey and reprovision you on the network. Give 611 a call and tell them that you did a hard reset and get that message.

You need to stop at the screen where it says tap to continue. Don't tap.
Instead, force bootloader (power + camera + reset) and load .nbh custom rom by SD, or ensure Activesync is connected (still without tapping ) and flash custom Rom by .exe.

Yeah, If your on Verizon or other non-Sprint network, don't listen to those people who say to let the Sprint stuff run ... you will likely jack your phone up. It is possible to really cause problems that are difficult to flash out (trust me)

hmm... well guess i should have checked data.. cause now that i tossed on a PPCkitchen rom the data connection will not work getting a wrong login/password error... hmm/.
When you reset your phone, you lose authentication and need to be reprovisioned to work on the network. You may be able to get there with login settings from here, but a call to Verizon and/or a reflash may be a reality at this point.

Serf it has nothing to do with that. It's probably his DMU public key like I said above.
Dial ##778 and then press send. Press Edit, then enter 000000 for unlock code.

For anyone else reading this...it causes SERIOUS problems if you let the Sprint customizations run and you're not a Sprint customer. PLEASE be careful if you're using the Sprint roms to get your radio.
Ok... i have a phone programmed on my network (VZW) *228 , 1 and *228 , 2 done. Data is working. Messaging is working. The only problem I have not accomplished, is getting the Roaming Indicator to go away... and when people call... I get the roaming message. I looked at the EPST compared to my other phone.... and it looks right. What's missing?
Bump......
There has to be somebody that has an idea on what the PRL / PRI should be in order to get rid of this Roaming issue.
There is a site that shows all of the latest prl's for all carriers...I just tried to find it for you....I know it is over at ppcgeeks....if I find it I will post it back....just changing the prl should fix it....

This is why you're roaming. This is not a Verizon PRI. You let some other carrier's customizations run. You need to flash back to stock, let VZW customizations run, then upgrade again. It's the only way. Your data may not work either after you flash back to stock, so you may need a DMU reset.

I was afraid of that. The ERI keeps erroring as well when I try to write "4" to it.. GRRRR...
I'm still trying to get this to work... but with VZW Stock 2.09 and radio 2.13 (because the normal method with the 1.30.60 just says no radio)... and the customizations ran... when in the main screen of WM... it still says roaming. I'm guessing because I haven't programmed any settings yet... IE... phone number.... SID... etc.
Edit:
Ok... Somethings not right. Even after running the stock verizon... letting it "Customize" and then updateing to the latest DCD... In QPST there is still SPCS in the NAM settings areas.... and the roaming is still showing.
Also, If I do a ##eri.. to load the eri.. it gives me a write failure. and.. when I do a ##7764726... for ##Program.. the ERI
reading... fails.
PRI still reads 2.00_003
Is there a way to "ERASE" the device and start over? That way the correct ERI/PRI will be loaded?
I guess because the GPS Radio/Rom from sprint is what ran and did the customizations.... a Verizon Base Non-GPS radio/Rom customization isn't erasing the Sprint data? Even after verizon Customizations... QPST says SPCS.

If you havent already try this, Id suggest re-flashing to the stock vrzn ROM. That may fix your problem, but Im not sure, as I am just taking a stab in the dark.
I've had to do it before and it pretty much returns ur phone to how its "supposed" to be.

Been there. Done that. It's a Sprint Mogul. So, the Base system information that gets retrieved after the flashing is done, is all sprint. That's what I want to edit. If I can get the Verizon stuff in the ERI/PRI... I'd be good to go. The phone works as a verizon phone. Text/Data/Email... etc. It just shows roaming.
Ok... I was hoping the new update would fix it. I ran the vzw update on UtStarcoms site... let it update the PRI... and It still says I'm roaming on my Cloned Mogal to Verizon.

Basically you can flash any ROM but you will have to get 3G and MMS working. If you are on Sense 2.1 ROM now, download apn backup and restore and backup your current APN's. Also make sure you have 3G before you flash a FROYO ROM because you will not be able to get into diagnostics mode when on FROYO. Ill post the steps I did to get everything working. Download a ROM you want and put it on the root of your SDCARD. Also download Token's Cricket V10 zip file here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730289 and put in on the root as well.
In Amon Ra's Recovery:
1) Back Up Current ROM (ALWAYS DO BEFORE ANY CUSTOMIZING)
2) Scroll to Wipe Data, select it, then select Wipe Data/Factory Reset
3) Scroll to Wipe Dalvik Cache and select it.
4) Scroll to the ROM you downloaded and put on the root of your SDCARD and select it
5) Once its finished Select the Cricket V10 file. When everything is done reboot your phone.
6) Once your in the phone download autostart root and apn backup and restore from the marketplace.
7) Open apn backup and restore and select delete apns, then select restore apn's and select the one your backed up previously.
8) Reboot the phone and once the phone comes back up grant autostart root superuser permission.
You should have working 3G at this point. If your MMS doesnt work then I can work with you to get it working. Hopefully this helps...

What plan are you on? Android smartphone, all-in-$45 plan.?
It does matter. It sounds like all-in-$45 cause if you had the android plan your internet would work automatically.
One thing you should have done was check this "full flash" immediately to see if it truly is a "full flash". In my world a full flash is a fully functioning phone talk/text/internet/mms. If all this didn't work when they "full flashed" the phone you got taken.
If you want your Eris on cricket fully functioning xtrasense 4.6.5 is a great ROM for that. Everything you need is right here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730289
Just make sure that your settings are right in ePST otherwise you'll never get it. I know my Eris if I *228 it, it reverts to Verizon in ePST. Do you have the evdo or 3g symbol next to your signal strength?
I've got the Eris fully functioning on xtrasense with/without Android plan and also with froshedyo with/without Android plan.
Now if I can just get the mms to work on Gingerbread on the Android plan. Can't get apn right. Working froyo apn doesn't seem to work.

If you do it will work. download the cricketv10 and follow the instructions in the thread. Once you do that it will work.
When you get it working thank Token for all work on this. You'll need to download autostart from the market.
But like I said before. Seems to me you got taken at the store. $60 and all they did was change your PRL. You could have done that yourself by just downloading the PRL to your sdcard and then updating it in PST.
Anyways hope this help. if it still doesnt work check to make sure they provisioned your account properly. I have had several issues in the past with them not setting up the account properly.
i cant get autostart to work, it doesnt ask for root. i have to use root explorer to get data. how can i get the script to run on boot
I had the same issue with Autostart with certain ROMs but never with xtrasense. Thats why I stuck with it for so long until I got on the Android plan.
I never figured out how to get it to run on boot but I only ever had to go into root explorer and run the script when it rebooted. So I just did that as little as possible.
Other than that it works tho?

FYI if this helps, or even if it doesn't, you can see the MEID number underneath the battery. I find that you usually have to use the HEX version on Verizon's website. I don't know if this will help you, however, because flashing ROMs does not affect activation status.
Is this the number you're looking for?

To my knowledge, the ROMs do not alter any activation state of the phone* - that stuff is held in a hidden partition (the "mfg" partition, I suspect) in the flash memory chip that are never touched by any of the usual ROM flashing operations. That's why you can change ROMs and maintain the same activation and PRL data from ROM to ROM. So, I don't know why your phone's tower association would have changed if was working correctly before flashing a developer ROM.
*The only exception to this is if you perform a factory reset with the stock recovery on the phone - that does clear the activation state of the phone. The "factory reset/wipe data" menu entry of the custom recovery doesn't touch activation data or PRLs, though.
If that's what happened, then you might have to temporarily revert to a stock ROM - just don't use the factory reset procedure on the stock ROM before you re-root the phone. (BTW, you could certainly use the March 2011 OTA stock ROM - installing it won't overwrite your custom recovery, so you can simply do a nandroid backup/restore to get back to your current setup - no need to "re-root" if you do that.)
There's probably something I don't understand about the situation you are describing, unless it has something to do with towers that were acquired from a different carrier (Alltel?) by Verizon - under normal circumstances, your phone would prefer to connect to the best signal within it's home network, assuming that there are not other problems that prevent that from happening (such as call congestion through a certain tower). Perhaps the towers you want to connect to are actually considered to be "roaming" by the PRL you have on your phone, and that's why the more distant VZW towers are chosen?

i will try this but before i do i'll try to explain a bit more, when i call the normal eris programming number, it tries to actually make a call instead of giving me the option to go into edit mode, now when im on the stock rom i can do it but as soon as i flash any other rom on it, it doesnt allow me to do so. i had a rom from a droid 2 on it and when i used the droid 2 programming number it worked just fine and i could edit the info. hope this helps clarify a bit, and thanks for the help

^This sentence confuses the crap out of me. I read it 5 or 6 times, and have no idea what sequence of operations you performed. I only have a vague idea that you can't get something to work.
If you can't access the EPST menu, how can you see what the settings are?
Here is what everybody has said so far (basically the same thing, but in different ways) :
- The EPST menus are generally not available in custom ROMs, especially any of the AOSP (Froyo/Gingerbread) ROMs. You need a stock, or near-stock ROM to be guaranteed that they will be available
- The same thing is true of "secret dial code menus". They don't exist in custom ROMs, unless those custom ROMs are nearly identical to stock ROMs (that is, directly derived from a stock ROM).
If you want to try it, you can flash either a RUU or PB00IMG.zip file - these operations flash a "nvram" file (*.nb0), which conceivably resets PRL and other non-ROM settings. After doing that, and fooling with EPST using a stock ROM, you will need to re-root.
As I mentioned, you should not run a "factory reset" procedure on your phone after you have configured what you want (with EPST) when there is a STOCK recovery on the phone.
Beyond that, I'm sort of mystified why you are unsatisfied with a phone that appears to be working normally. (What application are you using to determine cell phone tower? Are you inferring that from location services (Google Maps) with GPS and WiFi location services turned off?)

My network settings switched to gsm, they should be "cdma", im sprint cust and live in US. Ill change setting back to cdma, as soon as I back out 1 screen then go back in the setting will have auto changed back to gsm. I tried to do a recovery and phone would not load recovery (fail). I have found out that the install_recovery.sh file is nowhere on the phone. I just tried unlocking bootloader which was successful and then flashed cwm 5.0.2.7photon3 and sunfire-user-2.3.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-198-7-CM-release-keys-signed-Sprint-US. Also cleared phone a few times and anyway booted up then and it was still auto switching itself to gsm after Id change it to cdma. Im stumped, could anyone help me, or does any1 possibly have idea what might be causing this. I also tried flashing radio from "halfevildruid" thread, that did not work either. PLEASE HELP, WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE THANKS. I hope I posted in correct place, sorry if not. I looked around for quite awhile so it would be in correct place.
*#*#4636#*#*
Select "Phone information"
scroll down to "Select preferred network type" and select CDMA Auto (PRL)
Reboot
Q-In settings/about phone what is you PRL?
Q-Which radio did you flash?
Also install_recovery.sh removes CWM on every reboot and replaces it with stock recovery. So do you want a locked phone or unlocked phone? If you want unlocked then you do not want install_recovery.sh.
Have you tried to flash the stock sbf and starting over?
Lokifish Marz I will get info and post back shortly, thanks for the quick reply.

Thanks you for the reply Lokifish,
I hope I am replying back the correct way ( hitting the quote button), anyways I have now got the cm 9 6282012 installed on phone and seems to be working good except my phone is still set on gsm and when Im going to apn's there is no info there it is blank. I went into phone info #*#*4636*#*# and change the setting to "cdma auto prl" and reboot the phone and its still on gsm. I have noticed something in the forums, should I flash the beta 3.1 cm9 file? (which I have not done, but I have flashed the gapps file though) and if so should that be done after flashing the cm9 6282012?
by the way im running cm9 and I go into settings/ about phone/ I don't find any prl. nor do I find it in the *#*#4636#*#* either. Would greatly appreciate any help please
still stuck

Thanks for the reply As far as I know I had thought that this was the original SBF, do you know if that is correct?
1FF-sunfire-user-2.3.4-4.5.1A-1_SUN-198_6-CM-release-keys-signed-Sprint-US.sbf Anyways I had tried this file but didn't have any luck.
As of now I have cm9 installed and running except for my sprint cdma network, I do have wifi. but in apn settings it is just blank.
I have a question along the same line. I recently rooted my mopho, keep having an issue installing bootstrap recovery. It seems to continually load when I try to install recovery. Also superuser keeps denying access to system recovery install. Idk if it had to do with the continually loading or if it's a separate issue. I even went in and allowed access with no help still. I'm tring to keep 4g, so I'm staying locked for the time being. Just such a pain, coming from htc evo 4g & 3D.... Never again will I buy moto. Should have done some research before buying. Any help is greatly appreciated.
