I have a Galaxy Player 5 with froyo
About Device
Model Number
YP-G70
Firmware version
2.2.2
Kernel version
2.6.32.9
[email protected] #1
Build number
FROYO.JVKE1
Kies doest recognize the device
And how to update to gingerbread
Flash on the stock GB firmware listed in the "all in one guide" in the development section. OTA will not work for your device running Froyo. Also be sure whether or not you have the US or International variant of the device (international has a real "home" button, US has a soft key home button). Here's the thread:

Big thanks to zaclimon for creating that thread, I resort to it all the time!

Hi,
I have the Samsung Galaxy Europa (GT-I5500) and I'm trying to update my phone to 2.2 (Froyo) through Kies and It says that this version of the device cannot be updated.
Current firmware version:
PDA:JJ6 / PHONE:JG3 / CSC:JJ2 (XEU)
On about phone:
2.1-update1
Baseband Version:
I5500XWJG3
Kernel Version:
2.6.29-perf
[email protected]#1
Build Number:
ERE27.XWJJ6
None of this flashing lark though as I haven't a clue how to do it and I would need very very specific step by step instructions etc and I really want the Legitimate 2.2 firmware.
Please help as I really want to update my phone to 2.2.
Any thoughts?
Cheers

Doesn't matter, my father used Odin to update my phone to 2.2.
No one is going to help you here, I was in a similar situation, you have to download the firmware 2.2(Froyo) that belongs to your Product code and flash it with Odin to get rid of that Kies error. Just look in the stickies.
Regards
odin is the best way just f**k of the kies it just gave me the same error but i used odin for updating
ya same here just let kies jump. use odin

flashing is simple, type into youtube 'i5500 2.2 tutorial' and have a look at that video, shows a step by step way to flash, and has all the files you need.
After about 1.5 years of love, rooting and multiple ROMS, it was time to upgrade my HTC Desire.
As such, I have bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 ... problem is, after much reading, I'm still not sure what I have ... there seems to be multiple flavors of the phone and stock ROMS. It's definitely unlocked and running fine on AT&T.
Model GT-I9100 (this I understand)
Android version 2.3.3 (this I understand)
Baseband I9100XXKG1 (????)
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-I9100ZSKG2-CL361136 root *at* ubuntu #6 (????)
Build number Gingerbread.ZSKG2 (????)
It came with a Chinese Keyboard, was bought from expansys-usa (if this matters)
My ultimate goal is: root this beast, and install other ROMS, probably stock ones to start. I'm not looking for instructions on how to do this as there are plenty of how-to's already on the web, but I want to know what phone I'm starting out with so I can use the right root method and right ROMS.
For some reason you have a Chinese rom on an international phone.
Baseband I9100XXKG1 Bit in bold is the bit that matters
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-I9100ZSKG2-CL361136 Bit underlined is the region code, bit in bold is the version.
There are multiple versions for each version code (cos samsung like making our lives hard) most KGX roms are 2.3.4, but there is also some which are 2.3.3, which you have.
Build number Gingerbread.ZSKG2 Again, its gingerbread so 2.3.X and underlined is the region code, bold the version.
To get a newer version, use this guide
Your best bet is KG6 or KH3.
You can use any modem with any firmware version, so if you find a modem is bad for you, flash a new one.
for root, to start with use cf-root, match it up with the version number, unless there is one that matches both region code and version number.
That clears up a lot for me, thanks for the info and the links.
Hello
I have installed a couple of custom firmwares on my phone, but I am currently running cyanogenmod 7.1.0. I am facing many many problems like fc, crashes, etc. and would like to install stock 2.3.7 using KIES.
I downloaded a stock firmware (somewhere from this forum) and flashed it with ODIN but when I tried to upgrade using KIES I was not able to do so. I want to run a stock 2.3.7 with samsung apps etc. what do I have to do in order to be able to upgrade again through KIES?
Thanks
There is no 2.3.7 stock ROM available.
As for CyanogenMod:
If you had those problems, you were most likely using an outdated version. The nightly 116 is the best working CyanogenMod for the Galaxy S2 so far. The "stable" version was everything but stable.
So you have to decide:
Outdated Samsung Android
or
Give CyanogenMod another try.
Or maybe MIUI?

As the post above says , there is no 2.3.7 stock ROM , 2.3.6 is the latest version ( XWKK2 or XWKK5 ). Get it from intratech's thread, get to clockworkmod recovery , do a wipe data/cache , boot into download mode and flash the rom with odin.
Thank you guys for your answers!!
I will have to find some time to try both the nightly cyanogenmod 116 and the stock 2.3.6 (although I could only find up to 2.3.5).
gr4ndm4st3r_bl4ck, will I be able to update through KIES when 4.0 or 4.1 will be available for my phone?

You can find XWKK2 (2.3.6) at the bottom of intratechs non-frankestein builds.
Ice Cream Sandwich will be available on KIES in late January or early February for Galaxy S2, but we will probably have a leaked version before that. Kies is actually rubish, you should always update using Odin ( much simpler , plus you get updates before they are actually available on KIES).

Ok so I followed your instructions and found following:
Code:
XWKK2
Firmware info
PDA:XWKK2
PHONE: XXKI4
Date: 11/11/2011
Android 2.3.6
XEN (Netherlands): url (not able to post outside links yet)
XWKK2 Stock Kernel: url (not able to post outside links yet)
Password: [email protected]
does it matter if I bought my phone in Sweden but the firmware is from netherlands? I want to have swedish input etc. I am not sure if cyanogenmod (which supports swedish) have included other languages or if it's a standard in every android.. also what is XEN? I will of course read through the guide again but just to be 100% sure
Thank you

If your phone is the international version of SGS II I9100 ( aka not branded ) then it doesn't matter. You will have Swedish input and all the other ones. XEN is a country code for Netherlands ( codes used in firmware versions ). Also you just need the XEN one you dont need the stock kernel , its only used after rooting your phone. Just follow the instructions and you should be ok. Hope that helps a bit.
Hi all,
I have bought a second hand Samsung Galaxy S 2 in China.
The Android version installed is 2.3.3; I tried to do an update via Kies but I got the infamous message that "firmware update is not supported" for my device. I understand from other posts in the forum that maybe the firmware installed is not matching with the original region of the device, in this case I should install the right firmware in order to get the support from Kies, am I right?
But my question is...how do I know the original firmware/region for my model?
The data of the device are the following:
Model Number: GT-I9100
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: I9100XXKE4
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKE7-CL215725 [email protected] #2 (does this mean the phone has been rooted?)
Build Number: QUENS.GINGERBREAD.XWKE7
Plus, when I connect to Kies the current firmware version detected is:
I9100XWKE7/I9100XEUKD1/I9100XXKE4/I9100XWKE7 (DBT)
Sorry for the noob question, I tried to figure out from the sticky post and used search but I am still confused...(yes, I got intimidated by the welcoming video of the forum)
Thanks

Its not posible to know without evidence guess maybe.

NO its the signature
Build Number: QUENS.GINGERBREAD.XWKE7
That reads as a custom rom by Quens ???
Plus, when I connect to Kies the current firmware version detected is:
I9100XWKE7/I9100XEUKD1/I9100XXKE4/I9100XWKE7 (DBT)
If its a i9100 and no other version pick a stock rom from the stock roms posts .
With later firmware and to match region phone is used in .

A friend of mine has a samsung galaxy s2 with basebandversion I9100XXKE4 and when i looked which version of android it was running i was surprised to see version 2.3.3 was installed. Because i had version 2.3.5 before i used another baseband version update to go to ICS ... Looking arround on the web i could not find a more recent version of Android for her phone. (btw also still no official ICS version for the i9100XXKI3) So I had on my phone a baseband version I9100XXKI3 and i updated using Odin with an ICS package which had I9100XXLPR baseband No problems until now. Now running CM9.
You guys think i can also use this (xxLPR)package to update her I9100XXKE4 ?
We both live in HK. Only difference is she is on PCCW and i am on Smartone

XX ROM series had plenty of official updates after 2.3.3, among them three ICS ROMs. Latest is LPW.
Just follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
and pick up whatever ROM you feel like (you may also follow your product code).

Yes, you can. Only thing is if you flash stock firmware for another region you may have problems getting OTA updates for your region in the future. Which isn't a huge problem as you can also simply flash these via Odin when they're released if you do have difficulties.
I've had a look at Checkfus (PC version) & it tells me most recent update for I9100/Hong Kong was ZSLPG on 06/04/2012. So I guess you could go with LPR like you did, or you could get Checkfus & use this ICS build, which might mean no problems with OTA updates in the future (but no guarantees).
