My USB port quit working on my AT&T G Note and I would like to send it in for repair/replacement. I had Clockwordmod Recovery and my flash counter was at 15.
I restored the AT&T stock kernel (pda-odin-att-stock) via Odin, and then the Odin flashable clockwork recovery file. After that was done I opened Kies and performed an "Initialization and Upgrade" and that took me back to 100% stock ICS with the stock recovery.
My questions are:
1) Is my flash counter still at 15, yet the stock just doesn't allow me to see it?
2) If 1 == true, what would be my best option at this point?
I appreciate it any advice fellows.
Thx
It is likely that your flash counter is still reading 15.....or more
but honestly...the chance of getting caught is slim at best..
we have no reports of anyone being caught with flash counter issues...
but if you must zero it out, you would have to go through installing CWM again, and flashing the counter reset zip file, and installing the 3e recovery again...
I honestly wouldnt worry about it.....g
Thanks

Hi guys,
I just received my USB jig I ordered from eBay, and for some reason the flash counter isn't being reset. The phone enters download mode, and states it has cleared that data but when I boot it back up and check the count is where it was.
Has anyone else had a similar issue?
Cheers

hmm maybe the USB jig isnt fully functional, I remember reading that if it isnt soldered with a certain ohm it might not work..but not sure tho best ask in the USB jig thread...
sounds like you got a bogus one or it died during transport. If you can try to pry it open and make sure everything soldered is still connected. Otherwise its probably just a dud.
Thanks for the help guys. I believe the person I bought it from is also active on these forums, so hopefully he'll replace it asap
Thanks again
Try to replace from where u got it....
i have issue with usb jig too, i had it for a few months and it was working flawless, but today when i tried to reset the binary counter it didn`t worked that well...
i switched my phone off and waited until the vibration, then plugged the usb jig and after a few secs the factory mode appeared but it was still showing the custom binary and the yellow triangle after reboot...
so do you think the jig broke down or samsung put some kind of a new protection in the recent roms. i`m running 2.3.5 CheckRom Revolution HD 3.1.1...
What kernel rev are you running? The more recent ones have a new bootloader that no longer works with the jig.
You probably have new bootloader from Samsung while updating to 2.3.5. Look for how to get old bootloader back on your device or how to get the jig to reset the counter with new bootloader and it will work.
I had the same problem, but this Patch solved it! It's because samsung disabled the reset counter function since android 2.3.4

It worked for me.. I have Siyah 2.1.1 and Checkrom 3.1.1 running
It works... thanks!

All packages below this point have the old bootloader so you can safely reset the binary counter with a Jig.
If you've already flashed a full package from elsewhere or updated using KIES and cannot reset your binary counter using the Jig just flash this package in the PDA or Bootloader section of Odin to replace the bootloaders and then you can reset the counter: http://www.multiupload.com/LQQBRQVJUD
Here are the new bootloader tarball if you want to flash them back after resetting your binary counter: http://www.multiupload.com/5LNOCL7KPV

I don't mean to bring up an old thread, but it seems more apt to continue the conversation than to start a new one.
What is the latest version ROM that has a boot img that is still "jig-able"?
I had CheckROM v4 (KK5 based), then tried the leaked ICS (LP2). I then restored back to my old ROM via CWM recovery (I made a backup before), and while everything is back, I have this yellow exclamation mark. The jig doesn't work anymore. I assume CWM does not restore the bootloader, just the system, data, and cache. I even noticed the modem was left at LP1 (I used to have KI4).
Thanks.

You need to use ODIN to flash a stock rom to restore the device completely to factory
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16781156&postcount=2
I used xwki8 from the link above via odin to be able to use the jig.
I then turned my phone off, used the jig to boot into download mode to flash cwm and miui. Doing it this way seems to have prevented me getting the "I'm not official and shall spam a giant annoying yellow triangle at you" symbol
Hope this helps

Not the answer I wanted to hear, but I guess I had no choice. I was hoping I could just flash the boot loader by itself, but I couldn't find it as a separate image.
So that's what I did - flashed stock, rooted, and started all over.
Thanks.
Hi guys, just new to these forums. I was forced to sign up due to my problems. just about 2 days ago i flashed these to my Galaxy Note Korean unit (SHV-E160S):
Tegrak-Kernel-Build-32-for-SHV-E160S-FA09.zip
Tegrak-Kernel-Build-32-for-SHV-E160S-FA09recovery.tar
i used Odin to flash the recovery file then booted into recovery mode to flash the kernel.. im sure i did right because i was able to use superuser and change my boot animation. unfortunately i found another update to the .tar and .zip file. i'm pretty sure its for my phone too so i went ahead and did the same thing. i kinda made a mistake in the process, i think i wiped the cache and all. dunno if i wiped partition but in the end i am only able to go to recovery & download mode. the Note will power up but won't get past the "Galaxy Note" screen. after that i will just be black. it's weird because it can still connect to Odin on my laptop although the screen is still black. is it a soft-brick? right now i'm trying to download an ICS stock rom and will try flashing it with Odin. i someone can help me please do. sorry by the way if this is a Korean Galaxy Note. this is the best category i could post since the AT&T and the SHV-E160S are the same in specs and all. hope someone could help me and spare me the pain from sending my unit for repair!
Sounds like a soft brick.. it seems you flashed perhaps the wrong file the last time otherwise it would be working like the last flash? ..I don't use odin often but I would restore my backup or just start over and use the last files to flash until you find something different
yeah i tried the others. i am able to flash the 1st recovery.tar but i cant seem to copy the .zip kernel because i dont have access to usb
about to flash stock ICS using Odin, hope this works! i just have one file which is a .tar file, hope this is the right file and don't brick!
OMG, i just pissed my pants *kidding*, the flashing of the stock ROM worked! and not onl that, i'm on ICS! all thanks to xda=developers forum for giving me the idea to flash a stock ROM! thanks guys! i'll never root my phone again i'd rather stay safe. thanks for the reply friend! ICS rocks!

Hey Guys,
I was just wondering if someone could advise me on this,
Just got an S3 and of course its got lovely warranty Which i dont want to void JUST yet =P...
Could anyone tell me on how to extract my current carriers firmware to a file which i could flash alter just in case there is ever a need to take it back to the shop?
Also, the GS2 jig doesn't work for the S3 so, i see people are using the "triangle away app", but if they use that,
Wont they be able to see that the ROM has been rooted?
So how would i flash it back to Stock, then reset the binary so that they would never know?
Thanks a bunch guys!
Oh and i did try to search for this Rom extraction but the only thing i found was for how to do it for a HTC...
Thanks again

There's a windows program that you can use to download stock firmware called checkfus downloader. Flashing it through Odin will not trip the flash counter.
And what you need to do is run triangle away before you flash stock to reset the counter, then flash a stock firmware (which removes root and flashes stock recovery) then wipe data through stock recovery and reboot this sets the flash counter to 0 and your status will be normal.

Nice one,
Will get on the case now =P...
Time to play with my new toy ^_^
Just a quick question...
I downloaded Check Fus Downloader,
Got my Firmware etc etc,
But its a zip file,
Wont that increase my binary count if flashed through recovery?
If i wanted to make my phone so that it looks like its never been flashed?...
If i was on a custom Rom,
Then flashed this stock Firmware,
Then used triangle away,
The ROM is going to be rooted so they will know its been modified?
I thought the process would be,
(On a custom Rom): Install triangle away,
Then used ODIN to flash the stock firmware
Then i will be back to 0, original firmware unrooted?
But i cant do that with a zip file..
Please help
I have the international edition of the S3 that a was messing around with, and I ended up installing some rom and now I can't even get into recovery. I've searched around and tried multiple methods of fixing it. The only thing I can access is download mode. Can anyone help?

this is file come from sammobile.com website
providing u the right PIT file with flasher
http://www.mediafire.com/?ddfpfkk2pb8326k
connect ur mobile , open odin program and then press on PIT button and navigate PIT files then (as i think) choose the latest PIT file with name i9300 (ur mobile Model) and latest date and then hit start ..... good luck but i recommend u send it to ur Samsung repair center if warranty cover
good luck

Exactly this^^^^....pit file flashing is an absolute last resort, not a first solution
did you tried flashing 4.0.4 stock rom with odin?
same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago, flashing 4.0.4 and after that flashing 4.1.2 fixed it.
try to do not mess with pit especially if you didn't backup your efs folder. it is not needed.

okay? the first thing to do here is just flash a stock ROM, no need for pit files
Mine was stuck before than samsung logo, on the model number screen. Almost 1 second or less after opening the device.
Then i flashed 4.0.4 and magically it opened without any loop or something. Its useless to flash 4.1.2 or any other jb stock rom, for some reason it seems not fixing the loop issue.
Again, there is no problem related with pit files.

It's all individual, what worked for you might not work for others. Don't say that flashing JB is useless, because it's not
I flashed stock 4.0.4 firmware through odin. The operation was successful, but I was still unable to enter recovery. What am I doing wrong?

Follow the steps to root and flash your custom ROM again as if you just got your phone. The same thing happened to my T999, and it took me 3 tries doing this to finally get back into Recovery.
try to flash in odin stock rom then root use cwm then try to go to recovery..
My cousin's having the same exact issue and we've been unable to find the proper rom. Can anyone please tell me where to get one? I've downloaded some "international" ones but when i try to upload it it keeps telling me failed, i've tried at least 4 or 5 different roms.
ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!

Try several times before giving up. Sometimes it works after when the device feels that you've had enough stress and fear.
I mean the problem is common but it's solved in different ways or different repeats.
But it seems that your problem is a software problem that can be solved.

Not sure what the CM updater uses, but I have tried to update with Philz, got stuck in an installation loop of the update itself.
Tried to use my jig and flash back to stock right now, got into download mode and was able to flash back to stock, but right now, I got into download with the jig, flashed stock ROM, and got a bootloop but am UNABLE to get into any recovery at all.
Pretty screwed up. Really need some suggestions here, guys.
Any ideas?!
I can get into download mode and flash via Odin (USB drivers installed via Windows 8)
Flashes successfully, installs stock recovery, reboots into bootloop.
No idea how to fix it.
Not a noob here. Nothing is working.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I had the same problem and I ended up finding a working CWM tar file that can be installed using ODIN and I was then able to boot into CWM fine.
This is the exact file name: recovery-cwmtouch-6.0.2.7-GTI9300
I don't remember where I downloaded it from, but if you Google the exact file name I am pretty sure you'll find it. Just flash it using Odin and you'll be good to go.

Well, now I'm even more f****ed than before, because I had a zero count, but after trying this, I got a custom count in download, and I still cannot get into recovery.
Nothing works.
Bye, bye warranty.
Edit:
The 6.0.2.7 version by MSKIP worked, but the updated one did not.
I got recovery, now I'll see if I can flash stock and recovery to get my counter back to zero.
Sorry to hear about the counter. I'd suggest rooting your device, installing Triangle Away, resetting your flash counter and then finally unrooting your device by installing stock ROM from SamMobile or such. That's the best route if you want your warranty to remain intact.
