I have had this issue lately, my Rezound will freeze up and reboot randomly after taking a pic. Not every time, just randomly, here and there.
One time I couldn't get the phone to turn on until i did a battery pull.
anyone else experience this?
I Must be the only one, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
first thing i do when something like this happens to my phone is ruu.
then if still happens, i use warranty.

curious, do you do that with your computer every time you have a problem...
In this case the OP hasn't provided enough info about his device, what ROM, is the unit really hot... Has he flashed something new lately... He could be stock...

stock rom don't usually get random reboots so i assumed that either the rom or kernel have been changed and when you ruu the phone, usually the problems disappear.
and yes, for the question about computer.
when i get a problem with my computer, i backup my stuff to an external hard drive then i do a factory reset and start over.

I have a replacement on the way from Verizon. This will be #3
Hopefully 3's a charm

I read that 3.6 will be better then 3.5, How much better? well see
After I get a phone that works and root it, Im sure the devs will have ICS w/ sense 4.0 baked in for our pleasure.
My Dinc came w/ sense 1.0 and i wound up with sense 3.5 on it before I retired it and it worked great w/ nil's Rom

well, sense 3.6 and up are ics so yes it's much better than 3.5 which is gb,
but sense 4.0 is totally different than 3.6. its like a new ui.

Sorry, but no such luck. HTC in there infinite wisdom has been using the new sense versions as a selling point for new phones. So even though the Rezound will get ICS, it will be with Sense 3.6. The good news is though, you can use a custom ICS ROM that has Sense 4.0 like this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1630696
Just a suggestion.
If I could just interject with a question of my own...
are these Sense 4.0 roms fully working? I thought I heard that the radios or something didn't work on ICS ROMs but I really don't know what the hell I'm talking about
Just only a small quirk here and there. They work very well and can run them as dailys.

Radios work, wifi works. Animations not so much, it has some strange quarks like wifi will randomly give out and the keyboard for me sometimes just stops working. Has to be lock screen on/off'd.

That's really a grey area imo, for heavy use it's not good. It bogs down quick and just seems like it'd be best to wait awhile before claiming it as a replacement for your daily driver. I wouldn't count on it in any situation where you have to have your phone.

I am running Rezrom S4 2.1 (sense 4) as my daily driver. Besides bluetooth not working 100%, i have had ZERO issues, no reboots, no lags, no force closes. No camera issues (i tale lits of pictures), i use go-keyboard so i have no issues with in that area. I have never dropped my wifi while at home or public. i prefer unlocking my device with lock screen versus other methods using stock lockscreen. If there is issues i have not found them or i do not use the apps that cause the errors.
For me, this rom is definitly ready for everyday use. Results will vary for each user.....
My advice try both sense versions and all of the roms before making a judgmebt based off other users experiences.....
Good luck.
The newest pkmon works almost 100%. It is smooth, good battery life, no real downsides over sense 3.6. It is an upgrade to move to pkmon.

I'm on the fence here guys and need some either reassurance or confirmation of my fears/concerns.
Let me start by saying i'm borderline pissed off that I pay for a Sprint contract and yet VM is getting ICS possibly far before Sprints EVO 3d...This is a large driving force behind wanting to root.
So anyways here are my concerns..
-It's a VM build...does this cause adverse affects?? Lower priority?? ETC??
-I Roam most of the time and use a custom PRL. Is this possible with the ICS ROMS??
-I want EVERYTHING to work still...I do not want to comprimise things not working for ICS. I'm not including app incompatibility here...more or less saying everything working that would work if we had an official ICS release.
Additional questions..not really concerns..
-Is there any roms currently with Sense 4.0 that are fully functional as This would be nice considering we'll never see it officially.
-Can I get better performance??
Lastly, If I do decide to root where do I start...I see tutorials but they say from hboot such and such etc..however I have no idea what I have on my phone to know what tutorial to use...I just got it 2 months ago, and i've fully OTA updated it. I came from an optimus v to sprint evo 3d...I had my optimus rooted and had custom roms on it.
I say Root, but I always root my phones.
You need to find out what hboot you are on, take back cover off, remove battery, put battery back in, cover back on, then hold power and down volume rocker. You will get to a white screen and it will tell you which hboot you have. Since you say you have OTA updated, you are likely on 1.5.
You should go through the downgrade process to get you on 1.4 which will allow full s-off and be the simplest route for flashing firmware/ROM's.
I have been using the VM ICS leaks since they came out and the Dev's did their
thing on them and I haven't had anything not work. I am using MeanROM ICS and Mike keeps it updated pretty regularly.
Whatever you do, do not install the VM firmware file you may see posted. It is unnecessary and will likely cause issues.
There are no ROM's that have fully working Sense 4.0 + ICS + all other items(3D Wimax).

If you want EVERYTHING to work, do NOT go with an ICS rom at this time.
They are still working on all the bugs. Camera issues. 3D issues.
3D is important to me. That's why I bought this phone. Some videos won't play in 3D, some 3D games won't work in ICS and 3D you tube videos will not work in ICS. (at least that is the last I read).
I'm staying with GB for now until I'm sure all the bugs are worked out and everything works. It may never happen.
I feel the same way. I don't want to compromise anything for ICS.

I do recommend you root. The custom roms beat the snot out of the stock.
As long as you use a Sense based ics Rom, everything works. I take 3d pics and video and just watched a 3d YouTube video just to check.
While they are not yet as refined as the Gb roms, everything works.

Two biggest benefits of rooting regardless of the phone:
1) Full system backups in recovery.
2) The ability to remove all carrier crapware.
Now, there are several other benefits, such as upgrading to more updated ROMs that will eventually not be available for this phone (it will never officially receive Android 5.0 or Sense 4.0).
As for fully functional, I'm running the Booster Shot port with Sense 3.6. Silky smooth and fully functional, including 3D.
If you choose to root, fully read and understand the process so you don't brick your phone. Get your HBOOT versions (mentioned in a previous post in this thread) and root accordingly.
Definitely boost in performance even if you don't go with ICS. I compared my rooted 3d with my roomates 3d and my 3d runs so much faster it seems like it isn't even the same phone.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
I would recommend root, since you have a lot of options to choose different ROMs.
No Sense 4.0 ROM is working correctly. There are issues with 3d and with call drops, what is more important I think Anyway, most ROMs using Sense 3.6 run ok.
I also have the benefit of having daily contact with my rooted evo vs my girlfriends not rooted evo... Mine phone is way faster at everything.... Even before I went to meanrom ics....
The difference is night vs day...
If you really want to see the performance of your phone, the way it should be most definetly Root it.
I haven't done it myself but I'm 100% positive google will find you a list of benefits from obtaining root...
And btw even tho its a little weird and in beta my favorite thing about ics is google chrome... It's just an awesome phone browser, just what stands out in my mind atm.. ask me tomorrow and ill prolly say something different.

If your on the fence, don't do it. If your going to commit to modding your phone, you have to know 100% what you're up against. For most, that's bricking your phone in a certain way so you can downgrade it. Than getting the hboot down through a tool in a LINUX distro. Than going through ruu than using revolutionary. And lastly flashing a recovery. It's not difficult
As long as you know what you are up against.

My two cents:
Root it.
Backup your stock system, flash an ICS rom. If you don't like it, simply restore back to the original setting. You can still add tweaks and goodies not available to the non-rooted.
The beauty of being rooted is it's yours, totally yours, too make how you want it.
Root, root, root!

exactly...every sense based rom is fully functional with 3d also...this is a one way street to root....root...backup your rom...flash...any chance you don't like you can always return to your previous state...unrooted...since there are no drawbacks except the fact that you have to setup all over again at a new rom, can't see a reason not to....with these guys here after all it's child play to root and to reverse it so no worries...

I think you are correct on Sprint roms, however that's not what I'm reading on GSM roms. I'm constantly reading and paying attention to the bugs people complain about.
When I'm confident that everything works, I will definitely flash a ICS rom.
to add:
OP's original question to root or not to root. That is the question.
I say YES! Root by all means. Because he is on Sprint CDMA network. Lots of good roms there. By all means root and enjoy the phone.
Absolutely!

Thanks for all the replies, I'm still debating this though mainly because i'm wondering if there would be benifit to waiting till the official spring ics comes and then letting devs release some roms based on that one instead of the virgin mobile one.
I'm thinking then we could flash the sprint firmware and possibly that updated firmware would be a plus, to performance.
Also...I see that I would likely have to downgrade to Hboot 1.4. Is there a performance/feature hit in doing so?
I guess its not really a question of if I do it anymore but when...before or after official sprint ics OTA.

Ok, so I just checked and I'm on hboot 1.5. Fully stock, fully updated as stated. Can someone point me to the threads and steps I need to take to do this?
Edit: I'm only asking for verification on steps/threads to use as I do not want to mess up and use an outdated tutorial or something and f up my phone. I just want to take every precaution to ensure I do not end up with a brick, and I follow the exact steps Needed for my situation. Not trying to make anyone angry that I'm asking for something I could search for...I just trust you guys to point me to where i need to be more than i do myself searching the correct tutorial for my situation.
Also when on the optimus v i used clockwork mod recovery...I'm assuming this isn't the recovery to use for this phone? And also this five minute wait to edit my post is frustrationg >< lol.
All you need to do is go into the development threads and read. I'm 59 years old for Christ sake, and figured out how to root my phone by reading the first few "stickied" posts. Took all of 15 minutes to get hboot 1.5 removed and hboot 1.4 with s-off installed.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Well yeah, Not to flame you but the amount of time you've been thinking about doing it and getting advise if you should or not, I would think you'd be doing some reading on how to do it.
If you get stuck, there's plenty of people to help you out.
Just make sure you know enough first so you are confident in doing it.
Hey everyone,
I have had my Sprint Evo 3D since July 28th of last year. I knew right away that I wanted to root, having played around a little with unofficial OS's when I had my BlackBerry.
I am hboot 1.5,, S-on, and unlocked with HTC's unlocker.
Since then, I have run a few different Sense-based ROMs for Gingerbread. Current firmware is 2.89.
I have run an ICS ROM based on the VM leak, but it didn't really play nice with my phone, so I went back to a Gingerbread ROM.
Recently I have been trying out a ROM based on Sprint ICS, but it is in the early stages and actually has a few of the same issues as the one based off of the VM leak.
I understand that the ICS is relatively new to the Evo 3D, and that development takes time. That having been said, I just wanted to start a thread detailing what I do with my phone, what kind of issues I have had with ICS, and asking for opinions on where I should go from here.
I use my phone primarily to surf the web, play games, text, email and make phone calls.
The Gingerbread ROM I have been on was stable and played games just fine. Both ICS ROMs I have tried, I experience force closes most of the time, and severely wonky performance the rest of the time.I play games like Dad Space. Mass Effect, 9MM, and most of the 3D games made available for the Evo. I don't knowif the gaming troubles I have experienced with ICS ROMs is because of the ROMs, or because these games haven't been optimized for ICS yet,
I am thinking of trying out MeanROM, but do not know whether I should try to change my hboot or not, or relock, flash the OTA, and start all over again. I am intimidated by trying to get S-off, I mean I have flashed some ROMs, but I am hardly an expert.
So basically, where should I go from here in order to maximize my phone's potential for my purposes? I still have the backup I made with my Gingerbread ROM, so I could always do that.....
I was also wondering about superwipe, but do not want to lose my 3D pictures and videos.
Thanks in advance for your help and patience.
Lots of questions. Super wipe doesn't erase sd cards, so your pictures will be safe. If you want to make sure, very them off first.
I recommend you get s-off first using the wire trick. It'll make things easier for you with respect to flashing Roms and radios, hboot, etc and takes most people like five minutes once they're setup.
Install a custom recovery that can be flashed through bootloader. Recommend 4ext.
Install Meanrom through recovery.
Update firmware using freeza's zip available in CDMA development.
Read, Search, Read again, ... Then Ask with Tapatalk 2
Okay, did the wire tric, got S-off. Updated firmware and hboot(losing back compatibility to Gingerbread in the process, but oh well). Am currently hopping between 3 ROMs on my 3VO: a rooted stock ROM, MeanROM ICS, and a ROM I am beta testing for a buddy. This all went down last night, Can't wait to see if I can play ganes again.
A question about MeanROM ICS:
In the MeanROM thread, it is stated that the camera has panorama and HDR....but I don't see it.
And I cannot get gameloft games to play on any ICS ROM?

Hi...I'm new to the world of rooting and such...I rooted my Thunderbolt last week using the one-click program (found from different thread on XDA)...Now, I would like to install a more current rom since ICS is still not available. Also, I would like to improve this phone's perforrmace (I know it can do more).
There are a lot of different rom's at there and I am looking for something stable and does not cause any loss of phone features(very important)...The sense interface is nice, but I do not know what else people are using. If possilbe, something that is not an all day affair to download, setup and so-on.
Please give me some thoughts (I know this is very subjective, but most of you will have better insight that I do about what will work and the level of difficulty to set-up).
Also what happens to the phone when future updates are released from either HTC or Verizon??
My phone is Sense 2.1, Gingerbread 2.3.4 and Software(Radio??): 2.11.605.19710RD.
Also, will I have to worry about things like different kernels or radio upgrades??
I appreciate everyone's input in advance and I know there will be many thoughts.

HTC finished our ics build and we are now waiting on Verizon to decide whether or not to push the ota. If you're looking for a stable rom and everything works then try thundershed 1.6 or any rom with that as a base. They are all very good roms. I personally prefer sfkcm7.2. As for ics liquid ics is really very good and most of the issue with it are minimal. If a working camcorder is a must then its not for you.

The Liquid ICS I think I will stay away from for now...What will happen when OTA updates are sent??
Sidebar: Currently, my Standalone GPS Services icon is constantly flashing in the toolbar and draining the battery...only way around is to manually toggle off & on the service...This started after I ran v6 supercharger script...Did I do something wrong or does this script not work well with the Thunderbolt??
Thanks again,

The only thing I would suggest that you download is 4ext recovery. There is a thread for it in the development forums. It will replace clockworkmod recovery with 4ext recovery and it is all touch screen. You can buy the full version from the market and I will say it is worth the money. If you dint have titanium backup that is another that you should download. You can get a free version from the market. Don't worry about otas once you flash an aosp rom. That has been disabled in the rom to prevent bad things from happening. Most sense based roms have it removed to but if you get the notification then postpone it as long as possible and Google how to disable it. I know the name of the file that needs to be renamed I just don't remember exactly where it is located.
