Hello, I’m having trouble fixing my girls phone and could use some help I’m posting here as a last resort. Here’s the situation.
Phone is HTC EVO 3D S-ON and has never been S-OFF or Rooted. But the phone has stopped booting and I can only get into Hboot and fastboot I have tried flashing the OTA RUU buy placing the PG86IMG.zip on the root of the sdcard and also pushing the file buy fast boot and I keep getting a sig check error “FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)”
The RUU is the same version that I am running now here’s the file name but its not the only one I tried.

Are you htcdev unlocked? If so, you need to run "fastboot OEM lock" from the cmd

If the phone is completely stock (locked bootloader and S-ON) you can only run the RUU from Windows, since any PG86IMG.zip file flashed from the bootloader in that configuration has to be signed by HTC. You can download the 2.89.651.2 RUU.exe from one of the links in this post and give that a try, but it sounds like there might be something else wrong with the phone.

I tried the following RUU, and the output are the same.

If u just want to root, I supposed u r already htcdev unlocked, just flash cwm with fastboot and install superuser 3.13 sign.zip with cwm and u r rooted. Don' t ve to b s off for custom.

go to htcdev.com, unlock your bootloader.
Go to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1870652
download Quick Root 1.1.13 follow the instructions.
Error 140 is bootloader version error. You can't just run any RUU. It has to be the proper RUU for your version (region), and it must be equal or newer than what is already installed on the device. You can't run an older RUU (previous hboot number) unless you are S-off. So the error you are getting is correct and expected.
Just unlock the bootloader as recommended by the previous replies. Or you can look at this (I can't personally vouch for it): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2070140
Hi guys,
I had Speed Rom 8.0 installed and wanted to bring it back to OTA Wind ICS Ruu. I downloaded:
•RUU_Ruby_Globalive_WWE_1.46.1500.3_Radio_1.10.550L .01v2DC_30.69.550L.10_release_229312_signed.exe
I read that I had to lock the bootloader to run the RUU exe but it failed giving me error [140] Incorrect bootloader!
Afterwards I tried other RUU (tmobile, telus) and nothing has worked so far. However I must have messed up along the way and now I am in a boot loop!
I can still get into fastboot/bootloader. Currently I have the bootloader unlocked again. I'm S-ON

Alright I managed to install SpeedRom 8.0 again. So at least I can boot into the OS.
However the question still remains, how do I go back to Wind Mobile ICS RUU?

You need to lock your boot loader, a ruu won't flash without it locked.

Locking it is no problem, however after the phones goes into a boot loop and I can only access fastboot/bootloader.
My problem is that I'm not sure which Wind Mobile RUU I need to use. Everyone I tried gives me the "wrong bootloader" version error.
Issue is that SpeedRom 8.0 is Tmobile Based and not Wind based.
Do I have execute "Mainver Error Fix" prior to running flashing the RUU?

You have the same issue as I did; installing a T-mobile ROM will generally screw up the bootloader and other system level software. By doing that when you try to go to stock it will complain about not being able to update.
The solution is to get S-off and then force updates. Once you have S-off then the RUU exe will force the install and everything will be OK.

Hello everyone I wanted to put my original problem with the evo 3d, after having tinkered a lot with the 4EXT trying various roms including yas9 10 and smiui that I loved very much I decided to attempts- off .
Reading the various threads on how to make s- off I realized that I need the stock rom that I promptly tried to reinstall but always gave me error is version zip exe version .
Now the situation ' as follows:
I can access the bootloader
S-ON hboot-1.53 0007
The 4EXT 'was removed I tried to flash it manually via fastboot but it goes into bootloop does not start I was able to start another recovery of which the name escapes me now but without SmartFlash and that ' only exists in the 4EXT no rom that I've tried to install allowed me to restart the phone.
This ' my getvar all

In order to flash a ruu you must relock the bootloader with 'fastboot oem lock'. After this try again flashing the ruu file.

Unlock again with the bin file from fastboot and flash THIS (my upload) 4ext recovery and tell me if you can enter the recovery. If you stuck on boot loader loading the pg86img remove the sdcard and try again to enter the recovery.

My HTC One is S-OFF, unlocked bootloader, with TWRP 2.6.3.3 installed. Not sure if it matters but I'm running ARHD 82.0. I already have the 6.10.531.9 RUU file from the official HTC Support website.
So my question is: How do I run this RUU? Do I need to do anything to my phone before running the RUU.exe file? And after flashing the RUU, will I still receive OTA's from T-Mobile?
Thanks.
You have to relock your bootloader. After that, just boot your phone into fastboot and run the RUU.exe
You'll receive the OTA from TMO again. I've done it a few time.

Yes you'll retain your S-OFF after it and you can unlock it again if you want.

@JSing
FYI, if you are S-OFF you do not need to relock your bootloader to run a RUU or firmware.
Which RUU are you using, by chance. I am doing the same thing and trying to figure out which one I need. North American, unlocked. 32 GB. T Mobile.

I have the situation with the guys above me. I have HOX+, rooted, unlocked bootloader, hboot 1.72 and s-on. I wanted to make it s-off. I've used rumrummer and firewater but they support hboot 1.54 and older only.
I have been searching the internet like crazy for the past two days, but to no avail.
There's one YouTube video showing the person did it but never mentioned on how to do it.

If u find a way to s-off plz let me know.
PS: I am not sure, but i guess rumrunner and firewater are no longer supported. Sunshine is the only way now but u gotta pay 25$ for it.
