Is there not a bootloader unlock yet for 1.15, or am I just not seeing it?
message brought to u by my JellyBombed GalaxyS3
All HTC phones are unlockable. They offer a means to unlock the bootloader when you sign up to their developer website and agree to their terms and service. If you mean to inquire about a security off exploit for this particular hboot, then the answer is no. There is no known exploit for acquiring s-off at this time
i did mean s-off

Apart from firmware, you can modify most everything on the phone
i did know that, im a samsung person, this phone for my brother, he had evo4g before this one, which gave me alot of experience with the way the bootloader is setup.

I'm ready for some rom's.... I guess it's kinda slow getting going due to availability issues.
Gotta wait for Asus to release the tool to unlock the boot loader before we get custom roms.
Oh, I thought it was rooted already but I see the latest update has not. Thanks

Latest update has been rooted, and root does not mean that we can start flashing ROMs.
For that we need a recovery, and for that we need an unlocked bootloader.
Please check back sometime next month, after Asus has released the bootloader unlock tool.

An unlocked bootloader isn't needed for recovery.
Unlocked bootloader is necessary to let you boot the recovery partition. Why do you think we have no recovery yet? Give us the proof of what you say or don't troll.
Exactly the same problem in HTC phones, where you can't instal custom recovery as long as bootloader is S-ON.
Asus will release a tool to unlock in February.

I'm a troll just because you don't know what your talking about? Proof, my old Droid X and my Droid Bionic, both have locked bootloaders, both have recovery.
Devs say it's impossible for our device. All devices are designed differently.

I used to have a Motorola Atrix. The bootloader on that was a 1024bit encryption. It has a recovery before the bootloader was unlocked. It was also a Tegra 2 which I'm sure is very similar.

Yes if unlock is made through HTC website or tool, you get a S-ON bootloader but are able have recovery. But there is at least a partial unlock. I know that because I own a desire S (not mentioned in my sig), and choosed to unlock bootloader with Revolutionary tool so I'm now S-OFF.
Instead of flaming me (this is totally non productive), why not waiting for things to come? Do you seriously think that if it was possible with locked bootloader on Prime no competent dev would have tried?
Rather flame Asus that still use those middle age technics to protect their devices and above all contracts with Google.
the bootstrap method doesn't work for the prime most likely, or since asus has promised us the unlock tool no one has tried to do it that way.

I'm not trying to dump gasoline on the fire, but please help me understand how I have a custom recovery on my TF101 but the bootloader is still locked.
It's an honest question, I'm not a programmer, dev, or other person who fiddles with devices at a "low level". Just a simple network engineer in training. though if I had the time I'd love to turn my hand to making a custom ROM.

You wrongly start flaming others but don't want them to flame you? I think there's two reasons we don't have recovery, 1. not many devs have a prime, and the few devs you normally see developing recovery haven't had the chance to dev for the prime yet, and 2. once Asus stated they would allow for it to be unlocked the current devs decided to wait. It is entirely possible that recovery on the prime isn't possible on the prime without an unlocked bootloader, but I highly doubt that. It was said to be impossible for other devices as well but wasn't true.

like I am buyting at&t htc one but seller said its unlocked just by codes given by at&t itself (as the seller is stating) and he says nothing else like rooting or bootloader unlocked is not done on it . But I will check if he is true or lieing as he is not telling me if its bootloader unlocked too . So just tell me this that if its (only) bootloader unlocked then I will see s-off instead of s-on ??? or I can still see s-on even if the device is just bootloader unlocked ,,,,,
how to check that its not bootloader unlocked ?! and I will surely get future updates ?! From where it will get the future updates ? like by htc server or still by at&t ?
Turn off device... Press and hold volume down the press power until boot loader comes up... All the info you need is there... Is boot loader unlocked and s-on/off are two different things.... If he says is only unlocked you should see boot loader locked and s-on...

Hi. Just after a few answers really.. I've just recently upgraded from a Desire HD, which i rooted and ROM'd using the now non existent Advanced hack kit.. Now that was easy enough to do as it was one piece of kit that did everything, but i've done a little reading about rooting and ROM'ing the One Max and i'm a little daunted as it's a new phone and don't fancy bricking it at this stage and have heard various people saying there are a few ways to do it..
Now i know i have to visit HTCDEV and sign up to unlock the bootloader, which i've yet to do.. But i just need to know if there's a similar one stage program after unlocking the bootloader like the hack kit on the previous phone. If it's too involved i won't bother, but would be nice to know if there is one..
Any help would be appreciated.

You don't have to visit HTC Dev to unlock if your on Verizon. You can use rumrunner found in the Original Android Dev section to unlock, S-Off and root your device... If your not with Verizon, I believe you need to use HTC Dev and then you can use rummrunner or fire water also in Original Android Dev section.

Yeah i'm in the UK so no Verizon here...
So what you're saying is then, once i've unlocked the bootloader via HTCDEV, that i can use rumrunner to do the whole rooting thing in one program?? What about this, this seems to look similar to the advanced hack kit?

I'm in UK and used firewater to temp root. unlock and s-off. then after that installed custom recovery and then rooted through that. then custom rom'd. it is quite involved as you need HTC drivers working fastboot and adb etc I haven't heard of anyone using the tool you quoted since I've had phone so it's up to you. and the tool probably won't be just a one click. what are your details in hboot?

Do you mean "bumped," with TWRP recovery?
If so, you'll still get notified about the OTA. The OTA should fail to run, but on my last device some people had the KitKat update run even though they had a custom recovery, and it screwed up all sorts of things. So don't accept the OTA if you get it.
To make sure you don't get the OTA, see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/psa-stop-taking-ota-updates-update-t2909412
If by "unlocked" you mean something else, please explain.
As long as the phones system is totally original with no mods or deleted files you should get ota...depends on how it was unlocked.

Im sure if its unlocked it can still get ota by flashtool. If system is changed. But as far as root or bump. Certainly can. It can be bumped stumped etc. And flashtool back for ota. Depending how it was unlocked. Meaning if it was rooted to unlock then will have to flashtool back im almost sure. Again if your wanting to make sure it stays unlocked usually once unlocked it will stay. I guess it will depend how. And if oem unlocked then im sure re locking is not much of an option. However you should be fine from many of these worries. Hope not to confuse you. Im very tired. Lol. Trying to cover all bases. There are many ways to unlock many devices on many carriers so its really hard to say. But there are mostly generalized options one would believe.

Please suggest me an easy way to ROOT this device?
Which is the most customizied Rom available on this Sprint Thread, I am sure I should not be flashing any other Carrier Roms or International Version of ROM which may Brick the device.

Does Sunshine say it can do a carrier unlock? Because last I checked Sprint is CDMA, not GSM...
"Sprint SIM unlock features are considered experimental." If the M9 is like my other HTC phones, the command to s-on is "fastboot oem writesecureflag 3" Note: this will brick a device that has any oddities that require s-off like mismatching aboot to firmware, etc. In other words, be sure you are full stock before running the command.

As I stated earlier, in the sunshine thread, jcase states Sprint carrier unlock is experimental and not guaranteed to work.

So you want a SIM unlock? Sunshine is the only method and per the Devs of it, it isn't guaranteed. "SIM unlock for sprint M9 is considered experimental."
Edit: only other way is to call Sprint and have them unlock the SIM. If it's not subsidized, they should have no issues unlocking the SIM.

Edit: here is the stipulation on unlocking. Yes, the M9 is capable per this link. Please don't say carrier unlock doesn't work if they state it does and some of us had it happen quite easily...
