Hunting: Android 4.1 Jellybean - ZTE Merit Compatible - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As the title suggests, I am hunting for a ZTE Merit (Z990G) compatible version of the new Android 4.1 Jellybean. I've been searching for a few hours on google, other forums and this forum with no results. The closest I've come to is one for the ZTE Skate, but I don't want to risk a brick due to incompatibility. My phone is rooted successfully already, I just need the ROM now.
*edit*
I would also settle on ICS (ice cream sandwhich) if that is available.

[Q] About updating to JellyBean 4.1.1

Hi, i just want to know if i can just straight away update my phone to Jellybean from Ice cream sandwich because my phone is rooted. Am i suppose to unroot it or can i just update? Thanks in advance.
Nope. It's device specific. A developer has to adapt drivers and other software to allow android to work with your hardware.
If you can find your device model on XDA, you'd probably find some jellybean ROMS (software) for your phone.
P.S. Go read android terminology and stickies!

Im, sorry I'm a little noob. I have Samsung s3 and I want the original firmware. How am I suppose to do it?

[Q] Jellybean 4.1.2 or 4.2.1

I'm sorry but i'm kinda new to the android world, and recently i've acquired a Samsung S2. But i'm having some troubles regarding some stuff.
I've noticed Jellybean has already a scheduled release to february in Singapore.
I know that ICS is android 4.0.
My question is, Jellybean is 4.1.2 or 4.2.1 ? im kinda confused tbh
Jelly bean is both its android 4.1 up android 4.1 was the first jelly bean and 4.2 is the next version with a widget lock screen and better clock and keyboard

You could have answered this very easily without any effort yourself without creating a topic.
Just from a simple google search of "Android jelly bean" the first result very clearly tells you that JB is Android 4.1
http://www.android.com/about/jelly-bean/
XDA rule #1 is search before creating a topic.
Also, there is 4.2.2 to be released

[Q] Waiting for the stock Jelly Bean update?

You may have already heard of the impending JB update for your stock S2, that is, if you're the "stock guy". But don't you ever feel you want new Android earlier? Are you considering to "prison break" your Android? Get to the polls and share your thoughts.
PS: The jelly bean update has only surfaced on few carriers/regions. This post refers to jb update via Kies or OTA.
^^ "prison break" = modify(mainly rooting/flashing)
The jelly bean update is out its xxls8 have a look around open your eyes you may find it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2113489 also this isn't an ipone you don't jail break/ prison break you root and I'm fairly sure that you can just install the stock jelly bean ROM from stock recovery without root
What's the point of this thread
Never ever without root!
Terrible. Totally useless thread. Please don't do this ever again.

Custom ROM or Stock, please input.

hi , im the owner of HTC evo 4G LTE for about 4 months already
i'm still running stock and never installed any updates.
my phone info is
Hardware version : 0003
Sorftware version : 1.13.651.1 710RD
Android Ver : 4.0.3
i used to want to install the mean ROM but due to my busy schedule i didn't have the time yet
and after that they released the official jelly bean update and also the mean Bean and severals other custom ROM based on the jelly bean.
now i have the time to play with my phone and i really want to make my experience with android , especially with this EVOLTE better.
please advice me , is it better for me to update to the stock jelly bean ?
or install other Custom ROM that are based on jelly bean?
or stay in this stock ICS ?
i just want a stable phone with good speed and battery life to be use everyday with minimal hiccups.
because i heard bad things about the Jelly bean update that are causing some of the people here some trouble.
please advice as i'm really newbie in Android.
thank you so much.

Unlock your bootloader.. Get root.. Then u deff want to get s-off.. Then i would flash meanbean best rom for this phone:good: There are many guides on here in the dev section..
I would recommend that you go with one of the custom ROMs. The developers generally fix issues that are in the stock ROMs. Before you jump in, I would also recommend that you do a lot of reading. Are you rooted and unlocked? If not, here is a good place to start:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2026938
Your experience in customizing your phone will go a lot smoother if you achieve S-OFF. There are currently two methods that can be used:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2163013
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1964309
Once you are S-Off, you'll want to adjust your firmware:
http://themikmik.com/showthread.php...wel-Firmware-Collection-Latest-3-16-651-3-OTA
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704612
Once your firmware is up to date, you can flash a new ROM. I am a big fan of Viper4G, Operation Jelly Bean and JB Tranquility.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2124391
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2142977

http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?15582-ROM-JB-Tranquility-RLS3-Trans-and-Inverted-2-16-13
While I like Jelly Bean, if you want to stay with Ice Cream Sandwich, Bad Seeds and Team Anonymous have fun ICS ROMs (along with Team Venom).
Once again, I would highly encourage you to do a lot of reading. While it is not that difficult to customize your phone, your experience will be much better if you take the time to learn about what it is you are actually doing to your phone, what could go wrong, and how to fix issues that may arise. Good luck!
yeah, you'll definitely wanna get S-off. It's the easiest way to update radios and such without having to RUU. You said you now have extra time , so just read up as much as you can about the process. There's a thread in the original Dev section. I don't use htc./sense ROMs, but from what I've read, battery life is worse than ICS (on sense ROMs), and a lot of people don't like some of the changes made to sense in the JB update (I tried it for a minute and immediately hated the new battery use reporting, there's less info). After unlocking bootloader, and hopefully S-offing, I would suggest trying out PACman ROM by jamieG71 . It's a very solid AOSP (not HTC) ROM with tons of customization possible. And great battery life, especially when paired with ThickLizards komodo kernel.
Good luck, have fun
From my Evo LTE, yup.
okay
thx for the responses.
im totally stock, no root, no unlocked.
purelly stock, never did any upgrade since i bought this.
so i need to root first ? unlocked the bootloader ? or S-Off first ?
thank you.
so osrry for many silly question.

[Q] Jelly Bean for Newsmy Newpad T3

Hello guys
I may be posting this question on the wrong forum, but not sure where to put it since Im new here.
I know my way around Windows and PC hardware, but Im an absolute noob regarding installing ROMs on an Android tablet.
Im have the Newsmy Newpad T3 android tablet, bought from LightInTheBox.com, but I would love to get Jelly Bean on it. It's currently running Ice Cream Sandwich, I think. Its Android 4.0.3, which is working nicely, but I know Jelly Bean is somewhat better. My device has, according to the app named "SysInfoTool". an ARMv7 Rev 0 (v71) CPU.
Now, does one own a Jelly Bean ROM for this device? Or able to help me make one/find one and especially: I need noob instruction on how to get it installed. It's not just like inserting the Windows disc into your drive and begin installing, which I've done many times, so this is really terra incognita for me.
Best regards,
Michael N. Petersen, Denmark.
