No SIM unlock for 2012 Xperias, neither free nor paid. Overclocking is possible with a custom kernel, and an unlocked boot loader.
No SIM unlock for 2012 models? untrue.

This isn't true. The ones sold by NTT Docomo in Japan can be SIM unlocked for around 3000 yen. What they don't tell you, though, is that the WiFi Tethering won't work on other carriers' sim cards. (You would need to root it to get around that.)

OK, no *unofficial * SIM unlock.
No one, knows if any developer is working on a method for unlocking 2012 xperia's?
maybe unlocking the bootloader can unlock the sim lock also as it is done on the HTC Explorer.
i did not want to buy this phone if its not sim unlockable.
anyway thank you for your answers i would be thankful if anyone who has the phone can try it and write here.
wishing you all nice day

Paid For Tipo Unlock
Paid for Tipo unlock is now offered by the following sites;
network-unlockers
gsmunlocking.eu

Does anyone have any experience of unlocking the Tipo with any of these sites?

Hi there!!!
This is my first post!,so...hi everybody....
I tried to unlock the sim of my Xperia Tipo, I looked for diferents ways and I could´t (free ways).I was seeing the next method
***sorry i can't post links***.
This method works to several mobiles,I think that it could work on Xperia Tipo
a)you have to be root
b)you have to download the app Terminal Emulator
c)you have to have a SdCard
d) open the Terminal Emulator and pick the next commands
Su
cd / sdcard
mkdir desbloqueo
chmod 555 unlock
mount -o nosuid,ro,nodev -t vfat /dev/block/stl5 /sdcard/unlock HERE IS THE PROBLEM!
cat /sdcard/unlock/mits/perso.txt
e)now appear on the screen the code of unlock, with a lots zeros, we just need the 8 numbers before ot the 0's...write this number
f) continue with the commands
umount /sdcard/unlock
rm -r unlock
reboot
Now,when we switch on the mobile with another sim, we must introduce the 8 numbers of the code of unlock...
I couldn't , I had a problem when I did the mount, appear on the screen "No such file or directory"
I was looking for the file stl5 in dev/block, and in fact,it doesn't appear....
Does anyone know what is the content of stl5?Maybe, It's changed of name??
Sorry for my English and thank you...
Is it possible to unlock bootloader after sim unlock?

I have tried all of the cheaper sites that unlock and all of them have come back with nope sorry cant get you a code..
I have also been into two unlock shops in town and they have said the same thing, they cant unlock it...
my next course of action is going to Orange who it is locked to, they want £20 for doing it, might just pay it out now since everwhere else is saying no, but orange have said it could take up to 21 days to get the code..

Hi, first of all you can't mount into "unlock" directory because you never created it, change "mkdir desbloqueo" to "mkdir unlock" to make it work. Second probably you can't see stl5 because you need root access with the file explorer to get access to it.

I was reading about unlocking this phone and I'm not sure id there is a way to do it. I suppose it cannot be unlocked via the official way but I'm not sure about other ways.

You can still root it no problem, just not unlock bootloader.
However, you should still be able to unlock it via a paid for service. (Someone correct me if I am wrong)

No need to correct you
Paid service like SETool Box(which I personally advise), omnius, wotan server(they provide SIM unlock, not sure about bootloader unlock).
Also having this in mind: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25802604&postcount=144
if older than 12W14, only official unlock (of course with previously removed SIM lock)

Yes.
Long story:
Technically, you can unlock it(bootloader) now, it's just you won't be able to use it until you remove SIM lock, as SIM lock is also locking fastboot, which you need to access your unlocked bootloader.

I have one more question. With a custom kernel, does it really improve the overall experience?
I'm on ICS now and the phone isn't up to my expectations being honest. It's not as fluid and responsive as it should be even that I use a custom ROM (ICS pureness). So I wonder if a kernel would benefit the overall usage.
Above all, I find it troubled to do multitasking. It often needs to reopen the apps and it feels slow and games and apps lag even with the new Adreno drivers (I'm using Holo Launcher). I tried supercharging it a few months ago but I didn't notice it that much on ICS. Maybe JB runs better??
I'm seriously thinking about going back to GB. It feels snappier and more responsive. Altough I don't want to... :crying:

I SIM unlocked my Neo already but it still shows 'Bootloader unlock allowed = No'. Is that normal? May I unlock it now with the official way?

How you unlocked it? What program you used?
Did you try with different SIM cards?
I bought a code obtained from my phone model, carrier and IMEI.
Then I introduced another SIM card from a different carrier and my phone asked for that code. So, I introduced it and my phone now can be used with other carriers.
Then I inserted my SIM card again and I checked my phone unlock status. And it says 'no'.

Why you didn't follow my suggestion and used apps which I suggested?
Anw, I'm not sure now.
Install drivers from latest flashtool,
turn off phone, hold down menu key and connect cable to phone, let the PC recognize phone and install drivers,
start flashtool, click on lightning icon and select fastboot mode, click on "get ver info" and "get device info" in the main flashtool window you should see some info.
What does it say?
p.s. you can always try with testpoint method or by official method and see if it will work.

What are you complaining about? Why don't buy a ticket to watch a film or sth instead of being so rude?
Ok. I've got Flashtool 0.9.8 installed in GNU/Linux and Flashtool 0.9.5 in Windows 7.
It seems I cannot enter in fastboot mode within either one. In fact, after entering in flash mode (holding down back button) my phone always enters in flash mode except if I hold down the menu button, in which case it enters in normal (charging?) mode.

Well, in Spain almost all carriers SIM lock their phones.
hello everybody
Yesterday my phone asked me to update and i accepted it unfortunately.
I live in France, phone is bought here blocked by SFR operator.
One year ago i got the code to unblock from SFR and I unblocked it and since then i have used FREE, COSMOTE(Greece) and lately i m using BOUYGUES operator.
Problem:
After the update, phone got simlocked again and with my BOUYGUES sim it asks me for a "sim network unlock pin". I insert the code i had but it doesn't unlock it.
I called SFR and fun fact is that they claim that the unlock is permanant (they are not aware of this new issue) and the unlock code unique. I asked them the code to ensure what i had is correct and they confirmed... So code is 100% correct...
Since it was not working they told me to remove any sim card from the phone and do the following steps...
1 click on TELEPHONE icon
2 enter *#46744674 and press #
3 the code should disappear
4 then enter #7465625*638* and press #
5 you will now be prompted to enter the unlock code
6 enter the code NCK and press ok OK.
if code is good, phone gets unlocked
So while step 2-3-4 work fine, the #7465625*638*# disappears but step 5 never happens... There is not screen prompting me to insert the code....
I called Samsung after this and I told them everything i ve tried...
they proposed me to do this --> *#0111*CODE# and it will get unlocked... (super unfriendly french customer service hanged up on me)
I did it but nothing happen.. not even the *#0111*CODE# got disappeared like it happened with steps 2-4 above....
To me it looks like the new android 4.1.2 messed up everything....
Problem seems new... i found two posts in french describing the same problem with no solution but i cant post the links here.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks for reading this
Yeah, root it & unlock it.

Issue in process of rooting the phone - to unlock the phone
Hi,
I have similar problem with my Samsung Galaxy S II SGS2 GT-i9100.
My phone is UNROOTED.
After it was updated from ICS to Jellybean (upgrade via the air, not using Kies and not using Odin), I am also asked for SIM UNLOCK PIN.
The phone was originally bought locked to O2 UK network, then unlocked, but the unlock code used in past does not work now.
The problem is that in all places it says to root the device, and in order to root it, I am advised to create a backup copy of efs folder, and in order to backup the efs folder I need to have root permissions... - deadlock !
In additions, many guides says that in order to root the phone, I need to have only for phones that are SIM FREE, which brings me back to start - I will not be able to flush ROM/Kernel to root it as my phone is SIM locked...
Any suggestions that will help me unlock the phone?
Thanks!

You're very confused.
1) Root your phone. There are multiple methods. Search/read/learn & choose whichever one you think is best for you. The phone does not have to be 'sim-free' or unlocked or anything else in order to root it. As I said, you are clearly confused. You need to search/read/learn & not do anything to your phone until you're no longer confused, or you'll 'break' it.
2) Create an EFS backup using kTool from Google Play. Keep one copy of this backup on your PC, and another copy on the external SD card in your phone if you have one.
3) Unlock the phone with whichever app you want to use to unlock it.
Hello
I found an easy way to root it but i cant post a link... so google "[RESOLU] code deverouillage reseau" and you ll see the thread... (it is in french)
As user "gab34" says, i downloaded the proper zip file (in my case was XWLSD_root.zip) and put it in the sd card as it is (as a zip). (you have to subscribe to let you download the file :/)
Then i pressed up-power-home buttons until it turns off and on again.
Then i was in the recovery meny , and with the volume button i went down to "apply update from external storage" i pressed the power button to enter, chose the file XWLSD_root.zip, press again power button, installation will take place in ../ , press power button, the reboot now and power button.
The phone restarts as rooted and then you can use GALAXSIM to unlock it..
You download Galaxsim unlock for free, then it tells you if it can unlock and if so you pay 3 euros for full version and unlock it....
Try google translator and a french speaker if you need help with the site... It took me 10 minutes to do it...
If not, try to google how to root easily like i did with just a zip file in the sd card...
Hope it helps
Thanks but we kinda know how to do that.
Please don't (try to) post a link from another site, those sites get the info from xda anyway.

Now that the tablet z is launching worldwide, what would be the chances of being able to debrand the docomo version of the TZ?
I'm just wondering as I'm not sure how good docomo is at releasing updates.
First we need the SGP321 Firmware.
At the moment there is only the docomo FW available and the WiFi only version.
Maybe someone with a SGP321 device could provide it....

Yes, SIM-Lock is not dependent on Firmware
This is why you can flash different FW Versions to mobiles/tablets without any problems.
As from my knowledge the SIM-Lock is like a DRM-Key which is stored in the TA (TrimArea).
If you want to unlock your device you have to write the correct unlock code in the dialer, after this with an algorythm the DRM-Key is generated and stored in the TA.
To avoid any problems with SIM-Lock the Flashtool never flashes the simlock.ta file which is in some FTF Files.
The file is skipped

interesting.
If the key is stored in the TA and you unlock your bootloader the TA partition is removed on unlocking of bootloader, people are recommending to backup the TA partition to retain BRAVIA 2..so once you have the backup you could remove the any signs on the sim lock and once you restore it should be unlocked? hah
that's just my thinking....

Yes, Worldgsmcodes.com sent me the unlock code for my SO-03E in 72 hours.
Don't choose Xperia tablet z, choose tablet S, then the support will contact you to give them the IMEI of your XTZ and then they will send you the unlock code.
Works perfectly.
The Unlocking bootloader service sent me a code to unlock the bootloader, ( my XTZ says : Bootloader unlock allowed : No ), i tried this :
In the cmd windows type in fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version
If a value is returned (it will return 0.5), it means the phone is correctly connected
Type in fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY and replace KEY with the key which u received earlier.
You're device should now be bootloader unlocked

is there a proper way to unlock the bootloader of the xperia pro-i? The sony webpage doesnt have this model available for the code request, so i'm a bit lost on how to do this. Thanks a lot for your help!
actually figured it out - on the sony site you can simply select the xperia 1 III, enter the imei and it will give you the correct code. Also if you want to relock the bootloader its the same command just with lock: fastboot oem lock 0x[your code]. Hope it helps.
