[Q] Lost 4G after a careless mistake - HTC Rezound

So basically what happened is I was navigating through the menu on Neo's CM9 Build on his site and I carelessly wandered into Mobile networks and lost 4G. No surprises there I remember seeing posts that say never to go into mobile Networks for this reason. However for some reason I cannot flash back to a sense Rom, I get stuck at the boot animation. I have even tried to flash back to Neo's Adrenaline 2.0 and then restore via nandroid and I have the same problem. I am s-on and my phone got the OTA update, no other software other then the Adreno drivers was installed or flashed by me. If anyone can offer any help it will be greatly appreciated

From what I understand, you need to flash the kernel separately. Especially if you're s-on.

Thank you! I didn't even think about that since when I first flashed 2.0 I was able to flash completely from recovery.

Yea it's a pain in the ass when switching from Sense to AOSP ROMs, simply for this fact I suggest that you S-Off because it makes flashing ROMs and screw ups like this so much easier!

Yeah you need to S-off. I can flip roms all day long. Been there done that with ASOP builds a few times since it is very close to tether menu.

I did this exact same thing as well. Is there anybody out there out of the goodness of their hearts and for the sake of my Rezound, please explain exactly what to do to get my phone working again. I get the fastboot flash boot boot.img thing and I've flashed a few roms but I'm still learning.

Ok, so you're flashing a ROM and S-ON,
1. Open up the zip folder of the ROM you wanna flash
2. You will see the "boot.img" file
3. Drag and drop that boot.img file to the same folder on your desktop where your Android SDK tools are located. (you said you're familiar with fastboot flashing, so I presume you have fastboot, adb somewhere already on your computer).
4. In recovery, flash the ROM
5. After the ROM is flashing, select "Developer Menu" then "Reboot to Bootloader"
6. Open up a terminal window and change directory to the path where your Android tools and the newly extracted boot.img is located.
7. Issue the command "fastboot flash boot boot.img" (no quotations). Once it's completed successfully, reboot the phone

You sir just earned a thank you. I really got discouraged after watching the mandatory "xda noob" video and thought I would be shot down for asking such a simple question. Thank you once again

So I did the same thing on Neos AOKP rom and lost 4g. Is there anyway to get it back w/o reflashing? Thanks

No, probably not without flashing the kernel again.

From what I've gathered (I very well could be wrong) AOKP is still being worked on for the Rezound so some devices for some reason lose 4G even when they should be receiving it, and some lose all data. It's still being developed By our awesome devs!

Does anyone know of a sure fix for the 4G data issues on AOKP? Not having 4G is annoying since my University wifi is inconsistent at best

only thing i see for those roms is not to go into setting's for 4g or it will disconnect or the dialing part.

If your on 2.3.4 that's your issue.those kernels won't work for it.pull battery.hold power and volume down go into recovery when battery is put back in..

I did that but when i choose recovery it boots to the htc logo and then keeps rebooting ...
no one knows what i can do ? :/ is there a way to reset the phone without recovery ?
You pulled the battery? Cause if you don't and fastboot is on.its would do that.
sent from my badass EVO 3D running Kaos Hybrid 4.20 using tapatalk
yes i did it just as you said ...
If you still can't get into recovery or the phone continuously bootloops after the battery pull, just run the latest RUU.
What is a RUU and how do i run it ? Do you have a link ? Thanks for the replies.
Have you taken the latest OTA, or have you ran revolutionary on your phone?
yes i have revolutionary on the phone
Go here, download the .exe with the 1.13.651.7, and run it as admin.
thanks, Is it a problem if i'm not on sprint? cause i'm in france and got the gsm version.
Yes, that would be a problem...try this thread and see if your version is listed.
i guess i'll try the "europe" one... if i dont risk to brick my phone by doing so ...
Tried and didn't work wasn't the good one... I hope i will find the good one soon i'll bookmark your link hoping that my version will be upped...
Thank you for your help.
Did you solve the problem?
Hi I just have the same problems like you ... I am in France, and after installing a new kernel, the phone is an a restarting loop.
I can go to the recovery mode (revolutionary) , I have tried to install different kernel and different ROM, but it alwas failed...
Thanks
MikRunny problems
I have a similar problem.
I tried installing MikRunny, (I flashed the boot.img multiple times, and did a full wipe, multiple times), but I keep getting a bootloop.
I fastbooted the boot.img, and I replaced the boot.img in the kernel map in MikRunny.zip.
My phone is (according to recovery) S-OFF, Revolutionary, 1.49 HBOOT, GSM.
That was the problem, the boot.img was not for GSM, but for CDMA.
But yet, I replaced it, and it still doesn't work...

Search Google, Rootzwiki, and XDA for an SD bootable CWM or TWRP recovery image for the phone. Use all terms for the Evo 3D (shooter, 3vo, E3D, and even the HTC model number, which is PG86100). Write it to a microSD with dd in Linux or Win32DiskImager in Windows. After it's done writing, just drop your zips onto the card as you normally would and place it back into the phone. Proceed to recovery as you normally would. Wipe system, data, cache, dalvik cache, and battery stats. Now flash your ROM zip and follow it with your GAPPS zip. Reboot system and pray for the best. If you need any more assistance or help, feel free to PM me. Hope this helps, I know how bricking a phone feels. Just remember that there's no such thing as a permanent brick, unless you hit it with a real brick .

Hey i ran into this problem yesterday flashing this Kernel...i used the flash gui app...what happened was it booted after it flashed....and it stuck in bootloop...i tried reflashing it the regular way just through cwm and it wasnt doing anything...so i did a google search on how to flash kernels on hboot 1.5 this is what i got...http://youtu.be/HclYpo0ZR3s that youtube video shows how to flash the kernel....THE WAY I KNEW HOW TO....but he says at the end there is a backup way to flash kernels..he says its longer but it also works just as good he says that you fastboot flash it via command prompt...so this gave me an idea...he says open up command prompt and prompt it to the folder you have used to unlock the device...unzip the boot.img file from the kernel your using in command prompt youd type fastboot flash boot boot.img....THIS NEXT PART I THOUGHT OF MYSELF. i removed the boot.img from the rom i was using and flashed that first AND FLASHED THE EXACT ROM I REMOVED THE BOOT.IMG FROM TO GET IT ROOTED. Not only did i solve my original kenel problem where my radios were jacked up BUT, i also got this kernel to work, and my synergy rom to work with the kernel, everything works and i was unbricked...I HOPE ANYBODY WHO RUNS INTO THIS PROBLEM DOES THIS AND THEY ARE OK.

Evo 3d won't boot past HTC screen

Hello,
I've been all over google and this site for the last two days trying to find a way to get my Evo 3d work! I tried searching the forum and unfortunately i kept getting server errors So i figured I would make a new thread in the hopes of figuring this out!
What happened:
I went through the rooting process, and I went to flash a ROM on to the phone and it would not load pass the HTC screen. I had a ROM on there of the stock version of the Sprint Evo 3d, unfortunately it wasn't the proper version and it did not allow 4G and such. So i tried to place another ROM on to the SD Card and flash it over, and for some dumb reason, I deleted the version of the Stock Rom that atleast enabled me to get the phone to turn all the way on. All I'm able now is to boot up to recovery, but I can't figure out what ROM to download to place on the phone to get me back to square one!!!
Help please!!

Hi jerseybizzle, I can certainly try to help you but you have to help me first.
1. Are you doing a factory reset and wiping dalvik cache before flashing?
2. What hboot version do you have?
3. Is your phone s-on or s-off?
4. Which rom did you try to flash that wouldn't boot?

1. Yes
2. 1.50
3. My phone says S-on but I have super user privileges and the guide I followed said I have the phone rooted whether or not it said S-Off or S-On.
4. I believe it was the ViperMod

If it was an ics Rom and you are having bootloops, it is most likely because you are s-on. I recommend getting s-off. The wire trick is easy to do, but you need to be careful.

Did you flash the rom through fastboot? If you just booted into your recovery and attempted to flash the ICS version of that rom coming from GB it won't work since you still have S-ON and that doesn't let you flash certain things like kernels. You can still flash roms but you have to take a couple extra steps or achieve S-OFF.
To get your phone working again...
If you were just coming from a stock rooted rom before attempting to flash a new rom, simply download a stock rooted rom from the dev section, put it on your SD card, boot into recovery, wipe and reflash. Your phone should then boot up again.

I'm guessing it was the ics version of vipermod, and since you're s-on your boot image didn't flash. So you're trying to boot an ics rom with a gingerbread kernel.
If you want to use an ics rom, you have a few choices. My favorite... Put a recovery image in the folder on your computer that has fastboot in it. Put the phone in fastboot mode and type in the command window, fastboot boot recovery.img, make sure that you name the recovery image on your comp. to "recovery.img". It should boot to recovery and you can flash away.
Something that's easier is to use 4ext recovery smart flash. I'm sure it works but I've never used it.
If you want to get back to your stock rom unrooted rom you could run an ruu.
Also, take coals advice and s-off that phone, you won't have nearly as many issues once you s-off, and you can use one of the splash screens in my Sig

Here's an idea, get flash image GUI, its free here at xda, google it. Then use it to flash the kernel from the stock rom that you have running and reboot. This should fix your WiFi. Let me know if I'm not being clear enough.

So, it sounds like wifi turns on just fine, you just get the error when attempting to connect to a network?
Have you tried resetting your router and rebooting your phone? Maybe remove that network from your saved preferences and resign in.

Inside the rom that you flashed, just choose that rom with flash image GUI and it'll pull the kernel out for you

If the app that was suggested to didn't do the trick, hit the stickies in the dev section on how to flash a rom with hboot 1.5 S-ON. I recommend the fastboot method, however, if you're so inclined, you can also go the route of getting S-OFF.
Most likely, some problems occurred when you tried to flash that ROM before and broke your wifi. So, if I were you, I'd grab a ROM (that viper ics should be fine if you still got it) and flash it through fastboot using a guide in the dev section. Be sure to read and understand the guide before attempting it.
The guide would be something like this...
1. Install the appropriate drivers and place a recovery on your PC.
2. Boot into your boot loader, select fast boot, and connect your device to your PC via USB.
3. Open a command prompt on your computer, switch to the directory containing drivers/recovery image
4. Type fastboot boot thenameofyourrecovery.img
5. Install the rom as you otherwise normally would using your phone, wiping data, clearing caches, installing zip.
NOTE: The above is not a guide, just an illustration of the guide you're looking for in the dev section.
Flashing a rom by this method allows you to flash roms with non stock kernels, so you can pretty much flash any rom made for your phone. This is the method I have used since day 1 and have never experienced any problems. You may also want to look into getting S-OFF, but I can't say much about that because I haven't done it myself (being content flashing through fastboot).
Hope this helps.

Which cm rom exactly? I thought the camera works with all the cm roms. It sounds like you still have kernel issues, and until you figure out how to flash a kernel or boot image, you'll always have these types of issues, bootloop, broken WiFi/camera. I know that the instructions that flonker gave you are intimidating but after you've done it once you'll see how simple it is.
One limitation of HTC dev unlocking is that you can't write to the boot partition from recovery, the kernel resides in the boot partition. You can, however, write to boot from within the android system. That's why flash image GUI is so handy for people with s-on and HTC dev unlocked. Just open the app, find the rom you'd like to flash and select it, the GUI will extract the kernel from the rom zip and flash it. Then you just boot into recovery and flash the same rom that you selected with the GUI. It'll flash everything but the boot image, but that's ok because you already flashed the kernel with flash image GUI. Make sure you do a factory reset and wipe the dalvik cache.
When I was s-on I always chose fastbooting to recovery, when you do that it actually loads the recovery onto the boot partition and gives you permission to write to boot, so its like flashing should be. Just wipe, flash, enjoy.
Hope this helps.

[Q] Troubleshoot why I cant flash CM10 kernel onto S-on

I have officially stressed myself to the brink. I try to be calm but nowhere do I find how to fix my problem. I have tried flash image gui, I have tried htc dumlock, and I have also tried flashing the .img manually through fastboot usb then flashing the entire zip with twrp 2.2.2.0. Almost every time, I must recover from my TWRP and then use bootimg flasher v1.1 to stop my evo from getting stuck at the boot screen.
Everytime I attempt, I wipe the system and cache, then flash the boot.img, then flash the zip, then the gapps and reboot and it gets stuck on the splashscreen. I must note also that when I had first rooted, and installed Rom toolbox pro, I picked out a boot animation and installed it, restarted the phone, and it didnt work. BUT NOW sometimes after i flash the CM10 that random boot animation appears. WTF? even after i wipe the memory and everything. So I turned off the boot animation, and even deleted them from the phone off the app and it still comes up. I believe this is part or maybe IS the problem. But either way, I do not know how to deal with it. I have had the Cyanogenmod 10 boot animation ONCE out of the many times I have tried flashing but it was stuck on that screen forever like I have read other users have had happen. I REALLY, REALLY would like to be able to use the rom, as it has the new google now voice and all the cool features that i would like to have now that I am rooted.
NOTES:
I am running my stock rom. I have not installed any other ROMS on my phone. The backup i created was after I installed the stupid boot animation. (In case thats another problem)
When i tested the "current" boot animation from within rom toolbox pro, the normal htc evo 4g lte Sprint one loaded but yet, the retarded one i chose for ****s and giggles is what keeps loading. FML (I shouldve chose at least a cool one.)
My backup works fine. I am damn glad i made it!!!
Sorry for any grammatical errors, lowercase i's and what not. im too lazy to press the shift key sometimes. (Caps lock is broken. FML.)
Also sorry for it being so long. I am trying to be thorough to give you experts what you need to help me out.
If you need anymore info as far as detail instructions i will be happy to write back on this forum.
PLEASE do not tell me that my answer is on another forum, because I believe that it is not due to the special situation I have. I have tried looking for days for an answer.
I will be periodically checking this forum for any replies and will reply ASAP, whenever i am available.
Thank you for your time and patience!

What happens when u fastboot the kernel? Does it say success?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Use fastboot to flash the kernel, if you still have trouble wipe the partion and try again
Fastboot flash boot boot.img extract it from the Rom and place in adb folder.
Fastboot erase boot to wipe partition
I had problems trying out CM10 also. This worked for me.
Edit:: I'm assuming you have TWRP recovery and are unlocked before you start this...
Buy Flash GUI from app store. Worth the 99 cents!
Open it and point it to the CM10 zip. It will extract the parts it needs and flash the kernel.
Once that is done have it reboot (it prompts you) into recovery and then wipe system, do factory reset, then flash the CM10 zip and gapps zip.
Reboot one last time
The CM10 animation went on for a couple/few minutes the first time, don't panic.
You should be good after that.
Make sure to install Flash GUI again though. You will need to use it to go back to a ICS/Sense ROM later (using same method). And my guess is you might want to.
CM10 is incredible on this phone but it's not quite ready. I have tons of data connection issues and NEVER get 4G in the places where I've always had good signal. Also, the camera is just about worthless. No disrespect to the devs working on it. I'd have no idea how to work the magic they are doing and I appreciate their time.
Good luck.
I did the very same thing earlier today. I flashed CM10 without paying attention tot he fact that I was unlocked but still had S-On so the phone would continually get stuck on the boot screen. I must have reflashed and formatted with TWRP 10 times before diving into it deeper.
In terms of workflow the only way I could make it work properly was to:
1. Use TWRP to flash CM10 and gapps (just add both zips)
2. Reboot into bootmanager using TWRP.
3. Use fastboot to flash boot.imgfrom the CM10 zip (fastboot flash boot /path/to/boot.img)
If I did the boot.img first it didn't seem to work, it should so maybe that wasn't the real issue but the above process worked and I'm now running CM10.
When I fast boot the kernel everything says success with no errors

How do you partition? Do you think that is my problem?
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
You don't need to partition anything, just flash kernel and reboot
Hey guys thanks to everyone replying! I'm currently at work as a delivery driver trying to write back.... Dangerous! Lol but also I have the 5 min limit to post so I will try and do some of these methods when I get home and report my findings to you all ASAP! But to anyone with more suggestions please keep bringing Em!
Thanks!

Hey guys its me again. I just got home and I'm dead beat tired. I had to work later than I thought. Im gonna get some sleep but once again thank you everyone for giving me some answers that I can try tomorrow! I will, without a doubt, try some of them tomorrow after my classes. But first I would like to leave you all with a VERY important question that I did not think of. Is there a stable release of cm10 that has worked for you all that I can try? Perhaps that was the problem too? I was trying the nightly release that came out October 2. Once again thank you all for replying and i will try to do this ASAP after class. Sorry to leave you guys hanging so much!

Thing is it's a nightly, some people have flashed back to earlier versions and others upgrade with out any issues. Ymmv

Which nightly did you use?
Hey guys so I used padrino121s suggestion for flashing. At first I tried flash gui again like you had suggested but it got stuck in the boot screen. So I decided to download a different nightly release (20121002) and it flashed perfectly and everything transferred over correctly! Thank you guys so much for all of your help! Now one more question... If I decide to get a new nightly build, do I have to flash everything all over again like I had to the first time? Or because I have flashed cyanogen mod already do I just do something else to update it?

[q] please help!!

OK... EVO LTE that I was able to unlock bootloader, but remained s=on because I did it after the update to 4.1 sense. I flashed a new rom and everything booted up fine, the phone allowed me to set all my accounts etc... I then realized that I could not get my WIFI or Camera to work, so I assumed that I had a bad flash, bad rom or something just didn't go right. So, I flashed the Miklatte rom... Everything seemed to go ok... but, same issue! When I would try and connect to WIFI it would error out... when I would try and use my camera, it would flash open for a quick second and close the camera app.
So, at this point I tried to clean the phone by wiping everything I could possibly wipe and do this all over again with a rom that I have read has working camera and WIFI for sure! So I downloaded the CleanRom De and tried to flash this one after wiping everything about 4 times. Then I ran into problems!!! I could no longer mount USB because it said I must format the drive... I ended up doing so because I thought that I bricked my phone! It allowed me to format and I placed the flash of CleanRom on there.... I was then able to install the rom! When I rebooted the phone after flashing rom, I now have CleanRom running... although... I now have no google apps or internet that work!! I thought it was strange that the phone did not ask me to add my accounts... so I tried adding my google account and it won't allow me to input any information.
What should I do??? I sincerely thank you in advance for any help you can provide!!
Can you make and receive phone calls?

I apologize... I'm not sure I understand what you mean by flashing kernel or the flash image app.... So does that mean I can download the image of viper? sorry I don't understand... Thank you again for any help!!
There is a flash image app for pc that will flash the kernel for you but I'm not too familiar with how to use it. It seems very easy from what other users say. You can extract the boot image from the Rom and put it in adbtools or SDK and open a command prompt in the folder, type fastboot flash boot boot.img.

I am able to flash the boot.img from viper through sdk tools but once I reboot, the phone pauses on the HTC quietly brilliant splash screen... What am I missing here? The flash of the boot.img took like 2 seconds...
sending 'boot' (6188 KB)... OKAY [ 1.436s]
writing 'boot'... OKAY [ 1.432s]
finished. total time: 2.869s
Is there another step I should be doing??

You could try meanrom instead, I switched to viper and had a similar bootloop with no access to a pc. I still had meanrom so I flashed back, installed flash GUI and used it to flash viper kernel and then flashed everything else, that seemed to work

Dude, u know with S-ON and hboot 1.15 up u need to flash kernel separately for the rom to work right right?
Try installing meanrom, it has the kernel auto-installer. Or use flashGUI(app from playstore) to flash kernels with other roms.

[Q] How do I fix my wife's HTC one x+ ?

So I was trying to root/rom flash my wife's X+ to the Viper rom. I unlocked the bootloader from HTC, downloaded the all-in-one app, but it only had CWM on it, so I flashed CWM, pushed SU and installed SU with CWM, everything was fine. \
Loaded Viper rom on to internal memory, rebooted into CWM, installed Viper rom with full wipe. Phone rebooted, got Viper start up screen, booted to Viper lock screen, but when I unlock it, it shows a white screen with HTC on it, and wont let me get into anything. If I hold the home button, it says set up stopped responding, wait or close. I then reboot and all I get is a black screen with the battery, wrong time, and no signal at the top and then it resets it's self after about 2-3 mins. I cant get into the memory card or debugging before it reboots. What can I do to get the phone back functioning?
1. What method did you use to try to root? see above
2. Do have twrp or cwm installed? If so can you boot to recovery? CWM, yes
3. Can you boot to bootloader? Yes
4. What software version is phone on? 4.1.1
4. Does you pc recognize the phone when plugged in?
5. Does the phone boot at all? Yes
6. Can still get to fastboot? Yes
Do you flash boot.img?

If you've updated the phone to the new firmware ( AT&T/Telus) the only roms you can flash are the one with new base.
@Turge posted two stock roms in the developer section.

I assume you wiped data if you got the setup screen?
As @garmig said, if you updated the firmware and are on the latest HBOOT, you won't be able to flash ViperXL+ until I update it to the latest build. Did you take the OTA update?

yes, i wipped all data, cache, etc.
if that was the update that came out about a week or so ago, then yes i remember her saying something about an update from ATT.. How can I get another rom on there to flash if i cant get into ADB and debugging mode? ive tried the side load in CWM but i cant get it to connect, and the phone just sits there waiting.
I've always flashed galaxys and such, so im use to being able to remove the memory card and put what ever i needed on with a card reader. I just got my HTC One and now she wanted her OneX+ flashed for more options. Guess I didnt read close enough about the update.. and of course she is mad because she doesnt have a working phone at the moment, lol, GO ME!!!

You can use the RUU from here keeping in mind that it will wipe your phones internal memory COMPLETELY!
or you could flash this rooted and deodexed version from here
Both are the new build 1.19.502.1

First thing's first, what hboot version are you on? you can see that in the booloader screen. Mine is 1.32.0000 which is the previous version.
Anyways, ADB works in TWRP. I'm running 2.4.4.0 and I noticed it can take up to 30 seconds for it to start. You may want to start with that version: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/evitareul
Once in TWRP, you can either use "adb push" or "adb sideload":
ADB Push:
Run "adb devices" until your serial # shows up
run "adb push c:\somefolder\rom.zip /sdcard/" to push the rom zip to your phone's sdcard. It can take up to 10 mins to transfer it this way. You can use one of these: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2235248
ADB Sideload:
While in TWRP, select Advanced then ADB Sideload
Type "adb sideload c:\somefolder\rom.zip"
Once flashed, reboot to bootloader and flash the boot.img then reboot your phone.

Yes, the first is an .exe and can be run from Windows. However, you may need to flash stock recovery( which can be found here ) first.
The second file can be flashed like any other rom as well as the boot.img

you have no idea..... lol kinda glad im at work so i dont have to hear about it, but kinda wish i was home so i could fix it faster, lol
i should be home in about 3 or 4 hours though, and i will try a few things and let you guys know the status. I appreciate all the help so far, hope i can get it back up and running asap!
before going back to stock, i would flash a different rom mate. latest viper as a known issue where it leaves you stuck at that very point I'm sure while its stuck on the htc screen you should be able to connect it to your pc and drag a new rom across, if not flash TWRP 2.4.4.0 and "sideload" or "push" your rom. Trust me theres no need to go back to stock.

If you install the international 1.0.7 from a full wipe you get stuck at that very point.
I'll follow up with m0n then see if he knows anything about it.
However, I'm pretty sure we're talking about the AT&T variant of the HOX+
