[Q] Samsung S3 Black splash Dot at Night - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, Im new here. Im from Malaysia.
I bought S3 last 3 week ago.
The 2nd day i found my S3 screen got problem(only when at night or dark place).
The 3rd day i go change the new one. And it got the same problem.
My question is, Should i change again new phone or let it go?
Is anyone here got this problem too? When watching Movies or Black color picture at Night/Dark place, u can saw the black splash dot. Annoying.
ps, sorry for my bad english. hope you guys understand what i asking. : )

It happens on my device too. It's an issue with amoled screens. Quite common for all amoled devices.
Doesn't affect screen quality that much and 90% of the time you can't even notice it so don't worry too much
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2

it is a known problem with amoled on lowest screen brightness with black background

This problem is not a fault. unfortunately Every phone has this problem.
I did not notice this in S2. But the HD amoled has this issue.

I was thinking, maybe something was wrong with the screen protector,
Moreover the spots are visible usually during low lit/night time

I changed my s3 three times and all of them have the problem... so nothing to worry about

If for other company, sure this product will be asking RETURN ALL for RMA. http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif
Btw, My Samsung Galaxy S2 don't have this kind of problem.

[Q] white spots in dark areas

hi friends i recently bought galaxy note from at&t .i don't know much about this problem but i can see black colors are not properly displayed on my device .i can see some white spots in the dark areas.so i exchanged my device from at&t but still the second device has same problem .can someone let me know whether this is a software issue or hardware because i used international galaxy note it didnt had this problem??and i want to know whether i can exchange my device again ?am still in 30 days period of purchase ....
i took screenshot of the dark image where the white spots are visible ...please see the attachment
If you're talking about a few dots in the screen and can see that dot in different black/dark images in the same spot, you have dead pixels.
In this case, taking a screenshot with the phone will not show your problem. You'll have to take a picture of the screen with a camera.
---------- Post added at 09:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:17 PM ----------
Okay, I get what you're saying now.
I opened the file with the XDA app on my phone and can see the "cloud".
It's most likely the image itself.
Do you see the cloud in this picture?

Is that a screen shot? looks like it to..if your trying to show the dead pixel it won't show on a screen shot.. You have to take a picture with another phone /camera on the actual device ...correct me if I'm wrong..had dead pixels on devics..now my second note has one time to return it..

If you can take a screenshot, then its in the display software or the actual picture. If it was the hardware, then you would need to take an actual picture of the phone's screen.
I was gonna suggest it's pressure points, but you would not see that on a "screen shot".
You can see a "cloud" because the NOTE has an issue with displaying colors, refer to; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1559800

Galaxy S3 issues?

I'm thinking of getting the S3 again for the rom/root. I dont want to unlocked my HTC One X with HTCDev because I do not wish to void warranty . So I was wondering are there any issues that I should look out for when getting a SGS3? I read the general section and I didnt see any.

Well most of the physical issues include some black spots/marks on the screen when switched off(apparently prevalent in all a amoled screens, slight heating at the bottom and physical faults with the body. Can't remember some of the others. Quite frankly I haven't encountered any problems with mine. The phone is a bit fragile though so handle with care. Best thing is to examine the phone properly for factory faults when buying it

Are they visible on low brightness? Or do you need to be on a pitch black screen in a very dark room.

Some have reported it on both low brightness and when the screen is off but I don't have it as far as I can see. Running a CM10 preview right now and loving it =D

When the screen is turned off that doesnt sound good, any pictures? & thats one of the main reasons I want the SGS3 all the roms and such . The one x has roms but I dont want to void my warranty.

Nah it doesn't seem to be as visible as you think. Like I said best thing is to thoroughly examine the phone before buying. I didn't examine it when I bought but I ended up with a good set =p

Well before the one x and galaxy nexus I used to just buy a phone without thinking. Now I'm constantly looking for defects in phones :/
Well you just need to look for factory faults with the s3. The only real problems are software related which can or will eventually be fixed

I shall have a look if I decide on getting one bit unsure at the moment.

You are going to void your warranty with Samsung if you root and rom.
My S3 has been amazing. No issues here.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Touchwood no issues either. Loose volume rocker is not so great but you dont notice it inside a cover.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I know im voiding my warranty with samsung but I can easily make it look like I never touched the phone you cant with HTCDev.
Any banding on white/grey images? Like the galaxy nexus. This is generally on low brightness.
While I love my S3, I still think the screen sucks VS one X or iPhone 4s. Pentile is pentile I guess, because in the text it is very noticeable.
That being said, it is still the phone I'd choose at the moment. I don't trust the One X hardware quality long term.
Is the black dots that are on the screen the same thing as on the Galaxy Note known as "Black Crush"??
No I think black crush is something to do with the display being dark in videos. I'm not sure.

White status bar on MIUI

Is it possible to make the status bar white? Its white whilst in the menus and clear when sitting on home screen. When I'm in an app it is black.
Would it be possible for it to be white consistently?
Thanks in advance and regards

Just don't come back to complain your battery drains too fast!

Assuming by the answers that no one has made this happen yet. On this device anyway.
Also if I can handle the battery drain on a X10 with a full white mod, I don't think the SII should be an issue.
Thank you for the replies.

Lol!
Mentioning X10 is the main reason why I can't stop laughing
Note that X10 is using LCD, galaxy SII is using superAMOLED plus display.
If you still have more have more question about white vs black on LCD or AMOLED, then use Google, I'm sure there are plenty answers there already

Isn't there a theme for miui that does this? Have you checked all themes?
Skickat från min GT-I9100 via Tapatalk 2
Glad I could humour you. Even with the different displays, the X10 all round was inefficient and had horrible battery life.
I just got the phone. I am trying to apply all the knowledge I can see and have from my previous phone. It is only then that I ask a question in this section.
I also did check MIUI theme manager and I couldn't find one that makes it full white.

Because my friend also has same phone, his phone screen is ok..
How long will you keep asking the same question over and over again?
There is a certain production tolerance. If you feel unhappy with your screen, return it and demand for replace.
If not, stay with it.
But for f*cks sake stop trolling everyone in here!

How many people have had burn in issues?

Recently I've noticed that my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has had burn in issues where the status bar usually is. Whenever I'm in clockwork mod recovery I notice it, or sometimes when I do other fullscreen tasks. Is there a fix? Or do I need to replace my phone?

There is no real fix. Maybe a temporary fix but once you start to see burn in it is unfortunately a down hill trek from there.
40+ years of display technology and it seems like they always start over. simple laziness. burn-in helps nudge you to a new device in two years. heaven forbid something was built to last.

I found out with my first S3 how bad these screens burn in, that had the worst burn in I have ever seen.
On my 2nd & 3rd S3's & with my Note 2 I turned the screen brightness down & set the screen timeout to 30 seconds & that cured the problem.

Replacing the phone is the only fix & then turn down the screen and shorten the timeout.
If you don't do that, the new one will have the exact same problem.

Although you probably won't see it in cell phones, LCD panels can burn in. Main ones that usually do are computer monitors. Plasma displays can burn in. OLED displays burn in.
Really there isn't any display types used today that doesn't burn in but monochrome displays.

That's why everyone adopted screen savers decades ago. They've been thrown away to to serve our insatiable need for instant gratification. Heaven forbid you had to do something before you could see your unread email, new text or missed call counts.

I noticed my burn in about a week ago, of course the notification bar is burnt in and is the worst but I also have burn in from the BaconReader app, the two bacon strips symbol is burnt in really bad along with the arrows at the bottom that let you toggle between full screen and regular.
It pisses me off because the burn in continues to get worse the more I use BaconReader, which I've pretty much quit using it because of this.
I can't really blame anyone though because I enjoy my phone at full brightness, which I knew would make the burn in worse, and it really doesn't interfere with anything as of yet.
