Unrooting Galaxy S2 i9100 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If you want to unroot here are the steps :
1.Download the official ICS stock ROM (it should be .tar.md5)
2.Put your phone into download mode by holding down Volume Down, Center button, and Power button together for about 10 seconds until your phone reboots and you see the warning sign. Press Volume Up button to enter download mode.
3.Connect a micro-USB cable to your Galaxy S2 from your computer.
4.Run Odin(if your phone is connected you should see yellow highlight with a COM appearing, if not just get ur drivers up to date from Kies)
5.Choose “PDA” in ODIN and choose the stock ROM file you downloaded earlier(.tar.md5)
6.Hit “Start” in Odin and your phone should start unrooting/unbricking back to ICS official stock ROM.
7.When it's done the phone will reboot in 5-10 minutes.
Warning ! This happened to me - If it gets stuck to the S logo, get into recovery and get a factory/data reset then reboot. It should work like a charm
I'm guessing there are 100x tutorials out there but i tried to make it for everyone
p.s For the Stock ROM, try sammobile.com and go to firmware page ( U need to have an account to download stuff)

upgrading from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 safe?

Hello, i have one piece galaxy ace android version 2.3.3...i wish to upgrade this phone to android 2.3.5...is it safe to do so and what is procedure? Thanks
It is completely safe and you can do it via Kies or Odin. Just google the firmware you want to install (in this case 2.3.5) as well as an instalation guide and follow the steps
PD. I'm just politely answering b4 some dude comes up and says:
Hey c'mon, why don't you google this? You'll get a faster answer... Why don't you go to development section and read ALL THE POST related to upgrade your firmware.

2.3.5 isn't available in all regions through kies. And if this is the case in your region, then odin is the only option.

Use Odin flash bcz kies can brick your phone.and to download latest version go to samfirmware.com register there go to phones list choose gt s5830 there you can download Odin and latest firmware. There is also a guide for our phone for how to flash with Odin. read it carefully......
sent from my phone and don't forget to hit thanks button if I helped you in any means ......
Shall I say that I flashed via KIES like 3 - 4 times b4 getting to forums and stepping away from being a noob...???? And I DIN'T brick my phone????
Shall I say that I bricked it while flashing thru ODIN????
... Anyway ODIN is better... but READING is a MUST
You can press software update in the about phone section i settings that will let you also upgrade to 2.3.5 i did that too

Well I was also on 2.3.3. and i upgraded through kies, it din't brick my device but it has become unstable and reboots every now and then :/

Any Ideas?

Hi guys
I tried to root my cousins sgs2, i tried the odin method where you flash the cf-root kernel which is the same as the one which your phone is already running, but it keeps failing :S hes on ics through kies, his kernel version is [email protected] 151 #3. model number is GT-I9100 and the android version is 4.0.3.
like i said this did not work, its the official Tmobile UK ICS update i think, and it kept failing. i then tried the root method without kernel it flashed CWM but it kept resetting every time i tried to choose 'flash zip from internal sd card' :S
i would say im pretty experiened with android rooting, ive owned a t mobile pulse, SGS1, and ive also flashed my friends HTC DesireHD all successfully
Anyone have any suggestions? or could i downgrade his firmware back to gingerbread then root that way?
thanks
When you say resetting, what does that mean.
Because when you get that touch cwm, you have to flash the busy box installer, and after that you are rooted. But you don't have cwm left for further use.

Why dont you use superoneclick? I used it and it worked and its easier.

Hi thanks for the responses guys. To clarify a little bit o attempted the cf kernel method via odin bit it kept failing even.with both varieties of the correct kernel. I then attempted to do the recovery mode root whereby i flashed CWM which worked but when i scrolled down to flash a zip sd the power button would not select the.option. And every 3-5 seconds the CWM would return back to the start screen of CWM recovery in a loop every 3-5 seconds, so i was unable to flash superuser and busybox
The final option i believe is to try superoneclick but apparently it does not work for ics :/

its noted that on both LPB kernels there are problems .
In which case i would try LP7 .
Or flash a different Samsung stock rom to LPB .

i would say im pretty experiened with android rooting!
The way you're trying to root your cousins phone using CWM & SU.zip is just fine, "BUT" the reason your power button isn't selecting your zip files from your sd -card & keeps resettling CWM, is because that particular temporary CWM recovery is "TOUCH" & not BUTTON control! Try using your finger on the screen to select stuff rather than the volume & power bottons! & lastly, don't forget to put your CWM.zip & SU.zip files on an External SD-CARD & not your internal, otherwise CWM won't see them on your internal & it won't work

Once you're rooted you can install mobile odin from the market & use that! A lot safer & no yellow triangle or counter usage!

[Q] HELP. Phone wont switch on

Guys, I tired to flash the s3 look and feel rom from the galasy s2 android development theard on my s2 and now it wont swtich on. It will boot in download mode but no recovery. when I connect it to power, the battery icon only comes on once and then it switches off. Sometimes the screen starts flashing.
Could someone kindly advise how can I get around this?
Thanks in advance
Hi,
If the phone boots only into download mode, that's still a good sign. Just use the Odin tool and flash the new ROM. I know that doesn't help but need to stay calm and find the proper images.

You've obviously flashed it incorrectly or onto a incompatible rom or device variant. Next time read before flashing.
thanks guys,
do I flash a new kernel using odin? if yes, which one?
Thanks again.
Any one you want. Download a stock ICS or GB ROM from sammobile.com, and flash through Odin. Lucky you didn't brick your device, READ TWICE, FLASH ONCE.
Chris.
You should also confirm what model phone you have. Look on the label under the battery. What does it say for model?
flashing the stock firmware is the best option .. that solved my problem in the past .
flash the stock rom using odin . That is the best way to revive a bricked phone .
Oh good lord I hope this guy actually has an i9100.
I do have s2 i900. I am downloading I9100XXLPH.zip as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458

Yes, but any recovery will do for factory-reset. (There are others than CWM)
ok let me see if I got the instructions correct
download the fw from sammobile, the stock one
flash through odin
if stuck on samsung screen, access to recovery (missing how)
wipe data
enjoy??

to boot into recovery, whatever recovery it is either stock or CWM.
turn off the phone ( if it does not turn off by on/off button, just pull the battery and leave it out for 5 seconds),
press and hold with this order: volume up+ home button+ on/off(power button) and keep pressing until the logo. release power button and keep pressing the other buttons.
wipe data + cache + dalvik cache. reboot

well we downgrade in order to go back to LG8 and install a new OTA, even though we are using OTA's if we have (i.e) LI5 we cannot update to LI9 unless we're on LG8 which is the base, also for warranty purposes hehehe

Hi, Does this work for Galaxy S2 -I9100 also, as I would need to downgrade to ICS 4.0.4 from Jelly bean XXLS6 (Leaked Rom).
hi
my wife is driving me crazy...she upgraded to jellybean 4.1 on her Samsung Galaxy 16GB and is now complaining about the lag time and that she misses the bigger keyboard. She wants to go back to the original ice cream sandwich that came with the phone.
How can I find out what version it is?

I don't know if sammobile has the firmware...4.0? 4.04? Any help is appreciated--- and what steps to take to complete this....thanks in advance
