Hi,
I'm flashing my Xperia s back to gb because of fast capture bug and would like your opinions.
Which version of gingerbread is the fastest and bug free?
Also, if anyone can upload it that will be great. I'm in the united states north America region.

You must be kidding. , flash gingerbread? WHAT???
If u have any problems with ics, make sure you are on the latest build, and wait for updates .

You will be laughing but one of the main purpose of the smartphone is to make a calls
In my case I have a problem with the main microphone - after some time of re-flashing to whatever ICS ROM the main microphone stop working - nobody hear me. There is corresponding tread on SONY support forum but I can wait forever so just yesterday I had to move back to GB....
So I have to join this question. Any answer?

For me, the .75/.76 GB builds are the fastest & most bug free :good:! I've myself downgraded several times, but can tell you one thing though that this latest ICS (6.1.A.2.45) is much snappier, although buggy (i've got QL & BE bug on ICS)! Anyway, if you go back to GB you will have no QL/BE/deep sleep issues anymore :victory:!

.75TW in my opinion
To your question: I highly recommend the latest GB KA ROM.
Sent from my Xperia S using xda app-developers app
Many users don't notice but the latest ics still carries the quick launch bug, where it takes up to 2-3 tries to activate it from deep sleep. That was one of the main reasons I got this phone so back to gb for me.

Obviously this isn't a problem caused by custom ROMs. Send it in for repair or for a replacement instead of being stuck on GB.

Guys need your help. Writing because not very familiar with xperia p and don't know anything. coming from nexus and Samsung.
Bought my mom xperia and after she updated to jb phone started behave very weird I mean freezing from time to time touch screen not responsive and disconnecting call. In general became very slow as well.
What would be your advise do the factory reset and set everything one more time or flash the firmware from scratch. If the second one could you tell me where can I find step by step guide to do that.
Sorry for silly question but as I said I'm completely new to Sony.
Thanks for help

You should try both ways. I mean, take a factory reset and set everything again. If that doesn't work, you could download stock firmware from this thread if you want jb: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2333145
of from here if you want ics and gb roms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1938296
Here you can see how to use flashtool to flash new roms: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmmThXTWu74 . This tutotial is for arc s but the procedure is the same.
In any case i think ,since i read that jb on sony xperia p gives some problems, that you have to downgrade to ics (or even better gb since has good battery life and it's more stable) and wait for sony xperia p jb new firmware. Don't know when could arrive.
Thanks for quick response

Don't know how it was for htc mate. Could you give me some details?
You had to cheat a bit because bootloader was locked and it didn't allow you to downgrade just by plugging the phone and run the whole firmware flashing procedure but I presume that it's not a problem so I'll stop bothering and just try to do it if I'll have any problems will get back to you for advise
Thanks

Just some idea to get started! I've to decide for two days after I get this Xperia U and after unlocking, I feel great flashing kernels and CM Roms. But I was so afraid about warranty also. So how about you guys?

First thing after I opened the package. It's kind of a habit. When I got my previous phones (HTC Desire, Galaxy Note), I installed CM on them before I even tried the stock software.
Before unboxing the phone i already generated the unlock key and unlocked the phone before the first boot, so i think it took less than 2 minutes to unlock and 2 seconds to decide to unlock it

Think it was about 4 months until the stock rom was doing my head in and I decided that CM9 was ready for daily use. Didn't bother me about warranty because it's not void anyway (in the UK at least unlocking bootloader doesn't void warranty).
It took me a good month or maybe more.
At first I was afraid of losing unrecoverable stuff, as everyone kept saying I would no longer be allowed to use sony software (for the record, TrackID and Walkman were the only ones I cared about).
My phone had no warranty, and if it ever had, those rats (carriers) wouldn't take responsability anyways. "Bravia Engine" didn't do anything noticeable to stuff so I though "hey, let's jump the gun!".
Got the code, unlocked it, and I swear it's one of the best things I've done despite all those negative comments
CM9 was still in alpha back then, so I had to work with sony's crap up until FXP announced a stable release. Then I flashed CM and couldn't be happier with it.
I don't own any of those 2012 devices, I own a Mini Pro, but it's all the same. I've unlocked lots of Xperias for some friends of mine.
BTW what's up with sony wiping all of our user data after unlocking the bootloader? Why! It sure made me have a bad time :-/
I've unlocked my Mini Pro as soon as the warranty period ended.
Best thing I've done. It's running 4.2 really smoothly!

Hi all!
Tomorrow I will receive my new phone and send away my beloved Note 2.
I have loved the note series but I was too pissed off with Samsung shying away from 6" and giving us a measly .18" display increase on the Note 3 so I decided to try something else.
I have been reading a lot and learning about accessories for the phone etc. And of course ready to root and try a ROM and OCing righaway.
So just wanted to say hi to my new community!

Nay, you need root to install recovery, but you can use recovery without unlocking your bootloader. You can't flash custom ROMs (CM/Omni/PA/modified stock) without unlocking it though.

Funny cause I read something like that too and is very confusing coming from the Samsung world so I guess I need to relearn things again

Well, since you mentioned it, i'm not that sure anymore. If it's possible to flash a modified stock ROM with a locked bootloader, it doesn't include AOSP ROMs, since i know that you must have an unlocked bootloader to flash those because of signatures etc.
(Feel free to correct me, people!)

To elaborate, you can't use custom kernels with locked bootloaders. The signatures mismatch and thus, the ROM doesn't work. That includes AOSP kernels obviously.
Unlocked bootloaders don't check the kernel signature and thus, you can use custom kernels. ROMs have nothing to do with it. The 'custom' ROM being mentioned uses a stock kernel, so it can run on both LB and UB.
Basically,
Locked ---> Stock kernel from Sony only.
Unlocked ---> All kernels.

I too have come to the X Z U from a SG Note2. I had been contemplating the note3 but the region locking killed that idea.
Now the Note 2 seems ordinary size, and smaller phones like toys! And the XZU is definitely faster than the Note 2, even though the latter never felt slow.
Just got my Xperia ZU last night. Totally, new to Android coming from IOS. Glad to be off that POS.

For you to know QuickS_NL, I tried the new build

Do you have also an Xperia Z2? I find that build already very nice, aside the camera and the reboot after each screen lock, I believe all is ok?
Yes I do, yea those and no wifi tethering or kernel options to save battery life. I can't live with having to reboot my phone every time I want to use it, I don't have that kind of time lol, if that was fixed I'd probably use it as my main rom

Ah yes there is as well these small things. For the reboot, yes very annoying but the true is that my main phone is still Z1 and sometime I take a long time to prepare my Z2 to be very NICE (AdwLauncher, my apps, WiFi logins, etc)
As you seem to know well, can you reassure me that all these things I do will remain intact with the various updates until stable? (I hope so..)
Hey, the screen freeze have been fixed all alone on my device! Maybe after tweaking things? (I don't know how that is possible)
Do you want to report it to QuickS_NL?
If you are using anything that prevents deep sleep you won't get the touchscreen bug as it's caused by deep sleep by the looks of it, it's not officially fixed yet, QuickS hopes to have it fixed in the next build
