The GT charger output is rated at 5V at 2amps. It's important for the voltage to be 5V! But the current (Amps) must never be less than 2amps!
So your HTC charger at 1 Amp is too low, and will cause problems with the charger (might burn out and get super hot = dangerous..

My Gtab Sch-i905 will ONLY charge when plugged into the charge block it came with. will not charge any other way unless it is powered off. I HATE THAT.

I charge my Galaxy s3 using the wall charger and no problems and I also charge my tablet sometimes suing the phone charger too

I'm asking because I remember in the past I used a HTC charger to charge the O2 XDA Flame and it charged. However, the phone started acting VERY weird and freeze a lot. I ended up having to hard reset it

I think any USB charger for electronic gaget that has a output of 5.0 v should work. It does not matter if it is an AC charger or and car lighter charger. I got one of these AC and another car lighter charger. There are all 5.0 v output. I use them to charge Ipod and phones.

It's best to choose one that can supply enough current (I think the wall charger supplies 2A, but 1A should be ok). Some devices will still trickle charge with a lower current, but others just won't trigger the charging circuits at all.
I had a cheap car charger that seemed to work ok most of the time, but it got worryingly hot after a while.
My TP2 came with an official HTC charger, so I use that now and it's great.
I have noticed that if the phone is OFF then 1A is not enough and usually stops charging but if the phone is ON it completes the charge..but takes for ever.
Has anyone experienced the charging overheat situation where the led flashes orange and green? I dont know if that is the situation but it only happens when I am charging in the car and the unit gets hot.
My old "OEM HTC" charger I got on ebay (the one with the blue HTC light) just stopped charging my phone after about 10-15 uses.
It lights on (charger), but my phone doesn't catch any charge lol
I got a 1A one, and unfortunately it cannot produce enough juice when running the GPS (copilot), after a while the phone shows a message telling the charge current is not enough.
The wall charger that came with the original box is 1A too, thus the problem might be with the cheap car charger.
Brando sells a 2A car adapter that should do the trick. They're out of stock right now, but it may be worth a look.

Mine is a cheapo but does the trick. Charges the phone with satnav running, today went from 23% to full in less than 3 hours. Plus it's really tiny so I can keep my ashtray closed all the time. Using it with mini retractable cable, it all fits in the ashtray and it's handy to use.

The manual states that the output of the AC charger is 5.0 volts and 1 amp. That means the output of the DC/car charger should be the same. Using a 2 amp current might be charging the device faster but it would probably generate more heat and might shorten the battery life.
one tip, regardless of which charger you end up with, is to not leave the phone plugged in while starting the car. my understanding is that there can be be large voltage surges or fluctuations during the startup. depending on the design on the voltage converter inside the charger, some of that may be making it through to the phone.
i once had a AA NiCd battery smart charger that went wonky after using it in the car a lot, but that was with a straight-through 12V car to charger connector.
I made my own charger for using as a GPS on my motorcycles.
There is a charge select line in the plug. If the phone detects that it is connected to a USB port, the phone will not 'pull' more the 500ma. If that line is set to indicate a non USB port, then the phone will pull 1 amp. MAX (I never saw more then 900ma myself).
If you have the wrong charge plug, it may only charge at 500ma. If you have the correct plug and the charger can manage 5 amps, the phone will still only take 1 amp max.
For a while I used the phone in a waterproof box called an Aquabox. It would overheat during charging. I now only charge the phone when it is not in an enclosed hot space.
I'm still using the off-brand 'for Blackberry' car charger I got back when I had my Kaiser. Seems to be working just fine with this phone as well.

I was looking at getting a USB adapter for mains so i could charge my S2 using the USB cable provided. The original charger outputs 5V=0.7A.
I've seen a car USB adapter that outputs 5V=0.8A. Does the 0.1A increase affect the charge? Or will it be ok to use on my S2?
Furthermore, I've seen 2 mains USB adapters which output 5V=0.5A and the other is 5V=1A. Which of these would be better to get?
i'm curious about this as well. but if you look at other threads,
quite a number of people says that higher current rate doesn charge the phone faster or damage it. the S2 will capped the charging current to 650mA.
so no worries mate.
I occasionlly charge my sgs2 with my ipad-charger, which got 5V=2A.
Haven't got any problems with that, but it doesn't feel faster.. probably not recommdable. :-/

SGS2 capped to 650mA via Mains charger and 400mA via USB.
Can only be changed by using a custom kernel.
Using a charger with a higher mA wont hurt the phone, it just wont take advantage of it.
I think this is related Electrical knowledge.
for example, 5V x 1A = 5W (power). That means the transfer max. output power is 5W. If your transfer power is larger than your phone demand, that's OK. Will not damage the phone.

So I will get the regular charger for gs3 that comes with the phone (tomorrow when i get the phone). but i also have the HP Touchpad charger which gives output of 2.0A. I was wondering if I charge my phone with the HP charger will it actually charge is faster then the regular gs3 charger? the reason i ask is cause in other threads ppl have mentioned that it only charges faster with non - stock roms like aokp or aosp roms. please lemme know if this will work. thanks

I've used my BlackBerry PlayBook charger on mine and it doesn't charge any faster. That charger is 1.8amp.
It will not charge faster. The phone only draws as much amps as its allowed to. Whether you use a 1 amp charger or a 2 amp charger, it'll only charge at the phones own rate

A lot of chargers will be rated less than the stock charger. Especially cheap car chargers. In that case the phone can only draw at the charger rating.

The values listed on the charger is the max output it can provide. If the setting on the phone or the hardware is set up to only pull 1A, then it will always pull that unless that is more than what the charger can provide.
That being said, you should be able to take the battery out and charge it faster separate from the phone. I've always read, though, that charging a battery faster ( i.e. turning up the current) will/may reduce the life of the battery

the only way I have found to charge phone's faster is to power it off and then charge...takes about half the time to fully charge
none of the 2 amp chargers make it any quicker

I have a Touchpad charger and it can be used, though I noticed that the phone got hotter than normal, IMO. The phone comes with a 1.0A combo wall charger with USB cable. Interestingly the Samsung stand and battery charger that comes with the spare battery comes with a .7A charger but the charging unit itself is 500mA/1A on the input with output at only 4.2v @ 450/900mA.

Will it damage the phone if I use branded chargers capable of giving higher output ???
It won't charge your phone any faster, limited by hardware. But you should be able to use the charger safely.
No it will not work ... I have original samsung charger with 0.7A and with a multimeter i testet it and real output its 1A but while it is connected to phone it charges 0.650(5)A and it cluses touch problems but only while charging
2A will make screen unresponsibile and inacurate and could damage battery

You definitely shouldn't charge with any other charger then chargers made specifically for your phone, it can do nothing or it can make your phone trash, seriously don't take that risk.

As long as the charger is original and not cheap Chinese crap, you are perfectly fine. It is not the Amperage that matters, the phone will take as much as it needs, even if the charger gives less/more. For example :if you use a charger that gives 5v 300mA the phone will charge at 300mA.
If you use a charger that gives 5v 700mA (which I believe is the max the phone can take) the phone will charge at 700mA.
If you use a charger that gives 5v 9000mA the phone will charge at 700mA.
If you use a charger that gives 220v 300mA the phone will blow up.
This to say that Amperage affects just how fast the phone will charge, up to a max regulated by the phone itself. If you give more, you waste the exceeding. If the voltage is wrong, then you will surely have lots of troubles.

1A is stock for S3.
Maximum recommended is 1.5A,more may brick your whole device,if not the battery.

I guess using modified"boeffla or googymax " kernels will let your phone charge much faster
Maximum rating of the charger is irrelevant, the phone will only draw a safe amount. If you override that limit then you may blow the internal charging IC or rupture the battery.

Using 1.2A from months in boeffla kernel without any trouble, using stock charger.
I tried 2A once and it was fast (0-100 in 1hr) but its not recommended 1.5 max
Also I increased charging speed to 1600mah that time and it was working

Dramatically increasing charging current will also dramatically decrease battery service life
Just get a second battery and desktop cradle, instant recharging without any wear on the phone motherboard.

Hi, i am getting a new charger for my tablet pc which uses a 5.35V 2A output charger and was wondering whether i can use this to charge my galaxy S3. so that i do not have to carry 2 chargers?

My S3 came with a 1A charger, my wife's S3 came with a 2A charger. I used her charger a few times and it worked fine. As of last week my charger is working fine, if I use hers with my phone I only shows "USB" in the battery info and takes forever to charge. I don't know if her charger did damage to my phone/battery but that felt strange, so I stopped using her charger.
