[Q] Stuck in a boot loop - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have a rooted Fascinate SCH-i500 that tried to apply an OTA update. Since then, the device boots into the stock Android system recovery <2e>. If I select "reboot system now" the device will load into the OS and everything seems functional, however, it will reboot after about 30 seconds back into the recovery screen. If I choose "apply sdcard:update.zip" I get an error "E:signature verification failed Installation aborted."
I need help getting my device back into a happy state and would prefer not to lose any data if at all possible. Thanks!

look up my guide in the general section. most likely your going to lose data...you will want to follow the going back to stock section of the guide.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. I followed your guide, which was quite easy to follow, on how to go back to stock and everything is working fine now. Thanks again for the help.

[Q] Need help, i'm stuck on the Viewsonic splash screen

Hey xda forums, first time poster, long time reader. I rooted my Nook color from these forums and find them to be most informative. I just got back from hiking the Grand Canyon to find my G Tablet waiting for me from Woot.
As I did with my Nook, I immediately started to replace the stock rom with Cyanogenmod 7 beta. I followed the instructions on the Wiki, including installing Gapps, by putting them on the internal SD and using CWM to install from zip. After everything was done however I am now stuck at the Viewsonic splash screen. I tried to read thru the Googles and tried reflashing back to stock by way of some instructions on DroidPirate I think it was, to no avail. I can't even see my external SD card to load the update to recover. Please help. Anyone?
I would get nvflash set up with bekit's images and flash that to get yourself back to a working stock image. Follow the instructions in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
After that, put Clockworkmod ( v .8, get it from development forum) on it and repartition your sdcard to 2048 and 0 then you should be ready to flash.
Then get a ROM from the development forum here, there are some based off cm7 (gingerbread builds).
I was hoping not to have to use NVflash cuz people report problems with the boot loop, however I havent found any other option so far so I guess i'm trying that. Thanks for the link.
Xxlgeek,
Every time I hear boot loop I think re-partition -- because most of the time that
seems to fix the problem.
I agree you should NVFlash to get a stock version working. Then install CWM so
you can partition -- and the do the Fix Permissions, Wipe Dalvik Cache, Wipe
Cache, Wipe Factory Data.
With that I would try to wind up with a stock machine and let it OTA up to 3588.
I wouldn't load another Alternate Rom until I knew my tablet is working good and
until I know a lot more about the roms and how to work with the G-Tablet.
IMHO.
Rev
I can actually boot into CWM right now. I already repartitioned and wiped all the caches. But when I try to flash Cyanogenmod 7 again, which is on the root of the internal memory, it just does the same thing, won't load past splash screen.
Xxlgeek,
If it didn't work, I would erase the Cyanogenmod 7 file -- and I would go back to a stock rom until I could make sure all the hardware is working right and the system
is stable.
When you know the tablet is good and stable, you can always download and re-do.

you are not alone...
it may have to do with the boot loader .... further investigation needed. CW does not replace this but the stock does I have been running the old one since december on my personal tab. but most of these woot pads are updated .... hmmmmmm

doesnt matter all the gbread roms do this when the error happens. thats why i am starting to think its the bootloader
Just throwing this out there. I bought 2 from Woot myself. On my first G-Tab I had the same issue with every single ROM I tried. I finally used NVFlash to go back to stock and everything was good again. I then flashed to the G-Harmony Gingerbread ROM and it worked and still runs like a CHAMP. Now, I finally get the other G-Tab out and start to go through the same routine as the first and it's been a no go repeatedly. I have mostly been trying with the Cyanogen 7 Final ROM to no avail and even with the G-Harmony. Going to try NVFlash on number 2 tab and see what the result is and will post back in a bit with updates.
Ok, I said I would reply and here it is. The downside is this.... The NVFlash worked great and put me back to stock. The bad part is that I am not sure that was what actually caused the problem to occur in the first place on the second tablet. I had read right before doing this that installing the Clockwork mod from the SD card instead can be a fix as well. I did that this time through. It also shows something different on the screen when you hold down the start and vol+ buttons than it was when CWM was installed wrong.
So basically this:
Run NV Flash (Detailed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950 )
Run Clockwork Mod FROM THE SD CARD!!! (Detailed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245 )
Then proceed to follow those exact instructions from the same thread.
Do not skip stuff, do not think you have a better path, just do it all as described. I now have a G-Tablet running the Cyanogen Mod 7 Final release SMOOTH as glass! Hope this helps someone else out.

I too am having the same problem but when I try to run NVFlash, I get the error "nvflash configuration file error: file not found Press enter to continue:"
The tablet doesn't restart or anything. I followed the steps to re-partition and install the ROM from "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245." After that didn't work, I tried the steps from "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950" and I get stuck at running the nvflash_gtablet.bat file.
Any help would be appreciated.
Did you extract both archives to the same directory on your computer?

2 partitions are reversed and Gingerbread roms don't like it. Using bekits original nvflash files will fix the partitioning permanently as far as flashing between froyo and gingerbread.
Any official updates from viewsonic past 3588 have a locked bootloader and require viewsonics kernel so you must use Gojimis fix or nvflash to go back.
Edit.....This is not all tablets. I'm guessing around 30% or so have the 2 reversed partitions but it seems 50% of the woot tabs. Helped fix many of these on irc in the last 2 weeks

Tried wiping everything with FORMAT.zip from another thread, and get and error for unknown device when running that *.bat file.

I think I must have the locked bootloader, but tried both Gojimis's fix and nvflash fix and get the error as mentioned above.
So I am getting nowhere, won't go past the "booting..." splash screen to install any of the update.zip files from the microSD card.
Help!

Me too, and still getting the error "nvflash configuration file error: file not found Press enter to continue:"
Are they in the same directory. If they are not then nvflash can not find the files to flash. Both zips have to be unzipped in the same directory and the driver has to work. You must be able to see the tablet from the computer when you boot into apx mode. APX mode is power/vol- NOT power/vol+

[Q]Issuing installing ROM using Install guide

I've been flowing the Install guide found here, Step-by-Step (including repartition), but after I "install the ROM" and reboot, I never leave the ViewSonic bird page. Even after 20 min.
I've been trying to install VEGAn GE v. 7.0.0 STABLE RC1 on my tablet. I do NOT have a SD card installed. Does that mater?
Part Two -- Install a ROM
<snip>
Step 10.
Here is where we prepare the system to run the new ROM.
Navigate down to “mounts and storage”, select it, and mount “/system” and “/data” again as in steps 7 and 8.
Click to collapse
The wording of this step is a bit confusing and I'm wondering if this is where I'm messing up. After I perform this step, what should I see in the menu WRT /system and /data? Should they read "unmount/system" and "unmount/data"? Or should they read "mount/system" and "mount/data"?
easy.... NvFlash and try again
you probably coming from a 2.2 version. Many people had this issue. You didnt do anything wrong is just that when going from 2.2 to 2.3, you need to Nvflash and after that you ll be good.
so go ahead and Nvflas
Thanks, I'll give that try tonight, or this weekend.
What does nvflash do? I thought it was to reset the firmware(?) to some sort of base setup for those that bricked their tablets.
yup,, that's it

and because it brings you to a stock ROM, you will have to start all over again, starting with installing clockworkmod, remember to use the 08 version
and after that just do the whole flashing process ( i m sure you know how)
good luck!!!!
I figured out the issue. Apparently I don't need to perform the repartition if I'm installing 2.3(?). I use nvflash to get back to 3588. Then followed all the steps in the guide except the partitioning step and everything turned out fine.
Thanks.

phone reboots and reboots and reboots

I was trying to update TWRP today and something has gone wrong. When I flash a ROM (any rom) it reboots about 3 times on its own before I get to the ring screen, then when I proceed to setup and I get this error
"System is not responding"
it gives you a option to wait or proceed, when I hit proceed it just keeps rebooting. I have a nand of the ROM that was on there, and it does the same thing as described above, it will go into TWRP so it's not bricked.
Any thoughts??

Something didn't load correctly or became corrupted.
Unless you have an intricate knowledge of Android and are able to analyze the logcat, which would show what is causing the looping, I would recommend reverting back to a stock ROM and starting again with the process to load a custom ROM. At least, that is the advice I would follow!
Unfortunately, with the HTC unlock process, the steps have to be followed in a very specific order or pieces of a ROM could be missing/loaded incorrectly.
Hope that helps!

What rom were you tryin to flash? S-on or off?
Sent from the depths of hell

[Q] Root, unlock, relock, etc., etc., etc.

OK, guys, we have a TON of information here, and MAYBE I am not following things, so can we set a chronological order to how we go about GETTING to installing ROMs?
Specifically: Root first, then UNLOCK, then Flash? Seriously, the WEALTH of information is getting hard to follow, and I haven't been able to find a DECENT guide as to what steps to do first. I HAVE found Lokifish Mars' post witht he root-unlock-relock files but ARE they in the "order to be performed on his post located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20331623&postcount=6
Now, my problem is: Flashed Th3Bill's CM10_2012-1114 and CM10_2012_1117 and ran into some major errors. SOOOOOO......
....Trying to .sbf back to stock 198_7 and keep bootlooping (?) and get stuck at the infernal "Now" screen...... Not sure what to do at this point. I have tried going back through and reflashing the .sbf's, going into fastboot to erase/install recovery and get errors "failing to communicate" "flash failed" etc. Someone, HELP!!!
When you sbf back to stock, you have to go into stock recovery and wipe data
Yes there is a lot of information, and that can be very confusing. Qbking77's vids help out tremendously with getting to know the flashing process.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
As stated, make sure after you sbf back to stock, go into recovery mode( when you boot into recovery you have to press both volume up and down at the same time to see the recovery menu), then wipe data. That will get you booted up to a stock phone. Then follow the instructions in the thread you linked to. Root first, then unlock and flash your recovery of choice. As a side note, once you unlock for the first time, if you decide to re-lock or you have to go back to stock for any reason you no longer have to input your unique I.D. when you unlock again. Good luck
Fixed it!
Thanks for all the help guys.
Yes, I DID find that I needed to go back and wipe /data, /cache, etc., etc., However, my CM10 CWMR (Th3Bill's V1) got wiped when I sbf'd. So then had to figure out how to re-root, re-unlock, and reinstall Jokers CWM Recovery V3, but I DID finally get it to go! SOOOOO, Now that I have made myself a cheat sheet, since I try not to sbf/wipe often, I am also going to work on a script in Windows that will do the requisite work for me to bring me back to absolute stock if I ever need to do so in the future. Now, time to go play with some of the newer Aroma-Based ROMS the all these AWESOME Devs are working on!!!!! :good:

[Q] STUCK IN CWM! Galaxy S2 - Decent REWARD if you solve!

Firstly, I know nothing about computer science. I don't really know what a ROM is never mind a kernal. I don't really know what clockworkmod is or what mount, flash mean or what a software developer kit is.
--- please explain any help in an exact step by step process without jargon (or explain jargon if using)
--- as I know nothing about phone tech!
The situation
Galaxy s2 i9100
I think its rooted - I had "insufficient storage space problem" nothing worked, so I booted into recovery mode
(I have clock work mod v6.0.3.2)
I then cleared the data and cache, and rebooted, solving the problem
Everything was working fine until I went to settings and downloaded a cyanogenmod update, I think it was 10.1 or 10.1.3 or 10.3?
I then clicked the install icon after it had downloaded, in the settings, and it started to reboot but then it got stuck on the loading screen
the loading screen says "samsung galaxy i9100" with a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in below
when I turn the phone on, if I don't go to recovery mode, it just displays that - it doesn't make it to the spiralling cyanogenmod animation
I have been playing around with recovery mode - I don't really know what any of it does
If I go to install zip to SD card then "choose zip from sdcard" I get E: can't mount sdcard
or if I choose apply /sdcard/update.zip I get E: can't mount [file] Installation aborted
Or "choose zip from internal sd card" - I go to /emmc/cmupdater/ cm-10.1.3-RC2~i9100.zip
- when I try to install this it says "set_perm: some changes failed ; E:error in [file].zip (Status 7) ; Installation aborted
I tried "install zip from sideload"
I downloaded the latest android SDK, then downoaded the CM11 Zip (thought I'd try a newer CM), put it in the platform tools, did ctrl right click to run command window and typed "adb sideload cm11.zip"
but I always end up at *failed to write data 'protocol fault' no status *
I tried this while running "SDK Manager.exe" but didn't make any difference
I tried adb push to push CM11.zip to sdcard, I think it worked but I can't find it on clockworkmod?
Help!
REWARD:
Lifetime access to all of my public health company's resources - (I can't post a link as I'm new but it is jellymed followed by .com for our website)
1) I don't want 'lifetime access to your company's resources'.
2) You can't ADB sideload a rom/kernel/recovery/whatever on the I9100.
3)If I were in your situation, for the sake of simplicity (and because I could do the whole thing in 10 mins tops), I'd be getting a stock rom from Samfirmware, flashing it with Odin to get a 'clean slate', re-rooting your phone by flashing a custom kernel and then restoring a nandroid backup in CWRecovery, or reinstalling my custom rom in same.
I strongly suggest you take the time to learn 'the basics' once you get this fixed which you are obviously sorely lacking in. Failure on your part to read the guides/tutorials in the stickied thread near the top of General could quite easily lead to a busted phone & data loss at some stage if you continue to fumble around without knowing stuff like 'I don't really know what a ROM is never mind a kernel'. Don't believe me ? I've seen thousands of people like you on here over the past 2.5 yrs end up in exactly that situation (busted phone, didn't back stuff up, lost important stuff).
You proceed in your current state at your own risk.

Nice! Its working!
Will definitely take you up on all your advice, after exams.
Thanks for guiding me to the good resources
Do you know any good books or courses that would take me from my current hardcore noob state up to a developer - what did you use?
Kind regards,
Oli
p.s. if you are still interested in some cool health resources our medical team is developing, any premium stuff will be all yours (site under development is jellymed dot com)
The guides/tutorials here, won't turn you into a 'developer', but they'll give you a thorough grounding in what makes this phone tick as well as stuff that applies to Android generally.
Thanks for the offer, but I'm good.
