[Q] Samsung Allshare Play issues SGS3 - Unable to connect to device - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I used to have allshare play working nicely so that i could share between my pc and SGS3. Lately however i cannot connect to my pc from my phone, neither can i connect to my phone from my pc.
The connection to my pc in the allshare play app on my phone is always greyed out, and when i press on it says;
"unable to connect to the device. Check the connection status."
This always occurs whether using my local Wi-Fi connection or 3G. Both devices are registered, they just can't connect to each other.
I'm using Windows 7 and can successfully ping my phone from my pc.
Any suggestions and has anybody else got these issues?
Cheers
Homer

Right, I've tried connecting another SGS3 handset to my PC the exact same way using the Allshare Play app on the phone and the Allshare Play PC browser and service and it worked.
The only thing different was it was a different samsung account, otherwise same network, same PC and same browser. Both on 4.0.4, her SGS3 is aussie ROM, I've used UK stock samsung ROM so I can have auto rotate in the gallery, otherwise still 4.0.4 as well.
Something on my SGS3 must be blocking the connection from occurring.
Ideas?
Getting desperate. Samsung support have no clue.

Bump...desperate guys.
Thanks

Re opened allshare play and it now works.

Hey I fought with the same issue trying to play video from SGS3 to my Windows 7 PC. I don't know if anyone noticed but I only have this issue when media player is closed. When I open windows media player I no longer have issue sending video from phone to PC. Try opening WMP12 before trying to send video to PC.
In an attempt to fix windows media player closing completely I attempted to bring back the mini toolbar from Vista using the following guide:h t t p : / / g o o . g l / x K S v o
The cmd they had me run did not work. Here is what I used: regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmpband.dll"
When you closed WMP12 you would minimize to system tray and taskbar.
I got stuck and couldn't get the video to play when WMP12 was minimized to system tray, but maybe someone else could figure out why it won't play.
But ultimately I was and to get pass the "no other nearby devices are connected to the same ap" by just opening wmp12.
Hope this helps.

I was stuck with that message "unable to connect, verify status..." so i suggest go to firewall settings and then mark "allow mobile devices". Soon i did this my galaxy sIII appears green and beautiful, since then i can send all my files between pc and SIII.

Ive got a similar issue but mine is with my S4. Neither my Note 10.1 2014 is finding it and my PC is not finding it. Ive restarted everything and cleared caches? Any ideas why it would not be able to be located? I have restarted and turned on and off everything?

[Q] Why won't AllShare see anything?

Two disclaimers: I have read all other threads relating to this issue, and I am making a new one because if I post in an old one with a very specific question, it is likely to get passed over to answer someone else's more simple question.
I want to stream videos from my PC to my Vibrant via AllShare. However, AllShare is in a permanent state of "No Devices". Here is what I've tried that has failed:
-I've tried the PC Share Manager, which does not detect my phone in the Device Policy window, no matter what state my phone or the AllShare app is in.
-I've disabled my firewall, in Windows and temporarily in my Router (Which exception would this be for WMP in Windows Firewall? because I've tried everything.)
-I've set "Automatically allow devices..." in WMP
-I have turned on everything relating to media sharing in the Windows 7 network center, and disabling any password protecting.
-I have tried to detect my phone using XBMC via uPnP. Nothing.
Neither my phone nor computer will detect each other. I must either be stupid or there is something wrong. Please, any suggestions?

[Q] Mac connection, Kies, Video files

I have just picked up a GTab 16gb from PC world, they seem to have stock left despite this ban.
There is a couple of problems I have had already:
I have a MacBook Pro (10.7 Lion) and want to drop some files on to the device. So I installed Kies downloading the latest version from the Samsung website 1.0.0.11081_4. I tried adding some video files to the Kies program. I add a folder, it looks through the folder and then says no video files found!!
Next I though to connect the tab as an external drive. Is this possible?
I know there is wifi transfer apps out there to send files over, but would prefer to do this over cable. Any advice on a way of doing this with a Mac?
Any help is much appreciated
Also I tried connecting with Debugging mode to see if that help. But no success with that either
Also Android File Transfer application doesn't seem to work in normal or debugged mode
This is only way I could transfer files!
My MAC with lion would not connect to the 10.1 wireless or USB. Today on PC World they had an App WIFI File Explorer. Free download crippled and $1.60 Pro version. It is in the Market & Amazon.
I have the pro version and can transfer files wirelessly now. To me it was worth the $ rather than fight with Samsung.
from what I understand, kies doesn't work with lion. snow leopard is the latest OS that it works fairly decent with. And considering the patent wars and rocky relationship, I don't see Samsung really putting any priority in developing support either.
I have the same problem (Lion). To be honest Kies is awful so you're not missing out. I use File Expert to transfer via wifi. Its pretty quick and nice to not have to fiddle with cables.
I hope Samsung stop messing around! iTunes is awful, but Kies is a joke.
Ok glad not just me with problems with Kies on a Mac. It does seem kies is universaly hated.
I have tried a few wireless options, es explorer, ftp server and filezilla which both worked well in transfering the movie files.

Kies does work with Lion - you just need to install an earlier version and then upgrade.
However, whenever I transferred a DivX to my Tab using Kies, there were always playback problems - picture breaking up, artifacts etc. Initially I thought it was a an issue with the tablet itself as they played flawlessly on my Asus TF. However, I tried using a WiFi transfer apps and finally everything clicked into place and I could play the videos correctly.
Regards,
Dave
My experience exactly.
I got Kies on my Mac and then found it was useless.
Wifi transfer of files seems to be the only way to go. Maybe this will improve in the future, but in reality I think wifi transfer will be fine.
Are you sure you you choose the skies in the Setting of your GT before your connecting?
if not, i wonder whether this way can help you:
before you connect your GT to PC, setup your Galaxy Tab for Kies connection following the steps: press the Menu key. In the Menu interface, select Settings>Wireless and network>USB settings>Samsung Kies.
Note: Ensure your USB cable is unplugged.
hope this can help you.
I also have a UK tab and the settings you describe above are not possible. Under wireless and network there are only the following:
Flight mode
Wifi
Wifi settings
Kies Via Wifi (doesn't find Macs)
Bluetooth
Bluetooth settings
VPN

Mac OS: Android file transfer not working

So I got my SGS3 yesterday and noticed that the Android File Transfer app won't work, which used to work well when I owned a Galaxy Nexus. I tried it on 2 different Macs and it won't work on neither. The app does not recognize the phone being connected.
When I connected it on windows (bootcamp, same Mac) it was recognized, so it's not a hardware fail, it's a software bug.
My Q is, has anybody successfully managed to use the Android File Transfer app together with a Galaxy S3.
Thx, all the help greatly appreciated.
EDIT:
I just tried setting the USB Connection mode to Camera (PTP) and Android File Transfer now sees my phone. Everything is fine.
But, DAMN YOU SAMSUNG, code more carefully!
Thanks! This helped me out as well! Was worried something was wrong with my new phone .
enabling camera/PTP mode for usb connection
Hi, I am struggling with this problem of AFT not working with samsung S3. Could you elaborate on how and where to make this change in USB setting - is it on the camera or macbook pro?

On your phone, when connected to the AFP program on your mac, you'll see a USB symbol in the notification area. Pull it down and you'll see it says something like 'Connected as media device' and it'll give you options underneath that to change it. Select that and you'll get to a settings page which will allow you to set your phone as a media device ((MTP) or as a camera (PTP) - do the latter and it should work fine.
I have to say, I love this phone but am not overly enamoured with the mac syncing aspect of it. Most apps in the store are flaky at best or don't work at all, TBH. Using the above method, I've managed to get my media over to the phone by dragging/dropping from iTunes and iPhoto.
Problem is, I still can't find a way for my computer to - reliably - see my phone as a camera when I plug it in e.g. invisible to iPhoto and Image capture.
If you find a way around my problem, please post it up. HTH.
get an app called airdroid (xfer via browser) or file expert & use a FTP program to transfer files from your Mac to the S3
I was going to say that it was another way that Apple is trying to boycot Samsung's phones along with all the suing going on lol.

Thanks for that. Had a look at Airdroid and it seems really slick. Pity though, as it has issues with external storage.
Never mind, I'm dragging/dropping stuff from iPhoto/iTunes to folders which I the keep in sync with CheetahSync. It's all a bit inelegant, but it does the job for now.
hey guys, i'm having an issue with the file transfer. Did what the OP stated above and I can see both internal memory and SD, but when i tried to drag and drop from Finder it is giving me an error, saying my screen is locked (even when it isn't) and asking me to reconnect. anyone else have this problem? for now i'm transferring using File Explorer but its a pain in the ass. thanks!
EDIT: really weird, first file i tried was an mp3 and it kept giving me an error, now i'm moving an avi and looks like its working. apologies
Still having trouble
I'm having serious trouble with AFT and tried what's been suggested here but it's still not working for me.
I've installed AFT on my MacBook (OS X Lion).
All that happens is in all tries is that when I plug in the S3, AFT simply says:
"Could not connect to device
Try reconnecting or restarting your device"
I tried both with no luck. I tried it with selecting Camera (PTP) mode and then with Media device (MTP) mode. No luck. I tried both with and without "USB debugging" selected. No luck. I tried reinstalling AFT. No luck. Restarting my MacBook. No luck.
Any ideas?
Don't connect it its mtp connect it as a camera

Just a heads up. Installing AFT on my macbook air caused my usb to Ethernet dongles to stop working. AFT had to be removed to fix them. Applecare are aware and IIRC blame Google.

You're right as it doesn't seem to recognise the S3 at all when on MTP but AFT starts up each time I select PTP (i.e. my Mac recognises it when in the Camera mode) but I just end up getting the "Could not connect to device, Try reconnecting or restarting your device" message.
Strangely enough AFT needs the phone to be in camera mode to work.
But KIES for OSX needs the phone to be in MTP mode. I couldnt get wireless kies to work (but didnt try all that hard either)
well we've found another reason never to buy a mac
i dont have an s3 but i was googling this issue, i havent got a samsung device on ics working on my mac yet, my tf101 tablet just decided to work today after numerous errors about it not being connected.
AFT used to work, no longer does
Hi
I had this problem when I just got my Galaxy S3 at the end of May, and switching the connection mode to camera (ptp) did the trick. Now, however, regardless of the connection type I have chosen or whether or not I have enabled debugging, I cannot use AFT. At no point does it recognize my device, it just keeps telling me "No Android device found. Please connect your Android device with a USB cable to get started." I have reinstalled the program and still no luck.
Further info: I'm running 10.7.4 on an early 2011 15 inch MacBook Pro
Please help
Samsung changed something in firmware LFB that doesn't allow AFT to connect in MACs anymore.

Yeah, MTP never worked for me on my Macbook, while PTP worked as a workaround until LFB (and later). With LFB changing to PTP (by default) pops up Image Capture, which, if everything worked as it should, is what you'd expect I suppose. The problem is that Image Capture doesn't find any pictures on the device even though it recognises that an I9300 is connected - and Android File Manager now doesn't work in either MTP or PTP mode.
So I am not the only one not being able to transfer files using AFT? Or has someone figured it out?
Well I run KIES now and open the file browser that way. The only way I could make work on OSX. On windows I have no problems just connecting it and accessing.
I have this problem two samsung please fix this

View and Control Nokia 8 from PC

Hi all,
Just bought my Nokia 8 the other day. Got it for AUD$499! from Harvey Norman - who was out of stock - but price matched by JB Hi-fi.
I was using a Samsung Note 4, which was doggone slow. Might be resetting that one and putting it up for sale - any potential takers?
My Note 4 used SideSync, which connected to by PC via USB cable. Sidesynced allowed me to see and control my Note4 on my PC. I can do everything on the phone from my PC - I liked sending texts and SMS for example.
There doesn't appear to be an equivalent for the Nokia 8. I have seen alot of mirroring apps that require screen casting, but none which allows connection via USB.
The question - what is the equivalent out there to SideSync (which is only compatible with Samsung phones. I've tried it and it does not work). I've enabled USB debugging. The Nokia 8 says SideSync keeps closing. I can see the phone from my PC as it's connected by USB - so I can see the files on the phone from my PC - but cannot see the phone's screen or do anything to the phone.
Thanks all.
Hi,
You could try AirDroid if you know, which it gives you the option to control the phone and send texts and many other things. The only thing which i don't know if it suits you, is that it syncs through the wifi network... You connect the phone to your wifi network, and from your pc you go to a link that the app gives you and scan the QR code and thats it...
Try it maybe it will do the job for you.

Thank you for responding. I really want a USB connection to the PC as going over the air through my companies WiFi I am sure will slow things down. I have looked at Apowermirror and they want you to pay to use it and it's UI is a bit clunky. There's also Wondershare Go, but there doesn't seem to be an app on the playstore for screen mirroring, though I did do this with my Note 4.
MyPhoneExplorer
Hello, give a try to My Phone Explorer. It's free and very straight forward I think. I used it without issues.
If you Google it you'll find a link from fjsoft, that's the right one.
Good luck.
Hello, i use Vyzor to cast the screen of my N8 on my PC by using the usb connection.
The application can be used as free but if you need some quality you will need the paid version.

Android won't connect to PC

I want to connect my Android phone to my PC.
They are both on the same network and frequency band. 2.8GHz
I have Shareit on both devices.
On the phone I start Shareit, then tap the tiny icon top right hand side of screen.
I choose Connect to PC, It waits, then says no target found
On the PC I start Shareit. It tells me to do as above.
I then select Search Hotspot of Mobile
When I again ask to Connect to PC, I am told that the current network is AndroidShare_8832 and I am provided with a long random password. So far the phone and PC just sit there saying they are trying to link: the phone has an increasing series of circles (TX?): the PC has a ":radar screen" (searching
If I go to the PC's network app, I can actually see the Andriod_8832 network, and I have logged in using the long random password. That does not seem to do me any good. I disconnect again.
The PC and the phone are still jmust sitting there, expandng and searching.
And there I stand.
Anny help greatly appreciated.
Nick
Which android version is it and is it the original ROM or custom?
Thanks for coming back.
It's Android 11 and the ROM is original.
However, this afternoon I tried again and everything went perfectly! I dunno.......
