[Q] Cyanoboot and Stock - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Is there a way (I may have missed it) to flash cyanoboot and still boot into stock rom EMMC and then boot "whatever" from SD card?

Yes, you'll want to have CyanoBoot on your microSD card. Do this:
1.) Download the CyanoBoot file from this post right here.
2.) Navigate to the first partition (boot partition) of the dual boot SD card you have made.
3.) Replace the old flashing_boot.img with the new flashing_boot.img file you just downloaded.
4.) Done.

spiffy, I'm still trying to figure this all out, I really want to test out the JB roms before I nuke my wife's nook and this well help, thanks.

Yeah, no one really knows if that's because of quality control or something else. I guess it's just something we all have to live with.

When I had my Nook Tablet, both my Nook and my gf's Nook could boot to sdcard without USB.
Its too bad no one ever solved that mystery.

How can I remove CyanoBoot from my EMMC? It came with the CM9 ROM I flashed. I forgot to back up my boot image, and although everything works perfectly, the CyanoBoot screen always has static on half the screen, then the whole screen (like the fuzz on TV screen when there's no service) when it boots into EMMC. I need to know how to remove it from my Nook Tablet and only have the stock bootloader so I can flash CB correctly.

I think you have a choice between upgrading to CM10 build, which should give you a working version of cyanoboot, or reverting to stock ROM. You can do either with a bootable CWM Recovery SD card.

Well, you really have to decide what you want to do and go with it. Noone else can tell you!
Have you looked at the links suggested?
If you want to go back to clean swiped out of the box 1.4.0 stoch there's aƶways the "repart.img" that you can run. But that WILL wipe EVERYTHING and then put stock 1.4.0 back on.
Personally I think I'd try getting CM10 loaded, because it runs so well!

The boot images of all CM9 and CM10 ROMs that I am aware off all have Cyanoboot "baked" into it, so to remove Cyanoboot you'll have to go back to stock or Team-B CM7 Alpha.

Cyanoboot should be the file called flashing_boot.img

[Q] Stuck on Tap & Tap logo Please help

Ok so I tried restoring my G-tablet to factory settings and I manage to do eevrything wrong I'm good I know... Anyways I followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950 that thread and did nvflash FULL restore, using bekit's original image. After all that when the Gtab boots up in just stays in the Tap n Tap logo trying to load. I tried Rcgabriel's solution and I dont know how to rename the partition 9 file name to make it clockworkmod. I'm sure its not hard I just cant seem to do it right. Any help will be appreciated thank you all.
This may be a stupid question but how long did you wait at the Tap N Tap screen? When I restored mine it stayed there for a good 5 minutes or longer before giving me the home screen. Maybe wait a bit longer. Or nvflash it again.
Well....if you have a MicroSD card you can try to load Clockwork from there, then repartition the card. That might get you back up and running. Best thread for that, I think, is this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
That should give you step by step instructions on how to install Clockwork from an external SD card.

If you can boot to apx mode you're probably not bricked. I would reinstall clockwork and partition the sd card or would try to nvflash again.

I am having the same problem.
History: I have used a whole bunch of different ROMS without any problems. Normally CWM works wonders for me. I have even nvflashed a couple of times and have been able to return to stock without any problems.
Enter Yesterday; I was just looking around and saw that viewsonic had an OTA out on 4/14. And I think to myself, I have to check it out. So as a natural process, I nvflash just like all the other times I have done it. But ALAS, I am not enjoying the TAP-n-TAP screens. The tablet just powers itself off after a while. When I power again, it just gets to the tap-n-tap screens and just stops there.
What I have done so far.
1. nvflash like a million times.
2. FORMAT and nvflash
3. Tried CWM on the SD card. ( I watch CWM install but then when I try VOL+ and power on, It shows CWM installing again and again.)
PLEASE HELP.
I had this, here are the basics of what I did to resolve it:
1. nvflash (which you have done)
2. Install CWM from the SD card (remembering that you have to edit the file "command" to say SDCARD2: instead of SDCARD: )
3. Remove the SD card
4. Go into CWM
5. Repartition the SD card
6. Clear cache/clear data (although I do not think this is necessary)
7. I might have had to re run nvflash. I did it so many times that day that I can not remember if I did it on my final run.
::edited to make step 2 not end in a smiley
Did you try doing NVflash with the part9.img file renamed to CWmod image file. When you do this this will put CWmod in there for you and then you can clear the cache and data.
Read sticky warning on using the latest update with CWM and older roms

That's the stock recovery. If you think that you are rooted with a custom recovery like Amon_RA, it sounds like either you are not, or you were and somehow you restored the stock recovery.
So, are you rooted? Is this the first time that you tried to get into Recovery? What method did you use to root the phone?
Universal 1 Click Eris Root App Apk - No PCs, No Scripts Needed, EASY
I'm not sure what I did wrong. I guess I need to know where I need to start from to restore the phone. So if someone can point me to the right direction that would be great. Also I'm not sure if the phone is Rooted still , I think were I messed up is where, I was installing custom ROM on the phone When it was booting up. It locked up at the loading spring. i installed GSB.v3.0-CM7.0.2-Eris
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792026 this will put you back to stock unrooted or download the rootcheck app in the market and check if you have root
if so then dont flash back to stock download rom manger and use that to flash a recovery either clockwork or scroll down and flash amons recovery i recommend amon ra recovery

Wait, so that sounds like you actually had Amon_RA recovery?
Question: when you installed GSB, did you wipe data/factory reset? And also flash Google apps?
If you start in the bootloader (hold VolDn when you power up), there should be a prompt to press VolUp to start in Recovery. If you press power up, do you get the Amon_RA recovery or do you get the exclamation point with triangle?
I fixed it last night I installed Amon_RA recovery . But I went back to GSB v3.0 where I messed up the first time installed find the second time but my SD card is not recognizing anymore. in the os. Only my 1gb SD card works now.

Did you ever partition the card for apps2sd on a ROM like xtrROM? If so, you'll need to repartition the card so it has only one partition. (You do this the same way that you partitioned - namely:
- backup the contents of your SD card
- restart in Recovery
- partition SD card menu
- partition SD
- set the options for partition sizes for ext2 and swap to 0 bytes
That will reset the card to a single partition, formatted fresh.
Thanks you guys, it's completely working now.
good news
it sure is good news. But now my friend has one that he's willing to sell me for $10.00 but it does not boot and I've been trying to fix it . But for 10 bucks you can't beat it for parts right if I cant fix it

What's your ultimate goal here? Are you trying to flash CM7 to internal?
yes... i wana run either cm7 or cm9... whatever is easiest from my current situation...
And do you want to have CWM installed internally or do you want the custom recovery only to be run from SD?
again, whatever is easiest and/or best... i'd prefer it on the actual nook...

That's the way I like to do things, too.
So, to do this, you will have to use Indirect's app to install CWM internally. I know it didn't work this first time, but try it again. So try re-flashing CWM using Indirect's app, then try rebooting into recovery.
If this doesn't work, you can try a bootable CWM SD card.
just to confirm, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1446987 - method 2 correct?
method two requires the ADB ( android debug bridge ) is working up happy. for me and my nook, i did not get the 'adb' working till two months later. So, i used method one. .
but i think ( imho ) you got or developed something goofy in the sd memory... so, if i were you i would do the 'adam outler' total wipe and clean first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1470910
.
for me, getting adb going . . . was driving me nuts ! ( hacking in the registry - ouch ! )
Whoa there, hold off on the total wipe idea! That is only a last resort, in any situation.
Just try to install CWM internally again using Indirect's app. Then report back so that we know that method definitely isn't working for you.

I somehow screwed up my partitions recently. Couldn't get out of bootloop. Let me look for the method I used. Brb
ok. to begin, here's how i screwed mine up. i was running cm9 with cyanoboot and twrp. i was running through several backups and compressing them. after one, i ended up in a bootloop with cyanoboot that continuously went to recovery. i do not know what all was wrong with the device specificly, but i tried adamoutlers ubuntu, and various other steps. nothing worked. i found my solution using several different threads. ultimately, this is what worked....
i can not claim any responsibility if this screws up your device more than it already is.
read all of this and these links before performing anything. fully charge your device beforehand!
get SDFormatter to have properly a properly formatted sdcard
my NT is a 16gb, and i use a windows 7 pc.
first, create a bootable cwm sdcard. NOTE: i was able to get both steps below onto the root of the sdcard.
second, run this zip to clear the boot count... you may or may not need this. i dont see where it would hurt starting fresh.
http://www.mediafire.com/?lybnkrvgjnqc65b
(original post- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26570960&postcount=18)
third, replace partition 1-4 and 6. i presume this restores the b&n recovery. run this zip...
http://www.mediafire.com/?z2n5h3k81a0nsy8
(original post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26575066&postcount=20)
fourth, restore the stock 1.4.2 rom, unrooted.
i used this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26329581&postcount=1
you may already have a copy of the stock rom, but if you are getting errors, i would download another. CHECKSUM!!!!! i have dicked up more devices than i care to count because of a bad download. i now use MD5_SHA-1 Utility. google it for download.
then i re-rooted using this sdcard method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21275927&postcount=1
again, i can not claim any responsibility if this screws up your device more than it already is. i do hope this helps. it fixed mine.

[Q] Stuck at Flashing CM10

I followed a post on here from malloneem - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2037368 - but I ran into an issue. The method you're using is rather old. Before you try anything else I will interrupt your possibly long strenuous process of flashing CM10.
Before you attempt anything else, restore your tablet. You might be mad at me for saying this, but it makes things easier using the newer methods for flashing ROMs. You can restore your tablet by writing this repart.img to an SD card and putting it in your nook. It will write stock BN ROM to your tablet. Use this:
http://raywaldo.com/2012/06/how-to-un-brick-a-nook-tablet-8gb-or-16gb/
A lot of people have problems with TWRP. I could never get it to stop freezing up. Assuming you want to internally flash CM10 I'll give you this link to follow:
http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/11/03/cm10-0-jelly-bean-for-nook-tablet-uploading/
If you are new to flashing ROMs there is a very simple way of using CM10 from an SD card. Just write it to your SD card and you're good! You can use a partitioning tool such as MiniTool to expand the different partitions of your SD card. Use this method if you want run from an SD card.
http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/11/18/cm10-0-jellybean-sdcard-img-for-nook-tablet/
If you run into any problems along the way, just ask!
I appreciate the reply. I was able to flash back to factory, but I'm a bit perplexed on the second link. I do want to run CM10 internally. I was able to grab the file, but the link isn't exactly noob friendly on a "how to". Could you point me in the right direction to get started on this?

Mega simple super duper easy way where you don't have to set up any partitions at all:
1. Download one of the ready-made CM10 sd-card images on Iamafanof website. Doesn't matter which! These images contain Cyanoboot.
2. Burn this image
3. Put your CM10 and gApps on this or another sd card.
4. Boot into Cyanoboot by holdninh "n" during bootup. Choose "sd recovery"
5. Clear cache and dalvik
6. Choose your zips and flash them
Once CM10 is installed you'll have Cyanboboot and CWM installed internally so if you need to reflass you just boot into Cyanoboot by holding the "n" at bootup.

@SuicidalSoldier:
I'd also suggest taking a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37515697&postcount=31 for more info/pointers -- especially w.r.t. making backup in case you make mistakes in flashing.
Thank you for the info. I'll give these a try and post back my results.
Somehow after installing I keep stuck at the CyanogenMod splash screen.
I have already re-installed but to no avail.
Any hints?

Takes a while for the initial boot to start. Just wait 2 or 3 minutes and it should boot.

It indeed takes 2-3 minutes but then it just flashes the Android home screen and goes back to the cyanogenmod boot splash screen.
I am guessing I should install another build perhaps?

Go to recovery and do a factory rest/total wipe, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache. Then install the ROM again. If it still doesn't work try a different ROM.

By "cyanogenmod boot splash" do you means "Cyanoboot splash" or "Cyanogenmod boot-animation"?
You need to say more on what you did to "flash the ROM" so that we can discern what you might have done wrong.

Thanks dude, that did the trick. I guess the problem I had was with a corrupt image that I have downloaded.
