Yes use flashtool if u can't press the button to unlock it because you don't meet the requirements. (think u need stock kernel)

im a little bit confused.. just wanna know.. is it necessary for users with unlocked bootloader to flash the relock BL ftf first before flashing official ICS ftf or we can proceed to flashing official ics ftf w/o relocking the bootloader?
See my FAQ thread on updating to ICS.
Thanks,
Rick

You don't need to relock it. You only need to relock the bootloader if you plan to upgrade using PCC/SUS
What's the best way to unlock the bootloader? And am I able to relock it again in case I need it to send for repair?,
Thanks in advance

If you unlock the bootloader by that method you dont really need to relock it, unless its for warranty purposes. The reason is because you dont loose DRM, so you can still OTA update and SUS update. If you unlock the bootloader by the dev.sony.com way then yes you will need to relock your bootloader, to be able to update via SUS and OTA. Try this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560613
I used flashtool, it more easy.

No matter what rom or kernel or firmware version etc you flash? You just may lose root with Sony kernels?
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
yes. you will lose root but not the bootloader unlock thing unless you have relocked youre bootloader.
I am very new to this forum.
Can i use the flashtool to flash this firmware WITHOUT unlocking bootloader/voiding my warranty?
Odp: [Q] Flash with locked bootloader?
Yes. You can install all of the Sony fw. But it must be original firmware. You won't loose your warranty and you don't have to unlock your BL.
